The people of Burkina Faso must “forget” about democracy, said the country’s junta ruler on Thursday in an interview broadcast on national television.

Captain Ibrahim Traore took over in a September 2022 coup after toppling another junta and has since sharply muzzled dissenting voices.

The military government dissolved the country’s electoral commission last year, and then, in February, the junta-led parliament dissolved all political parties, whose activities had been suspended since 2022.

“We’re not even talking about elections, first of all,” Traore said in the interview with state broadcaster RTB.

People need to forget about the issue of democracy. Democracy isn’t for us.”

The country’s stated transition to democratic rule, initiated after the first coup in January 2022, was scheduled to end in July 2024.

But the junta that year decided to extend the transition period by five years, allowing Traore to remain at the helm of the country, plagued by jihadist violence that has claimed thousands of lives for nearly 10 years.

The United Nations has urged Burkina to reverse the decision to ban political parties and stop the repression of civic space.

Since coming to power, the junta, which is hostile to Western countries and particularly France, has banned or suspended numerous international media outlets and expelled some of their journalists.

On Wednesday, March 25, Inibehe Effiong, lawyer to the family of the late Ochanya, stated that Winifred, the daughter of Andrew Ogbuja, was named as a witness in the accusation against her father and brother but she has refused to cooperate.

This caused X users to slam Winifred. They also dug out a video of Ochanya stating that Winifred knew of the @buse as she caught her brother in the act.

Winifred has now responded. According to her, she was just 12 years old at the time and was in SS2 in a boarding school, so did not witness any abuse.

Reno Omokri Appreciates President Tinubu Over Appointment as Ambassador to Mexico

I sincerely thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for my ambassadorial posting. This is a man with a heart of gold, and as I have previously said, the President is a most Christlike individual, with the capacity to forgive and forbear. Nigeria could not have had a better leader for the present time and for the next five years, by the grace of God.

I accept this appointment and posting to the glory of God and for the betterment of Nigeria, even as I pledge my unalloyed loyalty to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the custodian of the Constitution and the Head of State of Nigeria.

I once again thank my foster parents, Esijolomi and Omerewumi, who moulded me, as a piece of clay they received from God, into what I am today.

Other than God, NO OTHER HUMAN BEINGS have been more responsible for making me into what I am today than these two angels, who in my mother tongue are referred to as my Olayemi.

I thank my biological parents, both of whom are now deceased, Bemigho and Ochuko, through whom I came into this world. Even in death, I love you both.

I thank my wife, Hana, who has filled me with such peace of mind since I met her, and has been an encourager and nurturer.

May God bless my friend who sticks closer than a brother, Malam Nuhu Ribadu. Although I have said this publicly before, let me repeat it today. This is not hyperbole to me. If it were possible for all the goodness on Earth to be domiciled in a single human being, that person would be Malam.

He is blind to religion, region, communion and ethnicity—a credit to Nigeria and humanity. Through him, God made it possible for me to be a Presidential spokesman. And today, without saying much, what I have left unsaid says it all.

It is most fitting that this posting to the United Mexican States comes as I begin the six-day climb to Mount Kilimanjaro to hoist Nigeria's flag on the summit of Africa's highest mountain.

As I take each step, I am reminded of how God, in His infinite mercies, has used President Bola Tinubu to reposition Nigeria for greatness, such that in 2025, as recently revealed by both the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, Nigeria, a country with just 2% of the world's population, was the sixth greatest contributor to global GDP.

Nigeria is rising under the present administration, as demonstrated by the hosting of the largest single tourist event in Africa in 2025, Detty December, which attracted 1.2 million tourists to Nigeria in December 2025 alone, without a single death, robbery, or domestic incident.

A sign that, though we may have localised challenges, Nigeria is a safe and secure destination for your holiday and investments, as well as a politically stable nation, and the only country in Africa where five former Presidents and Heads of State dwell in peace within the country with the incumbent President.

I devote my life again and afresh to Nigeria to be faithful, loyal, and honest and to serve and market Nigeria to the best of my ability, so help me God.

The Ministry of Education has clarified reports surrounding the Federal Executive Council’s decision on Wednesday to amend the Act governing the Nigerian Postgraduate Medical College, stating that the move does not equate a Doctor of Philosophy degree with a medical fellowship.

The clarification followed widespread reports suggesting that the government had approved medical fellowships as equivalent to PhD degrees.

However, in a statement issued on Thursday by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, the ministry said the decision had been widely misinterpreted in some sections of the media, prompting the need for clarification.

According to the statement, the Minister of Education, Maruf Alausa, explained that the approval granted by the FEC under President Bola Tinubu only allows the Nigerian Postgraduate Medical College to seek accreditation from the National Universities Commission to award PhD degrees in relevant medical and research disciplines

Alausa said the approval was meant to expand the academic mandate of the college rather than alter the status of medical fellowship qualifications.

“The approval granted by Council under the leadership of Bola Ahmed Tinubu enables the College to seek accreditation from the National Universities Commission to award Doctor of Philosophy degrees in relevant medical and research disciplines,” he said.

He noted that some reports had suggested that a PhD would replace or be regarded as equivalent to a fellowship in medicine, describing such interpretations as incorrect.

“The development has been widely misinterpreted in some reports as suggesting that a PhD degree would replace or be considered equivalent to a medical fellowship. This interpretation is incorrect,” Alausa stated.

