PoliticsWhat President Buhari Told Lagos People About Ambode, Others by olajay86(op): 4:01pm On Apr 24, 2019
www.titopeblog.com/2019/04/what-president-buhari-told-lagos-people.html

President Muhammadu Buhari has told the people of Lagos State to commend their Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode.

Buhari noted that Ambode has performed satisfactorily and should be commended for his contributions to the growth and development of the State.

The President also thanked the people of the State for their support for the All Progressives Congress, APC-led government.

President Buhari spoke during the commissioning of the Oshodi Transport Interchange, Murtala Mohammed International Airport Road and Public Transportation Buses on Wednesday.

He said, “I am delighted to be here today to commission three key projects that reflect the drive and success of our Administration as we pursue policies and programmes that will positively impact on our citizens.

“The new Oshodi Transport Interchange; the Mass Transit Medium and High capacity public buses and the reconstructed Murtala Mohammed International Airport Road by Lagos State Government clearly demonstrate the need to continue to provide high impact projects for the development of infrastructure and opportunities for job creation at all levels.

“Just as this transport interchange with three different terminals is going to change the face of public transportation, the mass transit buses totaling 820 will move the people of Lagos State in a more comfortable and more efficient manner.

“These projects by Lagos State are perfectly aligned with the efforts of the Federal Government to improve the country’s infrastructure especially in the transport sector.

“To compliment the Oshodi transport Interchange, the Federal Government has recently approved the reconstruction of the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway up to Oworonshoki and Old-Toll gate which was last attended to, 40 years ago.

“We have recently commissioned the new International Airport Terminals in Port Harcourt and Abuja as well as the rail lines from Abuja to Kaduna.

“The Lagos to Ibadan rail line is under construction. Our government will continue to prioritise high impact infrastructure which will vastly improve the lives of our people.

“This is my second working visit to Lagos state within a span of one year. I was also here in February to solicit for your votes. I thank you for supporting me. Earlier this morning, I commissioned Ayinke House at the Institute of Maternal & Child Health and also the Lagos Theatre in Oregun.

“Your Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has performed satisfactorily and we should all commend him for his contributions to the growth and development of Lagos State.

“I want to once again thank all the people of Lagos State for their support for our government and our party.

“It is therefore with great pleasure that I commission the new Oshodi Transport Interchange, the Mass Transit Buses and the Murtala Mohammed International Airport road.”

PoliticsOlateru-olagbegi: Tinubu Speaks On Death Of Olowo Of Owo by olajay86(op): 6:02pm On Apr 23, 2019
http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/04/olateru-olagbegi-tinubu-speaks-on-death.html

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, has commiserated with the Olagbegi royal family, the Olowo-in-Council and the people of Owo, over the demise of the Olowo of Owo, Oba Folagbade Olateru-Olagbegi.

The Ondo State Government had on Thursday announced the death of Oba Olateru-Olagbegi.

Reacting, Tinubu said Olateru-Olagbegi died when his wise counsel and peace initiatives were required.

In a condolence message signed by his Media Aide, Tunde Rahman, the former Lagos State Governor also commiserated with Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, over the monarch’s death, saying “the prime traditional ruler died when his wise counsel and peace initiatives not only in ancient Owo town but across Yorubaland were still required.”

According to Tinubu: “I commiserate with the Olagbegi Royal Family, the Olowo-in-Council and the people of Owo over the demise of Oba Folagbade Olateru-Olagbegi. I also offer my condolences to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

“Oba Olateru-Olagbegi was a highly respected traditional ruler who contributed immensely to the peace and development of Owo kingdom and Ondo State. He loved his people and the Yoruba race dearly.

“A man of peace, he was reputed for his peace initiatives and bridge-building efforts. He was also unmistakable in his outward appearance. Oba Olateru-Olagbegi was distinctively Yoruba in shape and form.

