Oga keep quiet. I am Okrika and you are telling me that I'm not Ijaw? Are you this dumb? Why the envy for Ijaw?

Okrika is aKingdom and not ethnic group, like Kalabari, Nember, Brass, Gbaramatu etc. You guys should stop your ignorance.

Keep deceiving yourself there is nothing like Ijaw in Rivers State. Do your research. Stop trying to foist yourself on them. Now that Goodluck became presidents you people want to claim Ijaw. Dude, leave them alone.

Oga please amend your post.

Kalabari and Okrika are not distinct ethnic group. We are Ijaws and belong to the Eastern Ijaw clan. Ijaw is a nation that comprises of different clans and kingdoms. Kalabari Kingdom and Okrika Kingdom belongs to Ijaw nation. Ijaw is a nation.

I am Proudly Okrika
I am Proudly Ijaw 100%

Okrika and Kalabari are two distinct ethnic groups. They are in no way Ijaws. Why not let the Ijaws be?

When The Cattle Thief Announces The Arrival Of The Shepherd’s Dog As A Wolf

Sir, I want to thank you for your concern about the welfare of the people of the South South by exposing the plans of the Igbos to recolonize the region. But I am worried about the sincerity of these your concerns. Because of these worries, let us dissect and carefully assess your statements of fear and concerns in four (4) segments, so as not to repeat the mistakes of 1964, 1966 and 1967-1970s till date. In your carefully written letter or chat with the Journalists as reported in the national dallies yesterday, you clearly stated that the Igbos want to;

(1). SEIZE THE ECONOMIC PROSPECTS OF THE MINORITY ETHNIC NATIONALITY OF THE OIL RICH REGION.

Alhaji Ringim, may I remind you that the economic prospects of the South South is currently being seized and controlled by your people of the Northern protectorate of Nigeria. Does that in anyway mean that you agree that your people have colonized my region? Are you also aware that even the oil wells in Abia State, Imo State and Anambra state and recently Enugu State (Igbo land) is being owned by your people in the Northern Protectorate? Are you aware that we in the oil rich region (South South) do not have control over our wealth, and its fortunes are determined by your people? Are you also aware that after sharing the proceeds of oil between your protégés in Shell, Mobil, Agip and Chevron, the left over is given to 44 local government of your state Kano, and only 8 Local government of Bayelsa? How more criminal could that be?

Do you know that even when the Natural Gas from my State Akwa Ibom is used to generate power from my state owned Power Station, that the fraud of a constitution you fostered on my people does not allow me to use same electricity in my state or region, but I am forced to load it into the National grid that sends same power to your home in Kano State? Have you seen how the United Nigeria is enslaving me? Are you aware that the fraud of your constitution took away the economic prospects of my region by empowering only the Federal government to build roads that your people from the Northern protectorate never built in my state for over 40 years until the coming of our own Son Goodluck Jonathan, when he allowed state governments to tamper with Federal Roads, yet you were busy building all the so called federal roads in your region.

That your fraud of a constitution imposed on us by you and your allies in the southwest took away the power from us to develop on the economic prospects of the region thereby taking away our rights to economic progress for over 50 years. And here you are sir getting worried of what the Igbos will do to my people. Sir, have you been ever worried about what your people have done to my people? How many of my people have you killed in your region? Please tell me the number of my people slaughtered by the Igbos in their land that is enough for me to be weary of them. Remember that these are my neighbors that lived peacefully with us for centuries, shared cultures, intermarried and even celebrated common cultural events before you came with your successful propagandas that deceived our fathers?

(2). COLONISE THE SOUTH SOUTH, CAPTURE THE REGION, COLONISE THE OIL FIELD FOR BETTERMENT OF THE IGBOS.

Alhaji Sagir Ringim may I remind you that the Igbos are not the colonist as you have insinuated here, but you and your people in the northern protectorate. They have so far not shown the threat to colonize as when compared to your people. It is your people that used the oil from our region to better the livelihood of your people and that of your few allies in the Southwest. It is you that is synonymous with the word “CAPTURE”. It is your people that kill non-indigenes in your region to take-over their property. Alhaji Sagir Ringim, just in case you think this generation is as vulnerable are our grandfathers and fathers you deceived by your propaganda. You were able to make them see the Igbos as their enemies in the 60s. Please note that this is the 21st century of 2016.

