PoliticsActing INEC Chair Outlines Preparations For Anambra Poll by olajay86(op): 2:16pm On Oct 15, 2025
The Independent National Electoral Commission on Tuesday held its third quarterly consultative meeting with political party leaders in Abuja, where key updates on upcoming elections and party registration were presented.

The meeting was the first chaired by INEC’s Acting Chairman, May Agbamuche-Mbu, following the exit of former Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, on October 7.

In her opening remarks, Agbamuche-Mbu acknowledged the former chairman’s tenure, stating, “Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu gracefully bowed out of office, leaving behind a legacy of innovation, institutional strength and integrity.”

She outlined the commission’s schedule of elections, including the Anambra State Governorship Election on November 8, 2025, the Federal Capital Territory Area Council Elections on February 21, 2026, the Ekiti Governorship Election on June 20, 2026, and the Osun Governorship Election on August 8, 2026.

Speaking on the Anambra election, Agbamuche-Mbu said, “The commission has completed 10 of the 13 key activities,” adding that the final activities include the publication of the notice of poll on October 25, the end of the campaign period on November 6, and the election on November 8.

She stated that all non-sensitive materials had been delivered to the state and that voter education was ongoing.

The acting chairman said, “The commission is committed to keeping strictly to the remaining activities as detailed in the Timetable and Schedule of Activities. Political parties are therefore called upon to be mindful of the last day for campaigns and keep strictly to it.

“The commission has been working assiduously and making arrangements for the successful conduct of the Anambra State governorship election and has had several engagements with the security agencies at national, state and local government levels.

“All non-sensitive materials for the election have been delivered to the state, and voter education and sensitisation are ongoing.”

She also provided a report on the by-elections conducted on August 16 across 12 states, covering two senatorial districts, five federal constituencies, and nine state assembly constituencies, in addition to two court-ordered rerun elections in Enugu and Kano states.

“Declarations and return were made… and Certificates of Return have been presented in compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022,” she said.

Agbamuche-Mbu confirmed that the Continuous Voter Registration, which resumed nationwide in August, will continue until August 30, 2026.

She described the response to registration efforts as encouraging and said weekly updates are published on the INEC website.

On party registration, the acting chairman said the commission received 171 requests for registration of new political parties, but only 14 associations met the requirements to proceed to the next stage. These were evaluated based on constitutional and electoral law provisions.

In response, the National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, Dr. Yusuf Dantalle, welcomed Agbamuche-Mbu’s appointment, stating, “The nation will benefit from her impressive service record and wealth of experience at this moment in our democratic process.”

Dantalle said IPAC had recently submitted reform proposals to the National Assembly, including the scrapping of State Independent Electoral Commissions, transferring local government elections to INEC, reserving special seats for women, restoring public funding for political parties, and removing the President’s power to appoint INEC’s leadership.

He described the Anambra governorship election as a critical test for the commission.

“The litmus test of the new leadership is the conduct of the November 8, 2025, Anambra State governorship election.

“INEC should get its act together and get it right,” he said.

He added, “With new leadership, citizens’ expectations are high, very high. The commission should justify the confidence the nation reposed in it. This is the only way to rebuild trust in the electoral process.”

Dantalle concluded by expressing IPAC’s readiness to support the electoral process, saying, “We are all in it together to build a better, greater, inclusive, prosperous and just democratic society.”

Yakubu was first appointed as INEC Chairman by former President Muhammadu Buhari on October 21, 2015, and was confirmed by the Senate on October 28, 2015.

He became the first person to be reappointed to the position, earning a second term in November 2020—also under Buhari’s administration.

President Bola Tinubu, who assumed office in 2023, accepted Yakubu’s resignation and decorated him with the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger in recognition of his service.

On Thursday, the National Council of State approved Tinubu’s nomination of Professor Joash Amupitan as the new INEC Chairman. The appointment is now subject to Senate screening and confirmation.

Until then, Agbamuche-Mbu will continue to oversee the commission’s affairs as acting chairman.

INEC had earlier confirmed that 2.8 million voters are registered to participate in the Anambra election on Saturday, November 8, 2025.

The electoral body released the final list of candidates and announced the official commencement of campaign activities.