“He carried himself with dignity and grace commensurate with the magnificence of the traditional stool he occupied. For as the capital of Yoruba city-state between 1400 and 1600 AD, Owo occupied an enviable place in Yoruba traditional history. The pioneer Olowo of Owo was the direct descendant of Oduduwa, the progenitor of the Yoruba race.

“Owo has also produced great sons and daughters, which included the last President of Egbe Omo Oduduwa and Second Republic governor of Ondo State, Chief Michael Ajasin.

“Oba Olateru-Olagbegi’s wise counsel will be deeply missed not only by the Olowo-in-Council and the Owo people but also by the Yoruba across the country and beyond.

“I wish the soul of our late monarch eternal rest. May the Olagbegi family, the people of Owo and indeed all of us find the strength to continue where he has stopped.”

PoliticsLagos Guber: I’m Confident Of Victory At Tribunal – Sanwo-olu by olajay86(op): 3:47pm On Apr 23, 2019
http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/04/lagos-guber-im-confident-of-victory-at.html

Lagos State Governor-elect, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday said that he was confident of victory at the Lagos State Gubernatorial Electoral Petition Tribunal.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Sanwo-Olu expressed the optimism when he came to the tribunal sitting at the Ikeja High Court Complex, to sign a response to two petitions challenging his victory at the March 9 governorship poll.

The petitions were filed by Chief Owolabi Salis of the Alliance for Democracy and Prof. Ifagbemi Awamaridi of the Labour Party.

Sanwo-Olu arrived at the premises at 11.14am alongside the Deputy Governor-elect, Mr Obafemi Hamzat.

After the signing, the governor-elect told NAN: “What we came here to do is to put an official deposition to the challenge by two gubernatorial candidates.

“We are certainly confident because Lagosians have spoken, the people went out on March 9 to cast their votes.

“It was devoid of any form of incident, there was not one incident reported officially. We trust that the tribunal will do its job well and Lagosians will be happy.”

Sanwo-Olu said that it was the duty of the tribunal to determine if the petitions had any merit.

“It is a process that all of us must submit ourselves to; that is why we are here today, and we are confident that the tribunal will do its job well,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu promised that his administration would undertake judicial reforms for speedy administration of justice.

“Lagos has championed judicial reforms in the last 20 years, and my administration will not be different.

“We will still take bold steps to reform to better the entire process because we understand the importance of the sector,” he said.

Mr Abiodun Owonikoko (SAN), the head of Sanwo-Olu’s legal team, told NAN that he was also confident of victory for the governor-elect at the tribunal.

“We are working based on the facts on ground; we have been able to review the two petitions, and we are not in any kind of doubt that we have sufficient and credible answers to all the allegations in the petitions.

“Until today, his excellency (Sanwo-Olu) was not served any petition. The APC was served but he personally came to the tribunal today to sign for his own process.

“Immediately he signed, he filed a reply. This is to show that we are prepared for these petitions, and we have no problem about the eventual outcome.

“The job of the governor-elect is to defend the election and protect the mandate of the electorate; that is what he came here to do,” Owonikoko said.

The Lagos State Government has stated that preparations are in top gear to host President Muhammadu Buhari on his official visit to the state on Wednesday.

This was announced in a statement issued by the state Ministry of Information and Strategy on Tuesday in Lagos.

It said that during the one-day working visit, a number of state projects would be commissioned by the President.

“The projects to be commissioned include the rehabilitated 10-lane Oshodi/Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road, and the 170-Bed ‘Ayinke House’ (Maternity Hospital) at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Ikeja.

“Other projects to be commissioned include the Lagos State Theatre at Oregun in Ikeja, new 820 Mass Transit buses and the multi-level Oshodi Transport Interchange on the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway.

“`The Presidential visit would hold between 9.00 am and 3.00 pm on Wednesday, during which traffic on some routes will be diverted in order to ensure a free flow of traffic,’’ it said.

