In a landmark event that blended infrastructure development with heartfelt recognition of legacy, Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, today commissioned the road leading to the Chinua Achebe International Airport, Umueri, and announced its renaming to “Willie Obiano Boulevard” in honour of his immediate predecessor, Chief Willie Obiano.

The commissioning, held at the gateway to the Chinua Achebe International Airport, attracted an impressive gathering of dignitaries, including members of the State Executive Council, traditional rulers, House of Assembly members, community leaders, and political stakeholders from across Anambra State.

Dignitaries present at the event included the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim; the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze; the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme; Deputy Chief of Protocol and Deputy Chief of Staff, Chief Chinedu Nwoye.

Others are the former House of Representatives member, Hon. Chinedu Obidigwe; former Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor; Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Matters and Community Affairs, Chief TonyCollins Nwabunwanne; Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr. Julius Chukwuemeka; Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi; among others.

Governor Soludo, addressing the gathering, described the event as “a unique commissioning, considering the calibre of people present,” and emphasized that the gesture was more than symbolic—it was a message of unity, continuity, and respect for those who contributed to Anambra’s development.

“I don’t really need to be thanked because I am doing what I applied to do,” he said. “Doing what has not been done and improving what has already been done. The philosophy remains—one state, one people, one agenda. No one should be left behind. To me, the state is one constituency. Therefore, everyone and every area must be carried along.”

The governor further explained the inclusive developmental model of his administration, recalling his visits and interventions in neglected regions of the state, particularly the northern axis.

“We must recognize that the North, which has the largest land mass but lacks heavily in infrastructure, is the reason I started work there, particularly in Okpoko,” he noted. “A few weeks ago, we returned to Okpoko to commission what we have done—projects that give people life. The same applies to Olumbanasa, where no governor had ever visited before. Now, we are opening up that axis with planned connection roads to Eziagulu-Otu, Mkpumnando, and others.”

Soludo recounted his emotional experience when he first visited Enugu-Otu, Aguleri.

“I cried publicly when I went to Enugu-Otu for the first time. Past governments may have ignored it due to the difficult terrain, but that must change. We are working to ensure that no part of Anambra is left behind.”

But the climax of the event was the honour bestowed on Chief Willie Obiano. Soludo lauded the former governor’s efforts during his tenure, particularly in initiating the airport project and constructing the International Convention Center (ICC) in Awka.

“Today, we celebrate one of our own—Chief Willie Obiano. He did his best. The airport, the ICC, and many other legacies. We must appreciate him and send a message—not only to him, but to all past governors of Anambra State. They must be appreciated and immortalized.”

He compared the naming of the road to “Willie Obiano Boulevard” to the famed “Bill Clinton Drive” leading to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, describing it as a fitting tribute to a man who dared to dream and deliver.

Stakeholders from Oyi and Anambra East—including traditional rulers, legislators, and the Mayor—showered praises on Soludo for his inclusive governance style and for recognizing the contributions of his predecessor.

His Royal Majesty, Igwe (Sir) Ben Emeka, the traditional ruler of Umueri, thanked Governor Soludo for completing the road and other impactful projects, and passionately appealed for the extension of road infrastructure to link Anambra East, Ayamelum, and Anambra West to the airport.

“This is how leaders ought to lead—with a sense of history, unity, and purpose,” remarked Igwe Ben Emeka.

His Royal Majesty, Igwe P.N. Anugwu (Ogilisi Igbo), traditional ruler of Ukwalla and Chairman of the Anambra North Traditional Rulers’ Council, commended the governor and pleaded for the ongoing Anambra West road to be extended beyond Nzam to the remote Olumbanasa communities.

Barr. Obiora Nweke (Elegelede), representing Anambra East in the Anambra State House of Assembly, and Hon. Innocent Ojike (Ojicam), representing Oyi Constituency, also expressed their appreciation to the governor for siting key developmental projects in Anambra North, saying it reflects a balanced and inclusive administration.

The unveiling of the new boulevard was marked with applause, cheers, and cultural displays—capturing the moment’s deep significance. It wasn’t just a road that was commissioned—it was a bridge across generations of leadership, a statement of shared destiny.

Governor Soludo ended with a powerful message: “We are building Anambra and its children for the future. Let history remember that we honoured our heroes, united our people, and laid a foundation that could not be shaken.”

The Association of Non-Indigenes in Anambra State (ANIAS) has extended congratulatory messages to key gubernatorial candidates across major political parties ahead of the November 2025 governorship election, while urging residents to uphold peace and political tolerance.

In a statement issued on Sunday April 6, 2025 and signed by its leadership, the association congratulated the incumbent governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, and his running mate, Dr. Ibezim Onyekachi, on their emergence as the governorship ticket holders for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Similarly, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Chief George Muoghalu of the Labour Party were also commended by ANIAS for their successful nominations, with the group hailing their commitment to public service and democratic principles.

The statement was jointly signed by the president of the association Prince Chigozie Nweke , Associate Woman leader Mrs. Victoria Bata Okafor and the youth leader Comrade Godwin Otu.

The group emphasized the need for peaceful coexistence among political supporters, warning against inflammatory rhetoric, electoral violence, and divisive politics. It urged political stakeholders and their followers to respect each other’s ideologies as the state heads into a crucial election season.

“ANIAS calls on the good people of Anambra State to maintain the peaceful coexistence of political ideologies during the forthcoming Governorship Election,” the statement read. “We urge supporters across different political circles to respect one another and avoid politics of bitterness and evil practices.”

The association also cautioned its members against becoming instruments of political violence or manipulation, saying, “One does not set fire to his or her own home.” The metaphor, they explained, is a reminder that no political goal is worth the destruction of communal peace and safety.

Founded as a platform to promote unity and protect the interests of non-indigenes living in Anambra, ANIAS said it would continue to work with government and civil society to encourage voter participation, civic education, and issue-based campaigns.

As political campaigns begin to take shape, observers have lauded ANIAS for setting a tone of civility and constructive engagement, calling on other community-based organizations to emulate their example.

In the spirit of think-home philosophy of the Igbo nation, a Nigerian-Canadian citizen, Hon. Oliver Nwannebuike Okennah, on 2nd April, 2025 wowed the people of Awka North Local Government (LGA), Anambra State as he empowered students and unveiled some primary schools renovation projects undertaken in recent time, and others he would invest on soon.

Okennah, known in his country-home, Ebenebe as "Dikemba" loosely translated as Warrior or illustrious son of the soil, had toured some schools in his community and others in the neighbouring Awba-Ofemili, another agrarian community in Awka North LGA.

The philanthropist of international repute was accompanied at the multiple events by Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu led State Working Committee (SWC) of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council. The Council had in November 2024 bestowed on him the NUJ Most Innovative Entrepreneur of the year during which he was represented by the Traditional Ruler of Ebenebe, HRM Emeka Nnaegbuna and cabinet, including his father, Chief Emmanuel Okennah (Owelle Ebenebe) and others.

