Pls stop creating a sensational headline about the incident, it is only a precautionary measure dat d flight be cancelled to ascertained d cause of the failure and ensure its not something dat might affect d remaining engines.
Even wide body aircrafts such 747 & A380 can remain airborne even with a single engine if d other three engines fails. The aviation reporter here ought to have known better than us or is only trying to mis-inform the public.
And for the passngers trying to burst open d door, were they expecting to jump down on d tarmac, and did they forget about d emergency exit!, I believe d public needs more enlightnment on aviation!

SportsNigerians & Ghanaians Fight On Twitter After Olympics Basketball Loss by okuya(op): 6:49pm On Aug 03, 2012
There is hot war currently trending on twitter between Nigerians and Ghanaians after Ghanaians apparently made mockery of Nigerians over their record loss to the American basketball team at the Olympics.
The Ghanaians may have fired the first shot by tweeting dat Nigerians would've performed better at fraud and scam than basketball and other mocking tweets.
And when the Nigerians responded it was dirtier, they responded wit such unprintable tweets that could av gotten one the death penalty for devilish, cruel form of racism if he was to be white.
I personally was shocked when I saw such trends dis morning, but never knew how seriouse it was until I got two seperate calls from friends in accra, one of whom is a Nigerian movie producer telling me how serious ghanaians took d tweets, and how he was insulted over the tweets, and calling friends here in Nigeria I was shocked to hear how emotionally bitter he was wit the ghanaians saying he doesn't want to see any ghanaian around, claiming that they are jealous and generall hate Nigerians as a peoplem
So people I plead let us be careful what we write about other people, nation or tribe in the scial media ,it could grow so ugly and big into something we may not be able to controll such as xenophobia

]This goes to tell you that hurricane-corruption is not our only natural disaster. It shows that we are not immune to these types of catastrophes. The more sad thing is that we are not even ready. First of all we are not capable of seeing it coming, and second of all when it comes, we are not capable of mitigating the damages with properly trained response teams (if you doubt me, check the video of the police guy up north that was shed to pieces by the bomb two months ago), and lasty it will take for ever for us to pack up the broken pieces and move the heck on. Having the WAEC building as a neighbour for close to 29 yrs, this building was like a second home as most of the staffs through the years were well known to me. For anybody who is familiar with this building would know that the elevator is a "no go area", and it is something next to a death-trap, this elevator has been out of order for over 95% of its life since I've known it, I remember when it was out of order for years and had its doors open with a single wood crossing the entrance to warn people of the danger, at a point a little who is the son of one of the staffs, while playing with another kid on the ground floor fell through it to the undergound and miraculously sustained no serious injury. On countless times it got stuck in the middle, and on many other timesthe doors refuse to open and you hear people banging and screaming when this happens as there are no functional emergency phone. Those of us who grew up knowing this building always use the stairway even if we should see a brand new elevator in the building and no matter the floor. MAY THE GENTLEMAN's SOUL FIND ETERNAL REST

PoliticsRwanda To Charge "hotel Rwanda" Manager (paul) by okuya(op): 9:55pm On Oct 27, 2010
By JASON STRAZIUSO and EDMUND KAGIRE, Associated Press Jason Straziuso And Edmund Kagire, Associated Press – Wed Oct 27, 12:40 pm ET

KIGALI, Rwanda – The Rwandan hotel manager portrayed by Don Cheadle in the movie "Hotel Rwanda" could face charges by Rwandan authorities over allegations the man sent money to opposition commanders, Rwanda's top prosecutor said.

But the former manager, Paul Rusesabagina, told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he hasn't sent any money to Rwanda in years, and that the government is launching a smear campaign against him because he has opposed President Paul Kagame in the past.

Rwanda's top prosecutor, Martin Ngoga, said Rusesabagina helped finance what he described as terrorist activities in Rwanda by helping fund commanders with the FDLR, or Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda. No formal charges have yet been filed.

Ngoga said he is asking U.S. officials for assistance in gathering evidence. Some of the financial transactions he alleges were criminal originated in San Antonio, Texas. Rusesabagina has a house in Texas but said he has never sent money to Burundi or Tanzania as is alleged by Ngoga.

