But with this move, he has given the State Government the power to choose where to bury him

The letter containing his last wish will be prepared by his lawyer to meet up with all legal requirements to make it valid.

Defence Minister Backs Naval Officers Amid Reported Clash with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike


Minister of Defence, Mohammad Badaru Abubakar, has said that no officer or soldier on lawful duty will be punished as a result of the altercation that ensued between soldiers and the Minister of the FCT, Barr Nyesom Wike, in Abuja on Tuesday, November 11

Abubakar said this on Wednesday, November 12, while speaking on the occasion of the ministerial briefing to flag off the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and remembrance day celebration at the National Defence College.

‘’Well, at the Ministry, and indeed the Armed Forces, we will always protect our officers on lawful duty.

So we are looking into this issue, and we. assure that any officer on lawful duty will be protected highly, so we will not allow anything to happen to him so far he is doing his job, and he’s doing his job greatly well.” he said

Recall that Wike and a Naval officer, Lt A.M Yerima, had a faceoff over a parcel of land in dispute. The land allegedly belongs to former Chief of Naval Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo.

The faceoff saw the officer stopping Wike and his entourage from gaining access into the parcel of land in dispute. While Wike said the land in question was acquired wrongly and that ongoing work on it needed to stop, the officer on the other hand insisted the Minister and his entourage cannot step into the property as he was acting on an order.

This led to a faceoff with Wike hurling insults on the officer who was defiant.

The coalition of retired veterans of the Nigerian military had vowed that their members would mobilise and occupy the Ministry of the FCT in Abuja if the officer who said he was acting on a lawful order was punished in any way.

A new twist has emerged in Agege Local Government politics as Ganiu Obasa, son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has officially assumed office as the Chairman of Agege Local Government following the resignation of the former chairman, Hon. Tunde Azeez, popularly known as Disco, who stepped down citing health challenges.

Hon. Azeez, who reportedly resigned barely 100 days after taking the oath of office, had been on medical leave for several weeks, during which Ganiu Obasa served as acting chairman. His resignation has now paved the way for Ganiu to officially lead the council.

However, the development has sparked political controversy, with some party insiders alleging that the transition had been “pre-planned” from the outset.

According to these sources who spoke with Lagos Reporters, Speaker Mudashiru Obasa was said to have initially sought the party’s nomination for his son to contest as chairman, but the move was turned down. He was later said to have supported his political ally, Tunde Azeez, to secure the chairmanship ticket, while his son Ganiu was nominated as vice chairman.

Barely weeks after Azeez assumed office, he reportedly proceeded on health leave, leaving Ganiu in charge. Observers now believe his early resignation was part of a political arrangement to install Obasa’s son as council chairman.

Meanwhile, residents of Agege have commended Ganiu Obasa for his leadership style during his acting tenure, particularly in improving environmental sanitation and ensuring a cleaner environment a contrast, they say, to the administration of former chairman Alhaji Ganiyu Egunjobi, whom Azeez succeeded.

As Ganiu formally takes over the reins of leadership, attention now turns to how he will manage both governance and public perception in a council long known for its political intrigues.

Herbert Wigwe, along with his wife and their eldest son, tragically died in a helicopter crash in the United States in February 2024. Following the incident, several online reports alleged a family conflict concerning the vast estate left behind by the late banker.

According to those reports, the 90-year-old patriarch was said to be locked in a legal and emotional battle with Herbert’s children over control of his son’s assets.

In a recent interview with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Engineer Wigwe debunked the rumors, describing them as false and unfounded.

He said:

“How can I want to claim Herbert’s properties? Who is the best person to defend Herbert’s properties? The father or a friend? The Father at 90 years? My grandchildren are there! Haba! The Lagos State Government has commenced a formal investigation into allegations of financial misconduct involving a staff member of the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency, LASAA, accused of diverting official payments into a personal bank account.
The probe followed a public outcry on X, where a user alleged that payments meant for LASAA were being made into an individual’s Opay account.

The whistleblower, identified as @Bhadmoz (TrueBlue), claimed that customers were being charged N45,000, but issued receipts reflecting only N7,100.

The user tagged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, calling for immediate action.

In a swift response, Commissioner Wahab confirmed that the individual linked to the allegations is an employee of LASAA.

He directed that the staff member report to the agency’s headquarters for immediate disciplinary action.

