The uncertainties of 2023 elections keep raging. The debate of President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor and 2023 politics have thrown the current Nigeria’s Vice President Yemi Osinbajo into turbulent political waters and oceans of smear campaigns.

The campaign is a strategic one deployed by some faceless powerful people with the intention to smear the former lecturer of law, a forthright man, who is only determined to serve his country, ahead of the 2023 presidential elections. He wants to do his work as the people’s servant with all his heart. He doesn’t not deserve all these needless unpatriotic actions launched against him by agents provocateurs.

The reason being that, Osinbajo is not only an asset for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), he has become a national treasure and rallying point for national development.

The 2023 politicking has made the Vice President become a cheap target of smear campaigns and fake news due to his intimidating credentials that many traditional politicians seldom enjoy.

Going by Nigeria’s chequered political history, many traditional politicians are generally viewed with distrust because they are sometimes seen as simply occupying public offices for occupying sake, rather than truly serving the people in their exalted position. This general assumption makes political offices in the country a no go area for persons with high moral value and decency.

It has not entirely been a bed of roses for the sprightly 64-year-old because of the amoral politics of the Nigerian landscape. This has made some people to stick to the saying that ” Politics is a dirty game”.

Let’s go down memory lane

• TUNDE FOWLER’S CORRUPTION CASE WAS LINKED TO OSINBAJO

Osinbajo’s reputation and longstanding integrity was firstly put to the fire in a virulent manner at the backdrop of Tunde Fowler’s exit from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) due to corruption cases.

A letter from the late President’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, had surfaced on the Internet querying the FIRS boss on the discrepancy in their figures. The following day, the story came up that the VP allegedly took N90 billion from that same FIRS to fund the 2019 elections. It was the most confusing story of the year in 2019. There were a lot of insinuations and gossips. While some believed it was a knife fight in the APC party politics by some cabals who wanted to reduce Osinbajo growing influence, others posited that the purveyors of such malicious lie had planned it well by dragging Osinbajo to the Fowler’s corruption story due to their similar backgrounds and chummy relationship. Fowler was a childhood friend and a former classmate of the VP.

The apocrypha story trended in beer parlors and on various social media platforms for some days but the purveyors were having difficulty explaining to us how such huge amount of money was delivered.

• 5.8 BILLION NEMA RUSE

With another intent to puncture the integrity of the former Law Professor, the Vice President was also dragged into the issue of the N5.8 billion National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) scandal this time by the opposition PDP.

The main opposition party had claimed that the Vice President had “failed to provide a cogent response to the report of the House of Representatives on the N33 billion NEMA fraud in addition to allegations that the N5.8 billion was withdrawn from the national coffers, while he was Acting President, without legislative consent and expended without recourse to extant due process, procurement and contract rules.”

Osinbajo’s only administrative iniquity was the immediate action he took when he approved funds for the emergency operations in the North East at the time the entire region was facing a severe humanitarian crisis. They claimed that the funds were from the consolidated Revenue Fund not budgeted funds. Although, it was later discovered that the funds approved were actually from budgeted funds, specifically the Rice Levy.

Babafemi Ojudu, the presidential political adviser while responding to the claim said, “Nowhere in the House of Representative Committee on Emergency and Disaster Preparedness report was there an allegation of corruption against the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, and this is why claims against him from some quarters regarding the report are mere political contrivances intended to distract him.

“It is evident that the opposition are in search of company for their acts of grand corruption which brought Nigeria to its knees as of May 2015. They cannot find that company in the Vice President.

“First, there is nowhere in the politicised House of Reps report where the VP was accused of corruption or embezzlement of funds. I challenge them to quote any word or sentence that makes such an accusation.”

• JACKSON UDE’S INFAMOUS FAKE NEWS STORY

Again, the Vice President found himself enmeshed in another campaign of calumny. A renowned merchant of fake news, Jackson Ude, on July 8, 2020 through his media platform Pointblank News published a story with a headline that says “How Magu Embezzled N39 billion, Gave Osinbajo N4 billion, Begs for Soft Landing.”

For those who are not familiar with the fake news monger, here is a man who once worked with the former President Goodluck Jonathan government. He has a clear history of blackmail and false publications. The Mrs Oyindamola Amuka fraudulent story and the former Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala blackmail he orchestrated are still fresh in our memory.

Jackson is a notorious fraudulent publisher, whose illegal activities have denied him a stay in the country. So, such publications against the person of the VP holds no water as none of the reputable news media published similar story.