Awba-Ofemili
Okennah as a lover of children and education, told the journalists that he was moved to tears when he was driving through Awba-Ofemili few years back and noticed that several classroom blocks at their Central Primary School (CPE) had dilapidated. He was deeply pained because one of the affected school's buildings and classrooms belonged to the pupils in the nursery section.

"I walked through the school premises, inspecting all the buildings and surrounding environments. I came as an ordinary visitor; so I don't think anyone noticed me. I did not speak to the teachers. But I saw them, and pupils were learning in the dilapidating classrooms," he stated.

On inquiry, Okennah was told that the pupils were usually moved to another classroom occupied by their seniors whenever there is heavy downpour. To stop exposing the children to such unhealthy environment, he quickly mobilise the school management with the necessary building materials and other resources needed for re-roofing, bricks works, mason, among others.

He has also extended the kind gesture to Ezi-Icheke primary school, Awba-Ofemili, assuring that he would do more to improve the learning condition of the pupils and students in Anambra State and beyond.

"I have passion for education. I have passion for children. That is why I always visit schools whenever I return to Nigeria. I always love to check on you; to see how you're faring before travelling back to Canada. This is not just what I do in Nigeria. I equally do it in Canada. I'm a Canadian and Nigerian citizen.

"I was born a Nigerian. I'm from Ebenebe. I schooled in my village before travelling overseas. So, I know what you are passing through. If not education, I wouldn't be here today. My intention is to see you all becoming great people in life," he added, advising the teachers to invest time and other resources inculcating good virtues and morality into the pupils for academic excellence and self reliance.

Astonished over the projects, the Traditional Ruler of Awba-Ofemili, HRM Igwe Ezekwesili Maduaguna and his cabinet, including the town's union, women, parents, pupils and teachers welcomed the august visitor with pomp's and pageantry, on April 2nd.

Igwe Maduaguna and the community President General, Hon. Chinedu Moubene, elated over the developments, described Honourable Okennah as a true citizen, ambassador of Awka North LGA, and humanitarian without boundary, urging him not to relent in whipping the tears of the people.

The General manager of the Central Primary School, Rev. Samuel Asaa, the Head-Teacher, Mrs Adaugo Chidimma and a primary 2 pupil, Miss Ify Okoye described Okennah as their saviour, assuring optimum utilisation of the edifice for effective and improved teaching and learning.

True to their talks, Okennah is enriching lives across the ten communities of Awka North LGA. As the President, Mother Sussan Charity Foundation, he had at Ebenebe 2025 farming cultural celebration, Egwu Arusi held last month, promoted the community's garri, while unveiling a 3 year farm credit facility initiative geared towards encouraging all the ten communities in the Council Area to sustain agriculture. In order words, his humanitarian acts are beyond Awka North.

Returning to his hometown, Ebenebe, Honourable Okennah drove to his alma mater, Community Secondary School (CSSE) on a surprise visit, same April 2nd. He was welcomed by the students and teachers, who had become acquainted with him because he always visit to encourage them. However, he came this time with surprise packages; two Apple palmtop and several packets of Canadian produced ballpoint pens (biro).

The NUJ leadership was conscripted to conduct an impromptu quiz competition among the six best students of the school; each representing Senior Classes 1-3 and Junior Classes 1-3. The lucky winners, Master Chukwuka Great Chukwuka of SSS1 and Miss Eziechine Mercy of JSS2 received Apple palmtop each, other participants got consolation prizes, while the entire students and teachers present received ballpoint pens respectively.

The excited Vice Principal (Admin), CSSE, Mrs. Miriam Ebelechukwu Okafor, commended their benefactor for the kind gifts, which according to her, would inspire them to double efforts in their academic and other endeavours.

Dikemba Ebenebe also informed them of his intention to subscribe data for the students for optimum use of the tablets, noting that they contain electronic books and other resources useful for effective teaching and learning, research and development.

"Education is the key, and all you need to advance your career in life. It will take you to the best places you wish to go to. But it calls for self discipline, respect and humility. You must be willing to learn, listen to your teachers, work hard and you will excel in life," he further maintained.

Driving out of the CSSE, Honourable Okennah corporal work of mercy hit at Uwana Primary School (UPS) Ebenebe whose marking or whiteboards need urgent replacements. Okennah, who entertained the pupils with stomach infrastructure, promised to replace all the boards and other academic materials, including renovation of their dilapidated toilet and other infrastructural projects.

Overwhelmed with joy, the Head-Teacher, Uwana Primary School, Mrs Evelyn Okafor and her pupils prayed God to keep and prosper Honourable Okennah to enrich more lives at home and overseas.

Returning home, the Traditional Ruler of Ebenebe, Igwe Christopher Emeka Nnaegbuna and cabinet members welcomed Dikemba Ebenebe and the NUJ executive. Igah II, who spoke passionately of Honourable Oliver Okennah, commended him for living an impactful life even as he urged parents to train their children in a responsible manner so they could become useful to society in future.

Igwe's speech was apt because proper home training is among the factors propelling Okennah to leave indelible marks everywhere he goes as a humanitarian per excellence. No wonder he is an executive member in most of the reputable associations he belongs, especially those involving Anambra, Igbo and Nigeria in Canada.

This could be among the factors, Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu's led administration found him worthy of selection and bestowed him with the NUJ most innovative entrepreneur of the year 2024 even in absentia.

NUJ Award
The State Chairman, NUJ, Anambra State Council, Comrade Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, had explained that the award was competitive and abhors all kinds of monetary inducements. Okennah came top according to votes from all the eligible stakeholders even when they don't know him in person. His curriculum vitae stood him out!

He commended Honourable Okennah over the various developmental projects embarked on across Awka North LGA and urged him to sustain the tempo.

"They are massive. NUJ did not chose you as the most innovative entrepreneur in 2024 for nothing. You have proven to be a true son of Awka North, great ambassador of Anambra State and Nigeria generally. I'm charging the teachers, parents and communities to guide these infrastructural projects jealously.

"To students, I want you to know that there is time for everything. Kindly avoid seeking sweet things for now. You must be studious, work hard and sky will be your starting points tomorrow. If you want to further your education, kindly lay the good foundation now by studying to show yourself approve.

"If you want to go into business, apprentice or skilled work, plan it now. Don't waste time. If you do it well, you will be celebrated tomorrow as a distinguished professional. If you don't do it well, you may fail, and start getting jealous of those who have excelled," he stated.

In a rare show of unity and political maturity by the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, the entire political architecture of Anambra State converged with a single voice as all 21 Local Government Areas rallied behind Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, unanimously endorsing him as the sole candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the forthcoming gubernatorial election.