According to the statement, the routes to be affected by traffic control include the Mobolaji Bank-Anthony Way (coming from the Presidential wing of Murtala Muhammed Airport to LASUTH under bridge); Kodesoh Road; Obafemi Awolowo Way; Kudirat Abiola Way and Ikorodu Road (between the Ojota Intersection and Anthony Interchange).

Other routes are the Oworonshoki-Apapa Expressway (between Anthony and Oshodi Transport Interchange) and the International Airport road through the Local Wing of the airport to Mobolaji Bank-Anthony Way and back to the Obafemi Awolowo Way.

“Roads highlighted above shall only be cordoned-off when necessary, Obafemi Awolowo Way and portions of Mobolaji Bank-Anthony shall be closed to traffic on three occasions within the specified period, as they are central to the President’s itinerary,’’ it said.

The statement, therefore, advised motorists to avoid the above-listed roads where necessary and make use of alternative routes of their choice.

It advised that where motorists find it unavoidable plying the afore-mentioned roads, patience and cooperation with traffic managers should be their watchwords.

It solicited for the support of motorists and commuters for all inconveniences as a result of the diversions, saying that traffic managers, enforcement and security agents will be positioned at all strategic intersections to allow orderly vehicular movements.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State, on Wednesday said the supplementary poll in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency would hold on April 27.

The commission fixed the date after complying with a court order directing it to announce results of the Feb. 23 election in the constituency at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the commission’s office located in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Secretariat, NAN reports.

Prof. Olusoji Ilori, the INEC Returning Officer for the federal constituency had declared the Feb. 23 election inconclusive.

Ilori, an academic from the University of Lagos, reeled out the scores of each political party in the election, and said that the margin between the leading candidate, Mrs Rita Orji, candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his closest opponent, Mr Kolawole Taiwo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), necessitated the supplementary election.

He said that the PDP candidate polled 31, 982 votes, while Mr Kolawole Taiwo of the APC scored 28, 758 votes.

Ilori said that the difference between PDP and APC was 3224.

He said that the total registered voters for the affected 71 polling units across eight wards in the constituency where cancellation occurred remained 43, 660.

Announcing the date of the supplementary election, Mr Afred Akpojotor, the INEC Electoral Officer for the council, said that the poll would hold on April 27 in the affected areas.

“I have been directed by my Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) to announce that the commission has fixed Saturday April 27 for the supplementary election in all those affected polling units,” he said.

He said that the results of the supplementary elections would be added to the already collated results for the winner to emerge.

In his reaction, Mr Charles Ejimadu, the Director-General of the Rita Orji Campaign Organisation, described the process as “unfortunate”, claiming that the results for 67 out of 71 affected polling units were available.

“We have 67 of those results. It is under our custody and when the time comes, we shall bring out our facts.

“Of course, we won in the major election, rerun will not be an issue, but we are saying there shouldn’t have been any need for the rerun because we have a clear valid win from our own collation that we have.

‘When the time comes, we will bring out the fact for the whole world to know,” Ejimadu told journalists.

Also speaking, Mr Fatia Ajidagba, an APC chieftain and the Executive Chairman, Ifelodun Local Council Development Area told newsmen that APC would prepare adequately for the supplementary poll and that the party would emerge victorious.

He said the portal “is a user-friendly one that prospective applicants from all parts of the country and even outside Nigeria can log in to submit applications and upload documents.

“The URL is vacancy.customs.gov.ng, the specific requirements established for the vacancies.

“I want to reiterate that the portal for this exercise can only be accessed through the official service web site, where no fees will be demanded,” he said.

The five suspended Imo House of Assembly members have been readmitted back to the House.

According to Vanguard, the Speaker, Acho Ihim, at about 1:48 pm announced that all issues surrounding their suspension have been resolved.

The lawmakers affected were Ifeanyi Nnataraonye (Mbaitoli) Uche Oguwuike (Ikeduru) Donatus Onuigwe (Oru West) Chiji Collins (Isiala Mbano) and Nkenna Nzeruo (Oru east).