Not only did the Vice President through his lawyer requested the Inspector General of Police to investigate Jackson and his malicious story, but it also defies human reasoning to imagine how Magu or the EFCC that doesn’t have a vault in its office or has a total control over the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), will dole out such fortune to the Vice President (that by law he is not answerable to).

Although the allegation would later disappear into thin air not only the report could not be substantiated but because there are some Nigerians who refused to be gullible. Those that can tell between facts and fictions and won’t mistake a monkey for a gorilla have since trashed the malicious fake news.

• THE DIVISIVE NARRATIVE BETWEEN OSINBAJO AND TINUBU PEDDLED BY THE MEDIA

The Nigerian political space was agog with curiosity and bewilderment following a news report from THISDAY of October 24, 2021 under the headline, “Snubbed by Tinubu in London, Osinbajo Ready for Presidential Fight of His Life

The story had insinuated a fictitious clash of interest between the Vice PresidentOsinbajo and the former Lagos State governor and national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The Nigerian media, afterwards, latched on to the narrative and projections that Osinbajo may part ways with his political mentor over their alleged 2023 presidential ambitions, and it became a hot topic for political debates and discussions.

It is in the midst of all these speculations and conjectures that the two notable personalities in the ruling APC finally had a show down on Friday, October 29, 2021 in a closed-door meeting in Abuja, putting an end to the alleged conflict of interests in their 2023 presidential bid.

To the surprise of many, both of them posed for photographs before heading into a closed-door session in what looked like both the political godfather and son were just playing politics with the psyche of the poeple. The media charade on the alleged crack between them became more of an illusion than reality.

• OSINBAJO AGAIN LINKED TO THE COLLAPSED 21 STOREYED BUILDING IN IKOYI

Tragedy had struck in Lagos, on Monday 1st of November, 2021 after which at least 15 persons were initially reported dead following a collapse of 21-storey building at Gerard Road in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State.

The day was a tragic day not only in Lagos but in the entire country as the death toll has risen to 35 as of the time of writing this report. The owner of the building, who is also its developer, Mr Femi Osibona, is said to be trapped in the rubble as rescuing efforts are still ongoing. His whereabouts is still unknown according to reports. This is a tragic thing that has thrown the entire nation into mourning. There is no need playing over the graves of these late Nigerians.

As Nigerians still struggling to cope with the sad reality of the unfortunate incident then, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, again got dragged into the tragedy with an unverified and unconfirmed publication from Sahara Reporters under the headline, “EXCLUSIVE: Vice President Osinbajo Linked To Lagos Collapsed Building With Current Death Toll Of 36 Persons.”

However, no matter the denials and efforts made by the Vice President and his publicists, what is unfolding, before our very eyes is more than a storm in a teacup.

The coordination and the barrage at which most of these smear campaigns against the VP always hit the media space has raised a suspicion that someone or an organised network of people are pushing a against Prof Osinbajo, a cerebral technocrat, thoroughbred professional, a teacher who is an accomplished Professor of Law and a preacher of values and morals and Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

Members of the public, however, should be wary of all these pranks, schemings, permutations, shenanigans and demand for the truth. Osinbajo’s personality and integrity are his best solicitor. He always wins.

CelebritiesNigerian Comedians Are The Funniest Worldwide: Osinbajo by okefranci(op): 1:35pm On Nov 04, 2021
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says he believes Nigerian comedians are the funniest globally, urging skit comedians to use their huge social media followings to promote social good.

“I must say that just based on the sheer creativity around this, I don’t think that anybody anywhere is as funny as Nigerian comedians”, stated Mr Osinbajo.

He explained that the creativity and talents of Nigerian youths were enough reason to believe in the country’s future and build a new Nigeria that every Nigerian would be proud of.

“I strongly believe that what our young people are doing and what they are capable of is what will lead our country to where we are meant to be,” explained the vice president. “The future is not tomorrow; it is already here, and we can see it from just everything you are doing, the global acclaim that you are getting; young people like yourselves, doing something good.”

He added, “I think that we have incredible talent, and we must do something about it, to enable these talents, and we must ask ourselves questions on setting realistic goals that can enable these talents (to) flourish.

On the support of President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime for the creative industry, Mr Osinbajo highlighted the work of the Technology and Creative Advisory group in shaping policies to encourage the growth of the sector, saying that engagement with skit comedians was important.

“Let us sit down and look at all the issues and come out with realistic positions that can then become policies, and what sort of support will be required,” said Mr Osinbajo.