"Those who want to continue considering him as a hero can go on," Ngoga told a news conference late Tuesday. "We consider him a serious criminal suspect who has been financing FDLR and we are challenging whoever speaks on his behalf to tell us whether he never sent money to these FDLR commanders we have in custody."

After his story was publicized in "Hotel Rwanda," Rusesabagina was hailed as a hero around the world. Former U.S. President George W. Bush gave him the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005, the highest civilian honor in the U.S.

However, the government of Rwanda did not view him as a hero after Rusesabagina began criticizing the regime of Kagame, who has since called Rusesabagina a "manufactured hero," according to Terry George, the director of "Hotel Rwanda."

Rusesabagina, 56, who was released from a hospital operation last week to find that his home in Brussels, Belgium had been broken into and documents stolen, says he has done nothing wrong.

"It is the latest step in a campaign against me by the Rwandan government that has included public insults, lies and physical harassment," Rusesabagina said.

"My foundation is advocating for a truth, justice and reconciliation process to try to foster sustainable peace in Rwanda , but anyone who opposes Kagame inside or outside the country is treated with this kind of harassment."

More than 500,000 Rwandans, mostly ethnic Tutsis and moderate Hutus, were killed in Rwanda's 1994 genocide. Kagame, an ethnic Tutsi, has tried to downplay the role of ethnicity in post-genocide Rwanda, and people in the country rarely refer to themselves as Hutu or Tutsi and can face charges for speaking publicly about ethnicity.

Human rights groups accuse Kagame's regime of iron-fisted control and of silencing opposition politicians and media outlets. Human rights groups and other critics decried the arrest of several opposition figures in the lead-up to Rwanda's August president election, and noted that several others were killed or attacked under suspicious circumstances.

The potential charges against Rusesabagina appear to be intertwined with those against Victoire Ingabire, a Hutu opposition politician who was jailed earlier this month on charges of forming a terrorist group.

Ingabire earlier this year sought representation by Peter Erlinder, a U.S. lawyer who was jailed by Rwandan authorities for about three weeks when he arrived in Rwanda in May to meet with Ingabire. Erlinder was welcomed back to the U.S. in July by Rusesabagina, and the two appeared together on a news program.

"The Kagame regime is beginning to show signs of desperation and lashing out in all directions," Erlinder said Wednesday, adding that the Rwandan government has been working toward charges against Rusesabagina for some time.
"He's already been declared persona non grata by Kagame several years ago," Erlinder said.
Ngoga said that the FDLR commanders in Rwandan custody have given evidence against both Ingabire and Rusesabagina.
Ngoga said Western Union money transfers by Rusesabagina were sent to two commanders in the FDLR with the aim of recruiting fighters for a new military wing of FDU-Inkingi, which is the political party headed by Ingabire.
"We are not talking in general terms, we are mentioning the names, the transactions which were done from San Antonio, Texas," Ngoga said. "It was received in Dar es Salaam and Bujumbura and sent by Paul Rusesabagina himself."

Rusesabagina told AP that the last time he sent money to Rwanda was in 2002 or 2003, and that it totaled at most 1,000 euros ($1,380). He said he supports Ingabire and other opposition candidates through press releases from his foundation and advocates for free, fair and open elections without violence or human rights abuses.
Rusesabagina said he was just released from the hospital following surgery and that when he went to his home in Belgium he discovered someone had broken in his house and stolen documents that are written in a Rwandan language.
"I am asking myself what a Belgian thief might want with documents with only a Rwandan could read?" Rusesabagina said.

PoliticsAmericans Company To Commercially Launch Flying Car In 2011 by okuya(op): 9:41pm On Aug 03, 2010

Bryan Nelson, 07.29.10, 06:00 AM EDT

A company called Terrafugia is expected to start selling ''The Transition'' late next year. Price: $194,000.
The Jetsons predicted that we'd have flying cars by at least 2062, and Back to the Future promised them to us by 2015. It turns out that reality may, for once, outpace fiction.

A small, privately held company called Terrafugia has recently gained FAA approval for its roadable aircraft (i.e., flying car), and new improvements to the vehicle's design bring it only about a year away from being available to customers, according to MSNBC.