The APGA convention, held in a charged but peaceful atmosphere, recorded 3,260 accredited delegates, out of which 3,175 cast their votes. Of those, 3,168 were valid, with only four invalid entries—each one of the valid votes going to Soludo, a clean sweep that underscored the confidence reposed in his leadership.

Chief Nwaegbo Uche, chairman of the electoral committee, officially declared Soludo returned as the party’s candidate, citing the unprecedented support across the board. The votes came from every part of the state—Aguata, Anambra East, Anambra West, Anaocha, Awka North, Awka South, Ayamelum, Dunukofia, Ekwusigo, Idemili North, Idemili South, Ihiala, Njikoka, Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Ogbaru, Onitsha North, Onitsha South, Orumba North, Orumba South, and Oyi—all affirming one voice, one vision, and one candidate.

The exercise was transparently conducted under the watchful eyes of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from both the federal and state levels, who monitored the entire process from accreditation to collation, attesting to its orderliness and credibility.

Taking the stage amid thunderous applause, Governor Soludo was visibly humbled. In his acceptance speech, he paid homage to the founding spirit of APGA, describing it as the first registered progressive party in Nigeria, dating back to 2002. “Anambra is APGA, and APGA is Anambra,” he declared, a phrase that drew cheers from thousands gathered.

He spoke of his gratitude to Ndi Anambra, to the clergy, traditional rulers, the over sixty support groups, students, and countless individuals whose voluntary cash donations and constant encouragement had propelled the journey thus far. He acknowledged their testimonies, many describing his administration’s performance as “magical,” yet he reminded everyone that progress must remain a collective mission. “It is only together that Anambra can do better,” he said.

Governor Soludo outlined the core of his administration’s accomplishments—an ambitious but realistic blueprint built around five critical pillars. He cited the recruitment of over 8,115 teachers and public servants from across the country as part of his push to revamp human capital development. He highlighted gains in security and law enforcement, where criminal hideouts had been dismantled and peace gradually restored.

He spoke passionately about the economic transformation ongoing across the state, support for micro and small businesses, and the empowerment of artisans and traders. He reflected on the massive infrastructure development, especially road construction connecting rural and urban centres, and the drive to make Anambra cleaner through aggressive waste management and urban regeneration. Soludo also touched on his strides in digital governance, value system reforms, and efforts to deepen transparency and accountability in the public sector.

He reassured party members and the entire state that the journey was far from over. “We have only scratched the surface,” he said. “I will not let Ndi APGA and Ndi Anambra down. I cannot and will not take this trust for granted.” With conviction and clarity, he declared the goal of winning not just the election but every ward and polling unit, insisting that the vision is to build a future in which no one is left behind.

In an expected but strategic announcement, Soludo reaffirmed Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim as his running mate, stating that their partnership, which had produced visible results, would continue to drive the next chapter of transformation.

As the crowd erupted in renewed chants and applause, it became clear that this was not merely a political event—it was a people’s movement. From every ward and every village, the message rang loud and clear: Anambra has chosen continuity, vision, and leadership. The 21 LGAs had not just cast their votes—they had cast their future.

In a massive show of support, sixty support groups, comprising 120 members under the umbrella of All Soludo Support Groups (ASSG), have endorsed Governor Chukwuma Soludo's bid for a second term.

The groups presented a whopping thirty million naira to the Governor at the International Convention Centre, Awka, to support his re-election campaign.

Governor Soludo, overwhelmed by the gesture, revealed that there is a consensus among community leaders, APGA stakeholders, youths, and students alike, urging him to run for a second term.

He attributed this consensus to the visible developments and projects executed by his administration, which has positively impacted the lives of Anambra residents.

The Governor reiterated his commitment to sustaining the vision of "One State, One People, One Agenda," prioritizing the needs of ndi Anambra and executing projects that have transformed the state. The Governor, thereafter, expressed his profound gratitude to all the support groups as well as their leadership

The Cordinator of the All Soludo Support Group, ASSG, Mr. Chinedu Nwoye, flanked by other conveners, pledged to support the governor in fulfilling his manifesto and vision for the state.

Unanimously, they expressed their profound satisfaction with the sterling achievements of the administration saying that they did not make a mistake by supporting the Governor’s first term in office.

This development comes on the heels of a similar endorsement by Anambra State students, who contributed two million naira to support Governor Soludo's re-election bid. The Soludo Vanguard, a grassroots support group, has also mobilized support for the governor's re-election campaign.

Anambra State students have thrown their weight behind Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s second-term bid, contributing a total of N2 million to support his re-election. The endorsement came as students, under the aegis of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Anambra State chapter, donated sums ranging from N200 to N500 each to raise the amount.

Governor Soludo, overwhelmed by the students' gesture, expressed deep gratitude for their sacrifice, likening it to the widow’s mite. He noted that their financial contribution from their limited pocket money mirrored similar acts of goodwill from artisans and transporters who have voluntarily supported him in appreciation of his administration’s impact.

Recalling a recent experience in Onitsha, Soludo shared how a bus driver handed over his entire day's earnings as a show of gratitude for the governor’s road rehabilitation projects, which have reduced the need for frequent vehicle repairs. He also recounted how, during the last Christmas season, two women—one of them an elderly widow—gifted him baskets of fruits and chicken, expressing joy over improved road infrastructure that now allows them to travel with ease.

Governor Soludo noted that he previously believed modern-day students were largely uninterested in governance. However, their endorsement and financial contribution demonstrated that they recognize and appreciate good governance and wish to see its continuity.

The governor reaffirmed his vision of making Anambra State a preferred destination rather than a departure lounge, ensuring that no resident would feel compelled to leave due to insecurity or lack of opportunities. He promised to heed the students’ call for him to seek re-election, urging them to actively participate in the campaign despite the apparent absence of strong opposition.

Speaking on education, Soludo revealed that the Southeast has the lowest number of applicants for the federal government’s student loan scheme. Upon learning that many students were unaware of the initiative, he pledged to work with student leaders to disseminate the necessary information so they could benefit from the scheme.

He also assured the students that his administration’s journey toward transformation had just begun. He pledged to grant them a subsidized rate at the upcoming Fun City once it becomes operational and noted that ongoing developmental projects are attracting investors, which will, in turn, create more job opportunities for graduates.

As a passionate advocate of education, Soludo reiterated his commitment to its advancement, emphasizing the refurbishment of school facilities and the provision of free education. He acknowledged the financial struggles of students in higher institutions and vowed to engage landlords to reduce accommodation costs. Additionally, he plans to create an environment conducive for investors to build hostels, allowing them to recoup their investments over time.

Looking ahead, the governor promised that once resources permit, free education would be extended to all students in the state. Meanwhile, his administration will commence documentation of Anambra State indigenous students this year to facilitate the provision of bursary awards. Ugochi Ehiahruike has advocated for a more coordinated approach to taxation to enhance efficiency and transparency in revenue generation in Anambra State.

