The Traditional Ruler of Onitsha, commercial epicenter of Anambra State, Obi Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, on Thursday, assured adequate security of lives and property as they kicked off 2025 festival.

Achebe, who disclosed this at a press conference marking the event held at Imeobi Onitsha, Onitsha North LGA, said they have equally launched a mobile application and other innovation for the event to be actionable and eventful.

The event, sponsored by Globacom Nigeria limited, the National Council for Arts and Culture, International Breweries PLC, Guinness Nigeria, Arise TV/This Day, Afia TV/Afia Radio, and Pop Central TV, NigerBev Limited, Zenith Bank, is featuring various innovation with a touch of modernism and tradition.

The Chairman, Strategic Marketing and Communications Subcommittee for the 2025 Ofala festival, Nn'emeka Maduegbuna, who addressed the conference on behalf of the committee, explained that the Ofala Mobile App are available on Android and iOS devices for real-time updates, insights into Ofala tradition, multimedia content, and a seamless festival experience.

"The app connects attendees and well-wishers worldwide with the spirit of Ofala, blending cultural heritage and modern innovation. The media accreditation for the festival will commence on September 25, 2025, and end on October 8, 2025 on www.ofala.org. All media representatives are urged to adhere to established protocols and promote the festival's message," he noted.

According to him, the festival tagged Njiko na Ntachi is aimed at celebrating the unity and perseverance, an unforgettable experience, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Onicha Ado N'Idu kingdom.

"Iru Ofala and Azu Ofala will be the high points of the festival, featuring the monarch's parade and dance, as well as elaborate displays by age-grade societies in colorful uniforms on October 17 and 18, 2025. There will also be Ofala Lecture Series at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, an annual lecture series named after Obi Nnaemeka Achebe in recognition of his contributions to public relations.

"We will also feature Oreze Art Exhibition to showcase paintings, sculptures, and ceramics works by Nigerian and African artists. There will be Ofala Youth Carnival which is a colorful street funfair showcasing Onitsha's cultural heritage. Other activities marking the celebration are Medical, Health, and Wellbeing Community Outreach, and Ofala Thanksgiving Service to thank God for the success of the festival and the monarch's reign.

"The Ofala Festival is a celebration of the rich heritage of the Onicha Ado N'Idu kingdom, showcasing royal dances, tributes, parades, and music. We aim to foster unity, promote resilience, and uphold enduring communal values that define our community. We invite all Nigerians and international visitors to join us in celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Onitsha," he added.

He added that "The purpose of the Ofala is twofold: it marks the Obi's successful negotiation of the kingdom's fortunes during seclusion and commemorates the discovery of yam as a food source. The Iru Ofala and Azu Ofala which span two days are the highpoints featuring the monarch's parade and dance, as well as elaborate displays by age-grade societies in colorful uniforms.

Notable recognitions include: Nigerian Tourism Development Commission endorsement as a major Nigerian festival. Staff of the defunct Anambra State Water Cooperation have expressed displeasure over governor Chukwuma Soludo's administration refusal to reintegrate them into the civil service and pay their salaries backlogs accruing to billions of Naira if well calculated.

The staff also rejected the out of court settlement or agreement which the State government alleged to have entered with their union with a sum of N325,562,788.17 as entitlements from 2012 to 2018.

The State government in the agreement signed in 2024 claimed to have disengaged the staff of the defunct water corporation from service on June 2, 2015 when the state House of Assembly passed a bill to establish the Anambra State Water Supply and Sanitation (WSS) Law, 2015.

The bill, which was signed into law by former Governor Willie Obiano, established the Anambra State Asset Holding Company, the Anambra State Small Town Water and Sanitation Agency, Rural Water and Sanitation Agency, the regulatory commission as well as specified the roles of government, private sector and other matters connected therewith.

But contrary to governor Soludo's administration position, the WSS law vested all the existing and new state-owned water infrastructures and assets in the urban areas including management of water services assets, investments, liabilities and staff of the water corporation to the Anambra state Urban Water Asset Holdings Corporation (UWAHC).

Unfortunately, the incumbent administration after taken over the assets of the defunct water corporation and what the troubled staff managed to garnish from some of the State government banks accounts, failed to offset the staff salaries as agreed and to redeploy them to the new agencies established by the law or State civil service.

Terms of settlement
BoadmascashNg obtained a copy of the term of settlement allegedly reached by the State Water Corporation staff though their union, Amalgamated Union of Public Cooperation Civil Service Technical and Recreational Employee (AUPCTRE) and Anambra State government on February 6th, 2024.

The document entitled Terms of Settlement, was signed by the representatives of AUPCTRE such as Comrade Benjamin Anthony (National President), Comrade Sikiry Waheed (General Secretary) and Comrade Emmanuel Onyejiaka (State Chairman). The signatories and representative of the State government were the State Head of Service, Mrs Theodora Igwegbe, the Accountant General of Anambra State, Dr Chukwudi Okoli, the Managing Director, Anambra State Urban Water Asset Holdings Corporation, Mr Ikeobi Ejiofor, and State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Sylvia Ifemeje.

It listed their agreements in eleven articles, which among other things, were that only qualified and willing staff identified through the needs assessment exercise will receive condonation of service, and release of the account with N473,000,000 garnishee in Fidelity Bank for payment of the affected workers in installments for a period of four years. The first payment was said to be N473,000,000 in 2024, N363,381,006 in 2025, with expectations that the sum of N363,381006 would paid to them in 2026, and N363,381,006 in 2027.

However, a counter resolution issued by the AUPCTRE chapter of the Anambra State Water Corporation on April 23, 2024 and signed by the Chairman, Ejiofor Okafor and Secretary, Simeon Nwafor, dismissed the entire articles in the terms of settlement, noting that they were neither part of the agreement nor consulted before, during and after the "so-called negotiation and out of court settlement."

They reminded the State government that termination of appointment of workers was against the civil service policy and section 154 (subsection 6a and b) of WSS law, in addition to the fact that they have a dedicated account payroll system even as welfare of their pensioners were not captured in the agreement.

Also, the Anambra State Water Corporation Workers Welfare Association in a letter to governor Soludo dated 15th March, 2023 requested for their active staff to be resolved into the civil service while the pensioners be transferred to the Anambra State Pension's Board.

The welfare association in the letter signed by their Chairman, Comrade Anthony Gbasuzo, the Secretary, Comrade Bede Umeadi, and three members such as Comrades- Andrew Ogbuagu, G. Obiegbuna and Hilary Izuagwu, appealed to the governor to intervene on their matter with references to Industrial Arbitration Panel (IAP) award against the State government, unpaid salaries, pensions and other entitlements.

IAP
The Industrial Arbitration Court (IAP) had in 2012 award directed the State government to pay salaries and other allowances to the State workers under the Anambra State Water Corporation, including payment of pensions and gratuity to those retired, effect appropriate promotions and salary increments across board to all the staff still in service.

But the State government refusal to implement the IAP forced the staff and others through the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporation, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Service Employees (AUPCTRE) to approach the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) Abuja to enforce the monetary part of the award.

"The garnishee proceeding was transferred to the Enugu Division of the NICN. In 14th July, 2014, an absolute garnishee order was issued to the Fidelity Bank to release the fund of Anambra State government domiciled therein amounting to N1.86 billion for Anambra State Water Corporation ( N1.5 billion) and ANSEPA (N360 million). After the disbursement, the Anambra State government further refused to pay and promote the workers in accordance with the IAP award.

"The AUPCTRE went back to NICN Enugu to enforce the remaining part of the award. We initiated another garnishee proceedings. The NICN ordered a garnishee absolute on N471,000,000. On January 11, 2022, the Anambra State government indicated their wish to appeal on 12 January, 2022 but this was never done.

"They rather met the union (AUPCTRE) which initially proposed to the State to pay the outstanding salaries (2012 up to 2018) in 3 instamental payments of N933,000,000 and a verification exercise. This was later not done. Rather they conducted a verification exercise and others which were not in the proposal submitted," the source stated.

Reactions
A member of the Anambra State Water Corporation Welfare Association and Head of Account, Mr Hilary Izuagwu lamented that about four hundred of their members have died while many are currently bedridden or incapacitated with their children and wards wallowing in abject poverty even when each of them is owed.

Izuagwu, who reiterated their positions said, "We were not consulted nor in the know the basis in which our salary claim was scaled down from N2.79 billion to N1.56 billion and the criteria for the dismissal or termination of workers which is against the Anambra State Edit of No. 3, 1999 and the provisions in the yet to be implemented WSS law.

"We condemn in very strong terms the refusal by the Anambra State government to pay the salaries of its workers in Anambra Water Corporation. We hold that this act constitutes the worst form of unfair labour practice in Nigeria," he added.

Also speaking, another staff of the agency and Assistant Information Officer, Mr Kingsley Nwabuwa, said he was surprised when he heard people saying that the State government had pay them off and employed some of them willing to work, describing it as untrue.

The staff urged governor Chukwuma Soludo to quickly look into their plights and save them and their families from hunger especially now the economy of the country is in shambles.