We are aware of these same lies you told our grandfathers and fathers in the early 60s. We are aware that after lying to them that they were different from the Igbos, you still went ahead and killed them in the name of killing the Igbos. We are aware of the devilish, malicious and infernal act you used one of your willing protégés General Gowon to do when you suddenly created the South East State (Today’s Cross River/Akwa Ibom State), Rivers State (Today’s Rivers and Bayelsa state) just to devise the divide-and-rule policy that was advise by the evil British woman just to break the unity of the region.

We know that is was also based on Awolowo’s advise that certain parts of Igbo were sliced off, and added into the new states you created so as to weaken any form of unity that could hold. We have also read from a list of newspaper publications from the New York Post of the 60s as compiled by the LOWER NIGER CONGRESS on all the atrocities you committed against the people of the region before your final propaganda to separate them by these hypocritical lies. And we promise you that even though you used your fraud of a constitution to discourage the study of Nigerian History of the said period in Nigerian Schools, we will do well to expose this events in a carefully Chronicled format for every child/youth of this generation to know the truth. How dare you assume that even in the retard state of your protectorate, that you can conveniently influence the minds of the learned region in this millennium?

(3). BIAFRA IS LANDLOCKED AND WASN’T BLESSED WITH SOLID MATERIALS APART FROM COAL, ADDED THAT THE GEOLOGY OF THE ENCLAVE CAN’T SUPPORT AN INDEPENDENT COUNTRY.

Alhaji Sagir Ringim, if these are your fears about the existence of Biafra, first of all, are you revealing the fears of your region, the Northern protectorate of the 12 Sharia states or the entire protectorate? You do not have any mineral resources and you are landlocked. Are you telling me you and your people have been so worried of surviving alone hence your insistence of a non-functional ONE NIGERIA PROJECT? Let me explain this to you Sir;

The Igbos you are taking about do not just have a large reservoir of Coal in Enugu that can last for another century knowing that Coal is presently running major economies in Europe, South America and South Africa, the region also has a large reserve of Oil and gas in Abia and Imo state. Oil exploration in Anambra state has also commence and will soon commence in Enugu State. Can you see that your propagandas won’t work as it did in the 60s?

Apart from the fact that your people maliciously separated the Igbos from their original race to Delta, Rivers and Akwa Ibom states, we at the LOWER NIGER CONGRESS have taken it upon ourselves to expose the malicious schemes of lies you used to separate our region. Your protégé General Buhari made it easier for us on National Television when his hatred for the people overwhelmed his ability to continue in the cover of your propaganda. He acknowledged the fact that we were all the same people. That notwithstanding, in a matter time, your lies and propaganda will hit the broken bridges of discontinuity. How dare you generate fears that do not exist for your selfish interest? You must have been thinking how successful your deceitful and hypocritical lies would go in rejuvenating the lies of the 60s.

(4). BECAUSE OF THESE NATURAL SHORTCOMINGS, IGBOS SURVIVED AS A DIASPORA RACE THAN ANY DOMINANT GROUP IN NIGERIA. THE ECONOMIC PROWESS OF THE IGBOS IS DOMICILED OUTSIDE BIAFRA.

Alhaji Sagir Ringim, this is the most absurd and ridiculous of all your concerns as expressed by your expression of love towards my people in the Niger Delta region. Industrialist do not just sit and lazy about as expected by you. And these were one of the fears and concerned expressed by your late Sultan in a video we managed to see where he was worried about the Igbos in the north. Alhaji, are you aware that your successful brother, Dangote; one of the richest man in Africa, has his economic wealth spread and domiciled outside the Northern region? Or are you in anyway saying that because people expand, explore greener areas, that means such an individual has no space in his home? Your points are a bit too ridiculous to have considered as your reasons for granting this interview.

Having segmented your major reasons for advising my region to be weary of our Igbo brothers as those that intend to recolonize my people, I stand bold to say that you and your kinsmen are guilty of all your worries. It is also a cause for concern that you and your allies have suddenly decided to worry about the Niger Delta region. When did you love the region this much?