Last week, the member representing Nkwerre state constituency, Chika Madumere, had raised a point of order appealing to fellow members to support him in the move to ensure that the suspended colleagues return to the House.

PoliticsEkiti: PDP Lawmaker Bags Six-week Suspension For Interrupting Speaker by olajay86(op): 5:01pm On Apr 16, 2019
http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/04/ekiti-pdp-lawmaker-bags-six-week.html

The Ekiti House of Assembly on Tuesday banned former Deputy Speaker and member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Segun Adewumi, representing Ekiti West constituency 1, for six weeks for alleged legislative misconduct.

The suspension of the former Deputy Speaker was attributed to undue interruption of the Speaker, Hon Adeniran Alagbada, while presiding over the House at the plenary on Tuesday.

Following altercation between the two high-profile members of the legislative arm, the Speaker was said to have exercised his powers and banned him in accordance with section 17 of the house’s standing order.

According to the Speaker, the former Deputy Speaker during the period on suspension will be prevented from participating in any plenary session, but could only be involved in off-plenary activities of the house.

“I am still the presiding officer of this house and it constitutes an infraction for any member to interrupt me when I preside, except you have an observation to make.

“But with what transpired today, it seems Hon. Adewumi did not make any observation but only wanted to stall this proceeding and he is hereby banned for six weeks”.

Other lawmakers, in their submissions, agreed, with the action, saying the Speaker didn’t circumvent the constitution and standing order in meting out the punitive measure on Adewumi.

After the pronouncement, the lawmaker was said to have been ushered out of the hallowed chambers by the sergeant-at-arms.

Discussing other issues of public importance after the initial snag, a bill for a law to repeal Ekiti state official logo amendment law number 28 of 2014 and to re-enact Ekiti state government official logo law 2011 was passed by the Assembly.

The bill, which passed through the first reading, was subjected to the second reading where it was debated by members and consequently passed through the third reading.

Also, the Ekiti state development and investment promotion Agency Bill 2019 also passed through the first reading and committed to another legislative day for further legislative processes.

However, the screening and confirmation of some political appointees at the House fixed for today was shifted on the request of the Executive.

Fayemi cautioned them from engaging in negative vices capable of damaging the image of the NYSC scheme built over the years.

The Governor encouraged them to respect the values and culture of the people of the State.

According to Fayemi, this service year would broaden your perception about life and prepare you to adequately face the challenges of service and post service.

Earlier in her speech, the Ekiti State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Emmanuella Okpongete, explained that the orientation course featured activities that instilled the spirit of hard work, discipline, leadership qualities and skills in the corps members.

Mrs Okpongete commended the State government for restoring power supply to the camp and for supporting the scheme with one million, five hundred thousand Naira for feeding.

The NYSC chief explained that the foundation of the five-room office building was laid last year to replace the dilapidated building which was pulled down to give room for the new one.

According to Mrs. Okpongete, a total number of 2,003 corps members participated in the 2019 Batch A orientation course.

EducationFG Speaks On Postponement Of NECO Exam by olajay86(op): 5:38pm On Apr 12, 2019
http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/04/fg-speaks-on-postponement-of-neco-exam.html

The Federal Ministry of Education has called on states, local governments and religious organisations to embark on intensive sensitisation in order to bring more pupils on board in its NECO examination.

Minister of Education Adamu Adamu made this known in Abuja on Friday during the 12th Edition of the ministerial press briefing.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the National Examination Council (NECO) postponed the date of examination from April 13 to April 27.

Adamu, who was represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mr Sonny Echono, said the postponement of the examination was necessitated by the poor number of pupils that registered for it.

He said that some states had as low as 200 applicants for the 2019 examinations.