The corporation was officially shut down in 2012 by the state government which also laid off over 1,000 staff of Anambra State Water Corporation, Anambra State Environmental Protection Agency (ANSEPA), Volunteer Service Agency and Anambra State Marketing Company LTD.

The governorship candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC) for Anambra State November 8, 2025 gubernatorial poll has expressed commitment towards revolutionizing agriculture saying that it would boost food security and massive employment.

Ukachukwu stated this at official inauguration of his campaign council, a team, comprising politicians, welfare, operation, contacts and mobilisation, religious, youth mobilisation, security, support group, strategy and planning, women, logistics, media and other committees was inuagurated at Awka.

Ukachukwu also vowed to provide adequ ate security in addition to investment on power plant to drive economic revolution across the State with encouragement of local and international investors.

"We have plans to industrialise Anambra state. We know what we are going to do. We are going to have agricultural revolution. Anambra will invest massively on agriculture to boost people wellbeing and prosperity. We will declare a state of emergence in agriculture and provide people with all they need to revive the dying sector.

"I will provide adequate security in Anambra State to encourage both local and international investors to come in to industrialise our State. Our education will return back to its lost glory of excellence. Our health sector will become one of the best in the country again. We are prepared to govern Anambra. We have done research, we have consulted the experts, we have the blueprint on how to revive Anambra State," he added.

Speaking at the occasion, the Deputy Governorship candidate of APC, Senator Uche Ekwunife, reiterated the need for the party to work in unity and love, noting that would witness massive socieconomic development upon their election.
According to Ekwunife, voting for APC would also offer Anambra electorates opportunities to compare and contrast between the good governance to be offered by their administration and APGA led government of Chukwuma Soludo.

" We are here to offer Anambra with greater opportunities to choose between a good governance and bad governance. We have the best measure and alternative to Anambra forward. When you have tasted onugbu so much it is advisable that you taste another soup- ora, egusi and others. By the time you have tasted ora, you can now go on to compare. We will connect you to the national," she added.

On his part, the State Chairman of APC, Hon. Basil Ejidike, charged members to mobilise votes from their polling units and Local Government Areas, which according to him, was where elections are won.
Four lawmakers from Anambra State House of Assembly have abandoned their respective political parties to pitch tents with All Progressive Congress (APC), vowing to support the candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu to rescue Anambra State.

The lawmakers, Hon Paul Obu representing Orumba North (Labour Party), Hon August Ike representing Nnewi North (Young Progressive Party), Hon Patrick Okafor of Onitsha North 2 (Labour Party) and Hon Patrick Udeoba of Anambra West (Two term member, APGA), officially made their intention known to Anambra voters at inauguration of APC campaign Council for Nickolas Ukachukwu and Senator Uche Ekwunife joint tickets.

They vowed to commit their resources and time to ensuring that Ukachukwu is elected as next governor of Anambra State on November 8, 2025, adding that they would give him soft landing so as to perform beyond reasonable doubt during his tenure.

According to the lawmakers, Ukachukwu victory is assured across the 326 electoral wards, because Anambra populace had seen and witnessed the failure of governor Chukwuma Soludo's government to tackle insecurities and other challenges confronting the State.

Speaking while inaugurating the campaign council, the National Chairman of the party, Professor Nentawe Goshiwe Yilwatda, represented by the Southeast Zonal Chairman, Dr Arodiogbu Ijomah, commended the lawmakers and other members of the team for bracing up to the challenge and urged them to be united and focused to realise the dream.

According to Yilwatda, Anambra is dare to the APC and President Bola Tinubu, and they would give Ukachukwu necessary support to win the election because of his capacity and capability to influence positive change, having raised men and women strategically positioned to salvage the State.

"Anambra State is so dare to APC. We are here for victory. For this to be achieved, we have to double our efforts because this is a huge task, a very big responsibility. been restored on them. Our candidate and his deputy have raised men and women of integrity and goodwill.

"We will support him to deliver on his mandate. Our President, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu is with you.The national leadership of APC is with you. The Imo State governor and other members of the party will support your candidacy. You were carefully chosen at primary to vie for this election. Everyone must work hard to realise this project ," he added.

The National Coordinator, APGA Media Warriors Forum, Evangelist Chinedu Obigwe, has hailed governor Chukwuma Soludo for embarking on various road projects to speed people access to roads at Enugu-Otu Aguleri, Mkpunando Aguleri and Eziagulu Otu communities.

According to Obigwe, the entire Aguleri community would remain grateful to Soludo because the road projects currently ongoing at different phases have reduced their sufferings.


" He is delivering governance with empathy for the abandoned downtrodden people of Anambra State. For me, he is on a divine mission in our State and the people are happy that his divine mission is being actualised.

"The assurance Governor Soludo gave the people of Enugu Otu, Mkpunando and Eziagulu Otu Aguleri is that he will complete the ongoing 28.1km road project in phases. As at today, 8.8km that is the first phase of the project is 95percent completed.

"The remaining second and third phase will still be completed because Governor Soludo does not want to keep abandon project record in our State. As at today, the people of Enugu Otu, Mkpunando, Eziagulu Otu and Aguleri as a whole are grateful to Governor Soludo for remembering them in a special way.

" Vote for Governor Soludo, the one and only Oluatuegwu 1 of Anambra State on November 8th for the continuous transformation of Anambra State. As a matter of fact, the people of Enugu Otu Aguleri community, Mkpunando Aguleri Community, Eziagulu Otu community and the entire Aguleri community at large will remain eternally grateful to Governor Soludo for executing these 3 communities access road project.
He recalled that in the past, "you cannot go to those 3 communities through Aguleri. If you want to go there , you will go through Ayamelum road. That Enugu Otu road project was earlier tagged an impossible task but today, our own beloved Governor Soludo, the Oluatuegwu 1 of Anambra has made that impossible task to be possible.

That project 28.1km and considering the fact that it's a water locked terrain, the cost of doing 1km of road their can be used to do 5km road projects in some other parts of Anambra but Governor Soludo out of his love for the abandoned people of Enugu Otu, Mkpunando and Eziagulu otu Aguleri is investing heavily to execute that road projects.

"That project is being executed in 3phases. They are on the 1st phase of the project and the first phase is 8.1km. That first phase is almost completed because they have done stone base on the road. It's important for me to note that the people of Enugu otu did not beg Governor Soludo to execute a brand new general hospital project for them but being a humane leader that knows what is good for them, he realised on the first day he visited them through Ayamelum that they are in dire need of hospital and built a brand new general hospital for them.

"On completion of the Enugu Otu Aguleri general Hospital project, the humane Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo decided to visit Enugu Otu Aguleri again by road to inspect the ongoing Enugu Otu road project and commission the newly built general hospital. The first phase of the Enugu Otu Aguleri road project is 95 percent completed and the entire stretch of the 28. 1km road project has been made accessible through Aguleri.

"Recall that in the past , you can only go to Enugu otu through Ayamelum road. On completion of the first phase of the road project, the contractor will enter the second phase. What Governor Soludo went to do at the Enugu Otu road project was to inspect the 95 percent completed first phase of the project, have a feel of the bad portion of the remaining second and third phase of the road and to commission the newly built Enugu Otu General Hospital .

"The question to ask is why did Governor Soludo decide to drive through the tortuous road to Enugu Otu Aguleri. Some Governors will fly with chopper to the venue but Governor Soludo decided to drive through that tortuous road to Enugu otu. My mother is from that part of Aguleri, Eziagulu Otu to be precise and am openly confessing that we hardly visit our maternal home because of the bad nature of that road.

" In my interaction with the Governor, I was like Mr Governor, you really tried for accepting to go through that tortuous road to Enugu Otu Aguleri. The second and third phase has been graded but considering that this is raining season some portion of the second and third phase of the road project are bad but Governor Soludo drove through it to Enugu otu for inspection.

" He took that decision of driving through that tortuous road to Enugu otu on inspection to see things for himself. I repeat, not all Governors can do that. They will prefer to use chopper to go there. I challenge Ukachukwu to do that since he is contesting for Governor. One thing I love about Governor Soludo is that he likes putting himself on the shoe Anambra people are wearing to see how they are feeling. If they are feeling pain, he will like to have a feel of the pain and put a stop to it. This is exactly what Governor Soludo did for the abandoned people of Enugu Otu, Mkpunando and Eziagulu Otu communities," he added.

Youth have been urged to remain focused, disciplined, invest time and other resources towards self emancipation and development.

Stakeholders gave the advice at Eagles Assembly convoked by Blazing Generation Iniative (BGI), a Non-governmental and not-for-profit platform with a special interests in preparing the minds of youth for a greater tomorrow.

Speaking at the occasion, an industrialist and former governorship aspirant of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Dr Valentine Ozigbo, enjoined the youth to seek the face of God as well as conduct adequate research before following anyone as a mentor.

Ozigbo, who argued that some leaders find it difficult to appreciate smart people following them as mentees, stressed that emotional intelligence would equally help the youth to succeed because it was a master key to unlock resilience for effective leadership and lasting success in all sphere of life.

