Catalan referendum: Riot police 'fire rubber bullets' at crowd as they block voters at besieged polling stations
Spanish police in riot gear seized ballot boxes and surrounded activist-held polling stations in Catalonia Sunday as thousands flooded the streets to vote in an independence referendum banned by Madrid.

As the vote officially opened, scenes of chaos erupted as police began moving in to prevent people from casting their ballots, forcing their way into one sports centre in the town of Girona where the region's separatist leader was due to vote.

Video footage from journalists on the ground appeared to show police firing rubber bullets at the crowd outside the Ramon Llull polling station in Barcelona, with one person said to have been injured.

Several people have suffered minor injuries, including cuts and bruises, as National Police and Guardia Civil security forces push their way through crowds of referendum supporters to access the interior of polling stations.

Spain’s interior ministry has asked people not to obstruct members of the security forces as they seize electoral material from polling stations across Catalonia, appealing for “cooperation and respect so that a direct court order can be enacted peacefully”.

God did not create Nigerian. The colonial masters did without seeking my opinion or yours and made sure that there is sufficient inequality that will break the country eventually.

Self determination is not madness. Staying in one Nigeria with a bunch of non progressives stuck in 19th century is the real madness!

Well that your analogy is faulty but let's even assume that it's not.... Are you still in your father's house? Will you Keep relying on your father to pay your bills rather than striving to be an independent man who can support his father. No matter how rich your father is, it is unbecoming of a child to become a perpetual liability on his father!

Well for your information that is how federating units are originally designed to operate. The state should be more powerful than the federal when it comes to internal affairs. The federal is more powerful when dealing with external affairs.

Each state in America has its own police and elects it's own Sherifs and they don't report directly to Washington DC. They control their natural resources and are in total control of their IGR. They don't receive monthly allocation from Washington.
If we want to copy, let's copy correctly

It may sound strange to you but in federal system, the federal government does not control all state apparatus as we have in Nigeria. Feel free to do your own research
but who told you US didn't had it's own secessionist, why they have?
why have they have same problem with us?
were they not better off than us?
and if community is of no important why God created us through Union!
It's because you people were greedy, full of hatred to others!
when you succeeded in division of Union we you build Berlin wall surrounding yourself!
self determination, a madness of 21st century, and it will consumed us all!

Barcelona police have sealed off a warehouse said to be stocking ballot boxes, as Spain seeks to obstruct a Catalan independence referendum.
The Guàrdia Urbana force was obeying an order from prosecutors to prevent the Catalan vote being held on Sunday.
About 16,000 school and university students marched through Barcelona demanding that the vote go ahead.
Spain is deploying thousands of extra police in the region. Madrid has ruled out talks on a vote it sees as illegal.
Some 10 million ballot papers have been impounded, and websites informing Catalans about the referendum have been shut down.
Guàrdia Urbana sources told Catalan daily La Vanguardia on Thursday that police would stop anyone trying to move ballot boxes to another location from the Calle Perú warehouse.
The Catalan President, Carles Puigdemont, has told Catalans on Twitter how they can find a polling station to cast their votes - by using a special app.
Meanwhile, Barcelona Mayor Ada Colau appealed to the European Commission to mediate in the standoff between Catalonia and the Madrid government, in an opinion piece in The Guardian.
She also accused Madrid of having allowed the long-running Catalan sovereignty issue "to escalate from an internal dispute to a European conflict".
Catalonia, a wealthy region of 7.5 million people in north-eastern Spain, has its own language and culture, and has a high degree of autonomy. But it is not recognised as a separate nation by the Spanish state.
Spain's secretary of state for security, José Antonio Nieto, said Catalans could hold a demonstration and celebrate on Sunday if they wished, "but they cannot violate the law and we all have to try to avoid that".
The Catalan government's foreign affairs chief, Raúl Romeva, echoed Ms Colau's plea for the EU to exert pressure on Madrid.
Speaking at the EU headquarters in Brussels, he said the Spanish government was undermining the EU's democratic values, enshrined in Article Two of the Lisbon Treaty.
"What we have today in Spain is the serious damaging of democratic rights and structures," he said. "We call on the EU institutions to take a stand… democracy is being eroded."
He also vowed that in the event of a Yes vote on Sunday, the Catalan parliament would declare independence 48 hours after publication of the results.
That appeared to contradict the position of President Puigdemont, who said "a unilateral declaration of independence is not on the table" - even if a majority voted Yes.
"What is on the table now is just a roadmap: and the referendum is Day One," he told the Spanish daily El Diario, urging Madrid again to open direct talks with Catalonia on its independence bid.
Spain has chartered three cruise ships to house up to 6,000 extra police officers in Barcelona and another port city, Tarragona.
But Mr Puigdemont said it was impossible for Spain to "seal off" the region.
He said "we're not going to advise anyone to do anything violent" despite the Spanish pressure to block Sunday's vote.
The Catalan police force - the Mossos d'Esquadra - is about 16,800 strong and has been ordered by Catalonia's chief prosecutor to help block the referendum preparations.
But the Mossos have warned that public order could deteriorate if its officers are deployed to prevent people from voting.
Spain's paramilitary Guardia Civil force has beefed up its presence in Catalonia.
Mr Puigdemont insisted that holding the referendum "is not a crime... and there is no threat to security".
"Clearly the Spanish government has a warlike determination to prevent the referendum," he said.