Are you not the same people that classify us all as Igbos during your killing and butchering spree and largess in the north?
How come you are bothered that the people you classify as one when butchering, are two different people when it comes to owners of wealth?
If you could desecrate our land as if we do not exist, come in and take away our oil wells as though it belongs to you?
Announce on National Television that the Oil in Bayelsa belongs to you in Kano and Jagawa?
Kill us at will if your religion is disrespected in faraway Norway?
Determine for us when and how our roads are built and how we use power generated from our resources?
Swore over your graves that our our kinsman cannot be President or else you make the country ungovernable of which you did?

Yet you have the guts to tell us to be weary of those that have not in any way attempted to take anything from us by force. I truly hope you realize that this is 2016 and not 1964.

It is best to inform you and all those that have decided to cry more than the bereaved that we are aware that these are the same propaganda you used to separate us, then forced us to continue in this unholy Union. That was a very unfortunate thing to have happened that kept us in this bondage.

Fortunately for us, the UNITED NATION CHARTER ON THE RIGHTS OF THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE is a tool you cannot do anything about. THE LOWER NIGER CONGRESS has taken advantage of these rights and it is set to call for a referendum. Quit crying on our behalf, we are presently studying the Constitution of which the Region will be built upon and so far, it can never be an evil as the Forced Marriage called Nigeria.

Thank you for your concerns Alhaji and co.

Culture / Obaship Crisis Rocks Yorubas In FCT by Olaedo1: 8:12pm On Dec 03, 2015
Obaship dispute rocks Yoruba community in FCT

The Obaship crisis rocking Yoruba Community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is showing no sign of abating. In fact, it got to a level that the traditional ruler of Yoruba in the territory, Oba (Dr) Olusegun Salau, warned those he accused of sowing seeds of discord among members of the community for selfish interests, to desist from such. He even threatened that henceforth, anybody caught in the act would be handed over to security agencies for appropriate sanction.

The major contention is over who the authentic Oba of Yoruba in Abuja is. Salau had insisted that he remained the only recognised Oba and advised the contenders to embrace peace in the interest of the Yoruba race.

Oba Salau recently summoned an emergency meeting with chiefs and elders of the Yoruba community at his Kado’s place in Life Camp to find solution to the crisis. He told them that the meeting was summoned to find a way of redeeming the image of the community which he noted had been badly damaged through incessant crises and indiscipline among residents.

The Oba expressed dissatisfaction that the main reasons for the formation of the community were yet to be fully realised many years after the community was formed. ”During this period, it has been one form of crisis, mistrust, bickering, blackmail and all these have largely affected our progress and image as a community in FCT,” he told them.

According to him, “going down memory lane, you will recall that the birth of Yoruba Community, FCT came into being following my installation as the Oba Yoruba of Abuja at an event which was widely publicised and which was attended by all prominent Yoruba sons and daughters residing in Abuja.”

Oba Salau, who highlighted most of the steps taken earlier to ensure peace within the community as well as in other ethnic groups within the FCT, including the emergence of Six Area Councils’ chairmen with the appointment of an Oba as the chairman to coordinate the activities of the Yorubas in each Area Council who should report back to him, said that it was unfortunate that some members went ahead and sabotaged the efforts for selfish reasons.
He told them: “It is time to put an end to all this nonsense. Our teeming brothers and sisters resident in the FCT are looking up to us for what will benefit them just as their neighbours are benefitting from their own tribal communities. In this new era of change, we cannot continue this way; it is unacceptable to me.”

Oba Salau insisted that there was no leadership problem in Yoruba community in the FCT and said: “I am the only person so chosen by the Ona of Abaji, Alhaji Adamu Baba Yunusa as the paramount traditional ruler and leader of Yoruba Community. I am quite aware of my enormous power
“The fact that I allowed everybody to operate freely does not mean I am weak. Henceforth, I have resolved to put an end to this disgrace and embarrassments. My actions to some extend are to bring sanity and honour to the Yoruba community, FCT where it will earn us greater peace and progress,” he stated.

Oba Salau, certainly, did not stop there as he announced the prohibition of proliferation of Obaship titles in the FCT, saying that the action was in line with the authority conferred on him by the Ona Abaji and chairman, Council of Traditional Rulers in FCT, Alhaji Adamu Baba Yunusa.
According to him, “Henceforth, there is only one Obaship title in the whole of FCT, which is my own: the Oba of Yoruba Abuja, while the rest will be known and addressed as Chief of Yoruba in the respective villages as my representatives in all the satellite towns and villages and they are expected to report back to me the activities of the Yorubas in the council areas

“Anybody or group of persons that move about parading themselves as leaders of Yoruba Community in Abuja, without my knowledge, for instance, the so-called Egbe Omo-Odua Yoruba in FCT, will henceforth be dealt with and treated as fraudsters.”
“Any Chief without my approval that moves around parading himself as Chief of Yoruba in any part of the FCT, for instance, those whose certificates as Yoruba leaders do not emanate from my office, will be dealt with and treated as fraudsters,” he added.