Adamu added that so far, 69,568 candidates had registered for the 2019 NECO examinations into unity schools, while insisting that the ministry hopes to meet the target of 80,000 applicants.

The National Examination Council (NECO) is responsible for the conduct of the National Common Entrance Examination into unity schools across the country; candidates who registered in the 2018 exercise stood at 71,294 as against 80,421 in 2017.

“National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) originally billed to hold tomorrow Saturday, 13th April, 2019 has been postponed by two weeks, the new date for the examination is now Saturday, 27th April, 2019.

“Regrettable as it were, the postponement has become necessary due to request from over seven states of the Federation who have asked for an extension of time to enable them to enrol more candidates.

“Some of the states have less than 200 applicants enrolled for the examination and as such may not be able to fill their quota if not given the opportunity to enrol more candidates.

“Records available to me from NECO indicate that only 69,568 candidates had registered to sit for the examination, hence, the need for an extension of time for more registration,’’ he said.

Adamu said that the website for the registration would be closed on April 25.

He added that this would enable candidates register on the day of the examination, provided they have made payment and obtained their PIN on or before the closing date.

PoliticsCourt Rules On Buhari Minister, Shittu’s NYSC Certificate Saga by olajay86(op): 5:19pm On Apr 12, 2019
http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/04/court-rules-on-buhari-minister-shittus.html

Justice P.I. Ajoku of a Federal High Court in Ibadan, on Friday struck out a suit filed by Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, against the All Progressives Congress (APC) for excluding his name from the list of gubernatorial aspirants in the March 9, general elections over his inability to present his NYSC certificate.

NAN reports that Shittu who was screened out of the APC governorship primaries in Oyo state for not having the mandatory NYSC certificate, filed the suit marked FHC/IB/CS/111/2018..

In her ruling, Ajoku said that the case was struck out due to the fact that Shittu did not file the case within the time stipulated by law.

“I must first consider the provision of Section 285 of the constitution that makes it mandatory for all pre-election matters to be filed within 14 days of occurrence.

“This particular case was not filed within 14 days, but outside the date.

“Therefore, I will not bother going into the merit of the case.

“Haven’t failed to satisfy the dictates of the constitution, the matter is hereby, struck out,” the Judge ruled.

In his reaction to the ruling , the defence counsel, Mr Adebayo Ojo, who was the former Attorney-General and Commissioner for justice , Oyo State , said that the law has taken its due course.

“The judge acted by the 1999 constitution and it is a victory for democracy,” Ojo said.

NAN reports that the plaintiff’s counsel, Mr Abdulhakeem Mustafa, (SAN) had tendered a 38 paragraph affidavit and 13 exhibits to support his claims.

Shittu had prayed the court to determine whether the action of his party to omit his name in the list of gubernatorial aspirants was lawful or a contravention of the constitution.

Joined as respondent in the matter is the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

NAN reports that the minister, who is also a member of the APC, claimed that APC’s national leadership omitted his name in the list of its gubernatorial aspirants for the primaries in Oyo State because he did not participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.

He among all other things, urged the court to determine whether the ground for disqualifying his client was lawful or a contravention of the constitution.

Mustafa argued that the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria required anyone seeking to be a state governor to possess a maximum of Senior Secondary School Certificate and not necessarily an NYSC certificate.

CrimeBillionaire Kidnapper: Court Issues Fresh Order To Evans, Three Others by olajay86(op): 3:29pm On Apr 11, 2019
http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/04/billionaire-kidnapper-court-issues.html

Justice Hakeem Oshodi of an Ikeja High Court has ordered suspected kidnap kingpin, Chukwudimeme Onwuamadike alias Evans and three other defendants, to ensure they have legal representation by June 14.

Evans is standing trial alongside Uche Amadi, Ogechi Uchechukwu, Chilaka Ifeanyi, Okwuchukwu Nwachukwu and Victor Aduba, over the alleged kidnap of the Chief Executive Officer of Maydon Pharmaceutical Limited, Mr Donatius Dunu.