Foreign AffairsRe: The Kurdish Referendum And What You Need To Know by oladeebo: 7:57pm On Sep 28, 2017
BornAgainMay:
Ogbodo Maryann Chinenye wrote.............. And i concur!

Ordinarily, I had retired to un-analytical write-ups that send direct and obvious message to Buhari's handlers and his jihadists Nigeria Army. But the Kurdish referendum which no Nigerian Media is talking about due to the "bad market" the outcome of the event meant to them.

Because Biafrans deserved to know what actually played out in the just concluded Iraq Kurdish referendum, I decided to pen down this work. First and foremost, Kurdish people are people of inhuman treatment from where they are found in Middle Eastern States of Turkey, Syria, Iran and Iraq. Mostly in Iraq, they were dehumanised during the Saddam Husein era that they were victims of state sponsored terrorism as Biafrans are experiencing today in Nigeria. Iraq under Saddam Husein used chemical and biological weapons on the kurds. it was gory!

During the US invasion of Iraq in 2003, US and Israel found the Iraq Kurds as a better alliance to oust and destroy Saddam Husein who was an anti semantic. They Kurds used the opportunity to avenge their brethren bloods in the hands of "Sadman" and established a sophisticated regional army (pershmerg) that did well in the war against ISIL.

Having build up a strong military and region, they decided to seek an exit from the rest of Iraq. I want to say here that the Kurds have the highest oil resources Iraq survives with. When they initiated for the referendum, Turkey, Iran, Iraq and comatose Syria threatened hell on them if they dare conduct the referendum. Guess what! Israel told them to go ahead and conduct the referendum as she is there for them.

Today, it is done without any barking from the roaring lions. Those countries who threatened hell went to their shelve when it was obvious to them what Israel will do to them. Even the security council reservation over the referendum was swept under the carpet by Israel and Kurds. In life, what you need is a powerful friend and ally, believe you me, the sky is your stepping stone. Iran and Turkey could step down from their threat due to Israel's involvement, then what happens to Nigeria if Israel gets involve? She will just disappear!

I want to tell you in case you don't know, Israel is a trusted friend to Biafra. Shalom!
haa op!
why lie?
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says Iraq's Kurdish region has "thrown itself into the fire" by holding a referendum on independence from Iraq.
Speaking at a police academy graduation ceremony in Ankara on Thursday, Erdogan called on Masoud Barzani, the leader of Iraq's Kurdish administration, to be content with the region's current semi-autonomous status, enjoy its oil revenues, and not drag it into an "adventure that is bound to end in chagrin."
"Sit still! You are at the helm in northern Iraq, you have money, wealth and everything, you have oil," Erdogan said.
Turkey had forged close ties to Iraq's Kurdish region, but is strongly opposed to its moves toward independence. It has threatened military action and economic sanctions against the landlocked region.
Yildirim said Thursday that Turkey would not refrain from taking action if Turkey's security is threatened, adding however that "it is not our first choice."
Yildirim reiterated that Turkey would deal with the central government in Baghdad on issues related to border crossings, air space and economic relations, no longer recognizing the Kurdish region's authority

JUSTICE NYAKO BLASTS ARMY: "Produce Nnamdi Kanu Before Court Or I Will Hands Up His Case"

The Judge of Abuja High Court, where the supreme leader of IPOB, MAZI NNAMDI KANU is facing trial, Justice Binta Nyako has expressed her displeasure as how the Nigerian Army will invade the house of a man who is about to appear in court in three weeks time.

According to a close confidant of the high court judge, "this is never done, you never can attack a client who has a case to answer. Now he has been declared missing and am putting it on those that invaded his home to provide him before the court or I will will hands up anything about his case."

The source said that she questioned the intelligence of the Nigerian military by entering into a trap set for them, stressing that how can Nnamdi Kanu be setting a trap for Nigeria and they will be trapped in it?

She said the Army should have consulted the court first before any attack on him, as he is well educated and knows which trick to use to pin Nigeria down, and they are always trapped in.

Since the aftermath of the invasion of Kanu's residence, the international communities eyes are now beamed on Biafra, as she is gaining more sympathy.

"The Army are to provide him next in court or I hands off," Nyako was quoted as having maintained

This is a big lie
We will be closer to power
a big lie?
see this and query why:

Since The Amendment of 1999 constitution made by the two house of Assembly recently Nigerian politicians had bound together to kick against the amended constitution, Ibadan summit is one of the gang-up against it.
But why politicians against the youths political ambition?
It's because the recent 1999 constitution amended taken them by surprise due to the level the amendment largely cut Nigeria politicians into minimum size in favour of Nigerian youths!
i. The reduction of the age of candidate of governorship and presidential!
ii. The independent candidate!
iii. The autonomy of LG!
iv. The autonomy of State of Assembly!
v. The devolution of power rejection!
These five Amendment were the big blow to Nigerian politician, the main reason they bound together to kick against the 1999 constitution in totality!
They adopted the 1963 constitution claimed is the best constitution that favour Nigeria nation;
but the question is this what political opportunity this 1963 constitution open for Nigerian youths?