More Nigerians come out to condemn thug-journalist, Adeola Fayehun, for her embarrassing character on Inauguration Day

***As a lecturer in Media Ethics we unanimously scored her zero yesterday in class here in Johannesburg

Abiola Kahdijat had this to say: "Sahara Reporters celebrating its failure. A journalist who chased his/her target for minutes and couldn't get a single word out from the target is a failure.
We saw how you guys went wild after Mugabe failed to alter a word... Lack of professionalism at its peak!"

"That was extremely unprofessional and capable of causing diplomatic rift between Nations. Mugabe was tolerant and acted like the Hero by not uttering a word."

Alexander Orchman says: So you call that stupid approach to another country's president a great achievement, how many Nigeria politician have you been able to follow and embarrass that way? You should be ashamed of your way of journalism and go back to school.. The last time I watched you interview Doyin Okupe with all the trash he said about Nigeria you could not even attack him or ask him any crazy question even while he was standing in from of you insulting Nigerians.. Example he said ''Nigeria is not America so for that reason we don't need electric trains'' Why don't attack him that way? I guess you wanted a selfie with Mugabe in order to be noticed.. Talk to our leaders first before embarrassing another country's leader, he has never been address like that in any part of the world in such a touting manner. FIX UR #HOME FIRST

Ugochukwu Johnbosco Chinedu Ezeomedo says: Mediocrity is being promoted in Nigeria. As a lecturer in Media Ethics we unanimously scored her zero yesterday in class here in Johannesburg. She showed practical example of unethical and unprofessional journalism. Please stop promoting that mediocre. Is that how Christine Amanpour of CNN or any other well-mannered and professional journalist get their information from their interviewee?

Abdul-mujeeb Bayo Adebolajo ends off by saying: By the way who made this Dracula-like market woman the "queen of Nigerian satire?. More like her royal stupidness. You've earned a bad reputation for spewing disrespect for the past government now you seek to export your Junkery to the outside world and give Nigeria a bad name and more enemies, hence tearing the African continent apart with your divisive yellow journalism. You won't endure for long, soon you'll become a pariah media and isolated like a malicious virus.

Nigerians are still hot over this issue and are not ready to let it go. From the way things are unfolding, it may be proper for Ms. Fayehun to issue an unreserved apology to President Mugabe, Nigerians, and the rest of Africa.

Politics / Amaechi Is Out To Kill Me, Says Ex-militant Leader Tom Ateke by Olaedo1: 10:34pm On Mar 10, 2015
Amaechi is out to kill me because i refused to carry out his instructions to disrupt the campaigns and the general elections, says Tom Ateke

''Amaechi invited me to Government House and gave me N50 million himself after he had won the party primary before he was changed with Celestine Omehia. This was in 2007. Infact, if Rivers people would remember, then, my presence in Port Harcourt was seen by some and the rumour was all over. This was when i actually went to pick the money from Amaechi.

''When he was eventually changed, he asked me to do a lot of things, which includes, to disrupt the Celestine Omehia campaign and the general elections. Then, i told him, i was no longer interested in politics and that i want to face the Niger Delta struggle. The next call i had from Amaechi was a threat, that i am an ingrate and that he will deal with me. This was the point we fell apart.

''While i demanded that the Truth and Reconciliation Commission come to my camp and get this information directly from me as they responded to Odili and others who wanted their testimonies to be taken outside Port Harcourt for security reasons, Amaechi stopped the commission from comming just as he discouraged the Senate President from visiting the creeks early this year.

''The world should know that, i'm not the only militant leader in Rivers state but Amaechi is out to kill me because i refused to carry out his intructions to disrupt the campaigns and the general elections. Secondly, he feels i will use the arms he bought for me against him. That is why when he came into office, his first job was to mobilize the JTF to loot and attarck me. I want to say that if the Federal Government does not prevail on Amaechi to stop using its forces to wage his personal war with me, the desired peace will elude the region as i will not fold my hands and watch his efforts to kill me thrive''.