"Seek Him first and every other things will be added unto you. To find a mentor, do it yourself. Conduct research to find out those with leadership traits you want. Do not wait for them to find you. Learn from their experiences, pick those things you want to learn from them and move on to effect the desired change in society.

"Why are people looking down upon us? What is the excuse? There is no excuse in life if you want to succeed. It is important to be focused. You can learn from others experience. I have been insulted and humiliated but I have never allowed that to wear me down. Always remember that hard work pays," he stated.

On his political journey, Ozigbo, who was the governorship candidate of PDP in Anambra State 2021 poll, alleged that he was rigged out by combined forces he would not like to mention, adding that his attempt to reclaim his mandate in the forthcoming Anambra poll was again sabotaged.

According to him, the forces came after him in the Labour Party (LP) where he was almost unopposed candidate and he forced him to abandon the party.

"I left Labour Party because they have concluded on how to mess me up. I wouldn't know whatever reasons that made them planned this against me. I won't mention names of those persons. But I have learnt my lessons. I usually ask for God's direction in whatever I do. God has directed me on what to do. That was why I left. I can't join ADC because some of persons in the party can't be trusted any more," he clarified.

Ozigbo recalled that the LP during a convention held at Nnewi endorsed Mr Peter Obi as Presidential candidate for 2027, Alex Otti for Abia State Governorship poll, and others but kept mute on his ambition even when they met at State level.

According to him, at a stage those loyal to him were victimised by the party, a clear evidence of the plans to frustrate his ambition of becoming the LP governorship candidate and eventual governor of Anambra State.

The Convener, Blazing Generation Iniative (BGI), Comrade Arizechukwu Anaegbunam, had thanked Ozigbo for impacting positively on youth, noting that they would continue following his footsteps due to impactful leadership styles.

Anaegbunam described BGI as a conference, project, ministry and movement designed to birth the needed change in the community of young people, occasion paradigm shift and reengineer mindsets.

"The core of this movement lies in the desire to raise a breed of change agents, informed and refined youths who will take the baton of leadership and champion transformation in their sphere of influence. This conference is one of the few ways anchored on, to bring about revitalisation, rehabilitation, revamping, redirection of the minds of the younger generation, which wields the beacon of hope for a better tomorrow.

"To this end, we are concerned about the role of the young adults in fostering a livable and prosperous society, saddled with the responsibility of adequately equipping the leaders of tomorrow, future tycoons and trailblazers across all walks of life. Hence, we are leveraging on every arsenal within our reach to engender the scope of this project as earlier mentioned," he stated.

Speaking at the occasion, another resource person, Mr Benjamin Oyekunle, explained that the youth could build themselves as brands by investing in time and talents that matters most to them diligently and consistently without fear or favour.

"Your personality is the brand. If you set out for something, you must be ready to accomplish it. Your visions or convictions are from the passion within you. If you don't drive it, no one will do that for you. Investing time and other resources in your value matters allot. People will always remember the values you added. Your authenticity and reputation stand you out," he stated.

Also speaking, a legal luminary, Bar. Ekenechukwu Nwosu, who spoke on legality in business and enterprise, enjoined the youth to always find out if the businesses they wished to invest on is legal, and endeavour to fulfill all the legal obligations involved.

Contributing, Lady_soldout, Mrs Monalisa Eke, hinted that everything about life hinged on change of mindset, which according to her, requires reading books, meeting and studying people, risk taking and adjusting when and where necessary.

Other speakers, including the State Chairperson, International Federation of Women lawyers (FIDA), Comrade Uche Udego, Comrade Izuchukwu Osakwe and Engr Umeasiegbu Obumneme, urged youth to shun get-rich-quick syndrome, engage on lawful activities and carefully maximise available opportunities for self development and growth.

The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD-West Africa), on Thursday, urged collaboration among the stakeholders towards ensuring a credible, free and fair governorship election in Anambra State.

The Director, CDD-West Africa, Dr Dauda Garuba, who made the call at an engagement and sensitisation workshop on mandate protection and electoral integrity held in Awka, Anambra State capital with a view to empowering the religious leaders, PWDs, civil society members, transporters, media, community and market leaders, NYSC and others with rightful information.

Garuba, represented by the organisation's consultant, Mr Chibuike Mgbeahurike, reminded the stakeholders that their duties in making every election credible spans through the entire process, including before, during and after the election.

"This is a call to action. Let us play our roles diligently to ensure that Anambra State's governorship election is free, fair and credible. The stakeholders need shared unity and commitment towards realising this. We are encouraged to be proactive, vigilance and maintain our integrity. We also need to respect, support the outcomes and support peaceful transitions," he stated.

Also speaking, the Convener and State Chairman, Anambra Civil Society Network, Prince Chris Azor, explained that to protect people mandate in every election required the collaboration of the security, market women and men, transporters, voters, INEC, NYSC, religious leaders, CSOs, and others.

According to Azor, the engagement programme was necessary to encourage the political parties to uphold internal democracies as going contrary to that could equally rob the masses their mandate, while the citizenry and politicians need to understand the legal implications of their actions and inactions, including having deep knowledge of electoral terminologies, materials and others.

In a remark, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Dr Mrs Queen Elizabeth Agwu, urged parents, politicians and other stakeholders to educate their children and wards to support the commission in making their votes counts by eschewing selfishness, violence and other acts likely to breach the electoral process.

The stakeholders, while responding assured their readiness in contributing towards making the November 8 Anambra State governorship credible and fair having been adequately engaged with the Centre for Democracy Development (CDD- West Africa).


They said the programme had reawakened their consciousness and armed them with necessary knowledge to engage further with others at the grassroots towards ensuring that their votes count without records of violence, vote buying and selling, and other electoral offences.

Speaking at the workshop, Hon. Mrs Virginia Nkechi Okeke, the Chairperson, Market Women Organisation, Anambra State chapter, said they were battled ready to engage with market women and others across 179 communities so as to make them participate effectively during the poll.

Also speaking, the State Secretary, Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Hon. Uzochukwu Eminent, expressed confidence that if political parties and politicians would play their roles which included voters education without blame games, votes would count and credible leader would be elected.

To Comrade Mathias Ameke, the State Chairman of Action Democratic Party (ADP) and Governorship candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), Comrade Chioma Ifemeludike, engaging well with the electorate at the grassroots would contribute effectively in protecting the people mandate often stolen by politicians.

"The mandate actually belonged to the commoners in the village. We have seen the reason to be concerned about how to protect this mandate. They are yearning for a good leadership. We are seeing the anger and frustrations in the land for denying them their rights. We must encourage them to know their rights and how to protect their mandates," Ifemeludike stated.

Also speaking, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Society and Civil Defence (NCDC), Mr Victor Obunne, urged the parents and parties to sensitise their wards and members to refrain from engaging in electoral offences, including vote buying and selling, as well as support the security in stopping break down of laws and orders across polling units.

"Security may not be aware of the happenings in the polling units if you don't inform them appropriately. You need to inform your children and party members about this. There is no security officer that will intervene in the electoral process even on election day if they are not instructed by the INEC Presiding Officers," he argued.

He further urged the electorate to help secure the security, who according to him, were sometimes got killed, maimed or disarmed by the mob when they try to provide stop violence in polling units or collation centres.

Earlier speaking, the State Director of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr Ajaegbu Edozie, thanked the CDD-West Africa for embarking on the programme, which according to him, would help to boost the citizens knowledge and skills for effective participation in electoral processes and internalising democracy.

ACPN new leadership reassures Anambra residents of commitment for improve healthy living

The Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN), Anambra State chapter has elected a new leadership to pilot affairs of the organisation with assurance to improve the people healthy living.

ACPN, which is currently headed by Pharmacist Felix Ikenna Elendu as new State Chairman and 10 others as members, said they would never relent in upholding their principles, professional ethos and values with commitment protect members welfare.

Speaking after been sworn-in as Chairman, Pharmacist Felix Ikenna Elendu, pledged to uphold the sanctity of the profession through promotion of values to inspire growth and development of members.

Elendu, who vowed to work tirelessly to ensure that the professional body remains a beacon of excellence, promised to carry everyone along by listening and hearkening to people voices, concerns and ideas.

"I pledge to uphold the values and principles of our profession through initiatives that promote growth, development and excellence. We shall build strong relationship with stakeholders and partners. I commit to working tirelessly to ensure our professional body remains a beacon of excellence. Your voices, concerns and ideas are invaluable. I look forward to engaging with you," he added.

The immediate past Chairman of the ACPN, Pharm Henry Chekwubechukwu Iloh, while revealing some of the initiatives employed by his organisation to return the chapter to its lost glory, commended the members and other stakeholders for becoming the engine room through which his administration achieved great fit.

Iloh urged all the members to extend the support to the new government noting that they would continue defending and protecting the members from harassment as his administration did by saving millions in revenue loss due to litigation/harassment of members.

"We also have engaged in intense diplomacy and advocacy with PCN-PIC and PSN Anambra State on enforcement which has led to the resumption of enforcement in Anambra State since April 2024. The enforcement by PCN-PIC has led to the permanent closure of a number of Patent Medicine Shops in Anambra State, and have made most of them re-subject themselves to regulation by PCN, and also led to the landmark judgment in favour of PCN on fundamental human rights which was secured in the Federal High Court, Awka.

