Politics / My Husband’s Return As Gov Certain, Divine —mrs Fayose by ojowizzy: 9:21pm On Jan 09, 2014 |
Wife of a former governor of Ekiti State and a prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in the state, Mrs Feyisetan Fayose, has said that her husband, Mr Ayo Fayose, will be elected again as governor of the state in June this year. Mrs Fayose, in an address she presented to PDP women on the occasion of her 50th birthday on Wednesday, said: “I am not a politician, I am a woman that believes in God. As the Lord liveth, I have simply come to announce to you and any other doubting Thomases of the inevitable return and restoration of my husband, Mr Peter Ayodele Fayose, to his seat as the next governor of Ekiti State.” She told the large gathering of women from the 16 local government areas of the state at the Ayo Fayose Campaign Organisation (AFCO) headquarters in Ado Ekiti that “by the special grace of God, his return is certain, and so destined. I am telling you that nothing can stop him.” Describing her husband, Mrs. Fayose said “Ayo Fayose is a man with a fierce outlook but with a good heart. He means well for the Ekiti people. You will agree with me that Fayose remains the best performed governor who did not plunge Ekiti into unnecessary debt,” noting that “rather, he left over N10 billion in the state coffer. No wonder, almost eight years after his exit, his name is still a household name.” She assured the women that she would “protect the interest of women and ensure that the women get their dues in the incoming Fayose administration,” adding “I commend you to support him because he will surely return to the Government House.” Speaking on the occasion, former Governor Fayose described his wife as “an appropriate balance and pillar of support,” and maintained that he is still of relevance in the politics of Ekiti State because he had interacted with the people of the state with truthfulness when he served as governor of the state.” Fayose said it was too late for Governor Kayode Fayemi to plan to conduct local government elections in the state this 2014, saying “it is a belated effort. The time is up for the present government because the PDP has come to take over the government of Ekiti.” Fayose, who likened himself to the biblical David, expressed confidence that his political relevance would be restored in 2014 because of the confidence he said the people had in his leadership. Among those in attendance on the occasion were the Secretary of PDP in the state, Dr Tope Aluko; PDP State Publicity Secretary, Pastor Kola Oluwawole; wife of AFCO Director-General, Mrs Owoseni Ajayi; PDP State Woman Leader, Mrs Busola Oyebode; former Permanent Secretary, Dr (Mrs) Beatrice Alade; former Information Commissioner, Mr Gboyega Oguntuase; former Water Resource Commissioner, Chief Segun Akinwumi; Chairman, AFCO and former PDP Financial Secretary, Chief Ebenezer Oladipo; Mr Bimbo Oluwayose; PDP governorship aspirant, Mrs Cecelia Dada; women leaders; former PDP local government party chairmen and party members.

Sports / Theo Walcott’s Injury: How Will Arsenal Cope In His Absence? by ojowizzy: 11:35am On Jan 07, 2014 |
Injuries, they say, are part and parcel of the beautiful game but like a thief at night, it sneaks on you when you least expect it. Arsenal’s Theo Walcott has had his fair share of injury worries in the past with a dislocated shoulder being a big concern at the early part of his career with the club. He has also had some ankle and hamstring problems as well down the years. When he managed to stay fit for the entirety of a season, he slammed in 21 goals and many more things were expected of him in the forthcoming campaign for both club and country. Walcott began the 2013/14 campaign at a rather slow pace in terms of his output in the final third, with his assist to Olivier Giroud in the North London Derby being his most telling contribution in the early part of the campaign. He finally broke his goalscoring duck with a technically astute finish against Olympique Marseille but he suffered an abdominal injury in the build up to the home clash against those goons from Stoke and required a surgery to mitigate the problem. With Olivier Giroud falling ill and Nicklas Bendtner suffering an injury to his ankle, Walcott was afforded a chance can to strut his stuff in the center forward in the North London Derby against Tottenham on Saturday. His linkup play and movement was brilliant but his finishing was a bit wayward. However, on the 81st minute after Arsene Wenger had made all his substitutions, Walcott was tackled by Danny Rose and he couldn’t get back up. While he was stretched out, he trolled the Spurs fans by reminding them of the scoreline and they pelted coins at him, but the Arsenal fans responded by throwing red and white scarves at their hero while signing his songs. In his post-match press conference, Wenger wasn’t too sure about how bad the injury was, citing that it might just be a stretched ligament or just a kick, but after an extensive scan on Monday, the club regrettably announced that the speedster has sustained a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee, which means that he’ll be out for at least six months. If you do your calculations right, you don’t need any soothsayer to tell you that Walcott’s 2013/14 campaign for the Gunners is over and he’ll play no part in England’s quest for glory in the World Cup which is very painful. On the international scene, Sven-Goran Eriksson put him (as a 16-year-old) on the plane to Germany in 2006, Fabio Capello didn’t deem him good enough to join the party in 2010 and now, injury has robbed him of a chance to shine in the big stage this time. By the time, Russia would be hosting the World Cup in 2018, Walcott will be around 28/29-year- old, which ultimately means that it would probably be his last World Cup.

Politics / Stop Our Men From Decamping To APC; Akpabio Begs Tambuwal by ojowizzy: 8:38am On Jan 07, 2014 |
Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom has appealed to the Speaker of the House of Reps, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, to stop further defection of members of Peoples Democratic Party in the National Assembly to the leading opposition party, the APC. In his words: “You must do everything humanly possible to avoid further defection of PDP members in the National Assembly . Even those that have defected, we want to implore you to do your best to convince them to come back because the umbrella is not torn. The umbrella can accommodate them and can still cover them very well.” In his reaction, Tambuwal simply told Akpabio that he was in the state to discuss national issues. It will be recalled that 37 members of the House of Representatives elected on the platform of PDP had last month defected to the All Progressives Congress, giving the opposition a simple majority in the House. But Akpabio asked the Speaker to help convince the defectors to return to the party. Akpabio’s position was contained in a statement issued after Tambuwal paid him a courtesy visit in Uyo on Monday. Nigeriaonpoint.Com gathered all efforts by Akpabio to drag Tambuwal into political discussions during his visit to the state was politely turned down. |