Sixteen political parties met the submission deadline of May 12 and will field candidates in the upcoming election.

PoliticsEkiti Guber: APC adopts Oyebanji as consensus candidate by olajay86(op): 9:23pm On Oct 14, 2025
The All Progressives Congress has adopted Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji as its consensus candidate for the 2026 governorship election in the state

The APC disclosed this as it announced its decision to switch the state primary election from a direct primary to a consensus mode.

This was contained in a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, on Tuesday.

Morka stated that the change followed the voluntary withdrawal of one of the two cleared aspirants, Mrs Atinuke Omolayo, who pulled out of the race and endorsed Oyebanji as the consensus choice.

“The All Progressives Congress announces its decision to now adopt the consensus mode for the conduct of its governorship primary election in Ekiti State.

“The change from the earlier indicated direct primary to consensus mode of primary was necessitated by the voluntary withdrawal of one of the two cleared aspirants, Mrs Atinuke Oluremi Omolayo.

“In a letter to the party, Mrs Omolayo conveyed her decision to withdraw from the contest and endorse His Excellency, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, as a consensus candidate, and expressed her support for any arrangement adopted by the party in nominating its flag bearer in accordance with the Electoral Act, 2022 and the party’s Constitution,” the statement said.

It said the party has satisfied the requirements of Sections 84(9) and (11) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which govern the use of consensus mode for primaries.

The party has also approved a timetable of activities to formalise the nomination.

Accordingly, the APC announced that delegate congress will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025.

The delegate congress appeal will be held on Sunday, October 26, while the special nomination congress to ratify the consensus candidate is scheduled for Monday, October 27, 2025.

SportsSport2026 WCQ: So Unfortunate They’re Now Using Calculator – Akpeyi Sympathises by olajay86(op): 7:36pm On Oct 12, 2025
Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi, has expressed sympathy for South Africa ahead of the final game of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Akpeyi finds it difficult to believe that Bafana Bafana supporters have now resorted to using calculators to determine the permutations that could see the team qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite the team’s hard work all along.

Bafana Bafana were on course to claim the automatic ticket for Group C, but it is now a different story following a major setback after the football governing body, FIFA, noticed that they had broken a regulation and deducted three points from their tally.

In their match against Lesotho, Bafana Bafana used an ineligible midfielder, Teboho Mokoena, who was on suspension.

They played out a goalless draw with Zimbabwe on Friday, and the result further deepened their chances of travelling to North America next year.

Speaking on SuperSport, Akpeyi, who is based in South Africa, said, “It’s quite unfortunate that after all the hard work Bafana Bafana have put into this campaign, they’ve reached a point where they need to bring out the calculator.

“It’s unfortunate that they could lose all of this at the very end, but there’s still a chance.

“We never know what will happen in the final games, so we’re still giving Bafana Bafana the benefit of the doubt.”

It will all end on Tuesday for Group C teams as Nigeria host Benin Republic in Uyo and Bafana Bafana welcome Rwanda in Mbombela.

Both Nigeria and South Africa must win their last games to stand any chance of qualification.

PoliticsYoung Nigerians Are Losing Hope In The Future Of The Country’ – Atiku Expresses by olajay86(op): 7:30pm On Oct 12, 2025
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed concerns that young Nigerians are losing hope in the country.

Atiku said he feels deeply sad over how young Nigerians are lamenting over hardship, fraudulent elections and bad governance.

Posting on his Facebook page, the former Vice President told the youths that the change they desire cannot be attained by voter apathy, noting that 25 percent to 30 percent voter turnout in every election cycle is not encouraging.

He wrote: “I am extremely concerned at how young Nigerians are losing hope about the future of our country.

“Every time they come to have a conversation with me about bad governance, fraudulent elections, and resultant hardship being faced by citizens, I deeply feel sad about the situation.

“Yesterday evening, I received yet another group of youths from across the 19 Northern states, led by Alh. Adamu Bappa Gombe.

“They were worried about how their votes don’t count and how bad governance and policies impact negatively on their standard of living and private businesses.

“I have continued to encourage them not to give up. I told them the change they desire can only come through the ballot. I reminded them that they have a responsibility to mobilize their fellow young people to keep participating in the process of leadership recruitment through elections.