Others were growing financial membership strength from 140 to over 257, restoring their lost glory in the National affairs of ACPN following election of their member as a national officer and hosting the national Conference of the association in 2025, which has also led to siting of a Pharmacare Centre in Anambra.

"Having noticed that the majority of Anambra residents does not really understand who the community pharmacists are, and most times lump us together with charlatans and non-professionals, we intentionally engaged in public awareness in billboards, radio programs and social media across the state in order to correct this wrong perception.

"We also amended the ACPN bye-law in 2024 to improve the welfare packages for members and we have strived to ensure that those welfare
packages got to members concerned. We formed a new Anambra ACPN Cooperative Society with enough checks and balances as we understood the importance of Cooperative to a successful community pharmacy ecosystem.

"Being conscious of the importance of a reliable date we engaged MEDICONNECT to map pharmacies in Anambra state and the project
was delivered in February 2025. We now known that we have at least 403 pharmacies in Anambra state. We interfaced with PSN-YPG and have adopted the first minimum pay package for Sp’s, Corps members who are pharmacists, interns and locum pharmacists in order to improve their welfare and improve productivity.

"We have also initiated the process for mass enrolment of members into the solar project to reduce our operational cost and enhance our
practice. All we have achieved are due to your cooperation and support and we remain eternally grateful. Please extend this support to the incoming administration," he stated.

The National Coordinator, APGA Media Warriors Forum, Evang Chinedu Obigwe, has lambasted the Deputy governorship candidate of APC, Senator Iyom Uche Ekwunife, noting that her "rubbish talks" would never make the populace to vote against him.

Obigwe, who stated this in a statement while responding to Ekwunife's social media war with governor Chukwuma Soludo, argued that the APGA gubernatorial candidate would win convincingly while the voters disappoint Ekwunife on November 8 poll.

This according to him, would be as a result of the governor's "massive" performance in the first tenure.

According to him, Soludo is on a divine mission of rebuilding the State, which is why the populace will through their votes "confine Sen Uche Ekwunife and Ukachukwu to where they rightly belong on November 8."

"In all honesty, she is talking rubbish about Governor Soludo. Governor Soludo is too refined. He is a refined character.
"The good people of Anambra are happy with the transformation of our beloved State by Governor Soludo and they will vote massively for him on November 8th as a well deserved reward for his good work in the State," he added.

House of Reps Opposition Lawmakers Call for Change of Minority Leadership Over N19b Scandal

A growing discontent is brewing among opposition lawmakers in the House of Representatives, fueled by perceived compromises by the minority leadership in the 10th Assembly.

Critics accuse their leaders of being overly cozy with the All Progressives Congress (APC) government, rendering them ineffective in holding the ruling party accountable for pressing issues like crippling hardship, rampant insecurity, and widespread corruption. The lawmakers' reluctance to speak out has sparked public outcry, eroding trust in the opposition's ability to provide robust oversight.

They attribute the minority leadership's disturbing silence on the people's plight to financial inducements from the APC-led House leadership, allegedly through unequal distribution of funds and misappropriated funds in the budget, including vague 'zonal intervention projects' and other opaque initiatives used for political patronage by the National Assembly leadership. It is said that the leadership of the both arms of the National Assembly appropriate hundreds of billions to themselves in the budget in the name of phantom zonal projects.

A recent viral video in the social media where the Deputy Minority Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. George Ozodinobi, was boasting about the N19b he 'has' in the current budget cast light to this trend and further infuriated other lawmakers who are not part of the leadership of the House.

This insensitive disclosure was made at the Iwa-Iji ( New yam festival) ceremony of the Igwe of Nimo, Anambra State, where the Deputy Minority Whip, George Ozodinobi, who is planning to run for Senate made the above disclosure.

It's even more ironical that Hon. Ozodinobi is not only representing the Labour Party, but also is the representative of Mr. Peter Obi's Federal Constituency. Obi is the National leader of LP and its presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections. Obi is known to be an advocate for transparency in governance.

Statutorily, each of the 360 federal constituencies are only entitled to capital projects and zonal intervention projects not exceeding N1billion in the current budget, so many are bewildered that if Hon. Ozodinobi who is the least in the 10-man Leadership of the House could input 19B, then it could only be imagined what the others got.


Following the viral video's release, disgruntled members, already frustrated over unpaid contractors, have intensified calls for a change in leadership, particularly within the Minority Leadership of the House. They accuse the leadership of colluding with the ruling APC, citing a lack of advocacy for opposition interests. "Can you name one policy issue the minority caucus, led by Kingsley Chinda, a known Nyesom Wike ally, has championed on the House floor?" an angry opposition lawmaker fumed.

Continuing, the lawmaker stated that since it was an APC government, it is the opposition caucuses in the Parliament that should hold them to account, but that he said, was not happening because of obvious pecuniary interests.

Given the apparent level of compromise and collusion with the ruling party, opposition lawmakers question the ability of the current minority leaders to provide effective oversight and hold the government accountable, casting doubt on their commitment to genuine opposition objectives and the interests of the people.

Anambra State Civic and Social Reformation Office (ANCISRO), an agency in the office of the governor has restated its commitment towards rekindling the spirit of industriousness, truthfulness, love and other Igbo core values among the populace.

The Managing Director, ANCISRO, Sir Chuka Nnabuife, who stated this in Awka at one year anniversary get-together organised by the agency, maintained that the Igbo were known for hardwork, teamwork, communal development, peace and love, before get rich-quick-syndrome enveloped the new generation.

Nnabuife, in a one year anniversary broadcast, explained that this was why governor Chukwuma Soludo founded the agency on September 1, 2024 as a dynamic institution driving civic and social reformation across the 21 Council Areas and beyond.

The chief executive described ANCISRO as an agency that has come at its appropriate time given the extent of social decadence, internet-promoted false lifestyle and general disregard for noble values in society, including discomforting trends like election rigging, vote-selling, vote-buying, and voter-apathy.

"These would be drastically reduced. Similarly, peoples' disenchantment with their civic responsibilities would reseed to a thing of the past as we work round-the-clock to evolve creative and innovative ways of making positive changes happen in society," he stated.

According to him, the agency has emerged as a strong advocate for cultural renewal and values reorientation among Ndi Anambra, championing civic responsibility, social consciousness, and sustainable development, and have within one year used short films, books, lectures, street campaigns, radio jingles, podcasts, and school outreach programmes.

"In response to low turnout in voter registration for the forthcoming gubernatorial elections, ANCISRO launched a state-wide mobilisation drive. Campaigns visited markets, motor parks, schools, INEC centres, and held roadshows to encourage registration, yielding significant impact.

"Established on September 1 2024, in the Office of the Governor of Anambra State by Gov. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, ANCISRO literally hit the ground running. Coming three after the highly vexed Anambra State local government councils' election, the Office sprang to the task with public and media interventions on the polls.

"With articles, broadcasts, films, jingles and unprecedented social communication vigour the new office articulated, promoted and persuaded Ndi Anambra to accept the civic event. Bouyed by the boarding success the agency launched ahead, surefooted.

Umueri community in Anambra East Local Government Area (LGA), Anambra State has vowed to continue taking a lead in reviving the Igbo culture with reintroduction of ancient cultural wrestling and other indigenous sporting competition at its 2025 New Yam festival.

The festival holding on Saturday, 6th of September, 2025 will also feature the Igbo world celebrated ncho sporting competition, empowerment of the less privileged, dancing, award winning ijele and other notable masquerades recognised internationally.

The Traditional Ruler of Umueri, Igwe Dr Ben Emeka, who disclosed this at a press conference heralding the event, explained that since his assumption of office as Okebo II, Umueri has gone through cultural reformation aimed at jettisoning all the ungodly practices, embracing modernity and creating values for the people through worship of Christ.

According to him, this also informed the decision of the New yam festival committee to reintroduce wrestling under three different categories of people, and other indigenous sporting competitions geared towards promoting healthy living, wealth creation, peace and harmony among the people, residents and neighbours.

Igwe Emeka noted that the event had many sponsors, who according to him, would be offering free cooked food and food stuff, drinks, provisions and groceries to the guests, as well as empowering the less privileged during the occasion.

He enumerated some of the expected guests to include Governor Chukwuma Soludo and other top government functionaries, including the Chairman, Anambra East LGA, traditional rulers across the State, among others, adding that even those without formal invitation would be highly appreciated and celebrated.


"This year's own is very spectacle in many ways. Our people will wine and dine, clad in different attires as government will welcome the government and other guests. We urge you all to come because there will be various cultural displays and competitions you wouldn't like to miss. There will be a lot to eat, drink and even take home," he stated.

He, however, used the opportunity to implore governor Chukwuma Soludo to consider construction of Umueri portion of the road leading to Chinua Achebe International passengers and cargoes airport so as to make it easier and accessible for the people within a few minutes.