NAN reports that the six were arraigned on August 30, 2017 on two counts of conspiracy and kidnapping. According to the prosecution, they allegedly kidnapped Dunu and collected 223,000 Euros (N100m) as ransom. Evans and his co-defendants had pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

At the resumption of the trial on Thursday, proceeding was stalled due to the absence of defence counsel for Evans, Amadi, Uchechukwu and Ifeanyi.

Following the development, Justice Oshodi mandated Evans and the three other defendants to ensure they have legal representation by June 14, the next adjourned date.

The judge also directed that counsel from the Office of the Public Defender (OPD) should be in court on the next adjourned date to represent the defendants in case they failed to get counsel to represent them in court.

“If on the next day, the defence counsel are not around, the courts will order the defendants to either represent themselves or the court invokes Section 233(3) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law.

“The prosecution shall also notify the Office of the Public Defender (OPD) to be in court on the next adjourned date.
“This case is adjourned to June 14 for the continuation of the evidence of PW4,” Justice Oshodi said.

Earlier during proceedings, Mr Emmanuel Ochai, the defence counsel, representing Aduba (sixth defendant), told the court that other kidnap trials involving Evans have been stalled in other courts for the same reason.

“We were before your learned brother yesterday at the High Court in Igbosere and we had the same issue.

“Due to the absence of the counsel to the first (Evans) and fourth (Ifeanyi) defendants here, the matter was stalled.

“I really do not know why there is no legal representation but we as counsel to the sixth defendant (Aduba) are ready to proceed,” Ochai said.

Mr A. A Uzokwu, the counsel to the fifth defendant (Nwachukwu), also told the court that they were ready to proceed but were handicapped because of the absence of the other defence counsel.

“What is happening now is like they are like a stationary vehicle, some of us are behind and that stationary vehicle and because it is not moving, we cannot move,” he said.

When asked why he had no legal representation, Evans told the court “I did not communicate with him”.

Amadi, Uchechukwu and Ifeanyi also told the court that they had not communicated with their defence counsel.

Reacting to the absence of the defence counsels for the first to fourth defendants, Mr Y.G Oshoala, a Director in the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), asked the court to appoint counsel for the defendants.

“My Lord, yesterday we were before your learned brother Justice Akintoye at the Igbosere High Court.

“The case was adjourned and that was the third adjournment granted by that court at the instance of the first defendant (Evans).

“It is a game they are playing and I pray the court assist the state and invoke Section 233(3) of the ACJL which allows the court to appoint counsel for the defendants in these circumstances.

“We brought our witness from out of jurisdiction or if the defendants so wish, they can defend themselves, it is their constitutional right,” Oshoala said.

A policeman and the fourth prosecuting witness, Insp Idowu Haruna, was in court to testify in the proceedings that were eventually stalled.

NYSCNYSC DG Issues Stern Warning To Corps Members by olajay86(op): 2:35pm On Apr 11, 2019
http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/04/nysc-dg-issues-stern-warning-to-corps.html

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Maj.-Gen. Suleiman Kazaure, on Thursday warned corps members in Taraba State against going for swimming and other forms of social events without approval by the authorities.

Kazaure gave the warning during a visit to the NYSC 2019 Batch `A’ corps members’ orientation camp in Jalingo.

The NYSC boss, represented by the Director, Community Development and Special Projects, Mr Steve Ehoda, said the safety of corps members was of paramount importance to the service.

“When you leave camp for your primary assignments in various places, you are not expected to do things just the way you want.

“You are to continue to live within the rules of the service for your safety.

“No swimming and no travelling without due permission from the authorities so that you don’t get into trouble,” he said.

He urged the corps members to take advantage of the training in various trades by experts on the camp to make life more meaningful for them in future.

Kazaure told the corps members that as soon as the government approved new minimum wage, their allowances would also be reviewed.

