JUST IN: Tinubu appoints Zaccheus Adedeji acting chairman, FIRS President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Zaccheus Adedeji, as the new Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service. “Hon. Zaccheus Adedeji is hereby appointed in acting capacity for 90 days before his subsequent confirmation as the substantive Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service for a term of four years in the first instance,” read a statement signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, on Thursday. The statement is titled ‘President Tinubu appoints new acting executive chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service.’ The President also directed the erstwhile FIRS Chairman, Mr Muhammad Nami, who has served since December 2019, to immediately proceed on three months of pre-retirement leave, as provisioned by Public Service Rule (PSR) 120243, leading to his eventual retirement from service on December 8, 2023. Adedeji is a first-class graduate in accounting from the Obafemi Awolowo University. He most recently served as the Special Adviser to the President on Revenue, following his service terms as the Oyo State Commissioner of Finance and as the Executive Secretary/CEO of the National Sugar Development Council. By these directives of the President, “the new appointment takes immediate effect,” the statement affirmed.

…Orders INEC to recognise Apapa-led NWC governorship candidates The Court of Appeal in Owerri, Imo State, on Thursday, sacked Julius Abure, and recognised Lamido Apapa as the National Chairman of the Labour Party. The court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to immediately recognise and publish the names of all the governorship candidates produced by the Apapa-led National Working Committee in Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi states. The court also dismissed the gubernatorial candidature of Senator Athan Achonu of Imo state, and others belonging to the Abure-led LP faction.

Don’t join Aregbesola’s caucus, Osun APC chair warns members State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has urged its members not to relate with the newly formed Omoluabi Caucus, a group formed recently by the ex- governor, Rauf Aregbesola. Aregbesola at the launch of the Omoluabi Caucus in Ilesa on Tuesday, described it as an association of like minds with progressive ideals. But reacting to the launch in a statement on Wednesday, Osun APC chairman, Mr. Tajudeen Lawal, said members of the party should be wary of the antics of the leader of the group and keep the group at an arm’s length. Lawal urged the immediate-past Minister of Interior to let the APC breath and take a deserving reset in order to be in tune with the political reality of the moment. The statement reads, “Sequel to the launch of a political group, Omoluabi Progressives, by the immediate-past Minister of Interior, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, in Ilesa, Osun State, the state chapter of the party has enjoined the members and supporters of the party in the state to be wary of the antics of the leader of the group, Mr Aregbesola, and keep the group at an arm’s length because of its diabolical intention and motive. “Is it because Aregbesola has lost at the federal level, Lagos and Osun states that he has resorted to lightening the gullible ones with pap in Osun State? Aregbesola should know that the Osun State APC of today is intact unlike those inglorious years when he was dictating the pace as the governor, the state party chairman and the Speaker of the state House of Assembly. “It should be known to Aregbesola that the Osun politics of the APC extraction of today is far better than what it used to be when he would be the sole contributor at party meetings. Is it not surprising that Aregbesola has turned himself to an instrument of the opposition by his actions and inactions? What informed the formation of a group by Aregbesola now when there is no election around the corner? It is disheartening and disgusting that Aregbesola could stoop so low to have relegated himself to a sectional APC leader in Ilesa.” But responding, ex Osun APC state chairman, Mr. Lowo Adebiyi, said individuals have the right to belong to association. Adebiyi, who said the Osun APC chairman only expressed a personal opinion, urged members of the party, interested in joining the group to first study the charter of Omoluabi Caucus. “That’s the chairman’s personal view. You can’t stop anybody from joining any caucus. APC members are free to join any caucus if they see it as the reality and the way forward for them. “What have they done with the party all this while? What program do they have for the party? We have alternative for the members of the party inn terms of activities and program. “So, people are free to join us. They should check out charter for the objectives of the caucus

Ogbanje Church opens in Anambra
new church called Ogbanje Church of All Nations has been opened in Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State. Members of the congregation had their first worship service at the church, where they sang and danced to a compilation of songs eulogising the names of some popular river goddesses in Nnewi. This was corroborated by a video currently trending in social media, showing members of the church as they rejoiced and danced to the tune of songs composed in praise of goddesses of some popular rivers in Nnewi. While addressing the congregation at the uncompleted building, the cleric, presiding over the service, advised the congregation to worship what they know, rather than what they don’t know. The clergyman, who did not mention his name, spoke in Igbo and said people had used the names of Bethsaida, Jericho, Samaria, and some other biblical locations to compose songs without knowing the meaning of those locations Supported by echoes of joy and commendations from the congregation, the cleric who did not mention his name, thereafter began singing a praise song in reverence to the Ogbanje, while the church members cheerfully dance around in joy. He said, “People usually sing and dance to songs composed with names and places in the Bible while they do not actually know who, what, or where they are and what they represent. It is high time we started going back to our culture and tradition. “People should start singing songs composed with names of rivers that are known to them and the goddesses of those rivers, rather than singing and dancing to the names of what they don’t know.” Together with the congregation, he mentioned some names of rivers and some river goddesses in the area including Obò River, Mmiri Ele, Orasò River, Mmiri Edo, Ofala River, Ota, and Ezu River, among others. While proudly identifying as an Ogbanje, the cleric claimed that he and other people who were Ogbanje “usually shine, prosper and live fine from year to year because they worship the rivers and the goddesses of the rivers they know, rather than those unknown to them”.