According to Ehiahuruike, this would contribute towards effective tackling of the long-standing issue of weak coordination that had plagued the state's taxation system.

She made the call at one day public policy dialogue on Tax for Service Campaign organised by her organisation in collaboration with the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) under the Tax for Service Project funded by Oxfam Nigeria, an event aimed at brainstorming to improve revenue generation through equitable taxation.

The event attended by civil society organisations (CSOs), market leaders, government and other stakeholders equally sought for complete digitisation of revenue collection system, sustained sensitisation for traders on reforms and programmes and blockage of all existing revenue leakages.

Ehiahruike, who described the Tax for Service campaign as a game changer in the state, explained that the dialogue would help to foster a collaborative environment where stakeholders could share experiences, exchange ideas, and explore ways to sustain gains made so far and scale up the tax for services intervention across the state.

“Internally generated revenue increased from 2.8 billion per month as at March, 2023 to 4.7 billion as at Jan. 2025. Policymakers, civil servants, and community leaders, civil society actors have demonstrated exceptional commitment, dedication, and leadership in driving the intervention.

“We also seek to identify areas for improvement and develop actionable recommendations for policymakers and stakeholders. I am confident that together, we can create a brighter future for Anambra state and its citizens,"she added.

Other stakeholders who spoke at the programme commended the Social and Integral Development Centre (SIDEC) for its efforts in bridging the governance gap in the state, noting that their interventions had not only multiplied the State revenue generation but increased transparency, accountability, and efficiency in tax collection.

Contributing, the Anambra State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Hon. Christian Udechukwu, represented by Mazi Chuka Okeke, hailed the SIDEC for bridging the gap between the government and the citizenry.

"Taxation is not just about tax but about reaching the people with the tax. Government is not just about what you are giving to the people but giving them what they desire. With what SIDEC is doing it is possible for Anambra to apply the tax funds to the needs of the people," he added.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Anambra Internal Revenue Service (AiRS), Dr Greg Ezeilo, represented by Executive Director, Assessment, Mr Ben Okafor, commended SIDEC for increasing advocacy, sensitisation and awareness on tax, which he said increase revenue generation in the State.

"Everybody can see what we are doing.  Every part of Anambra has experienced an explosion in terms of infrastructure development in the state and all are tied to taxes. Last year, Anambra ranked about 13th in terms of internal revenue. But we believe that by the end of this year, Anambra will be among the top five in Nigeria," he said.

In a goodwill message, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Market, Chief Evaristus Uba, represented by Director Market, Mr Francis Iloduba, affirmed the Tax for Service project remarkably contributed to the improved IGR profile of the state.

He said the initiative enables traders to contribute meaningfully to the government's revenue, which in turn provides them with necessary amenities as outlined in their charters of demands.

The Chairman of Onitsha Main Market Association, Chief Innocent Ezeoha, who revealed a significant shift in the market's attitude towards taxation, attributed it to the awareness intervention of SIDEC, noting that they would never stop paying taxes.

To the National Vice President, Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU), Hon. Ikechukwu Ofokansi, the umbrella body of Presidents-General across 179 communities, they were committed towards encouraging the residents and natives of Anambra to pay their taxes for the government to fulfill its duties.

Also, the Chairman Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Anambra State Chapter, Comrade Ugochukwu Okeke, enhanced accountability and transparency in government spending has improved PWDs access to markets in the state and they hoped to see more in future.

However, a tax consultant, Dr David Agu observed that there was a significant number of traders in the state lacking proper awareness of the provisions of the state's tax law, and called for more enlightenment campaign to that effect.

In his presentation on Tax Reform, Mr Ayo Omowu, Programme Manager, Taxation, Environment & Conservation of Nature, Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) encouraged all to support the drive for passage of tax reform bill to address critical challenges in revenue generation, equity, and governance, noting that it is a vital step for sustainable development and economic stability.

Contributing, Prof Uche Nwogwugwu of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka and the National Vice President, Anambra State Association of Town Union (ASATU), Hon. Ikechukwu Offorkansi, urged SIDEC to sustain their project on tax sensitisation to increase trust and friendship between government and the citizens.

Earlier, the Programme Manager, Taxation, Environment and Conservative Nature, CISLAC, Mr Ayo Omowu urged the National Assembly to expedite action towards passage of Tax Reform bill with a view to improving revenue generation and distribution.

Omowu, who argued that passage of tax reform bills would contribute towards attaining sustainable development and economic stability, also sought improved collaboration between government, private sector and civil Society to promote tax compliance and transparency.

Highpoints of the event was presentation of awards to 12 individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment, dedication, and leadership in driving the intervention forward.

Anambra State residents under the auspices of Electricity Consumers Right Network (ECRN) have lamented over exploitation by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) through erratic billing, inadequate power supply and poor customer service.

The Network, in a communique issued at end of their meeting in Awka, Anambra State Capital, said the EEDC's actions amount to inflicting the residents with untold hardships and pain.

The communique signed by the National Coordinator, ECRN, Comrade Osita Obi and the Secretary, Comrade Emeka Ral, blamed this on monopoly on power supply and demanded for immediate unbundling of the EEDC to promote competition, efficiency, and reliability in power supply.

"The lack of competition in the power supply sector has led to inefficiencies, unreliable services, and exploitation of consumers. The EEDC's monopoly on power supply has resulted in untold hardships for consumers, including erratic billing, inadequate supply, and poor customer service.

"The manufacture of electricity meters by EEDC is a clear conflict of interest, allowing the company to be a judge in its own cause. The establishment of independent power plants by the state government to provide alternative sources of power and reduce reliance on the EEDC," they stated.

They also called for enactment of legislation to regulate electricity billing and ensure transparency and accountability in the power supply sector, and cessation of EEDC's meter manufacturing activities to prevent conflicts of interest.

"Consumers must rise up and assert their rights, demanding better services, transparency, and accountability from the power supply companies. We also call on the relevant authorities, including the Anambra State Government, the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), and the Federal Government, to take immediate action to address these demands," they added.

The Youth-friendly Mayor of Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon. Stanley Nkwoka (Ochendo Idemili) has appointed a renowned grassroots mobilizer cum veteran journalist, Hon. Community leader , Chief Tony Onyeagolu has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for coming up with Agunechemba security outfit which is aimed at ensuring safety of lives and property across the state.

Chief Onyeagolu called on the Agunechemba security outfit to remain steadfast in their approach to community security and justice and not to be distracted by those who have continued to put the state in bad light.

He stated this while responding to the recent publication regarding the detention of Mr Onyemazu Ngini,by Agunechemba security outfit over his suspected involvement in land grabbing and running a criminal team using Youth leader as a cover.

Chief Onyeagolu noted that It is crucial to clarify his position and the reasons for his involvement in the matter, as allegations have surfaced against both himself and the Agunechemba operatives by persons rooting for the release of Ngini without trial.

According to the Former PG, he is fully aware of the grave implications that accompany the accusations being levelled against Mr Ngini.

" I vehemently assert that the focus should remain on the legitimate investigative efforts addressing the serious crimes allegedly perpetrated by Mr. Ngini, rather than becoming embroiled in a diversion centered around my previous position and conduct. It has been implicitly suggested that my past as a former President General has somehow influenced the narrative surrounding this incident.

" However, let it be clear: my past decisions, which were overseen by the authorities, were made in the interest of maintaining order and community safety. "

Chief Onyeagolu noted that the allegations against Mr Ngini, including alleged land theft and involvement with armed individuals, are not to be dismissed lightly, as they merit thorough investigation.

He therefore commended Chief Ken Emeakayi, leader of the Agunechemba operatives for his dedication towards ensuring the safety of various communities and for addressing the concerns of rising insecurity across the state.

" It is vital that we do not let personal grievances or past political rivalries cloud our judgment regarding matters of public safety and justice.The community deserves transparency and accountability."

The Community leader encouraged the family and representatives of Mr Ngini to present concrete evidence that counters the claims made against him rather than make unfounded claims and allegations aimed at diverting attention.

According to him, " Mere assertions of his character do not absolve him from scrutiny. The rule of law must be upheld, and if any party is found to be engaging in wrongful conduct or is protected by influential networks, it is the duty of the law to act accordingly."

Chief Onyeagolu claimed that the suspect , Onyemazi Ngini had been declared wanted by the Nigerian Police for various criminal activities including involvement in kidnappings and shooting at Police officers from Zone 13, IRT, Anti Cult who made several attempts to get him arrested.

He noted that Agunechemba security outfit did a very nice job by apprehending the suspect and must do every investigation to unravel all his activities before charging him to court or hand him over to the Inspector General of Police for the law to take its course.

According to Chief Onyeagolu, "Mr Ngini is not the only person that have been invited or detained by the new security outfit as they work with concrete evidence and information before embarking on such arrest.

" if Agunechemba invites you, you go there and clear yourself. If they feel you are not telling the truth based on facts and investigation they have done, then it does not call for a legal practitioner to start calling names and making allegations that are baseless."

Chief Onyeagolu called on Governor Charles Soludo, to look beyond the distractions and focus on the real issues at hand within Isuaniocha including acting on the white paper submitted by a Panel of enquiry set up in the past.

" The safety of our community necessitates attention to the pressing concerns of crime and the integration of community-led security initiatives, which should not be hindered by unfounded personal accusations," he added.



The former President General of Isuaniocha therefore called on all to stand united against crime and ensure that the community thrives in peace and harmony.

Feelers coming from APC National Secretariat, Abuja suggest that all arrangements have been concluded to ensure that Hon Edozie Madu emerges the APC Flag bearer for November 8 Anambra Governorship Election.

A highly placed Official at the National Office who acknowledged that the directive “came from above” says the choice of Edozie Madu may not be unconnected with the fact that out of the six aspirants, he is the only one who has remained loyal to the party over the years and supported President Tinubu during the 2023 Presidential Elections.

His support for the President also cost him dearly as he was attacked on the eve of the election by unknown gunmen who burnt down his house in his village Owerre-Ezukala when he managed to escape and also killed a Police Officer assigned to him.

He is said to be the only prominent member of the APC from Anambra who braved it to campaign for the President in the 2023 Presidential election.

Other permutations seem to also be in favour of Hon Edozie Madu as the party has also decided to support a candidate from Anambra South Senatorial Zone.

The Party has also decided to move away from Aguata which is the Local Government Area of the Incumbent Governor Professor Soludo, Choosing Edozie Madu who is from Owerre-Ezukalla in Orumba South with Strong support base from Orumba North.

During the party’s membership revalidation/registration excercise held last week, while other aspirants were fighting each other openly and even in the party’s WhatsApp groups , with many aspirant posting receipts of payments made for party members, Edozie Madu was said to have quietly bankrolled the membership revalidation/registration of APC members in the 326 wards with hundreds of millions.

He is said to have also purchased delegate forms for over 2,000 members for the party’s delegate congress held last 2 Saturdays.

We were reliably informed that most of the delegates he funded emerged victorious from that excercise. The party is expected to release the list of the 1,630 delegates for the party primary in a few days time.

Baring any last minute surprises, April 5th APC Primaries will be a date in history for Edozie Madu as contacts close to him disclosed that he is already preparing his acceptance speech ahead of the D-day.

 The women wing of Enugwu-Ukwu Community Development Union (ECDU), Lagos Branch has donated a newly renovated and refurbished laboratory building to Ide Secondary School, Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area (LGA), Anambra State.

The building designated for Physics and Chemistry practical and other academic purposes got dilapidated for about six years and a social media viral video originated by a concerned old student attracted the ECDU Women Wing to come for their rescue.

The women, most of whom graduated from the school when it was known as Girls Secondary School, mobilised about N6m through individuals contributions, donations and supports from husbands, sons, friends and well wishers, including Mrs Olununmi Kuku, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Airport Authority, Lagos.

The President, ECDU Women Wing, Dr Felicia Agubata, while handing over the building to the Traditional Ruler of Enugwu-Ukwu, Igwe Ralph Obumneme Ekpe, explained that the renovation work carried out in the building included replacing broken walls and bricks, plastering, reroofing, painting, furniture and others.

Agubata tasked the school authority and other stakeholders within the school environment on taking ownership of the building through quality maintenance, provision of security personnel  and effective utilisation of the edifice.

The President, who graduated from the school in 1998 as among the first set of senior students of the Girls Secondary, recalled that the citadel of learning molded her into becoming a beacon of excellence under the tutelage of the then Principal, late Emmanuel Ozumba.

She also commended all the women and other stakeholders for their supports towards realisation of the dream even as she called on other individuals, philanthropists and old students to thinker out actions and resources for development of the school  in various ways.

 “ Our slogan is Enugwu-Ukwu first, so with that we were able raise about N6m, to carried out the renovation work which included replacing broken walls and bricks, plastering, reroofing, painting, furniture and others,” Agubata added.

 She said that the union recorded success by returning the institution to its former glory of excellence whose lack for some years forced many science students to seek admissions  elsewhere denying the school egg heads to be associated with the school.

Commissioning the project, the Traditional Ruler of Enugwu-Ukwu, Igwe Raph Ekpe, represented by the Deputy Traditional Prime Minister, Chief Clement Nwafor, describing it as thinking “Enugwu-Ukwu First” adding that investing into infrastructural development would go along way in ameliorating the suffering of students over lack of science laboratory.

Igwe Ekpe used the occasion to enjoin other branches of ECDU across the country and in diaspora to emulate the giant steps of Lagos branch.

Also speaking, the President, Enugwu-Ukwu Community Development Union (ECDU), Lagos Branch, Mr Sopulu Nwakaeze, called on leadership of ECDU from other branches to support their wives and daughters to excel in their chosen careers and contributeu resources towards building a happy home and Community.

He also assured the school authority that efforts would be made towards rebuilding of examination hall that was burnt to enable the student take their external examinations in a educational friendly environment.

Speaking in an interview, the Principal, Ide Secondary School, Enugwu-Ukwu, Mrs Christiana Obidindu, described the kind gesture as a step in right direction, noting that it would assist them in recording more successes in their academic endeavours.

Obidindu, who commended the donors, government and other philanthropists for supporting the school with infrastructure and equipment for academic excellence, however, made case for provisions of perimeter fencing and security personnel so as to secure the institution from incessant miscreants attacks who usually make away with the school properties.

Contributing, the Chairman, Adagbe Avomimi, where the school is sited, Mr Ejike Onuorah, said that the donors have ignited greater will of development in educational sector of the community and assured that the village will take ownership of the building.

Onuorah who was represented by Mr Nnaemeka Okeke in company of some of the members of the village executive promised to do their best to ensure that activities of the miscreants who carts away the school property is checked.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and Nigeria Civil Society Situationroom have called on the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun to as a matter of urgency update the public on outcome of their investigation and prosecution of perpetrators of attacks against journalists and observers during the 2023 General elections.

The Forth Estate of the realm and partners made the call at situation room advocacy meeting held at Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory and organised by the Nigeria Civil Society Situationroom in collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) with support of the United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

The Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room and NUJ had at the programme also reaffirmed their commitment to working collectively to promote credible, transparent, and accountable elections and called on other stakeholders to uphold democratic principles and ensure the integrity of elections in Nigeria.

The meeting attended by journalists and CSOs across the country, equally regretted that two years have gone yet the police which is the lead agency in security of the country has not reveal the outcome of their investigation and prosecution with regards to the violence against journalists and observers at 2023 general election even as international and reputable organisations documented them accordingly.

"The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) which is the lead agency in election security in Nigeria should provide a public update on their investigation and prosecution of perpetrators of attacks against journalists and observers during the 2023 General elections. According to the Press Attack Tracker of the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID), 89 journalists were attacked in the 2023 General Elections in the country," they stated in a communique issued at end of the meeting.

They further argued that security of lives and property of the citizenry, including journalists and observers during election was necessary to record a peaceful, free, fair and credible election.

The group also urged the Police to eliminate militarisation of elections in Nigeria so that citizens would be bold and free to come out en masse and exercise their franchise without fear or favour, while adding that protection of journalists covering elections would guarantee press freedom in line with democratic principles.

"The meeting also called for a greater collaboration between the security agencies and the media to prevent attack, harassment and intimidation of journalists on civic duties," they added.

On political parties, the NUJ Situationroom urged politicians and their parties to imbibe internal party democracy, including keeping a proper and standard register of members, adhering to extant laws on political and campaign financing, and upholding the rule of law in their operations and practices.

"Political parties must fulfil their responsibility as required by law to deploy party agents to all levels of election in which they are involved. Political parties and candidates must commit to issue-based campaigns and refrain from skipping public debates before elections," they added.

Earlier at the meeting, the Convener, Nigeria Civil Society Situationroom, Dr YZ Ya'u stressed that organising a credible poll demands effective collaborations to hold the government accountable towards constituting an unbiased electoral umpire and committing to the relevant electoral laws, guidelines and other processes.

"We can also start by advocating for appointment of credible electoral officers as tenures of the National Chairman of INEC and some officers of the commission end this year. We must use our platforms to interrogate the system and ensure that credible people emerge and also organise a credible election. We must also sensitise the populace to participate actively and rightly," he noted.

Ya'u also urged the media and CSOs to continuously highlight and discuss the key issues in the 2023 electoral acts requiring amendments with a view to get the National Assembly to respond accordingly.

Also speaking, the National President, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahya, while assuring that the partnership had started and would continue, maintained that the media would not hesitate in playing their critical role as enshrined in relevant sections of the 1999 constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria as amended.

To achieve this, Yahya added that the NUJ under his leadership would work towards empowering the forth estate of the realm with relevant knowledge and skills needed to perform their responsibilities through training and retraining, as well as checkmate the issues of news commercialisation and other unethical practices.

Contributing, a development consultant, Agianpe Onyema and Bukola Idowu of Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI) while highlighting some key issues in the 2023 electoral act, urged the media and CSOs to be focused and not to wait till election time before interrogating the electoral system.

Speaking in a panel discussion, the National Secretary, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Achike Chude, Safiya Bichi of Yiaga Africa, and a development expert, Mr Austin Aigbe harped on the need for application of technology, fact-checking, investigative journalism and citizen observers in electoral monitoring and reporting to increase credibility of electoral process.

Anambra notable community leader, Barr Nonso Madu, of Owerre-Ezukala Community in Orumba South Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra have commended the gallant efforts of Anambra Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo in restoring the safety of lives and properties of citizens in the area.

Mr Nonso Madu, a Prominent community leader in the council area made the commendation while speaking with some journalists shortly after his courtesy visit to the governor in Awka on Friday.


Madu disclosed that he paid a courtesy visit to the governor to personally extoled the giant strides and extraordinary achievements of the governor in all sectors of the state economy especially security.

He assured the governor of the willingness of the people of Owerre- Ezukala town to assist the government to flush out the criminal elements that have set up crime camps in the bushes in the community.

“As a concerned native of Owerre-Ezukala, I will gather other worthy sons and daughters of the town to promote the government good intentions for the state, more so, all communities in Orumba South as a whole.

“I personally visited the state to thank the governor for his continued efforts to improve the security of lives and property in Anambra, making it possible for investors business to thrive in the State.


“The recent on the spot visit to assess the improving security situation in Owerre- Ezukala, Ogbunka and Umunze by the governor, moved me so much to take a decision to be part of safety restoration history in the state,”he said.

Madu appealed to the governor not to relent or be distracted in delivering his administration democratic aims to Anambra public.

Madu urged local investors from the state to Think Home and join hands with the governor to restore the lost glory of the state and create jobs for the teaming unemployed youths of the state and increase the internally generated revenue of the state for more development .

Anambra State governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has commended the Nigerian Army for its unwavering commitment to the fight against insecurity.

Governor Soludo gave the commendation while receiving the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Thomas Olatoye and his entourage, at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia.

The governor lauded the military’s role in reclaiming eight local government areas previously overrun by non-state actors when he assumed office. He emphasized that his administration is advancing to the next phase of security reforms with the newly enacted Homeland Security Laws.

"The security of the people is our utmost priority," Governor Soludo stated. "We recognize the vital role of the military in maintaining peace and stability and deeply appreciate their dedication."

Reaffirming the state’s commitment to strengthening security partnerships, he pledged continued collaboration with the Nigerian Army to tackle crime and protect communities.

In his speech, Major General Olatoye described the visit as an operational assessment of the division’s readiness and strategic initiatives. He praised Governor Soludo’s decisive actions on security.

As highlighted by veteran journalist and university don, Tunde Olusunle, in his insightful analysis, revisited Governor Soludo's appointment of Joachim Achor from Abia State and Adebayo Ojeyinka from Osun State as Permanent Secretaries in Anambra's Civil Service speaks volumes about his commitment to merit-based leadership. This is particularly relevant in today's global context, where Nigerian talents are making remarkable strides internationally, as evidenced by the recent recognition of six Nigerian professionals by the U.S. President for their exceptional contributions to science and engineering.

What makes Governor Soludo's leadership style particularly noteworthy is its timing. In a period when some political leaders still cling to divisive rhetoric and ethnic considerations, his inclusive governance model offers a practical template for national integration. His administration proves that state boundaries need not be barriers to talent acquisition and deployment in public service.

More startling revelations have emerged about the stay of the Vice Chairman of Dubai Estate Mr. Benjamin Ezenma otherwise known as Big Ben at a hotel close to Udoka estate before he was  abducted on November  12, 2024 in Awka, Anambra state capital.


Sources in the social media reported that Mr. Benjamin Ezenma was kidnapped in front of the hotel which is along Enugu-Onitsha Expressway where he lodged before the incident. 

 

However, the Manager of the hotel, in reaction, denied the allegation that Big Ben was kidnapped in front or near the hotel premises.


The Manager who refused to disclose his name for security reasons, after profiling the  newsmen that visited the hotel on Monday  said that Mr. Ezenma may have been waylaid by his abductors and taken away as he drove out of the hotel premises.


He said that Mr.Ezenma operated from the hotel for three weeks before he was kidnapped on that fateful day. 

He stated that from the Close Circuit Television camera (CCTV) footage of the hotel, it was discovered that Mr. Ezenma was waylaid and kidnapped after he had left the hotel premises. 


He further states that he (hotel manager) was invited for questioning by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) after the State Director of DSS and his men had stormed the complex for discreet investigations.


Also, he said that the girlfriend of the abducted victim whose name was not mentioned was later invited by the DSS for interrogation and may have stayed in the facility of the security agents for few days before she was released. 


"Actually I know the man in person, he was here for over three weeks. He operated from here (the hotel). Going by the CCTV footage of the cameras, it was discovered that his abductors waylaid him after he left the hotel premises.


"We have encountered a lot of people who have come for enquiries. The DSS, his friends and associates were here.His brother even came to enquire from us about his whereabout.


"The DSS came and later invited me to their office for further questioning; his girlfriend was also invited by the DSS and we are aware that the girlfriend spent more time with him during his three weeks stay with us here.


"The day the incident took place, we were not informed about his movement that fateful evening. We thought that he went out to pick something across the road,," The Manager noted.

It would be recalled that Mr. Benjamin Ezenma, Vice Chairman of Durbai Estate was kidnapped on  November 12, 2024, by yet to be identified kidnappers.

An Awka, Anambra State Activist, Comrade Osita Obi has urged the Spiritual Director, Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, Uke, Anambra State, Rev. Fr Emmanuel Obimma popularly known as Ebube Mounso, to tender an apology to governor Chukwuma Soludo.

Ebube Mounso had in a media report called Anambra State governor a reprobate man, adding that he was happy when people were killed or kidnapped.

But Obi who had in an interview earlier dismissed the report and urged him to quickly tender an apology within three weeks or he would protest to his adoration centre.

Obi, in a press statement in Awka after the three days lapsed, argued that should Ebube Muonso refuses to tender an apology he would no longer be considered as speaking under the influence of Holy Spirit.

Himself also tendered an apology for saying he would lead protest to the adoration centre, noting that it was mistake and he would never do that but ready to remind him the need to tender an apology.

According to him, Ebube Muonso should as a matter of a true man of God tender an apology and move on or he would leave him to God to judge because a man of God will always shun pride and pleasure.

He also hailed the governor for launching a security outfit, Agụ echemba and ụdọ ga Achị, describing it as good step to clear insecurity in Anambra State.

Obi observed that governor Soludo had provided several infrastructural development, including roads, new government house and other projects.

The Activist, while recalling new road projects constructed at Awka and other parts of the State, especially Okpoko, Ogbaru, Awka North, and free education policy, he would carry out more projects if re-elected.

"The governor’s dedication to Anambra’s development speaks volumes. It would be more impactful if aspirants joined forces with him rather than competing. Stepdown for Soludo and support his government to do more works for Anambra.

" I took personal project tour to see what he is doing by myself. I know how Awka was when I returned to Awka. But today Awka has a different outlook. Go to Onitsha, Ekwulọbịa and other parts of Anambra. Everything has changed. Let us give him a chance to complete good projects he has started," he noted.

African Action Congress (AAC), on Wednesday, called on Inspector-General of Police, IGP kayode Egbetokun and the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono Itam to stop officers from extorting motorists plying the State.

According to the party, the police and other law enforcement agents usually stationed at checkpoints have turned Anambra State and the rest of South East geopolitical zone to cash cow while insecurity kept on ravaging the entire zone.

The State Chairperson of AAC, Comrade Chioma Ifemeludike, who raised this concern at a press conference in Awka, Anambra State capital, urged the relevant authorities to checkmate the anomaly and bring lasting peace to the zone.

According to Ifemeludike, this called for the officers to be called to order, while their welfare should be improved upon as better salaries and insensitive would make them to stop such illegalities.

"It is dangerous and reckless to hand guns to police officers whose basic and social
requirements are not well taken care of leaving citizens at their mercy. Anambra State has become a cash cow to the police. They do it boldly and no one is holding them accountable. They even give out changes to the motorists without shame.

"Anambra State must join hands to pressure the government to do the right thing at the right time. We must start holding them accountable so they can do the right thing now. Our youth have been battered. We must sit up and demand for the police and the Government to deliver on their mandate," she lamented.

The party further called on governor Chukwuma Soludo to wake up to address the insecurity ravaging the State, lamenting that if allowed to continue, socioeconomic development and others would be impeded because nothing thrives in atmosphere of chaos.

She said the party would no longer keep quiet while the citizens lives were wasted for nothing, adding that they would mobilise their members and other citizenry to launch social media campaigns geared towards mobilising the populace to take ownership of the security and secure Anambra State from crimes and criminalities.

"These men of the underworld have caused mayhem, pain and suffering to the
physical, financial and emotional well-being of the good, hardworking and law abiding citizens of the state. This menace is suffocating and almost crippling business activities in the state.

"Anambra State known as the light of the nation seems to be struggling with darkness of insecurity and fear of the unknown terror gangs. It has gotten so bad that people now avoid to travel or disguise when they are visiting homes. This is totally unacceptable and we hold the government of Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo responsible as the chief Executive in the state whose major duty is to secure lives.