“I reminded them that the change they desire cannot be attained by voter apathy and that 25% to 30% voter turnout in every election cycle is not encouraging. I challenged them to make a huge difference by influencing massive participation in 2027.

“On our part, we shall not relent until Nigeria is recovered from anti democratic forces.”

PoliticsAmupitan: Tinubu Not Visibilizing Northern Yorubas – Lagos APC Replies Farooq by olajay86(op): 7:24pm On Oct 12, 2025
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu is trying to ‘visiblize’ Northern Yorubas.

The party was reacting to a recent article by Farooq Kperogi, who said the appointment of Professor Joash Amupitan as the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, was part of Tinubu’s agenda to visiblize Northern Yorubas.

The Lagos APC described Kperogi’s claims as a mischievous spin on Tinubu’s “merit-based leadership”.

The spokesman of the state chapter of APC, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, said it is unfortunate that a respected academic like Kperogi continues to deploy his pen as an instrument of distortion and ethnic mischief rather than truth and reason.

In a statement he signed, Oladejo said: “The attention of the Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been drawn to yet another of Farooq Kperogi’s increasingly predictable essays titled “New INEC Boss and Tinubu’s Visibilization of Northern Yorubas.”

“Professor Kperogi’s piece is a tired rehash of the same ethnic reductionism that has long plagued Nigeria’s political discourse – the lazy assumption that every appointment by a Southern leader must have an ethnic or parochial undertone.

“For a man of supposed intellectual depth, it is disappointing that he conveniently ignores the facts: Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, was appointed INEC Chairman based on merit, experience, and unimpeachable integrity – not ethnicity.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, more than any Nigerian leader in recent history, has built his political career on the principle of inclusion, competence, and reward for merit. His appointments since assuming office reflect the full diversity of Nigeria – across faiths, ethnicities, and regions. To suggest that the appointment of a distinguished legal scholar from Kogi State is some grand “Yorubacentric” project is both dishonest and mischievous.”

Oladejo said it’s instructive that even in his convoluted attempt to assign sinister motives, Kperogi admits that Professor Amupitan is a Christian, has no record of partisanship, and hails from the North Central region.

“Yet, he still labors to frame his appointment as an extension of Yoruba hegemony. That contradiction alone betrays the emptiness of his argument.”

The Lagos APC reminded Kperogi and his echo chamber that Nigeria has moved beyond the provincial politics of suspicion and sectionalism.

He said President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is driven by competence, not geography, adding that from the South-East to the far North, his cabinet and key appointments speak the language of national balance and capacity, not ethnicity.

He added: “If the learned professor were less obsessed with ethnic framing and more concerned with truth, he would have celebrated the President for giving visibility to a minority group within the North – a gesture that promotes inclusion rather than division. Turning that gesture into an ethnic conspiracy is intellectual bad faith at its worst.

“We also find laughable his insinuation that Tinubu is “visibilizing northern Yorubas” as some ethnic bait. The President needs no ethnic arithmetic to consolidate legitimacy. His pan-Nigerian mandate was freely given by Nigerians who saw beyond tribe or tongue, and who trusted in his capacity to lead a complex nation with wisdom and balance.

“In contrast, Kperogi’s habitual fixation on ethnicity is a relic of the politics of resentment – a tired template for those who cannot comprehend the cosmopolitan and bridge-building nature of President Tinubu’s politics. From his days as Lagos Governor, where his cabinet was a microcosm of Nigeria, to his record of supporting capable leaders across all zones, Tinubu’s nationalism is lived, not theorized.”

The Lagos APC advised armchair commentators to rise above ethnic lenses and appreciate merit when they see it, stressing that Professor Amupitan’s appointment is a win for the law, for competence, and for Nigeria.

“To reduce it to an ethnic calculation is to insult the intelligence of the Nigerian people,” he added.

“In the end, Kperogi’s “Notes from Atlanta” is less a commentary on Tinubu’s leadership and more a confession of his own ethnic anxieties – an attempt to see division where none exists, and to project prejudice onto a leader who has consistently built bridges across Nigeria’s diversity. Nigeria has moved on. Kperogi should too,” the statement added.