"Some of us have missed our flights while driving from our homes to the airport through Oyi LGA. This road was started by former governor Willie Obiano but yet to be completed. We are appealing for its completion at least to enable us the host community equal access to the airport in a jiffy.

"We have also noticed that hoodlums are trying to takeover the road path since it was left. We believe that completing the road will help to comb the bush path and chase away hoodlums. I am also appealing for the government and airport authority to consider increasing the numbers of flights been received in the airport to at least 2 times daily to make it very busy and boost the economy of the State and Nigeria at large.

"The government should also consider building of warehouse around the airport to attract more traffics to it. They can give out the building to private individuals through PPP," he added.

"Some cabinet chiefs of Umueri, including Chief Princess Ngozi Okoye, High Chief Joe Onuigbo, and High Chief Prof Sam Umeadi, who were elated by Igwe Okebo's transformation since assumption of office nine years ago, prayed God to strengthen him to impact more lives positively.

According to the cabinet Chiefs, his humanitarian services, contacts and goodwill have attracted several meaningful developments to Umueri, reposition them to the map of the world and created good pathway for the youth and aged to follow for continuous personal and communal development.

NUJ sets to honour Ezeobi, others, as 2025 press week nears grand finale

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, is set to conclude its annual press week with a grand ceremony on Thursday, August 28, 2025, where it will honour several distinguished individuals. The event, which marks the climax of the weeklong activities that began on August 7, will see Architect Okechukwu Ezeobi receive the prestigious 2025 NUJ Man of the Year Award.

Ezeobi, the General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra State Bureau of Public Procurement, is a renowned humanist and philanthropist. He will be following in the footsteps of past recipients, including Dr. Anthony Chinedu Umeadi (2024), HRM Igwe Alex Onyido (2023), and Dame Dr. Adaora Umeoji (2022).

Also, the NUJ will celebrate several other personalities for their contributions to society. They include:

A Profile of Excellence: Architect Okechukwu Ezeobi
Architect Okechukwu Ezeobi's journey is a testament to his dedication to excellence, innovation, and community development. From Umudala, Nanka, in Orumba North LGA of Anambra State, Ezeobi emerged as the best graduating student with both B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Architecture from the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus. As the founder of Dwellins International Ltd., an architectural firm, he was a visionary leader who championed transformative design and social responsibility. His corporate apprenticeship scheme provided free training to young people from low-income backgrounds, empowering many with skills in carpentry and construction. The youth wing of Anambra State Town Union Council (ASTUC), on Saturday, held solidarity rally in support of continuation of Agunaechemba and Udo Ga-Achi operatives, urging politicians not to politicise insecurity in the State.

This came at the heels of a similar protest held on Friday by some youth led by the governorship candidate of Young Progressive Party (YPP), Sir Paul Chukwuma who had called for disbandment of Agunaechemba and Special Anambra Anti-touting Squad (SASA) due to unprofessional conduct of some of their members.

But youth from 179 communities in Anambra State, in a counter peaceful protest round some streets of Awka to the new government house with placards of different inscriptions, sang in solidarity with Agunaechemba and governor Chukwuma Soludo's reelection.

The ASTUC youth President, Hon. Ken Okoli, who led the peaceful protest, however, condemned the 8 members of Agunaechemba spotted in a viral video assaulting a member of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Ms Jennifer Elohor and urged the government to prosecute them accordingly.

Okoli, while commending the State government for sacking the culprits and handing them over to the police for prosecution, assured that the youth across the 179 communities would continue to monitor and checkmate activities of the State security operatives to ensure they play according to the rule.

According to him, Anambra youth would not support any move to disband the operatives as it could geopardise the State security as well as empower some politicians from the opposition to scuttle or rig the November 8 governorship poll in the name of insecurity.

"We are here to show solidarity to the State government from the community level. We are working with the various institutions across the State to make Anambra State liveable to all. Anambra is our ours and we are serving Anambra State.

"We can't allow Agunaechemba and Udo Ga-Achi to be disbanded by the mistakes of some members. Anambra State Homeland Security law has empowered them to provide solutions to security challenges. We are in support that those who erred among them should be prosecuted.

"We are in support of governor Chukwuma Soludo's reelection. We are supporting the leadership of Agunaechemba to continue. They will remain as parts of security providing solutions to Anambra astate. We do not want a return to an era where people will run away from Anambra," he added.

Recieving the protesters, Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, represented by the Chief of Staff, Sir Ernest Ezeajughi, thanked the youth for having faith and believe in the State government , which according to him, would continue to reposition the State.

Soludo, who said his administration had performed well in all indices, urged the stakeholders and politicians to rather support him in tackling insecurities, as well as tell the State their economic policies if elected.

"The governor is doing very well especially in security. We have transformed various sectors. All the stakeholders need to join hands in tackling insecurities. Everyone must come together and support him. Kindly mobilise other youth across the 21 Local Government Areas and 326 wards to support the government efforts. We must resist every attempt by politicians to politicise security," he noted.

Anambra South Senatorial poll was orchestrated charade designed to decimate people voice, ADC

African Democratic Congress (ADC) Senatorial candidate for Anambra South district, Barr. Chidi Donald Amamgbo has described the recently concluded bye-election reportedly won by APGA candidate, Emmanuel Nwachukwu, as a carefully orchestrated charade designed to obfuscate, suffocate and decimate the people's voice and choice.

Amamgbo at a press conference held in Awka, Anambra State capital, maintained that the poll was not free and fair because his collation agents were tags and access to the collation centre just as APGA allegedly in vote buying.


"What we witnessed was a carefully orchestrated charade designed to obfuscate, suffocate and decimate the people’s voice and choice. Ultimately undermining the credibility of the process. I ask: How can an election be free and fair when one party is denied collation agents? That is like asking a team to play football blindfolded while the referee looks the other way.

"It was a deliberate and deviant orchestration by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) a political in Anambra. Very devastating is the fact that APGA government has normalised vote buying knowing fully well that the hungry exploited citizens of Anambra state will collect money to vote just to survive another day. In Ihiala, INEC went further by circulating a doctored list of polling agents that did not correspond with the authentic list duly submitted by our party and uploaded on the INEC portal.

"These are not mistakes. They are not clerical oversights. They are acts of sabotage. At the centre of this charade is a Senator-elect tethered to the control of Governor Charles Soludo. This is not democracy. This is puppetry Ndi Anambra South do not need a puppet senator. They need an independent voice who owes allegiance only to the people, not to any godfather or governor," he added.

He, therefore, called for a total review of the entire electoral process in Anambra South with a view "to expose and address the sabotage that took place. Institutional reforms within INEC to guarantee independence, transparency, and accountability. Proper voter and agent education, so that our people can understand their rights, defend their votes, and resist manipulation."

Amamgbo said it was necessary given that "The real victims are the people of Anambra South. They were denied the chance to elect a candidate who campaigned transparently, who funded his own movement, who made no deals with godfathers, and who pledged to serve only the people. When you deny the people their choice, you deny them justice.

"When you destroy faith in the ballot, you destroy democracy itself. Every time this happens, our children pay the price. A society that starves its people of hope cannot prosper. This election must not be swept under the carpet as “one of those things.” It is a cautionary sad tale about how vested interests and compromised institutions continue to hijack then eviscerate the people’s will.

"An end to the culture of collusion where political parties, godfathers, and electoral umpires work hand-in-hand to suppress genuine democratic choice. Fellow Nigerians, Ndi Anambra South, democracy is not a favour given to the people; it is their right. The mandate of our people cannot continue to be stolen through systemic sabotage and manipulation."

It was according to him, "dangerous pattern of systemic sabotage, desecration of all democratic norms, collusion, and deliberate disenfranchisement that threatens the very soul of our democracy. On the eve of the elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deliberately withheld the tags for our ward and local government collation agents, effectively crippling ADC’s ability to defend the votes of our people at all critical stages of collation.

"The answer is the infantile attempt to disillusion and debase ADC the primary opposition party in Nigeria. Look no further than the loquacious and bombastic statement of Professor Charles Soludo that “Labor and ADC parties are dead in Anambra”. If that was so then Anambra South is an electoral crime scene and Professor Soludo election malfeasance is the directly to blame.

Anambra schools win N2.2m on Igbo quiz competition, as group revives dying language

Three secondary schools in Awka North Local Government Area (LGA), Anambra State, were on Wednesday, blessed with the total sum of N2.2m for emerging top of others on Igbo language quiz competition organised by Nzuko Ndi-Igbo Programme Limited, a nongovernmental organisation committed to promotion of Igbo language and culture.

The quiz which was sponsored by Chief Fidelis Nweke, the Managing Director and Chief Executive officer, RivCon Energy and Construction Limited, was participated by 10 public secondary schools in the Council Area.

According to the Chief Executive Officer, Nzuko Ndi-Igbo Programme Limited, Mazi Chukwudi Ejimofor the programme became necessary due to the need to revive and reposition the Igbo language to the world class or most spoken Lingua Franca against the postulation of the the United Nations that it might go into extinct soon.

Ejimofor urged philanthropists and nongovernmental organisations to emulate the kind gesture by executing prizes and organising programmes among students in promoting Igbo language, culture and folklore via radio and television stations.

