PRESIDENT BUHARI INAUGURATES NATIONAL COUNCIL TO IMPLEMENT NIGERIA STARTUP ACT 2022, ASSURES TECH-SAVVY YOUNG NIGERIANS OF FUNDS, TAX BREAKS Ø NIGERIA PRODUCES FOUR OF SEVEN UNICORNS IN AFRICA VALUED AT OVER $7.5BILLION President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday inaugurated the National Council for Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship with the mandate to guide the implementation of the Nigeria Startup Act (NSA) 2022. Speaking at the inauguration of the 14-member Council chaired by him, the President directed the Secretariat, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), to ensure faithful implementation of the Act, which provides incentives and support for start-ups, including tax breaks and access to funding. The inauguration preceded the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting and had members of the Digital Innovation Council in attendance. The President noted that Nigeria has been at the forefront of the remarkable growth of startups in Africa, with Nigerian start-ups raising over US$4 billion between 2019 and 2022. ‘‘It is worth noting the remarkable growth of start-ups worldwide, with over US$400 Billion of venture funding accessed in 2022. ‘‘This growth was fuelled by a surge in demand for digital services as people worldwide turned to technology to stay connected, work remotely, and access essential goods and services largely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. ‘‘In Africa, the startup ecosystem has also been growing at a remarkable pace. ‘‘In 2022, African startups raised a record of US$5.4 Billion in funding,’’ he said. President Buhari, therefore, charged members of the Council to harness the potential of Nigeria's young and innovative population, who have demonstrated their ingenuity, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit in creating innovative solutions to the challenges of the nation and the continent. ‘‘With this inauguration, which serves as our first meeting, I hereby direct the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami), to convene another meeting of the Council in May 2023 to make further progress on the implementation of the Act. ‘‘I congratulate the members of the National Council for Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship on their assignment and wish them a successful and productive engagement in harnessing our youth talents and uplifting our country’s economy to new heights,’’ the President said. Describing the Startup Act 2022 as a testament to the vision and commitment of his administration to harness the potential of Nigeria's young and innovative population, the President recalled that it was developed in collaboration with his office, the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, with the support of the Tech Ecosystem. He explained that the Act, which became law after its approval by the Federal Executive Council on 15th December 2021 and the Presidential assent on 19th October, 2022, provides incentives and support for start-ups, such as tax breaks, access to funding, ease of doing business, intellectual property protection, and participation in public procurement. He particularly commended the efforts of Pantami and the Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, for this achievement. The President acknowledged that as Nigeria aims to become a global talent factory through the implementation of the Startup Act 2022, its startup ecosystem still faces significant challenges, such as access to funding, support infrastructure, and skilled talent. ‘‘These remain major barriers to the growth of the ecosystem, particularly for early-stage start-ups. ‘‘The provisions of the Nigeria Startup Act 2022 represent an important step towards addressing these challenges and promoting the growth of a more vibrant and inclusive startup ecosystem in Nigeria. ‘‘Furthermore, implementation of the Act will lead to consolidation and further development of the gains recorded by Nigeria’s digital economy, in the last four years, in the areas of contribution to GDP and increased revenue generation, among others,’’ he said. President Buhari stressed that the Council would serve a critical governance structure in the implementation of the Act, which will ensure that government agencies, entrepreneurs, investors, and support organizations collaborate with the startup ecosystem to achieve the goals of promoting the growth of a vibrant and sustainable startup ecosystem. ‘‘I had earlier directed the Secretariat, the National Information Technology Development Agency to commence the execution of the implementation plan it developed. ‘‘One of the important aspects of the implementation plan is the development of the Startup Portal, which will serve as a platform that will drive the implementation of the NSA 2022 and collaboration between all stakeholders,’’ he said. The members of the Council include the Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Vice Chairman; the Minister responsible for Communications and Digital Economy, who will preside over the Council in the absence of the President and Vice President; the Minister responsible for Finance, Budget and National Planning; the Minister responsible for Industry, Trade and Investment; the Minister responsible for Science, Technology and Innovation and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. Others are four representatives of the Start-up Consultative Forum, one representative of the Nigeria Computer Society, one representative of the Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria) and the Director-General, NITDA, who will serve as Secretary of the Council. In his remarks, Pantami noted that it is widely accepted that digital innovation and digital entrepreneurship are the two prerequisites towards building an indigenous digital economy. He said the inauguration of the Council would support the administration to consolidate the gains and achievements recorded in the digital economy sector. ‘‘This administration has set three unprecedented records when it comes to ICT contributions to GDP. For example in the first quarter of 2020, ICT alone contributed to 14.07 per cent to the country’s GDP. ‘‘In the second quarter of 2021, ICT alone, without digital services, contributed 17.92 per cent to GDP while in the second quarter of 2022, ICT contributed 18.44 per cent. ‘‘Annually, this administration has been setting new records when it comes to ICT contributions to GDP,’’ he said. The Minister also used the occasion to apprise the Council that Nigeria’s broadband penetration is now 100 per cent with the deployment of SpaceX’s Starlink satellite Internet service. Furthermore, Pantani said out of 7 unicorns in the continent, Nigeria now accounts for 4 unicorns worth over $1billion each. ‘‘All these unicorns in Nigeria attained this position during this administration. The first was in 2019, while the second, third and fourth attained this position in 2021. ‘‘57.14 per cent of the entire African unicorns originated from Nigeria while the market value of 7 of them combined as at February 2023 is $11.45billion, with the 4 from Nigeria contributing $7.5billion,’’ he said. Lolz ![]() This my first experience with this kind of a lady. Being