Properties8 Insurance Provisions In Nigeria’s New Act Every Landlord, Developer by olajay86(op): 7:14am On Aug 09, 2025
From mandatory builders’ liability to insurers funding real estate projects, the new law hardwires insurance into property development, ownership, and management.

The Nigeria Insurance Industry Reform Act, 2024 is more than an update for insurers, it’s a game-changer for the real estate sector.

The law embeds insurance into every stage of the property lifecycle: planning, construction, occupancy, and even investment funding.

From compulsory builders’ liability to allowing insurers to invest in real estate projects, these provisions will influence how landlords, developers, facility managers, REITs, and government agencies operate.

Titope Blog presents 8 key sections of the Act with plain-English explanations and why they matter.

1. Compulsory insurance for buildings under construction- Sections: 75(1)– (3), (7)

What it means: Before construction starts, owners/contractors must take a builders’ liability policy to cover death, injury, and property damage to third parties from building activities, including collapse. Building control authorities must verify this before granting approval.

Why it matters: Makes insurance a non-negotiable cost in development budgets and prevents uninsured tragedies from crippling projects.

Who must comply: Developers / Contractors, architects, engineers, builders, project managers, and related consultants.

Key Point: “No insurance, no building permit, this could be the new normal for developers.”

2. Compulsory insurance for public buildings- Sections: 76(1)–(4)

What it means: Owners or occupiers of public buildings, offices, malls, tenements, hostels, shops must insure them against collapse, fire, earthquake, storm, and flood.

Why it matters: Brings millions of commercial and multi-tenant buildings into the insurance net, improving safety standards and compensation for victims of building disasters.

Who must comply: Landlords & Facility Managers of Public Buildings

Key Point: If your property is open to the public, the law says it must be insured.

3. Enforcement with seal-up powers and criminal penalties - Sections: 76(5)–(7)

What it means: NAICOM can work with authorities to seal non-compliant public buildings. Offenders face at least three years in prison or fines from N2 million.

Why it matters: Real teeth for enforcement property operators can no longer ignore insurance laws without serious consequences.

Who it affects: Landlords, Developers, Contractors, Insurance companies

Key Takeaway: Non-compliance could now cost you millions or your freedom.

4. Use of insurance payouts to rebuild after fire- Sections: 79(1)– (3)

What it means: Fire insurance proceeds should go toward reconstructing or reinstating damaged buildings, with insurers able to structure claims to ensure rebuilding happens.

Why it matters: Protects property values, lender interests, and business continuity, instead of payouts being diverted elsewhere.

Who it affects: Landlords, Developers, Contractors, Insurance companies

Key Takeaway: Insurance money for fire damage must go back into rebuilding not the owner’s pocket

5. Government must insure its own assets - Sections: 77(1)– (3)

What it means: All government buildings, facilities, and assets must be insured.

Why it matters: Creates steady institutional demand for property and liability insurance while protecting public infrastructure.

Who it affects: Government Ministries, Departments & Agencies

Key Takeaway: The government will now practise what it preaches by insuring its own buildings. Expect a scramble for government business

6. Insurers can invest in real estate development - Sections: 27(2)(g), §27(5)

What it means: NAICOM can allow insurers to invest in real estate development projects. Where other laws conflict, the Insurance Act prevails.

Why it matters: Opens a new pool of institutional capital for developers, REITs, and infrastructure projects.

Who it affects: Property Investors & REIT Managers

Key Takeaway: Insurers can now put their money where the bricks are. This could also create opportunities for real estate acquisitions by Insurance firms. Recall Custodian Investment acquired UPDC some years back

7. Act prevails over housing fund laws in conflicts- Sections: 230(1)– (2)

What it means: If the Bill conflicts with the National Housing Fund Act or similar laws on insurance matters, this Bill takes precedence.

Why it matters: Removes legal ambiguity for developers, lenders, and investors on insurance obligations tied to housing projects.

Key Takeaway: When in doubt, this Act calls the shots on housing-related insurance. Lawyers can’t come and cause confusion here

8. Compulsory insurance for petroleum and gas facilities - Sections: 78(1)– (2)

What it means: Petrol stations, gas plants, and related facilities must be insured many of which are on leased or co-located real estate.