“My attention has been drawn to a post alleging improper transaction practices involving a staff member of an agency under our ministry. I have instructed that the officer appear at the agency’s head office tomorrow to face disciplinary proceedings,” Wahab said.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to accountability, integrity, and transparency in public service, warning that unethical behaviour would not be tolerated.

“Let this serve as a strong warning, the Lagos State Government has zero tolerance for corruption or misconduct. We commend vigilant citizens who help expose such acts because maintaining transparency is a collective duty,” he added.

LASAA is the agency that regulates outdoor advertising and signage across the state to ensure compliance with government standard.

* *As EFCC records 7,000 convictions, recovers ₦500bn in 2 years

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has charged the Nigerian judiciary to remain steadfast, impartial, and incorruptible in dispensing justice, warning that the breakdown of any society begins when those entrusted with interpreting its laws become compromised.

He said his administration is committed to improving the welfare and working conditions of judicial officers, noting that recent remuneration reviews were part of a broader effort to strengthen judicial independence.

Speaking on Monday when he declared open the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and National Judicial Institute (NJI) Workshop for Justices and Judges in Abuja, President Tinubu, who was represented by his deputy, Vice President Kashim Shettima, said the moral foundation of the Nigerian nation rests squarely on the integrity of its judicial system.

"We draw our moral distinction as a people from the judiciary, and we owe it the reverence and autonomy to remain the last sanctuary of our collective conscience," President Tinubu said.

The President addressed growing public concerns about delayed adjudication in high-profile corruption cases while cybercrime matters are resolved more swiftly.

“The theme of this year’s workshop, Enhancing Justice in the Fight Against Economic and Financial Crimes, will resonate amongst many in this audience, coming at a time when conversation in the fight against corruption evokes anger over delayed adjudication of high-profile matters while cases involving cybercrime masterminds are determined with dispatch.

“There is also a certain level of consternation over decisions of courts in serious corruption matters that engender feelings that society is being left with the wrong end of the stick,” he said.



However, President Tinubu defended his administration's non-interference approach, stating: "There is no person or group who can accuse this administration of shielding political actors on account of their affiliation to this government or the political party. We have allowed both the judiciary and the anti-graft agencies to exercise their constitutional and statutory powers."

The President highlighted achievements in the anti-corruption drive, revealing that the EFCC "has recorded over seven thousand convictions in the first two years of my administration and recovered assets in excess of five hundred billion naira."

He added that the recovered proceeds are being channelled into social investment programmes, including the Students Loan and Consumer Credit Schemes.

Addressing the technological challenges facing the judiciary, President Tinubu noted the evolution from simple email evidence to complex blockchain analysis in financial crime cases.

"How does one do justice in a cryptocurrency fraud case except one is grounded in such matters? Learning and relearning is no longer a buzz phrase but an essential undertaking for continued relevance in this digital age," he said.

The President reminded judicial officers that corruption affects everyone equally: "Your vantage position on the Bench does not insulate you from the consequences of corruption. There are no special roads, hospitals, or communities for judges.

"A Nigeria free of corruption is possible if we all commit to doing what is right in our respective spheres of influence," President Tinubu said.

For her part, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) and Chairman of the Board of Governors of the National Judicial Institute (NJI), Hon. Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, maintained that the decisions of judicial officers have a profound impact on the growth and stability of Nigeria.

She charged judicial officers to be deliberate in applying the relevant constitutional tools at their disposal while exercising firm control over proceedings.

She emphasized that the strength of the judiciary lies in the trust reposed in judges by the Nigerian people, urging them to ensure that justice is neither delayed nor partial.

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, represented by the Chief Whip of the Senate, Mohammed Monguno, stressed that while corruption is an enemy of the state, the fight against it requires action from the legislature, a vigilant citizenry, and a courageous judiciary.

He assured that the National Assembly will continue to play its part in equipping law enforcement agencies to combat crime so that corruption finds no place to hide in Nigeria.

The Administrator of the NJI, B.A. Adejumo, stated that the gathering has become a significant milestone over the years in the quest to fight corruption, adding that “no nation can develop without tackling corruption.”

He called for continued collaboration between the EFCC, the judiciary, and the Institute to ensure that judicial officers remain abreast of the latest developments in the justice sector.

The Chairman of the EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, SAN, disclosed that the landmark decision of the Supreme Court, which upheld the Commission’s anti-corruption mandate, has further strengthened anti-corruption institutions.

“The record of 4,111 convictions and humongous asset recoveries could not have been achieved by a lazy or ineffective judiciary,” he added.