He urged the state government and security agents to continue to ensure the safety of corps members.

Earlier, Mrs Florence Yaakugh, the NYSC State Coordinator, mentioned the achievements of the state office including renovation of toilets, beds and hostels, among others, for the comfort of corps members.

Yaakugh, however, told the director-general that government should urgently construct a perimeter fence around the female hostels to ensure their privacy.

She commended the Taraba Government for its cooperation toward enhancing the effectiveness of the service in the state.

Yaakugh also commended the corps members for being of good behaviour at the orientation camp.

CareerN-power: Beneficiaries To Be Paid Their March Stipend This Week by olajay86(op): 2:18pm On Apr 11, 2019
The Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Job Creation and Youth Empowerment, Afolabi Imoukhuede, on Thursday assured beneficiaries of the N-Power scheme that they would get their March stipend this week.

Imoukhuede gave the assurance on in Abuja, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN.

The N-Power Scheme is linked with the Federal Government’s economic, employment and social development policies.

It addresses the challenges of youth unemployment by providing a structure for large scale and relevant work skills acquisition and development, that would stimulate the economy.

The N-Power volunteer corps involves massive deployment of 500,000 trained graduates who will assist to improve the inadequacies in public services in education, health and civic education.

NAN reports that the batch one beneficiaries of the scheme were getting agitated by the Federal Government’s delay in paying their March stipend.

They felt it was a ploy by the Federal Government to exit them from the programme.

NAN reports that the beneficiaries usually get their stipend on the 30th day of the month, but since March till now, nothing was heard from the management of N-Power on its communication platform.

Imoukhuede said that the beneficiaries would get their stipend this week, adding that there was no need to panic as the Federal Government was addressing the issue.

He blamed the delay on the Ministry of Finance and the Accountant General’s Office, adding that some issues were being sorted out.

He said contrary to insinuations that it was an attempt to exit the batch one beneficiaries from the programme, the batch two of the beneficiary who were enlisted few months ago into the programme had equally not been paid.

“It is not as if we had paid batch two and we did not pay batch one, there is a delay and I think the government has been consistent in payment.

“The issues are being worked out between the Ministry of Finance and the Accountant General’s Office, and once these are resolved, the beneficiaries will get their stipend.

“I am sure, this week it will be resolved,” he assured.

The Akinlade Mandate Group (AMG) on Wednesday lambasted the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Ogun governor-elect, Dapo Abiodun.

A statement by Adeolu Adekoya, its Publicity Secretary, accused them of deliberately stalling the suit challenging their victory in court.

“We have observed that Prince Dapo Abiodun and the APC are trying to halt a process constitutionally applicable for us to fight our case via the tribunal and the judicial system”, it read.

“They have deliberately avoided appearing at the tribunal twice (1st and 9th April, 2019), feigning ignorance and giving excuses not to appear at both times.

“Our very simple question is: If the party and their candidate are already not jittery and busy looking for means to cover up their misdeeds; if their acclaimed victory is gotten through a free and fair election process, why not allow the proceedings at the tribunal go on smoothly?

“We shall not be discouraged by such flimsy acts, but instead stand our grounds to ensure that justice is done and at the appropriate time too.

“The next sitting of the tribunal has been scheduled for Monday, 15th April, 2019. We shall be willing to have the answers to our questions.

“We restate our commitment to continually take all necessary steps as well as monitor all processes and proceedings to ensure that the mandate freely given to Hon Adekunle Akinlade of the APM by the good people of Ogun State in the last Gubernatorial and State Assembly elections through the ballot is gotten back,” they added.

PoliticsCourt Sacks Delta Senator-elect, Nwaoboshi by olajay86(op): 5:55pm On Apr 03, 2019
http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/04/court-sacks-delta-senator-elect.html

A Federal High Court in Abuja, Wednesday, sacked the Senator-elect representing Delta North Senatorial District, Peter Nwaoboshi.