Why it matters: Mitigates high-risk exposure for landlords and neighbouring property owners.

Who it affects: Owners of High-Risk Industrial or Energy Facilities

Key Highlights: If you have high-risk facilities on your land? The law says they must be insured. Think independent power providers.

Bottom Line

The Nigeria Insurance Industry Reform Act, 2024, is set to weave insurance into the DNA of Nigeria’s property market.

1. It compels developers, landlords, facility managers, and even government agencies to factor insurance into every stage of the asset lifecycle.

2. Compliance will no longer be an afterthought; it will be a prerequisite for approvals, occupancy, and even financing.

3. For investors and operators who move early, this isn’t just about ticking regulatory boxes.

4. The Act creates a more predictable risk environment, strengthens asset protection, and opens the door to new funding streams as insurers deploy capital into real estate projects.

5. It could deepen penetration, boost liquidity in the sector, and lift investor confidence.

The challenge is compliance and cost; the catalyst is safer assets, stronger balance sheets, and access to fresh capital

CelebritiesJarvis In Tears As Relationship With Peller Hits Tough Times by olajay86(op): 4:32am On Jun 15, 2025
TikToker, Jarvis, recently broke down in tears during a live-streaming session, shedding light on the ongoing tension in her relationship with fellow content creator, Peller.

The emotional moment occurred during a joint live broadcast that featured other popular TikTokers, Sandra Benede and Seun Pizzle. In the video, Jarvis expressed her frustration, accusing Peller of breaching her trust by publicly sharing private details of their relationship.

According to her, any time she opens up to Peller about personal issues, he brings them up during his live sessions, often inappropriately. “He doesn’t know how to filter his words when he’s live,” she said, explaining why she has stopped confiding in him.

When asked what triggered the recent disagreement, Jarvis admitted the matter had deeper layers. “There are many reasons Peller is angry, but he’s taking it public. We’ve already talked about these things privately, but because it hasn’t been addressed online…”

On his part, Peller accused Jarvis of being secretive and not informing him of her plans in advance. He maintained that he’s open with her about his life and doesn’t hold anything back.

Venting his frustrations during his own live session, he said, “How can I claim this kind of girl? Do you know what this girl did? I don’t like Jarvis; she has offended me. I’m just helping her life now. I’m trying to accept her back, but she has already hurt me.”

The situation sparked debate among fans, many of whom were skeptical about the authenticity of the drama. Some suggested it might be content-driven, predicting that the pair would soon reconcile as they had in the past.

This isn’t the first public spat between the couple. In March 2025, Jarvis called out Peller and threatened to end their engagement following another heated argument.

Since making their relationship public in 2024, Jarvis and Peller have been the subject of intense online speculation, with many doubting the longevity of their romance. Their relationship gained widespread attention in December 2025 when Peller proposed to her in a viral video

PoliticsLagos To Recommence Monthly Environmental Sanitation (Photos) by olajay86(op): 6:50pm On Jun 01, 2025
…Moves Against Syndicate Behind Cart-Pushing Business In Idi-Araba

The Lagos State Government has said it will recommence the monthly sanitation exercise as part of measures to engender a clean, liveable and sustainable environment.

A commencement notice to this effect, according to the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab will soon be published.

The government reiterated the importance of good sanitation practices amongst all residents in order to ensure a clean, flood free, safe and sustainable environment across the state.

Wahab said this on Sunday during an inspection tour to Idi-Araba and Orile Iganmu, Alaba Rago, noting that all residents must make good sanitation practices a daily culture and way of life.

The commissioner said the Lagos State Government understands the essence of proper sanitation and “has resolved to commence the Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise adding that a formal commencement date will soon be announced publicly.”

The Commissioner said the Ministry got an intelligence that there was a syndicate behind the cart-pushing business around Idi-Araba adding that the Ministry had to visit and come up with ways to totally eradicate the activities of the syndicate and cart pushers in the area.

"At Idi-araba, under Mushin Local Government area, we observed alot of cart pushers and there is a law on environmental management and protection in the state which prohibits cat-pushing adding that in the past few weeks and months, there has been a major enforcement against cart-pushing state-wide which will be stepped up" he said.