Yahoo! BuzzDubbed "The Transition," Terrafugia's flying car takes the notion of driving a hybrid to a whole new level. The latest model features a more car-like look, with traditional headlights and even a license plate holder. Other new fixtures include an improved wing that folds up with a touch of a switch, like in a convertible car, rear-wheel drive with a continuously variable transmission, independent suspension and even a futuristic touch screen interface in the cockpit.

Aside from the innovative engineering specs, the Transition also performs fairly well with its fuel economy. It gets about 35 miles per gallon on the road and about 490 miles per full tank in the air.

When grounded, the vehicle folds its wings up to achieve legal street-ready dimensions. The concept is for users to be able to drive it from their own garage to a nearby airport, allowing for independent, convenient travel. At the very least, it would help drivers bypass those annoying airport wait times.

Purchasing one of the flying cars won't be cheap. The estimated price for a first-generation Transition is slated at around $194,000. Though that's out of the price range for the average consumer, it's at least an important first step toward bringing childhood fantasies of driving a flying car closer to reality.

SportsLagerback Says Poor Marking Frustrared Nigeria, & Messi Salutes Enyeama by okuya(op): 4:25pm On Jun 13, 2010
Nigeria boss Lars Lagerback lamented a lapse in set-piece concentration which allowed Argentina to score the only goal in the opening match of Group B.
Gabriel Heinze was unmarked when he headed in Juan Veron's corner in the sixth minute, while Nigeria goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama made several top saves.

"Unfortunately, there was a mistake from our side that created the corner kick," said Swede Lagerback."We were sleeping on one of the corners and that was enough. We were punished."
While Argentina's vaunted midfield and forward line were thwarted by an outstanding display by Hapoel Tel-Aviv keeper Enyeama, Nigeria wasted several potential goalscoring opportunities at the other end.
Striker Chinedu Ogbuke Obasi was particularly profligate, while Taye Taiwo and Kalu Uche missed good chances in the second-half.

However, Enyeama is confident the Super Eagles can respond positively in their next game against Greece, who lost 2-0 to South Korea in Port Elizabeth, on 17 June in Bloemfontein.
"We're not going to kill ourselves. We have two more games to play," said the 27-year-old."We thank God the score was a little encouraging."

Lionel Messi saluted the display of Enyeama after his performance kept Argentina's forward line at bay for much of the game.

"The goalkeeper was phenomenal," said Messi after the game. "He takes all the credit. We played a great game and created a lot of chances. We just couldn't get the second goal."

Enyeama said he needed to put on the performance of his life to deny Messi a first goal at the tournament.

"It would be my best possible performance playing against the best possible player in the world, so it was my best," Enyeama told a news conference after he was named man of the match.

PoliticsYerima: Fg Moves Against Underage Marriage by okuya(op): 9:55am On Apr 23, 2010
From Kingsley Nwezeh in Abuja, 04.23.2010

Following the recent alleged marriage of former Governor of Zamfara State, Senator Sani Yerima, to a 13-year-old Egyptian girl, the Federal Government has said it has called a stakeholders’ meeting to determine the measures to be taken against abuse of underage girls by men old enough to be their fathers.

In addition, it said legal steps to be adopted against such offenders are also being considered as a deterrent against such abusive behaviour.

Speaking at a USAID-funded roundtable to share experiences and best practices on gender dimensions of the Orphans and Vulnerable Children Programming in Nigeria, Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Josephine Anenih, said the marriage of a senator of the Federal Republic to a 13-year-old girl was repugnant and amounted to the debasement of womanhood.

The minister, who had come under pressure from gender-based activists to tackle the issue, said: “I will call a stakeholders’ meeting to deliberate on it and find a lasting solution to it. Men, who abuse vulnerable children; men, who marry 13-year-old children; I think such men should not be spared. They should be made to face the wrath of the law.”

The minister, who was represented by the Director of Orphaned and Vulnerable Children, Mrs Oby Okwuonu, said the issue of sexual vulnerability was a function of poverty as such abuses do not usually happen to the children of the rich.
In her remarks, Country Representative of Africare, one of the partners in the project, Maisha Strozier, said the project would last for five years in 11 focal states of the federation.