The National Emergency Management Agency Debunks TB Joshua 's Terrorist Attack Claim On Church

***Additional Three-storeys was erected on a plan made for two-storey building

South-West zone of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, told Saturday Independent that the collapsed building was a five- storey, which was initially two, adding that the additional three-storey was being constructed when it collapsed at about 1p.m. on Friday.

“The additional three was being constructed when it collapsed around 1p.m Friday afternoon. The church members have been very aggressive and tried attacking emergency responders. Before emergency responders arrival, about 15 are said to have being rescued alive and three dead. Many are said to trapped still.”

He said before emergency responders arrived the scene at about 2p.m., about 15 persons trapped in the building had been rescued alive, while three lifeless bodies were also recovered, adding that many were still trapped under the rubbles.

But Farinloye lamented that the church members displayed aggressive behaviour and tried to attack emergency responders.

Onlookers who tried to take pictures with their phones incurred the wrath of irate members as they attempted to seize their phones and cameras.

Personnel of emergency agencies and journalists were battered and molested by angry worshippers who stormed the scene of the incident, saying they would manage the situation themselves.

Still and video cameras were also said to have been smashed to discourage anyone from recording picture of the building and the rescue efforts.

It was also gathered that those who narrowly escaped were also treated by health workers in the waiting Lagos State Ambulance Service, LASAMBUS ambulance.

Officers of the Rapid Respond Squad (RRS), personnel of the Lagos State Fire Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) also had a hectic time controlling the situations.

They were, however, not allowed to do coordinated rescue efforts as thugs and some hostile worshippers frustrated their efforts and eventually dispersed them from the scene.

Personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) also battled to control the crowd and the traffic gridlock compounded on the axis by the incident.

The Director of Lagos State Fire Service said the building collapsed on some of the labourers working in it, adding that he could not ascertain the number of people trapped in the building.

Asked whether the church management sought approval before constructing the building, General Manager of the Lagos State Building and Control Agency (LASBCA), Mrs. Abimbola Animashaun, said the government could not confirm or trace any document stating approval to commence construction work in the premises.

Animashaun who led her team to the scene of the incident said none of the church members could provide evidence of approval for the building.

“We have been here challenging them on the building approval but they haven’t said anything convincing. They claimed to have approval but we could not confirm it. They were told to bring the building approval authorised by the government none of them could do that,” she said.

Also, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Olutoyin Ayinde, said he could not confirm, at the moment, if the state government gave approval for the construction of the first two-storey.

2015: Jonathan WON’T win, if… —Asari-Dokubo

Our Reporter December 29, 2012

By IHEANACHO NWOSU, Abuja

Alhaji Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, leader of Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force (NDPVF), is seen differently by Nigerians. For some, he is a troublemaker, while others see him as a sincere and outspoken Nigerian who would not keep quiet when things are not going the way he wants.

In a chat with newsmen, Asari-Dokubo clearly showed this stuff as he slammed President Goodluck Jonathan, who is considered as his benefactor. According to him, the President is losing focus and that may rob him of victory in 2015 if he decides to re-contest the top office.

Would you, in all honesty, say the incumbent administration is on track?

I want to start with an Ijaw proverb, which says that the eyes watched its seven children to death, instead of advising them it was just looking at them until they died while the mouth talked its only child to life and success. We have continued, as Ijaw people and the entire Niger Delta and South-South, to support the presidency of President Goodluck Jonathan, but a time has come when silence cannot be golden. We have to speak out on issues that are critical to the survival of our people, the survival of the people of the South-South and the South East, which is the political base of Goodluck Jonathan.

Jonathan is surrendered by very greedy people who are only in the presidency to enrich themselves at the expense of Goodluck himself. This brings us to another Kalabari proverb, which says: where there are elders, a goat cannot be allowed to deliver tied to a stick. If we don’t talk and we continue to brush it aside, tomorrow we will be blamed and people will say: Mujahid Asari-Dokubo was around when Goodluck Jonathan was president, and he didn’t talk; then I will be an accomplice and accessory after the fact.

I have benefited immensely from Goodluck Jonathan with my stake, but benefit alone is not enough to make me to keep quiet when the period is very challenging for our people.