His media, Laolu Akande, in a statement on Wednesday, in Abuja, said the vice president stated this when some skit comedians visited him
The delegation, which came under the Nigeria Skits Industry Awards (NSIA), was led by its promoter, Bimbo Daramola.

Others on the delegation were Maryam Apaokagi, popularly known as Taooma, Josh Alfred (Josh2funny), Ayo Ajewole (Woli Agba), Adebamiro Adeyanju (Mr Hyenana) and Adeoye Adeyemi Elesho (Yemi Elesho).
Everyone with a large following also has a responsibility to draw attention to social issues, Mr Osinbajo pointed out, adding that Mr Buhari’s regime will continue to create an enabling environment for the growth and development of youths in the country

The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, has commended Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State for his developmental strides.

Represented by Chaplain of Aso Rock Chapel, Seyi Malomo, at the state’s 10th yearly thanksgiving, which was the second under his administration, the Osinbajo prayed God to continue to bless the state for recognising His supremacy.

The immediate past governor, Senator Seriake Dickson, who came with his wife, Rachael, also appreciated Diri for continuing with programmes and projects his administration initiated.

He urged the people to pray for the governor and his team to stay focused and courageous in their quest to develop Bayelsa.

Also speaking, former governor of old Rivers State, Chief Rufus Ada-George, noted: “Bayelsans have reasons to thank God as it has produced prominent leaders in the country, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, and blessed with human and natural resources.”
He said God used Diri to foster unity and understanding among the people and the Ijaw nation, and advised the state to depend only on God for its progress.

Guest preacher at the event, Rev. Uma Ukpai, made prophetic declarations and proclaimed healing and blessings on the people and the state.

Making reference to the scriptures, he urged Bayelsa people to draw closer to God to experience supernatural increase.

On his part, Diri expressed appreciation to the people for the tremendous support for his administration.

Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor, Daniel Alabrah, stated yesterday that the governor was full of joy for the prevailing peace, stability and unity being enjoyed by the people, thanking leaders and founding fathers of the state for rallying round his administration.

He promised to continue to churn out projects that would uplift the living standards of the people.

Diri’s words: “I thank Bayelsans for their love and support to the Prosperity Administration. I also express my profound gratitude to all the leaders of the state, particularly the founding fathers and leaders of thought across the Ijaw nation for rallying round my administration. I’m overwhelmed with joy for the peaceful disposition of Bayelsans towards my administration.

“I would like to also express my appreciation to the legislature, the judiciary and members of my cabinet for the warm and cordial working relationship among us. I must say that this is really heartwarming and I assure you that the Prosperity Government will continue to embark on projects that would endear the people more to our government.”

He applauded Dickson for initiating the Thanksgiving Day celebration and for putting up the magnificent Ecumenical Centre, which has become the rallying ground every November 2 for people to appreciate God for his manifold blessings.

The programme attracted Bayelsans and other prominent Nigerians, who turned out in their large numbers.

The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, will on November 23, 2021 turn the first sod of the Yoruba World Centre inside the University of Ibadan.

He will be joined by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and eminent Yoruba leaders, under the chairmanship of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III.

The three-in-one occasion, as being put together by the International Centre for Yoruba Arts And Culture, Institute of African Studies and Yoruba Language Centre of the university, will feature the opening of the Centre’s temporary abode, presentation of a full documentary on the Yoruba World Centre and laying of the first foundation at the permanent site by the Vice President.

The Centre, when completed, will have a big library, an archive, a museum, a recreation centre, reconstruction and digitising centre, a broadcasting and film village and an artificial forest.

A member of the Board of Trustees of INCEYAC and Publisher of Alaroye newspaper, Alao Adedayo, said the centre would serve as a one-stop shop, among others offering old, new, recreated and reconstructed materials for researchers, lecturers, students, authors, journalists, historians and members of the public interested in Yoruba history, arts and culture as a tool for nation-building, national cohesiveness and mutual understanding.
He said: “Being the largest user of Yoruba language (in print) in the world today, and because of our daily interactions with the language, arts, culture and history of the people, through our newspaper – Alaroye, we can confirm that there is no one institution in the entire world where researchers, or anyone at all, can stay to conduct and complete works on the history, arts and culture of the Yoruba people.

“And we believe there should be one to help us in nation-building. Thus, it is a great development that INCEYAC and the University of Ibadan are in this together. We are equally optimistic that proud sons and daughters of Yorubaland and other friends of the elitist tribe will rise up to the occasion of supporting this project in whatever way they can.”