According to the minister, a medical fellowship remains a distinct and higher professional qualification required for specialist clinical practice and is awarded to physicians who complete rigorous residency training and other postgraduate medical education requirements.

He said the council’s decision simply broadens the institution’s academic role, allowing it — once accredited by the National Universities Commission — to run doctoral research programmes in addition to its existing responsibility of awarding fellowships to qualified physicians.

Under the proposed framework, doctors undergoing postgraduate medical training may have the option of combining their fellowship programmes with a structured doctoral research pathway.

In the statement, the minister clarified that “medical fellowship remains a distinct and higher professional qualification in clinical practice, awarded to physicians who have successfully completed rigorous residency training and other postgraduate medical education requirements required for specialist practice.

“The decision of the Federal Executive Council simply expands the academic mandate of the Nigerian Postgraduate Medical College.

“In addition to its long-standing responsibility of awarding professional fellowships to qualified physicians, the College will now be able — upon accreditation by the National Universities Commission — to offer PhD programmes for candidates who wish to pursue advanced academic research alongside their professional medical training.”

Officials say the arrangement is designed to strengthen Nigeria’s capacity for advanced medical research and academic medicine while preserving the integrity and prestige associated with professional medical fellowships.

The ministry explained that the clarification became necessary following misconceptions suggesting that a PhD qualification was being placed on the same level as a fellowship.

Instead, it said, “the reform introduces an additional academic pathway that complements the existing professional training structure.”

The ministry also stressed that the policy reflects the Federal Government’s effort to strengthen postgraduate medical education, expand opportunities for research and innovation, and align Nigeria’s specialist training framework with international standards.

It reassured the public, medical professionals and academic institutions that the approval would not diminish the value or status of medical fellowships in the country.

Rather, the ministry said the move represents a strategic step aimed at deepening academic scholarship within Nigeria’s medical training system and improving the country’s competitiveness in global medical research and education

No NERD, No NYSC — FG Announces New Rule

The Federal Government has made compliance with the Nigeria Education Repository and Data Bank (NERD) compulsory for participation in or exemption from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), tightening efforts to end certificate fra¥d.

Minister of Education, Maruf Alausa, announced the directive at a national programme on academic records integrity, describing NERD as a digital platform created to standardise and authenticate credentials across tertiary institutions.

“It is important to clarify that while NERD compliance is now a prerequisite for participation in, or exemption from, the National Youth Service Corps, enforcement extends far beyond NYSC,” he said.

He added that agencies such as the National Universities Commission, National Board for Technical Education, National Commission for Colleges of Education, TETFund and the Industrial Training Fund will require compliance before offering services.

Within four months, nearly 100,000 student records have been digitised, with over 250 institutions onboarded and more than 133,000 students enrolled.

Alausa also revealed that the government halted the trend of Nigerians acquiring fake degrees from unaccredited institutions abroad, especially in the Republic of Benin.

“Before President Tinubu came into government, there was a whistleblower who reported about Nigerians going to the Republic of Benin to study… That has been put to a complete stop. And all of those people that got those illegal certificates have all been thrown out of our civil service, public service.”

He vowed strict enforcement to eliminate credential falsification and safeguard the integrity of Nigeria’s education system.

President Tinubu directs suspension of cashless payment at airports

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, to suspend the cashless payment system recently introduced by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

Keyamo announced the president’s directive while briefing State House correspondents after a meeting of the Federal Executive Council, which held at the State House Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday, March 4.

Keyamo said the President directed him to “go back to the drawing board, suspend the present system and perfect a system that will work perfectly without putting unnecessary pressure on citizens.”

He said the president directed that a decision should be taken quickly “even if it means involving the private sector.”

“There will be a hybrid system for now whereby those who already possess cards will be allowed to use it while those who prefer cash will be allowed to do so. Private sector participants will come in to help us devise means to ensure cashless collection” the minister said

The FAAN cashless system commenced at the Lagos and Abuja airports this week but has led to long queues and delays for travellers going to the airport.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially sworn in Olatunji Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police (IGP). The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Wednesday, March 4.

The ceremony was witnessed by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Others present were the Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam; FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike; and Head of Service, Mrs Esther Walson-Jack and other cabinet members.

Immediately after Disu’s swearing-in, President Tinubu also swore in newly appointed commissioners of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission and the Federal Civil Service Commission.

The Nigeria Police Council on Monday, March 2, endorsed Disu, after his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Disu takes over from his predecessor, Kayode Egbetokun.

FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, stated that emergency officials were promptly deployed to the scene and are actively handling the situation.

He further disclosed that the agency’s emergency response team swiftly mobilised to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading, reassuring the public that no casualties were recorded in the incident.

“We are aware of the outbreak, and we are there right now. We will publish a statement right now. Our firefighting team is currently responding and working to curtail the situation. No loss of lives has been recorded. Further updates will be recorded,” he said.

Passengers and airport users have been advised to remain calm as officials work to fully extinguish the fire and assess the extent of damage to the facility.

“God saved us” — Tiktoker Peller cries out as new generator catches fire in his new house

Popular Tiktoker Peller has shared a scary incident that happened at his home early this morning.

The content creator revealed on Instagram that his newly purchased generator suddenly caught fire and nearly burnt down his new house.

According to him, it took over 30 minutes before the fire was finally put out.

He wrote:
