Former leader of the Niger Delta People’s Salvation and Volunteer Force (NDSVF) Alhaji Mujahid Asari-Dokubo has said many people are angry with President Goodluck Jonathan’s leadership style. He said Jonathan would have enjoyed an easy ride back to Aso Rock if he had done things properly. Asari-Dokubo spoke yesterday at Bungavilla Hotel, Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, while addressing students of King Amachree African University, Cotonou, Benin Republic on the need for violence-free elections. He accused Jonathan of squandering his political goodwill, which, he said, made him to tolerate his enemies instead of jailing them. He described the recent visit by Jonathan to former President Olusegun Obasanjo as an embarrassment to the office of the President. “You don’t naked the office of the President, but Jonathan has done that by not dealing decisively with his enemies. For instance, he has no business going to Abeokuta to see Obasanjo, he has squandered the political goodwill he has.” “A lot of our people especially in Niger Delta are angry with Jonathan but they have no option than to vote for him because what is coming is worst than him. Goodluck Jonathan would have enjoyed an easy ride if he had done things strictly the way the people want it to be.” On insecurity, Asari-Dokubo said Jonathan would not make any progress because those managing the security are against the president. He alleged that top military officers in collaboration with some politicians in the North are the one frustrating the military victory over insurgency and by extension frustrating the government of Jonathan. “The Vice-President is a Fulani man, Inspector-General of Police is a Gambari man, National Security Adviser is a Gambari man and Defence Minister is a Gambari man. The security arms are in the hands of those who are fighting him. How do you think he can do better in this area? “The same people who are fighting him are the one he allows to manage security? It is like asking the rat to look after the fish. Though, we are warning the BokoHaram not to harm our people because if they do, we will tell Nigeria that we have more sophisticated guns that the ones we submitted.” http://thenationonlineng.net/new/asari-condemns-jonathans-style/ |
Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Kingsley Kuku, has called on the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari, not to evade the forthcoming 2015 presidential debate as he had done in previous elections. Kuku who was the guest speaker at the annual lecture of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Ondo State chapter, on Thursday, said the APC presidential candidate had continued to evade presidential debates where he would have had the opportunity of answering many questions in the minds of Nigerians. He said Buhari’s claims of the knowledge of how to fix the economy were not based on any realistic idea but on wishful thinking. He said, “General Buhari has contested election three times for the presidency. In all the elections he has refused to attend presidential debates. Let us demand that he must attend presidential debate this time.” He also said that those packaging his campaigns should prepare him for the debate so that Nigerians could ask him questions about the economy. “He said when he becomes President he would stabilize the oil price, is he OPEC? We will not vote for Nigerian president that will be disgracing the country,” Kuku said. He said, “Nigerians must demand for debate. President Goodluck Jonathan must be ready for debate, General Buhari must be ready for debate. And that debate must give access to Nigerians to ask questions on the economy and politics of the country.” Kuku also noted that the government of President Jonathan had reduced corruption and supported the anti-corruption agency in their fight against corruption in the country. While blaming the judiciary for frustrating the efforts of the EFCC and ICPC, Kuku noted that Jonathan’s opponents also had traces of corruption while they were in office. http://www.punchng.com/news/dont-shun-presidential-debate-kuku-advises-buhari/ |

All is set for a rousing welcome for President Goodluck Jonathan as his campaign train rolls into Abia State on Friday in continuation of his quest for a re-election. Jonathan is expected to flag off not only his presidential campaign in Abia but also the governorship campaign of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. Addressing journalists yesterday on the preparations for the presidential campaign rally, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Chief Anthony Agbazuere, said Abia was set to give Mr. President the best rally so far. “This is going to be the mother of all rallies given that Mr. President is our in-law and has performed very well,” he said, adding, “Abia is happy with him.” Agbazuere noted that Jonathan has become the most distracted president yet he has performed beyond expectation and Nigerians should show appreciation to a leader who has demonstrated enough commitment to develop the nation. He said the presidential campaign entourage expected in the state, would include First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, Vice-President Namadi Sambo, PDP National Chairman, Adamu Mu’azu, among other National Working Committee (NWC) members of the ruling party. Speaking with THISDAY, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state police command, Mr. Geoffrey Ogbonna, said the Force was ready to provide maximum security both before and after the presidential rally. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/abia-in-expectant-mood-for-jonathan-s-campaign-rally/199249/ |

Governor of Niger state, Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, has expressed displeasure over the desperation of some politicians to return to power at all cost not minding their past antecedents, which glaringly makes them less acceptable to the generality of Nigerians. Eligible voters in the February general election has been challenged to be conscious of the people who solicit for their votes because of past records they left behind, as they could repeat same traits that have had negative consequences on the country and her citizenry. Such people, the governor observed, are not in the election because they have anything to offer Nigerians by way of service delivery but for self enrichment in their erroneous belief that politics is all about money and the fastest way to becoming rich. Aliyu spoke on Tuesday when he received, on a courtesy call, the leadership of Igbo community, led by Eze Ndigbo of Minna, Ngozi Pampas Wahiwe, Angas community in the state capital, led by Bitrus Simon and as well, members of the International Republican Institute of the United States of America. The category of politicians whom Aliyu, however, did not mention their names “should rather bury their heads in shame for not utilising the opportunity they had in the past instead of going to the electorates to seek for votes.” While challenging voters in next month’s election to be wary of those they will cast their votes for because of the past antecedents, Aliyu said: ‘We are not prepared; we need an equitable society, some people are not supposed to be running for public office because of their past. “Many candidates are also contesting the 2015 general elections because they see politics as the easiest way to make money,” insisting that: “if you want to be rich, go to the market to do business not to seek public office which is for service to the people.” http://dailyindependentnig.com/2015/01/aspirants-not-qualified-run-election-aliyu/ |