"The quiz competition was organized in a coordinated and transparent order; the elimination stage had ten schools, which produced five schools with three best losers that qualified for quarter finals/knockout stage that produces four schools for semi-finals stage and today we completed it with third place and epic finals stages of the Igbo language quiz competition," he stated.

Speaking at the occasion, the benefactor, Chief Fidelis Nweke gifted the successful schools such as Community Secondary School Mgbakwu a sum of N1M, Community Secondary School Amansea- N700,000, and Community Secondary School Achalla- N500,000 for emerging as first, second and third positions respectively at Igbo quiz competition.

Nweke, represented by Mr Pascal Iwu, said the passion to sponsor the competition was driven by his love to make Igbo language become one of the competitive languages of study and spoken in the world.

“We decided to do this to see how we can revive and revitalize Igbo language to be recognized and be among the competing languages in the world. We are worried that an average Igbo man today lives in a borrowed culture. But no matter how hard we try to live western life and culture, it is not possible. The best thing is to embrace Igbo language and culture because it is our own identity," he stated.

He expressed committment towards ensuring that the next edition could be extended to all the public secondary schools in Awka North and Awka South LGAs.

Also speaking, a stakeholder in Awka North LGA, Ozo Agbatua Julius Emeka, commended the sponsor and urged benefitting schools and students participants to be committed towards promoting the language by making it an official language of communication at homes, churches, among other places.

On his part, the Chairman, Awka North Local Government Area, Hon. ThankGod Anago, represented by his Deputy, Hon. Scholastica Onwubufo urged the students not to allow anyone to deceive them into abandoning their studies for any engagement so as to graduate to become leaders at various endeavours.

Speaking in interviews, the Principal, Community Secondary School, Amansea, Mrs Sabina Okpara, represented by Mrs Stella Nwafor, and a student of Community Secondary School, Mgbakwu, Miss Chiamaka Obidimma, expressed happiness over the outcome of the programme, assuring that it would inspire them to succeed academically and otherwise.

The 44th International Scientific Conference of Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) has ended in Awka, Anambra State capital with a call on the Federal government to establish a good framework for effective regulatory of pharmaceutical products with conflicts of interests between the NAFDAC and PCN.

The event which began under the theme 'Technology integration and personalized care: the future of community pharmacy practice” and tagged “Ifeadigo 2025," featured presentations, panel discussions, exhibitions and others, and attended by over 5000 members including representatives of NAFDAC, PCN, PSN, captain of industries, to name but a few.

Speaking at the programme, the National President of ACPN, Pharmacist Ambrose Igwekamma Ezeh, explained that creating a clear regulatory frameworks between the NAFDAC and the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) would prevent disruptions in pharmaceutical practice in Nigeria for improved regulations and public.

Ezeh, who also spoke on the choice of Anambra State for the event, urged members to leverage on the theme and discussions around it for improved use of digital technology in practices to entrench professionalism.

Delivering a Keynote address on 'Digital Health, Personalized Care, and the Now of Community Pharmacy Practice,' Prof. Michael Ubaka of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka observed that community pharmacists have enormous impact in society and urged them to strive to perform the roles by integrating digital health and personalized care into their practices to facilitate access to universal healthcare.

According to him, ACPN members due to their nearness to the people should work tirelessly in providing health education to all, including immunization and management of chronic disease, and assistance to ensuring that the citizenry enjoy equal access to Universal health coverage.

On his part, the Chief host and Anambra State governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo reassured the members of of his administration's commitment to promote manufacturing, marketing and effective distribution of quality drugs in the State.

The governor, who explained that the government was aware that health is wealth, noted that the administration would not allow fake and substandard drugs to reign supreme in Anambra State due to its health hazards and urged the members of ACPN to support the efforts by getting ride of quackery in the profession.

"I want you to do a whole lot more through self regulatory and self censorship. Regulate your members in terms of professional ethics so that when we see something that carries the pharmacists superintendent we will go home and sleep. We don't want such a thing like substandard or illegal drugs in circulation in any part of the State.

"We also acknowledge that with advancements of technology and Artificial Intelligence, everything about medicines will be viewed totally differently in years to come. We are very intentional to ensure that every drug manufactured, marketed or distributed here are of the best quality," he assured.

According to him, the government was intentional about delivery of quality health services to the populace which was why it has strengthening the primary health centres culminating into their winning prizes at the regional and national levels and he would soon deliver the Coordinated Wholesale Centre (CWC) in Oba for effective regulation, manufacturing and distribution of drugs.

“Healthcare is a teamwork. All doctors, pharmacists, nurses, and health workers have to collaborate for greater impact. In Anambra, we’re doing that. I want to assure you that we will continue , and we will complete the CWC at Oba before your next PSN National Conference. We’re not just building structures, we’re institutionalising reforms," he added.


Contributing, the National President of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Pharmacist Tanko Ayuba Ibrahim, commended the governor for playing a host to the event and for making the State friendly to pharmacists through provisions of basic amenities, urging him to sustain the tempo.

Ibrahim, who described Soludo as Pharmacy-friendly governor, also commended him for accepting to the 99th National conference of the PSN, which according to him, would bring core professionals in the industry across the world to brainstorm and chat ways forward for effective and efficient health delivery.

He, however, urged community pharmacists not to relent in delivering their services to the populace professionally because according to him, they are the point of call to people at the grassroots “as the face of Pharmacy, whoever is sick will come to you. Therefore, continue to shine the light."

Also speaking, the Chairman, Board of Trustees of ACPN and former president of PSN, Uno Uwaga expressed happiness for establishment of a quality control laboratory in Anambra State which he described as a potential national benchmark noting also that with a donation of landed property for a research centre for industrial pharmacists, the proposed pharmaceutical industrial hub, and other reforms would help to improve access to health.


Speaking in an interview, the state Chairman of ACPN, Pharmacist Henry Iloh expressed happiness over the success of the programme noting that the key points and discussions would form parts of their professional practices.

Earlier speaking, the Chairman of the opening ceremony, Pharm. Ike Onyechi, represented by Pharm. (Dr.) Ignatius Anukwu, stressed the importance of digitalising community pharmacy as innovative solutions to enhance health service delivery in Nigeria.

ACPN protects rights and privileges of members operating across communities in the 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Nigeria. They can retail, mix, compound, handle, produce, manufacture and dispense drugs and poisons to the patients.

As affiliate of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, (PSN) and commited member of International Pharmaceutical Federation/ Community Pharmacy Section (FIP/CPS), ACPN is poised to empower members to embrace international best pharmacy practice while collaborating with other stakeholders to promote quality healthcare.

Geeks and Founders Alliance for Soludo (GEFAS), a Tech-driven network of young professionals, on Thursday unveiled fully digitalised office space and platform for mobilising votes for reelection of the governorship candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Professor Chukwuma Soludo.

The techies who said they were wowed by the governor's achievement within three years in office said they would ensure that he wins landslide across all the polling units and wards on November 8 poll.

Anambra State governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, who unveiled the operational hub in Awka, expressed happiness that the generation Z people had found love with his administration by opening a support group and a digital space in his honour.

Soludo, represented by the Secretary to the State government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, urged them to secure their space and ensure that bad eggs would not intrude and deter them from achieving their objectives.

"Our target is to win the forthcoming election and continue with our good works for Ndi Anambra. Anambra is APGA and APGA is Anambra. We want you to make them know that there is no vacancy in Anambra State. We thank you for what you are doing. We are winning all the polling units even if is with one vote. We are grateful that you have come out to support our relection without requesting for any support from the government.

" But do not allow the opposition to hijack it. We are excited that Soludo's government is changing all aspects of economy. He is redefining and changing campaign strategies too. It shows that the youth will not only vote for Soludo but assist in getting people to feel the pulse of the government. We will see how we can integrate this platform into governance ," he stated.

On his part, the Special Adviser (SPAD) to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Politics, Dr Alex Obiogbolu also commended the youth for establishing the support group and digital space, assuring that the governor would impact more lives through digital innovation if reelected.

Earlier speaking, the Convener, GEFAS, Mr Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata said the space was was founded to support Soludo's government which according to him, had support youth emancipation and empowerment in all angles,

“This space is a reflection of our shared commitment to digital progress and what young innovators can achieve when we unite behind a bigger vision: the re-election of Governor Soludo. Governor Soludo has done wonderfully well. We are doing it because he loves youth and innovation, and has done so many things to build and empower youth in digital technology. We have created this platform to ensure that his continuation is assured. He has done well. His government is built on everything technology and technology everywhere," he added.

The Young Progressive Party (YPP) Deputy Governorship Candidate for the November 8 Anambra State election, Hon. Uzu Okagbue, has said the state needs a leader who understands the yearnings and aspirations of its people.

Okagbue, who served as Chief of Protocol and Deputy Chief of Staff to former Governor Willie Obiano, argued that any government led by a myopic or sectional leader or surrounded by such cabinet members would fail to deliver the dividends of democracy to the citizenry.

He stated this while interacting with the State Executive and members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, at his residence in Umunnachi, Dunukofia Local Government Area. He emphasized that a credible leader must genuinely cater to the needs of the people.