What is your reaction to the face-off between the President and Obasanjo?

First, there was no need for Goodluck Jonathan whatsoever to disagree with Olusegun Obasanjo. I don’t like Obasanjo. I don’t like his face. I hate him, but he was instrumental in bringing Goodluck Jonathan to power. And the greedy people around Jonathan have not managed him enough, to the extent that the president and people around him will disagree with Obasanjo openly. And if you check, all the people who supported Goodluck Jonathan and fought to bring him to power have openly disagreed with him. What was the cause of these disagreements? This is a question for the president.

It is alarming because the South-South must have its uninterrupted eight-year tenure, which is constitutional, but with how things are going under Jonathan’s watch, we are afraid that we may not be able to have our eight-year tenure, because there will be no magic about it; if it is going to be one man one vote.

Some people say Obasanjo is manipulating Goodluck Jonathan; that is why Jonathan is disagreeing with him, and we ask: what has Goodluck Jonathan’s government achieved to show that it is a departure from other governments that have existed since 1956? For us, nothing has changed. It is still business as usual. So, what is the advice that Obasanjo gave to Jonathan that is so difficult for him to carry out, that made him decide to fall out with Obasanjo? Obasanjo manipulated the process that illegally removed Diepreye Alamieyeseigha as governor of Bayelsa State and installed Jonathan as governor, made him vice president, fought for him to become acting president and also fought for him to become president of Nigeria. Apart from Obasanjo, there are so many people who supported Goodluck Jonathan; some have been pushed out by those who were not there to give him any support, while some others are trapped and they cannot talk.

What would you identify as the main problem making the President not to perform?

The problem is that the president is surrendered by greedy people who do not want him to make any progress. I have known the president for more than 20 years, and I know he is a very simple, humane man, but he has allowed himself to be imprisoned by people around him, and this is what we are saying that this must stop.

After the election of the president, before his swearing in, I granted an interview, where I said that if Jonathan failed to perform in six months, he would lose all the goodwill, and today as we can see, the president is losing all the goodwill. The social media was one of the avenues the president used to come to power, but today, anywhere you go in the social media, he is being called all sorts of names, all sorts of derogatory names. We cannot continue to be taking punches for the president when he has refused to wear his gloves.

As at today, the president is removed from his own people; his people do not have access to him; so people like us who have access to him become target. When Joseph was sold into captivity in Egypt, from slavery to prison and from prison he became a prime minister, the first thing he did was to invite his family, from Israel to Egypt, to come and partake in his new found status. There is something wrong somewhere; the people around the president have fenced him out so that he cannot even see his direct family, and this is why I called this press conference. I have complained to Ijaw elders that I cannot keep quiet over things that I have seen, and they say I should wait. I am asking here, how long will we keep quiet? Our people now feel that we are at the riverside and yet use spittle to wash our face. That Jonathan’s last line of defence is sidelined in his government speaks volume of the presidency of Goodluck Jonathan, and our people have started to complain, and very soon the bubble will boost and the people will openly revolt. People are dying on the East-West road and Jonathan and Orubebe are doing nothing. Jonathan and Orubebe will account for the death in the East-West road.

I continue to be an advocate of eight- year presidency for the South South and eight years in the South East because the old Eastern Region is the most deprived region in this country, if you consider the number of people that have become president this country. It is not about Goodluck; it is about where we come from; my continuous support for Goodluck is because he is the standard bearer of the collective movement for change. However, some of us are tempted to ask this question: why are all these things happening? Why has the president allowed some ministers, like Godsday Orubebe to continue in government? Every day people die on the East-West road. If Orubebe is incompetent, he should be removed. Nobody voted for Orubebe. And why is Orubebe so important to the president that he can’t remove him?

Were you close to Orubebe before he became minister?

Orubebe was one of us. He was attending meetings with us, sleeping in the ground with us, entering night bus with us, and we nominated him to be appointed a minister; we have gone to him and complained that we didn’t like the way things were going in his ministry, and told him that if the president left in 2015 without the completion of the East-West road, we are finished. And the man keeps telling us there is no money. When Ibrahim Babangida was there, there was money. When Abacha was there, there was money. When other people were there, there was money. How come the money disappeared when Jonathan got there?