"We urge governor Soludo to take charge and be proactive with matters that affect security of lives in the state as this is the bedrock of commercial activities, growth and development in our dear state. The mental and psychological state of Anambra populace is our utmost interest and we will do anything and everything in our possible best to make sure our people are safe and sound.

"We will defend our ancestral lands against intruders. We will not run away from unscrupulous elements both the official and unofficial, the masked and unmasked, the ones on uniform and the ones running criminal network. We warn that we will use every tool available to us.

"The African Action Congress, Anambra state chapter highlights the major issues of insecurity in Anambra state right after the state Governor declared a state of
emergency which seems like a mere political statement or lip service due to
government's inability to effect any obvious change in securing lives of Ndi Anambra which is their utmost responsibility.

"In recent times, villages and communities in Anambra State have been ransacked and invaded by what we know today as unknown gun men, faceless men who have terrorised, oppressed, kidnapped in most cases murdered innocent citizens in cold. The once bubbling state and
nightlife environment where commuters and visitors travelled at anytime of the day
without any fear especially during the festive seasons have now come to an abrupt end," she lamented.

The leading All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship aspirant for Anambra State 2025 poll, Sir Paul Chukwuma has condemned the kidnapping of two Reverend sisters, wondering why governor Chukwuma Soludo was yet to rise against insecurity in the State.

Two Reverend sisters of Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM), Onitsha, Sr Vincentia Maria Nwankwo and Sr Grace Mariette Okoli were kidnapped at Ogboji, Ọrumba North Local Government Area while returning from a meeting on January 8.

Chukwuma, while reacting to the nuns abduction, wondered if governor Chukwuma Soludo's administration had become clueless and shameless that it could not address the insecurity ravaging the State.

The APC chieftain and educationist also expressed displeasure that the State government was yet to react to the incident, which according to him, had gone from bad to worst since religious leaders without wealth were equally been abducted or killed at will.

Anambra State had been under a siege with many rich and poor men, including clergymen, religious women and lawmakers been in kidnap den for weeks and months, even as some even died on the hands of their abductors.

He, therefore, challenged the governor to mobilise the security apparatus to safeguard the lives and properties of the citizenry he swore to protect at all cost as number one citizen of Anambra State.

Chukwuma also urged the governor to find ways of visiting the security troubled areas in Anambra South to provide succour to the citizens who currently live under fear and Grace.

The palace of Obi Enugwu Umuonyia, HRM, Igwe Peter Nebechukwu Ezeamama, Onyia Di Ike was filled to capacity as he celebrated his 7th Ofalla festival and his 22nd year on the throne amidst pomp and pageantry.

The event which attracted dignitaries from all walks of life, including top government functionaries traditional rulers, captains of industry, businessmen and women, Cabinet Chiefs, Umu Ada Enugwu Umuonyia, delegates from Akokwa clan, and a host of others too numerous to mention.

In his address from the throne, Igwe Ezeamama expressed gratitude to the State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR for developing the State across all sectors, and achieving remarkable milestones in just two years.

"Your commitment to education is evident in your recruitment of over 8,000 teachers and the provision of free education to pupils and secondary school students in the State regardless of their state of origin is a rare feat in our nation today ", Igwe Ezeamama observed.

Continuing, the Royal Father of Enugwu Umuonyia also commended the State Governor for his many people oriented projects in the State, including the employment of over 3,000 healthcare workers and renovating 375 healthcare facilities across the State, while appreciating the construction of the Ezira-Umuomaku-Enugwu Umuonyia -Achina Road which cuts across the agrarian parts of Orumba South Council Area.

He however, appealed for the less than 7 kilometres Umuchu-Achina-Enugwu Umuonyia -Agbudu-Onneh road that leads to the Peter University in Achina/Onneh to be included in his ongoing road project plans.

While acknowledging the challenges of insecurity and hardship in the society, Igwe Ezeamama stressed the need for the people to eschew crime and criminality by engaging in meaningful activities, and embrace agriculture which he said is a lucrative source of income and called on the good people of Enugwu Umuonyia to love one another and harmoniously develop their community.

Earlier in the Holy Mass to herald the Ofala festival, Rev. Fr. Patrick Okeke of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Enugwu Umuonyia stated that love is a uniting force and the Key to a happy family, adding that selfishness undermines community progress, while love which he said is manifested in sacrifice builds the family, community and the Church.

In their goodwill messages, the Mayor of Aguata Local Government Area, Prince Dr. Chibueze Oforbike, the younger brother to Igwe Ezeamama, Prince Rommy Ezeamama, and the Member representing Ogbaru 1 in the State House of Assembly, Hon Noble Igwe extolled Igwe Ezeamama for his visionary leadership in Enugwu Umuonyia which they said is setting a standard for generations to come, and wished him many more years on the throne.

On her part, the wife of Igwe Ezeamama, Lolo Dr. Ifeyinwa Ezeamama (Ocheze) congratulated her husband, Igwe P. N. Ezeamama for marking his 7th Ofalla festival and his 22nd year on the throne, while praising God for his divine mercies on their family and the entire people of Enugwu Umuonyia over the years

In a vote of thanks, the President General, Enugwu Umuonyia Development Union, Mr. Izundu Azubuike commended Igwe Ezeamama for his transformational leadership which has earned him the love of all his subjects, and prayed God to grant him good health and long life.

The event featured conferment of chieftaincy titles to deserving individuals, Royal dance by Igwe Ezeamama, payment of homages, masquerade displays and cultural dances.

Nnokwa community in Idemili South Local Government Area, Anambra State is set to be on the news again with cultural revival, entertainment hub and educational stability.

This would be courtesy of Nnokwa United Brothers (NUB), a social club founded sometimes in 2020 by like-minded youth whose interest was to unite all the males natives of Nnokwa with good characters and passion to provide humanitarian services to others, while projecting the good image and rich cultural values of their motherland.

The President, Nnokwa United Brothers, Chief Ikechukwu Obi, who revealed this at their 5th years anniversary cum installation of two Patrons and mayor held at Eziafakaego garden and resort, Nnokwa, said that NUB plans to provide educational supports to public schools and assist indigent students.

Obi also added that they would sponsor community football match, as well as provide recreational facilities in the community in the next five years with a view to harvests talents, boost entertainment and economic activities especially in Christmas and New Year season.

He commended members of the club for their support, which according to him, makes it possible for them to provide succour to the less privileged every Yuletide aside celebrating their get-together.

Also speaking, the Secretary General, Nnokwa United Brothers, Ọzọ Onyekachukwu Igwe, explained that they had through the club contributed immensely through promotion of value orientation, development and growth of Nnokwa.

According to him, NUB would also sponsor Nnokwa day, a programme geared towards showcasing their rich culture to the world, while encouraging mass returns and visitation by persons from all over the world.