Uzu alleged that the current administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo has failed to address the socioeconomic challenges facing the populace, adding that petty traders, transporters, and artisans were daily subjected to harassment and brutality for refusing to pay multiple taxes.

He urged citizens to reject the politics of zoning and the personalisation of public resources and development, arguing that such practices deny the people inclusive and effective leadership.

"This administration is not getting everything right. I worked in former Governor Willie Obiano’s administration, and I know that what enables a leader to impact lives is having good people in their cabinet. Anambra State needs a leader who understands the pulse of the people. You don’t vote for someone because of material gain or because they come from one zone or the other.

"We need leadership that will holistically develop Anambra State. We need leadership that recognises insecurity as our most pressing challenge and tackles it head-on. We don’t need a leader who will suffocate the poor masses with multiple taxes. Sir Paul Chukwuma understands the Anambra populace and will deliver on his mandate if elected on November 8," he stated.

The Young Progressive Party (YPP) Deputy Governorship Candidate for the November 8 Anambra State election, Hon. Uzu Okagbue, has said the state needs a leader who understands the yearnings and aspirations of its people.

Okagbue, who served as Chief of Protocol and Deputy Chief of Staff to former Governor Willie Obiano, maintained that any government led by a myopic or sectional leader—and surrounded by such cabinet members—would fail to deliver the dividends of democracy to the citizenry.

He made this assertion while interacting with the State Executive and members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, at his residence in Umunnachi, Dunukofia Local Government Area. He stressed that a credible leader must genuinely cater to the needs of the people.

According to him, the current administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo has failed to address the socioeconomic challenges facing the populace, noting that petty traders, transporters, and artisans are daily subjected to harassment and brutality for refusing to pay multiple taxes.

He urged citizens to reject the politics of zoning and the personalisation of public resources and development, arguing that such practices deny the people inclusive and effective leadership.

"This administration is not getting everything right. I worked in former Governor Willie Obiano’s administration, and I know that what enables a leader to impact lives is having good people in their cabinet. Anambra State needs a leader who understands the pulse of the people. You don’t vote for someone because of material gain or because they come from one zone or the other.

"We need leadership that will holistically develop Anambra State. We need leadership that recognises insecurity as our most pressing challenge and tackles it head-on. We don’t need a leader who will suffocate the poor masses with multiple taxes. Sir Paul Chukwuma understands the Anambra populace and will deliver on his mandate if elected on November 8," he stated.

Prince Ukachukwu in an interactive session with members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra chapter,at Godwin Ezeemo International press centre, Awka, Said he will tackle the menace of insecurity in the state if elected the governor.

Speaking through his representative, Chief Dozie Ikedife Jnr, South East organizing secretary of the APC, the business mogul and political icon,noted that Anambra state needs a more responsible government in the area of security.

However, Prince Ukachukwu,who is in a joint ticket with former Senator Uche Ekwunife (Iyom), expressing dissatisfaction with the current state of increased Insecurity in the state , promised not to disappoint ndi Anambra in the area of security.

Furthermore, the governorship hopeful, assured ndi Anambra of a stable socioeconomic environment through increased food production and proper utilisation of mineral resources in the state.

A spiritualist and custodian of Igbo culture, Chief Dr Ramas Okoye-Asuzu (Akajiofo Ndi-Igbo), on Monday, urged the federal government and National Assembly to make necessary amendments in Nigeria's constitution especially the removal of immunity clause for the president, governors and other political class.

Immunity, according to him, is why most politicians were engaging in corrupt and other inhuman practices to the detriment of the masses, thereby scuttling the dreams of the founding fathers of Nigeria.

" The immunity clause in our constitution has been serially abused by the high and mighty in the corridors of power. People especially the political class hide under the protection of their immunity status to break the law because their immunity makes them above the law. For such reasons the immunity of people especially the political class should be revoked to checkmate the excesses of these unscrupulous persons," he added.

He made the call on occasion of his 68 year old birthday celebration marked with pomps and pageantry at the Temple of Justice, Nri, Anaocha Local Government Area, Anambra State, noting that God has provided him with solutions to the diverse challenges.

According to him, the negative policies affecting the country were endless and include ownership of oil wells, immunity of corrupt officials, lopsided appointment of INEC officials, allowing corrupt people to manage NYSC, among others.

"Our oil is a natural gift from God. This gift should not be in the hands of a few unpatriotic Nigerians. Our oil wells should be nationalized. It belongs to the people and not to a handful of corrupt persons who have exploited our oil resources for their own selfish gains. Our oil is our commonwealth that should be used for the general good of all Nigerians.

"INEC should be overhauled for the general good of the voting population. The INEC chairman should be a de-tribalised and unbiased umpire who can conduct free and fair elections that will enthrone the right leaders for the country. Prof. Humphrey Nwosu"s Option A4 which is a classical, tried and trusted electoral process should be adopted from free and fair elections."

On the NYSC, Okoye-Asuzu bemoaned the activities of corrupt officials, who according to him, have compromised the system and urged the Federal government to overhaul and reform the scheme.

"This laudable project for national integration should be reformed to meet with the ideals of the concept which has been compromised by successive corrupt officials at the helm of its affairs," he added.

He equally urged the Federal government to tackle the state of insecurity and what he termed the the horrifying display of impunity by bands of bandits as it was becoming alarming and greatly disturbing.

"Our armed forces should be trained in modern ways of combating insecurity. This is the 21st century and our armed forces should be reformed and equipped with the tolls to suit the changing times. Also, part of the reform will involve weeding of all the bad eggs in the Police Force that have made the country a living hell," he noted.

The spiritualist further enjoined the government at all levels to stop excessive spending by reducing the numbers of appointments, including the resources thrown out on public events without recourse to the basic amenities that could better the lives of the masses.

"This constitutional provision should be respected and applied as in a true democracy. The powers of the three arms of government namely the Executive, the Legislature and then Judiciary should be separated. Each should be independent and act as checks and balances that ensures that no arm oversteps its limits. This arrangement forstalls the extravagant resources lavished by the Executive arm on the Legislators and the Judiciary which compromises their conscience and makes them willing tools of the Executive arm ot government. This situation results in unchecked bad governance.

"Honourable members should be paid sitting allowances only. The extravagant resources lavished on Honourable members by the Executive arm of government compromises their consciences making them willing tools of the Executive. Also, Honourable members should not see their elections into the National and State Assemblies as permanent jobs. They only attend plenary sessions and get paid for that only.

"All tiers of government should curtail the excesses which makes governance very expensive. They should do away with expensive bulletproof cars. If you are doing well, why should you be afraid of an attack. Extravagant allowances and appointment of so many Personal Assistants and Advisers and sundry political appointments.

"Cut down on inflated allowances, extensive entourage, inflated contracts etc. In fact, all government expenditures and unnecessary baggages should be curtailed. Governments should go beyond construction of roads. Emphasis should shift to the provision of necessary infrastructure that has the potential of truly developing their respective states.

"I wish to appeal to the conscience of our political office holders, the intelligentsia, Labour leaders,, market executives, the business community, the clergy etc to graciously apply the best practices of their respective professions in all their undertakings to make the country a great place for all."

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Thursday, appealed to Anambra State residents to participate on the Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise holding from July 8 to 17, 2025 ahead of November 8 gubernatorial poll.

The State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr Queen Elizabeth Agwu, who disclosed this at a press conference, explained that the exercise holding across 326 registration centres (electoral wards) would hold even on weekends.

According to Agwu, the CVR would enable those who recently clocked 18 years and above to register for fresh voters card, while those applying for transfer or change of voting centres, and information update could equally do so.

She, however, explained that the new CVR would only be used for participation in November 8 gubernatorial poll and not to be used for the bye-election slated to hold for Anambra South senatorial and Onitsha North 1 constituency on August 16, 2025.

"The CVR is to give everyone a fair hearing for inclusivity. It will start by 9am to 3pm. Please don't say it doesn't concerns you. Stick to the time. Don't pay anyone to register. Walk up to the place and register and go. It won't take your time," she added.

Agwu further explained that training for Ad-hoc staff and other officials to participate on the CVR, bye and governorship elections have commenced in line with the electoral guidelines just as engagements have equally started with key stakeholders.

Hausa and Yoruba communities in Anambra State have endorsed the governorship candidate of Action Alliance (AA), Ozo Jeff Nweke for November 8 poll, vowing to deliver him.

The communities at a media rally tagged ‘Meet Jeff’ held in Awka, State capital, recalled how Nweke has being protecting them for years even as the community offered the Muslims land to build a mosque since 40 years ago.

Speaking at the occasion, the leader of Yoruba community, Alhaji Kehinde Alade and Youth leader of Hausa community, Alhaji Husein Magaji vowed to mobilise their natives residing across Anambra State to vote for AA.

Magaji said, “He means a lot to Hausa community. He responds to our problems. Any time we call him he responds. He brings food to Hausa community during fasting period."

Also speaking, a native of Awka, Ozo Akubilo argued that it was turn of his people to produce the next governor of Anambra State and Jeff Nweke remains the best candidate they could offer given to his antecedents and humanitarian services.