with this girl for about a year plus, at first, she was very serious about the relationship and I did as well but she's a type that requested too much, she be like I want to do my hair, I want to change my iPhone, I want to eat, I want to buy wears and she always find it difficult to take money from her pulse, she has a store where she was selling home things. Recently, I noticed she changed and me that always busy but always give her attentions needed, we spent lovely time together, and I always tell her she's cheating, she would say she's not, me wey understand her lifestyle because we are so close, she slept my place and I do spent night in her house as well. And before Val she came to me and asked of what I my getting for her for Val but since I knew she's cheating, I told her, what others have promised her for us not to get same thing for her, she was angry that day but she knew I am awared of her movement, the next weekend after that day, I got her call that she is hungry and she doesn't have gas and food at home, I told her to go and get a 2kg and also gave her some money to go and get something to eat in the market, but she said her bank doesn't have good network, I get down to her side, after she filled the gas and she brought a new phone out I was like the person that got it for you really tried ooo and she said she got it herself and I told her that she can't afford it herself, she said since I don't get it for her she decided to get it herself but i told her she can't, she's the type I knw. Last two weeks, it was about to rain at 7pm and she left my place an hours to the time and I called her because I was working around her area but she didn't pick up for like 5times which she doesn't normally do, when she returned my call, she said her phone was inside bag and I told her she was lying and she shouldn't bothered again, she normally call back in this kind of scenario but she wasn't, when I called her back 10mins for like 3x and she did not pick up I knw she wasn't alone. Yesterday, she went to market to price somethings and she called by that time and she later called back that she's on her way to shop that when she left shop she will branch somewhere and she will be coming down my side by that time. As the person I have been suspecting, she called like 15mins later that she's on her way and hungry as well, I know her mission (food), when she reached gate, I refused to go and to her, I just decided to just hurt her li2 so that I will enter her when she got angry, she call back like 2mins and I told her to wait, fortunately for her, someone exit the gate and she entered and saw me sitting down watching movie, she got angrily and dropped the water in her hand went home, at first I begged her but I later free her. It was around 7pm, I called her and she's not responding to my calls, she later picked and said I should free her, after some minutes, I thought it won't be proper for me not to go to her house explained what I really intended to achieved, so I left to her place, I checked her home she didn't avail, on my way going back, I saw her coming out of a place, I waited for her, when she was going to her place, she stopped at a space and I went there to beg and and explained why I did that to her, normally, she will go to her house straight but I was like why is she hanging out here, later she went back to where I saw her coming out from and I left her as well. After thinking of how badly she may be hurt with what I did to her, I msgd her and I requested for a change to give to bike man going back home, she was given me option that if I came to her house, I won't sit down not to talk of sleeping over, I said I agreed, she said it like 2x I was like this girl wasn't like this before, I responded to her in very hot way and she said I am free to come and have the money ooo,but since I have mission of trashing things out, I wnt straight to her place and when she opened the door, I was trying to plead with a hug but she rejected, she took #200 out and gave it to me and I wasn't leaving yet, hnmmm, after spending like 30mins, she heard of a bike bearby and she quickly got up and begging me to pls enter her kitchen, me thinking it was all prank, I jumped inside her kitchen, truly somebody knocked and she opened and I heard the guy telling her she's doing nonsense that he has been calling and she's not picking calls nah that time I understand that my suspicions about her cheating is 100% valid, after the guy para for her, he left and she was begging the guy , I was like wow, so you are now a gamer truly, I rushed out as well and picked up my things in her house and I left. And after some minutes this girl now call me back trying to play daft game she already knw it won't fly. I was so gently hitting her with fact and was just saying Hmm hmm Hmmm. |

Just came back from where I went to buy noodles and suya, cough tablets, I did transfer all through including to Mai Suya guy. My Last Week Terrible Banking Experienced. Last week Tuesday I was out of cash that I was left with just #200, so on Wednesday morning, I went to bank as early as 5.30am to pick up a number I will used to enter banking hall, I was given 108, I didn't even bothered to questioned the number I was given since I found many people in some banks before reaching my own bank, so after picking the number, I went back home to pray and help my wife with kids. Fast forward to 8.00am, I quickly rushed to drop off my kids at school and headed to bank straight, it was passed 8am, I so many people at the gate, fortunately for me, they just called 1-90 which many numbers were not around like me, getting to 9am, the crowd getting increasingly and the bank staffers were not able to control us, the manager came out and address us and he went back, when it's turn of 91-130 which I fall in, the crowd hijacked the gate and people rushed in and I managely rushed in as well. The manage came out of the banking hall and he ordered everyone of us should leave or they shut down operations for the day, I was like haaa, with this kind crowd ooo, when the man insisted, some of us obliged while some stayed aback, i think I made mistakes by leaving because those people that stayed back were later attended to first before us. And it's almost 10am, the manager came out again and said some of us should enter but we will used number to enter the banking hall, we all agreed, when they open the gate people still rushed in, after lining up, we spent like 30mins inside the hot sun, after some paparazzi, we were ordered to leave the sun and manager ordered those of us should enter in other for them to call in another set of people. It was after 11am I entered the banking hall, we were rushed to get withdrawal teller, queue for the withdrawal, i was feeling hungry and the cashier sent me back to go and verified my account bkos it's current account, that I will need to signed it from customer service, get it signed, went back and the man noticed that I am fucking angry and looks tired. He collected my slip and gave me #200x100 of old note, I wasn't even bothered to check it as I quickly rushed out of the bank and when I reached outside, I pity those that are still struggling to get number... ![]() God will judge them all. |