We call on the president to act. If it is spiritual, if they have bound him with spiritual chains and covered his face with spiritual blanket, we pray that the blanket be removed and the chains broken. If the East-West road is not completed, the president will find it difficult to come back.

What is your take on the proposed construction of a new banquet hall in the Villa?

Why making frivolous provision for building of a new banquet hall? How will the building of a new banquet hall affect the lives of the people outside the village? What is the necessity for a new banquet hall? This is misplaced priority, and it should be expunged from the budget.

What is your reaction to the ongoing constitutional amendment?

I believe that the National Assembly, as presently constituted, cannot amend the constitution, because the National Assembly is not standing on any moral high ground to amend the constitution. There are fundamental issues. The constitution can only originate from the people and this can only be done when a sovereign national conference is convened. Nigerian constitution is a fraud and that is why fraud cannot end in Nigeria. Even the grand-norm establishing the Nigerian state is a fraud.

The issue of onshore offshore dichotomy is still very much debated in the polity. What is your view on this matter?

The irritating call for the removal of onshore offshore dichotomy is laughable and that is why some of us don’t want to talk. Somebody from Niger Republic will come to my place in the Niger Delta and claim that they should have access to the sea at the coast. If the 1914 mistake did not take place, this wouldn’t be happening. People should stop irritating us because we are tired of being irritated. They should not heat up the polity. And it is criminal and illegal that since 1999, when this constitution came into effect, the revenue allocation has not been reviewed, unlike before when it was being reviewed every five years. We also demand that the 13 per cent derivation should no longer go to the state governments. The money should go directly to the oil-bearing communities.

How do you think about the presidency’s reaction to the protest by Kalabari chiefs over the boundary dispute between Bayelsa and Rivers States?

On that issue, I don’t like the role played by the president. If Kalabari chiefs came to demonstrate, he shouldn’t have added salt to injury, by allowing that small boy they call Reuben Abati to refer to the action of Kalabari revered chiefs as primary school style demonstration. Will he say that about his kangaroo rulers? Why would he refer to Kalabari chiefs in that manner? Does he know the history of Kalabari people? Kalabari people have been trading with European since when his fathers were naked running after cockroaches and frogs. The president should remove this man for the insult because as a Kalabari, we don’t take such insult and we will react at the appropriate time to this insult and I know that when that happens, it will affect the president. Abati should be made to apologise to Kalabari chiefs for calling our chiefs primary school children.

Politics / Media Bias Of National News. A Surprise? by Olaedo1: 4:58am On Dec 03, 2013
Media Bias of National News. A surprise?

I find this strange, but I'm not a bit of surprised. As the public humiliation a an innocent poor widow by Governor Adams Oshiomhole went viral across Nigeria and the social media none of the follow news mediums The Punch News, Nigerian Tribune, Vanguard News, The Nation, and Channel TV failed to report on this huge issue. It was almost as if it never happened.

However, ironically, at the same time all listed news mediums The Punch News, Nigerian Tribune, Vanguard News, The Nation, and Channel TV happened to air the news of an alleged apology and the showering of money by the Governor of Edo State, Adams Aliu Oshiomhole simultaneously. I find this not only worrying but a disgrace to journalism and an insult to the Nigerian people in whole.

It is said that these media outfits are run by a syndicate known as the Lagos/Ibadan Press/Mafia. It is commonly said and believed to be the promoter of the political party known as the APC. With this being the case, Nigerians are being held ransom to one-sided views. With the example of the lack or reporting of a particular incident but the reporting, simultaneously, of a reaction is it not safe to say that the Lagos/Ibadan Press does exist? I think so.

Politics / Okonjo-iweala Slams Punch Newspaper Over ‘malicious, Defamatory’ Editorial! by Olaedo1: 12:22am On Nov 22, 2013
Okonjo-Iweala Slams Punch Newspaper Over ‘Malicious, Defamatory’ Editorial

Posted by: THEWILL_ Posted date: November 19, 2013

BEVERLY HILLS, CA, November 19, (THEWILL) – The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala, has described an editorial titled, “Jonathan, Okonjo-Iweala and Waivers” published on Monday, November 18 by The Punch Newspaper as malicious and defamatory.

A statement issued on Monday by the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Minister, Paul Nwabuikwu, said “We are astonished to find that The Punch, a national newspaper, can publish an editorial that is so ignorant, malicious and defamatory.”