In a remark, the State Chairman of AA, Hon. Norbert Okoli assured Anambra residents that the party would provide the needed development they deserve through Jeff Nweke as according to him, he would uphold rule and law and allow businesses to thrive.

Earlier speaking, the governorship candidate of AA, Ozo Jeff Nweke said his government, if voted to power, would stabilise the state economy, revive the security, improve infrastructure and create employments to better people lives.

"I will improve the State security with provisions of modern equipment, training and retraining, intelligence gathering. Don't vote for those who cannot secure you. If you vote for me, you will never regret it because I don't have sponsor. The masses, civil servants, traders, all of you are my sponsors. I will never let you down. I will run an open door policy," he added.

I was at the Community Development Primary School field, Nneyi, Umueri, where I spent quality time with my kinsmen and our good neighbours - residents of Nneyi who are not from Nneyi. At the gathering were the community's chairman, Amechi Okike Onwualor, Chief Peter Melikam, who is the oldest man in the village. The Custodian of Aja Ana Umueri, Chief Obiekwe Aghadinuno, Chief Akputali Ameke Takwas, Chief Alfred Nwaor, among many other leaders and stakeholders of the community.

This meeting marked my appearance to my brothers and sisters to formally inform them that we are on the ballot with a burden that Anambra Deserves Better and must be placed where it belongs.

The reception was beyond all expectations, as multiple hundreds of people came out to receive us with open arms and a face that radiates joy and total acceptance. Everyone in Nneyi gave their unrestrained seal of approval to our message of hope and restitution for Anambra State.

The entire community resolved that their support and votes are 100% for the Young and Progressive family in Anambra State, come November 8, 2025.

The event came ahead the party's official kick-off of the Governorship campaigns which according to the Electoral Guidelines/schedule earlier released by the Indepemdent National Electoral Commission (INEC) started on June 11,2025.

Prince Ukachukwu was hosted alongside the APC National Chairman, HE Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in Abuja.

The very outstanding colourful event was also used by the party hierarchy to publicly reaffirm their unwavering commitment towards their eagerness to take over Anambra state vide the November 8 2025. They equally avowed an unflinching support for Prince Ukachukwu, better known within political circles as Ikukuoma (Wind of Glory).

The party's anticipated electoral triumph they reiterated was in line with President Ahmed Bola Tinubu's earlier charge for APC to go get Anambra, so that they join other progressive States who have been enjoying the benefits of national grid politics.

Back home in Anambra State, news of the endorsement has thrown the State into frenzy just as a party chieftain, Emma Okpala noted that it's now clear to the opposition parties that have been falsely claiming a non existent working alliance with President Tinubu of being delusional.

A Consultancy Firm, Joenewideas International, on Thursday, vowed to support the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to fight unemployment by training and empowering 20 million Nigerians on conversion of waste to wealth.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO), Joenewideas, Professor Ifemenanwa Joseph Okeke, who disclosed this at a press briefing in Awka, explained that the beneficiaries for the training would be youth across 36 States and federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

According to him, the programme fashioned after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's renewed hope agenda would empower the youth with skills on recycling of human and agro-allied waste products (Waste to Wealth Project).

Others include fabrication of industrial solar energy, recycling of waste products and manufacturing of machines for green energy and sustainable agriculture.

"We are not doing this to gather profits but to support Mr President to achieve his vision of making every Nigerian an employer of labour. We are going to use what we know and what we have through our skills acquisition programmes to empower the 20 million unemployed youths across the States of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory FCT Abuja.

"We want every Nigerian youth under this current administration to be legally engaged in doing one thing or the other. We are honoured to extol the virtues of Mr. President, who has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the growth and development of our beloved country. In commemoration of World Day Against Child Labour, the Special Adviser to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo on Youth Empowerment Programme, Dr. Nelson Omenugha, has reiterated Anambra State Government commitment to eliminating child labour through strategic policies and initiatives.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, held in Awka, Dr. Omenugha emphasized that Governor Soludo has been intentional in tackling child labour by ensuring free and compulsory education at all levels across the state.

“The Governor has provided free education in Anambra State, understanding that education is a great enabler and equalizer,” Omenugha stated. “He has also enacted laws mandating that every child must be in school and anyone found abusing or exploiting children faces the full wrath of the law.”

Reflecting on the 2025 World Day Against Child Labour theme, “Progress is clear but there is more to do: Let’s speed up efforts,” Dr. Omenugha noted that Anambra has already made significant strides. “In less than three years, Governor Soludo has provided both the legal and executive frameworks to ensure that every child born in Anambra is well protected and given access to education and healthcare,” he said.

He highlighted the state achievements, including free antenatal care, free nursery, primary and secondary education, as well as bursaries for tertiary level students. According to Dr. Omenugha, these policies reflect government determination to raise useful and empowered citizens.

“Currently, Anambra State has one of the lowest rates of out-of-school children in Nigeria just 0.2%,” he disclosed. “Child labour is virtually non existent in the state thanks to deliberate and sustained interventions.”

In addition to the gains in child protection, Dr. Omenugha also announced the next phase of government One Youth, Two Skills programme, under which about 8,000 youths will be trained and empowered.

“We are in an election year, and while propaganda is inevitable, the facts remain clear — the Soludo administration is investing heavily in young people and laying the foundation for a prosperous future,” he added.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, Comrade Emeka Odogwu, PhD, informed Dr. Omenugha of his nomination for the Outstanding Youth Mentor Award, to be presented on August 25, 2025, at the International Convention Center, Awka.

Comrade Odogwu applauded Dr. Omenugha for his exemplary service, grassroots impact and ability to galvanize, mobilize and mentor young people across the state. “You have distinguished yourself as a key youth figure in this administration. This award is unique and unprecedented recognition of your service,” he noted.

He further disclosed that the award will be be given alongside NUJ Man of the Year honour and is expected to be one of the highlights of the Union annual press week.

Highlight of the visit was the presentation of a public address system to NUJ by Dr. Omenugha, a gesture which was received with gratitude by the Council.

Anambra Patriots for Soludo Flag Off Campaign, Target One Million Votes for Governor Soludo

The Anambra Patriots for Soludo, a prominent grassroots support group, officially flagged off their campaign in support of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo ahead of the November 8, 2025 gubernatorial election.

The event, held at Government House Perm-Site Market Ukwuorji in Awka, marked a strategic beginning to the group mobilization effort, aligning with Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines.

The flag-off ceremony featured the distribution of customized aprons to market women seen as a key voter bloc in the state symbolizing both endorsement and commitment to Governor Soludo re-election bid.
The aprons, equipped with zipper pouches for convenience were designed to not only promote Soludo candidacy but also support traders in their day to day activities.

Speaking during the event, the Convener of the group and Managing Director of Anambra State Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Arch. Okey Ezeobi, emphasized that the movement is part of a broader initiative titled “Rebrand Anambra with Soludo.” He described the Governor as a transformational leader and a “jinx breaker” who has consistently delivered beyond expectations.

“We are targeting one million votes for Soludo. The people see what he has done, especially in the markets. Women are voluntarily embracing this campaign because they identify with the progress his governance has brought,” Ezeobi stated. “Soludo is turning Anambra into a destination, people are coming to live, work and invest. That is the vision we are backing.”

He applauded the improved security situation across the state, particularly in Awka, noting that the return of nightlife and increased commercial activity were indicators of progress. According to him, the deployment of the state new security outfit, Agunechemba, and tighter security measures, including military checkpoints, have significantly reduced crime, especially kidnapping.

Addressing Journalists, the Chairman of the support group, Chief Ejiamatu Enekwechi reinforced the strategic focus on market women, asserting that women constitute the largest voting demographic. “Women cast the highest number of votes in Nigeria. That is why we are reaching them first. These aprons are not just campaign materials but tools to support their businesses,” he explained, adding that every market trader in the state will eventually receive one.

Speaking also, the Managing Director of Anambra Medical Oxygen Production Plant and a member of the support group,Mrs. Nwamaka Arinze, praised the Governor infrastructure initiative. “Before now, farmers struggled to bring out their produce due to bad roads. But today, they have access. Soludo has built roads and even a fun city for leisure. He is turning Anambra into a model state,” she stated

Mrs. Arinze further urged traders to adopt better sanitation practices, particularly proper waste disposal, to help preserve the newly constructed roads.

In their separate reactions at the flag-off a trader Mrs.Maria Rapuruchukwu, a plantain seller, expressed gratitude for the apron, vowing to vote for Soludo. “I will be putting my money inside this apron. Solution is here. Soludo is our next governor,” she declared.

Another trader, Mrs. Ifeoma Ofodile said “This apron is good for my business. I am voting Soludo,” she said. Mrs. Evelyn Onyema, a fruit vendor appreciate members of the group while Emengi Helen noted that she had already started using the apron and praised the road tarring done by Soludo in the market area.
Others, including Mrs. Blessing Nwakeze and Chikodili Igwenagu, described the apron as “fine” and expressed confidence in Soludo re-election, affirming: “He has already won.”