The Osinbajo Grassroots Organisation (OGO) has put smiles on the faces of students of Alasagba Community High School, Igbara-Oke and Ikeji-Arakeji Grammar School, in Ondo and Osun states respectively, when it paid unscheduled visit to the South West schools on Thursday.

The visit was part of the ongoing donation of educational materials to students of public schools across the nation by the organisation. The exercise was kick-started recently in Nasarawa and Niger states in the North-central geopolitical zone.

At Alasagba Community High School, Igbara-Oke, Adedokun Sakirat, a Senior Secondary School (SS3) student drew the attention of OGO’s National Convener, Mr. Sylvanus Foluso Ojo for her brilliance after answering a question about Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Mr. Ojo thereafter surprised the indigent student with the offer to pay her pending school, and West African Examination Council (WAEC) fees, after going home with a Twenty Thousand Naira (N20, 000) donation.

This left the staff and students dumbfounded as Adedokun was unable to pay her school fees before then, and uncertain of writing her WAEC due to her parents’ financial inability.
“This group actually came because of this girl, because we doubted if she was going to write WAEC due to the financial status of her parents,” the Vice Principal of the school, Mr. Akintoye, S.A. admitted while responding to the surprise development.

Astonished by the development, one of the visibly overwhelmed teachers who could not hide her emotions prayed, “As God used this organisation from nowhere to assist this almost hopeless girl; may this same God use himself for Prof Osinbajo in any areas he needs God.”
The group also visited Ikeji-Arakeji Grammar School, Osun State where a year-two Junior Secondary School (JSS2) student, Adebayo Yesirat also went home with Twenty-thousand Naira (N20, 000) for brilliantly answering a question about the Vice President.

Addressing the students of both schools, the Convener stated that the visit was not politically inspired; he stated that as admirers of Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, the OGO is spreading messages about his impressive leadership qualities evident in his humility, loyalty, professionalism, competence and patriotism which he wants growing Nigerians to imbibe for nation building.

We also want you to be that successful, this is why we are visiting you, so that you also can go as far as you want in life, but first, take your education very serious,” the OGO leader charged.

Writing materials were distributed to every student in both schools, and the recipients expressed delight on the donations, as many of them claimed not to have enough of those materials prior to the visit.
The beneficiaries further expressed gratitude to the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo and the organisation for the kind gesture and for ‘remembering us in these local areas,’ and pledged to imbibe those qualities and emulate the VP as their mentor.

Ojo promised that the organisation will continue with the initiative, saying although they may not be so much, but was optimistic that many students will have their faith in the nation and their future rekindled through the little show of love.

He promised that more states will benefit from the educational outreach and other interventions by the Osinbajo Grassroots Organisation in the nearest future.

They demanded his reinstatement as security agents took over the Complex to prevent the breakdown of law and order.

Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, on Saturday predicted that the current situation in Nigeria would soon change for better.

Speaking at the annual thanksgiving service of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria which held at the Jesus Power Crusaders International Assembly in Jos on Saturday, Osinbajo noted that “Nigeria is a great country with huge potentials which needs to be nurtured and built by its citizens”.

He said though the current challenges were huge, there was biblical support to the fact that things would change for the better in no distant time.

He urged Nigerians to speak well of their country and not to confess negatively.

He commended PFN for organising the thanksgiving service, which he described as an opportunity to recognise and appreciate God’s goodness for the nation in times of difficulty, saying this makes God to do more.

PFN President, Bishop Wale Oke, in his sermon, said the challenges Nigeria was facing were prevalent and daunting, but would overcome according to God’s promises.
Meanwhile, Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State and the General Overseer of the Evangelical Bible Outreach Ministries International, Prophet Isa El-Buba, on Saturday clashed over the removal of the state House of Assembly Speaker, Abok Ayuba.
Abok was on Thursday removed as Speaker in controversial circumstances by some lawmakers who elected Yakubu Sanda as the new Speaker.

Many had accused Lalong of being responsible for the change of leadership at the state House of Assembly which had thrown the Assembly into crisis.

But Prophet El-Buba who led a national prayer for Nigeria during a Thanksgiving Service organised by the PFN asked the governor to restore peace in the state Assembly

When it was time for Lalong to address the gathering, the governor denied any involvement in the crisis rocking the state House of Assembly saying he had no hand in the impeachment of the Assembly Speaker.

Lalong said, “The House of Assembly is an autonomous body that runs its affairs independently. Having served as a Speaker who was also impeached, I have no hand in the running of the House, not to talk of the change of its leadership.”