“USAID through management sciences of health recently commenced a $20 million intervention package for orphans and vulnerable children in 11 Nigerian states through community-based support for OVC in Nigeria.

“In five years, it plans to reach 50 thousand OVC and 12,500 caregivers in 11 focal states following national guidelines through a variety of community-based and family-centred approaches,” she said.

The former governor, a serving senator, had allegedly married a 13-year-old Egyptian girl. Such marriage is illegal in Egypt which prompted the senator to have allegedly moved the ceremonies to Nigeria.

The union had, however, drawn flaks and outrage from Nigerians, who felt such a union was quite unbecoming of a senator of the federal republic.

PoliticsTurai Checkmates Jonathan by okuya(op): 8:25pm On Feb 24, 2010
By Olu Jacob and Daniel Momoh (234NEXT)

February 24, 2010 07:34PM
The handlers of the ailing President Umaru Yar'Adua who sneaked him into the country in the wee hours of today have not wasted any time in trying to wrest power from Acting President Goodluck Jonathan.

Unconfirmed reports speak of plans to make him resign if he doesn't toe the line now being drawn by Turai Yar'Adua who is now effectively in charge of the presidency. A number of ministers who were deemed to have been disloyal to Mr Yar'Adua, are also slated to be sacked, and Dora Akunyili is said to be top on that list.

A source in Aso rock confirmed that officials of the State Security Service had this afternoon gone into the office of Mr Jonathan and conducted a thorough search although it is not immediately clear what they were looking for. They were allegedly working under the directives of Mrs Yar'Adua.

Only a few hours after he arrived the country, and while he lies convalescing in a ‘clinic', aides to the President began systematically to divest Mr Jonathan of any opportunity to exercise the powers of the presidency. He has been denied access to the President and to any information that will keep him abreast of the unfolding drama. Sources say he is barely managing to avoid embarrassment as events keep changing around him and he only gets to hear of the changes after they were announced.

As early as 11.31am, while he prepared for the weekly meeting of the Executive Council of the Federation, a security detail entered the chambers and immediately secured the president's chair to prevent Mr Jonathan from sitting on it. Less than one hour later, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Yayale Ahmed announced that the Council meeting has been postponed. Instead, Mr Jonathan was scheduled to have a private meeting with the ministers. That meeting eventually lasted less than 10 minutes and the confusion was evident in the faces of some of the ministers who appeared to be sleep walking .

As part of the process of demoting Mr Jonathan, Presidential spokesperson, Segun Adeniyi has announced that from now on the Acting president will revert back to his previous status of vice President, although he will still need to hold the fort while the President recuperates.

However, there are indications that none of this is happening with Mr Jonathan's consent as he remained locked out of the decision making process. Although no one has come out to say he is under house arrest, sources say after the search of his office, the Acting president was effectively kept apart and the coterie of visitors that has been around him in the last two weeks is no longer evident.

As a sign that Mrs Yar'Adua is now in charge of running the presidency, the Acting President has been scheduled to meet with her this evening, and sources say the fate of Mr Jonathan may depend on how that meeting goes.

US concerns
The United States of America has raised concern over the sudden return of Mr Yar'Adua. A statement from its mission in Abuja today warns that the President's return may create chaos in the nation's polity. According to Johnnie Carson, the US Under-Secretary of State on African Affairs, the US government hopes that, "President Yar'Adua's return to Nigeria is not an effort by his senior advisors to upset Nigeria's stability and create renewed uncertainty in the democratic process."

The statement also touched on the president's health: "We hope that his health is sufficient to enable him to fully resume his official duties," Mr Carson said, adding, "Nigeria needs a strong, healthy, and effective leader to ensure the stability of the country and to manage Nigeria's many political, economic and security challenges."

Some celebrate
Residents of Katsina, the home state of the president, yesterday came out in their thousands to celebrate the return of Mr Yar'Adua from Saudi Arabia. He was flown into the country from Saudi Arabia in an air ambulance Number HZM55A at about 1.47 a.m. yesterday.