Justice Ahmed Mohammed in a Judgment held that Nwaoboshi who is a serving senator was not the winner of the October 2, 2018 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP’s) primary held to select candidate for the 2019 general election.

Justice Mohammed subsequently ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish the name of Ned Nwoko as candidate of the PDP, having established the fact before the court that Nwoko scored majority of the lawful votes at the primary election.

The court also ordered Nwaoboshi from parading himself as the candidate of the PDP for the senatorial zone.

Nwoko through his counsel Ahmed Raji SAN, had dragged INEC, PDP and the sacked senator before the court praying for an order to stop INEC from publishing or further publishing the name of Senator Nwaoboshi as the candidate for Delta North Senatorial District.

Nwoko also asked for another order compelling the PDP to forward his name to INEC as the authentic candidate of the party for the senatorial district in the 2019 general election.

The plaintiff predicated his suit on seven grounds which was supported by a 20 paragraph affidavit evidence and five exhibits, claiming that he was screened and cleared for the Delta North Senatorial District by the PDP Electoral Committee.

He claimed among others that at the end of the primary election he scored 453 votes to defeat his closest rival, Peter Nwaoboshi who scored 405 while Paul Osaji came third with 216 votes.

Nwoko, however, claimed that to his surprise, the PDP jettisoned the result of the primary election and forwarded Nwaoboshi’s name as its candidate for the Senatorial District.

He disclosed that all efforts to redress the injustice through the party’s appeal panel were unsuccessful.

In their defense, the respondents attacked the suit of the plaintiff on the grounds that it was statute barred since it was not filed within the 14 days provided for by law.

They also claimed that the suit constituted an abuse of court process since the plaintiff had earlier filed a similar suit at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court which was struck out.

However, delivering Judgment, the court held that the case of the plaintiff was not statute barred and did not also amount to forum shopping.

According to Justice Mohammed, the plaintiff’s case is not against the conduct of the October 2, 2018 primary but the continuous display of the name of the third defendant (Nwaoboshi) as candidate of the PDP for the senatorial zone for the purpose of the 2019 general election.

Justice Mohammed said he was satisfied with the Certified True Copies (CTC) of the ballot papers used for the primary election and made available to the court by the plaintiff to establish his case.

The judge observed that the PDP though disputed the claims of Nwoko on the ballot papers, he said the same PDP, however, failed to produce ballot papers used for the election when ordered to do so in December, 2018.

Subsequently, Justice Mohammed having held that the plaintiff have established that he was winner of the October 2, 2018 primary is entitled to his claim and consequently granted the relief sought by Nwoko.

The court earlier dismissed preliminary objections filed by the defendants, including that on jurisdiction.

It also gave all the parties up to April 15, for the adoption of written addresses, determination of pending applications and to fix a date for judgement.

This development followed the submission by the defence counsel, Chris Uche, SAN, who announced the decision of the defence to close his case.

He said, “After a very deep review and consideration, we have taken a decision to close our case. This is pursuant to paragraph 14, of the practice direction of this tribunal. We apply to file our final written addresses.

“The written address will entail all the tribunal’s proceedings. We, therefore, apply that the tribunal makes available to us the April 1, proceedings.

“We are asking for 14 days to allow us prepare our final written address”.

In his reaction, prosecution counsel, Aliyu Umar who did not object to the submission of the defence counsel also asked for time to file his own written address.

CCT chairman, Danladi Umar in his response resolved to allow the defence counsel from April 4 to 8, within which to submit his written address while the prosecution counsel was granted from April 9 to 11, to also submit his written address.

It would also be recalled that one of the pending applications is seeking for the tribunal chairman to excuse himself following an allegation of bias while the other is challenging the tribunal’s jurisdiction to handle the matter in question.

But the tribunal chairman said after the adoption of the written addresses from the parties, the tribunal will subsequently fix a date to determine the lingering applications and judgment.