The statement said ” We know the antecedents of this newspaper, but this recent editorial truly beggars belief,” adding “When a newspaper can trivialize corruption by branding the country’s industrial policy and underlying fiscal regime as corrupt, it detracts attention from the serious issue of corruption.”

According to the statement :

“This is a disservice to the Nigerian nation, and to all Nigerians.

“It is shocking that The Punch newspaper is not up-to-date on Nigeria’s industrial policies. In the past, waivers were granted to individual businesses in an approach that resulted in rent-seeking behaviors and an uneven playing field for other businesses. It was precisely the need to stop such a discretionary approach that led to reforms by the Economic Management Team under the leadership of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. A sector-wide waiver policy was introduced to provide specific incentives for some strategic, job-creating sectors. Under this regime, all businesses in a sector have access to the same incentives.

“These sectoral policies have included reduced import duty rates or waivers for equipment and materials for the hospitality, power and aviation sectors; for agricultural machinery; for solid mineral equipment; for gas-using equipment; for the steel sector; for specific manufacturing sub-sectors (e.g. for imports of completely-knocked down parts) and for automobiles and tires. There are additional programs such as the Export Expansion Grants (EEG) Scheme designed to promote Nigeria’s non-oil exports. These sectors are seen as strategic areas which can stimulate growth, support diversification of the Nigerian economy, and create jobs for Nigerians.

“This new approach to waivers is therefore an important tool for our national industrial policy, and is also used by other fast-growing economies, such as South Korea, Malaysia and China.”

The statement also lamented that “Had this recent article been the work of a sole reporter, we may have excused these errors as the mistake of an individual,” adding “However, when an entire editorial board of a national newspaper makes such elementary mistakes, it speaks to the abysmal quality of discourse which some of our media institutions are now undertaking.”

It nonetheless said ” We must remain thankful that there are other media houses that focus on reporting facts and issues in a spirit of true journalism and nation-building.

“Now, it is also not surprising that the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) would complain about waivers. Naturally, NCS would not like any waivers because they directly lower the total revenues collected at our borders. The remuneration for NCS is calculated as a percentage of total revenues collected, and this is directly impacted when waivers are introduced.

” However, the NCS is fully on board that the new sectoral waiver policy is far superior to the previous ad hoc and often unfair approach to waivers.

“As any undergraduate economist learns, a trade-off has to be made between short-term revenue collection, and the country’s long-term industrial development. We have to weigh the balance between collecting customs revenues today, versus providing incentives to our private sector to stimulate growth and job creation. We reiterate that, to label the government’s entire sectoral industrial policy as corruption, trivialises the fight against corruption, and diverts attention from such an important issue. This is irresponsible.”

The statement warned that “The Punch newspaper should note that no amount of spurious editorials will deter government from doing what is right for our national development,” adding “The newspaper only damages its own credibility, and will continue to do so, unless its uninformed reporting and editorial practices are changed.”

According to the statement, ” It is clear that The Punch newspaper is deliberately hounding the Co-ordinating Minister for the Economy who is widely recognised for her strict professional standards at home, and abroad, during her 25-year career at the World Bank and her five years of dedicated service to her country as Finance Minister.

” As your article noted, in her book, Reforming the Unreformable, the Co-ordinating Minister strongly condemned the abuse of discretionary waivers and pushed for a level playing field for all Nigerian businesses.

“These attempts to attack her and the Government will fail, because they only confirm the questionable editorial and journalistic standards of The Punch.”

Bilateral Air Service Agreement:

Just to inform those who are unaware of protocol in signing agreements between two nations. In recent news, news mediums such as Sahara Reporters and its affiliates Premium Times, Nigerian Tribune, The Nation, and The Punch News have erroneously, or rather, deceivingly conveyed to the Nigerian people a scenario that the Minister of Aviation was shunned by President Jonathan and not allowed to sign the BASA with Israel because of the alleged scandal. This is far from the truth. Proper protocol says that the Ministers of Foreign Affairs are to sign agreements made between two foreign nations. It is for this reason neither Ministers of Aviation, Nigerian or Israeli, signed off on the historic agreement. It's high time Nigeria stand up against these newspapers who have held the country in bondage in the name of promoting one ethnic agenda. Times is coming when Nigerians will neglect these mischievous newspapers and venture for others where TRUTH is the order.