Security sources say Mr Yar'Adua was forced to relocate to Nigeria from Saudi Arabia following the decision of the Saudi government to avoid mounting diplomatic crisis.

Status quo
The House of Representatives announced yesterday that it still recognises Mr Jonathan as the Acting President of Nigeria. According to the chairman, Rules and Business, Eta Inang, the status of Mr. Jonathan has not changed. Also, at about 5pm today, the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties welcomed the president into the country, but note that the manner of his arrival clearly indicates that he is too incapacitated to rule. However, a statement from the Peoples Democratic Party which also welcomed the President, praised Mr Goodluck Jonathan for holding the fort during the three months of the President's absence.
HealthYou Can Save A Life From Stroke- Very Important ! by okuya(op): 6:01pm On Feb 14, 2010
Request you to kindly inform this to as many as you can. It is for a good cause, because life is striving to make good causes everyday!! You could save a life.

STROKE: Remember The 1st Three Letters,  S.T.R
. If everyone can remember something this simple, we could save some folks.

During a party, a woman stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine and just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.
They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food - while she appeared a bit shaken up, everyone went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening before she left. Later that evening the woman's husband called telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - and passed away.
She had suffered a stroke at the party. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps she would be alive today.

Some don't die. They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead. It only takes a minute to read this,

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke, totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

Recognizing A Stroke

Remember the '3' steps, STR . Read and Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify.
Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster.

The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.
Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions

S * Ask the individual to SMILE .
T * = TALK. Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (eg 'It is sunny out today').
R * Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS .

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks,
call the Ambulance and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is

   1. Ask the person to 'stick' out their tongue.
   2. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other that is also an indication of a stroke.

A prominent cardiologist says if everyone who reads this information educates 10 other people; you can bet that at least one life will be saved.

AutosToyota Recalls 2.3 Million Vehicles Due To Accelerator Pedal Problem by okuya(op): 2:14pm On Jan 24, 2010
TORRANCE, Calif., January 21, 2010 --
Toyota Motor, Inc, today announced it would recall approximately 2.3 million vehicles to correct sticking accelerator pedals on specific Toyota Division models. This action is separate from the on-going recall of approximately 4.2 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles to reduce the risk of pedal entrapment by incorrect or out of place accessory floor mats. Approximately 1.7 million Toyota Division vehicles are subject to both separate recall actions.

“In recent months, Toyota has investigated isolated reports of sticking accelerator pedal mechanisms in certain vehicles without the presence of floor mats,” said TMS Group Vice President Irv Miller. “Our investigation indicates that there is a possibility that certain accelerator pedal mechanisms may, in rare instances, mechanically stick in a partially depressed position or return slowly to the idle position. Consistent with our commitment to the safety of our cars and our customers, we have initiated this voluntary recall action.”

Toyota’s accelerator pedal recall is confined to the following Toyota Division vehicles:

• 2009-2010 RAV4,
• 2009-2010 Corolla,
• 2009-2010 Matrix,
• 2005-2010 Avalon,
• 2007-2010 Camry,
• 2010 Highlander,
• 2007-2010 Tundra,
• 2008-2010 Sequoia

No Lexus Division or Scion vehicles are affected by this recall action. Also not affected are Toyota Prius, Tacoma, Sienna, Venza, Solara, Yaris, 4Runner, FJ Cruiser, Land Cruiser and select Camry models, including all Camry hybrids.

The condition is rare, but can occur when the pedal mechanism becomes worn and, in certain conditions, the accelerator pedal may become harder to depress, slower to return or, in the worst case, stuck in a partially depressed position. Toyota is working quickly to prepare the correction remedy.

In the event that a driver experiences an accelerator pedal that sticks in a partial open throttle position or returns slowly to idle position, the vehicle can be controlled with firm and steady application of the brakes. The brakes should not be pumped repeatedly because it could deplete vacuum assist, requiring stronger brake pedal pressure. The vehicle should be driven to the nearest safe location, the engine shut off and a Toyota dealer contacted for assistance.

Toyota will continue to investigate incidents of unwanted acceleration and take appropriate measures to address any trends that are identified.