He noted that there was an abandoned dumpsite at Idi Araba that is still being operated illegally by the cart pushers and enabled by the syndicate group saying that the issue will also be decisively dealt with alongside traders under Daleko bridge, engaging in buying and selling.

While at Alaba Rago Market, Wahab recalled that enforcement officers always visit the market and the market had been closed down sometime last year with a request that the executives of the market should do the right thing saying that it will be unfortunate if the market has to be closed down again due to unsanitary activities.

"They have turned the median to a waste system, to dump their waste; they havr also extended the market, pushed it to the road; blocked all the median system and the alignment We have given them till tomorrow evening, afterwards we'll determine if the market should or shouldn't be sealed" he said.

The Commissioner said the chairman of the market has agreed that they will clear up all infractions and take ownership of the infrastructure around the market insisting that if they do not comply with the stipulated time, the Ministry will have no choice but to take steps to sanction them.

He sounded a note of warning to traders selling on the road, drainage setback and road median at Alaba rago Market, Badagry Expressway, Ojo LGA, to move their wares into the main market and conduct their business activities in the specified space saying the government would lock the market by 6pm on Monday if the the unwholesome business activities persist.

He said that all markets across the state should take note that the Lagos State Environmental Law did not permit anyone to trade on the road or on the drainage channels as such everyone trading illegally should desist from it or else their markets would be shut down.

At Orile Iganmu, the Commissioner noted that the Iganmu Channel had been blocked with indiscriminate waste disposal and it had to be holistically cleaned directing that swamp buggies be deployed next week to clean out the waste to allow free flow of storm water.

Wahab said the government understands that the state is getting bigger by way of population gain as such the government would not stop putting in place resilient infrastructure across the state stating that one of such is the deployment of LAWMA trucks to assist defaulting PSP operators.

"Over 100 trucks have been fully deployed to support and intervene where PSP operators have been challenged across the state; the intervention would continue until we finish our conversation with the PSP operators" he said.

He mentioned that people always want to free ride the system not wanting to pay for the services but want to enjoy the service.

"You don't want to pay for a service and when they ask you, you throw tantrums; It's your own wastes; You have about 377 wards in the state and you have 377 operators statewide; So if they pay, the operator will be obligated to do the needful" he said.

He implored residents to support Government efforts by avoiding the unwholesome act of illegal waste disposal saying it is expedient for everyone to take ownership of all infrastructure provided by the government.

He reiterated that all residents must therefore stop littering the roads, road medians, drainage / drainage setback and canals with wastes saying they must always bag their wastes properly in their respective homes and always patronise the PSP.

Places visited include Ojerinde Street, Ewunmi Street, Wonuola Street, Takuro Street, Paul Okuntola Street, Taiwo Street all at Idi - Araba; Alabarago Market, Badagry Expesway, Ojo LGA, Iganmu Channel, Orile - Iganmu.

The Commissioner was accompanied by the Special Adviser on Environment, Engr. Olakunle Rotimi- Akodu;
Permanent Secretary ; Office of Drainage Services Engr. Mahamood Adegbite; MD LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin; KAI Corps MARSHAL, Major Olatunbosun Cole (Rtd)

This will be done in the coming days. The outcome, which will be made public, shall determine the next step to be taken by the Commission.

We once again reassure Nigerians that the process will be open and transparent.

INEC Rejects Kogi Senator’s Recall Petition, Petition Fails Over Major Omission

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reviewed a petition for the recall of the Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District. The petition, submitted with six bags of documents containing signatures from over half of the 474,554 registered voters, was discussed at INEC’s weekly meeting on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.

However, INEC noted that the petitioners failed to provide a definite contact address and multiple phone numbers as required by Clause 1(f) of its 2024 Regulations and Guidelines for Recall. Only one phone number was submitted, making communication difficult.

INEC emphasized that a recall is solely the prerogative of registered voters and assured that once all submission requirements are met, the verification process will commence using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS). The process will be transparent, with petitioners, the affected senator, accredited observers, and the media allowed to monitor proceedings.

The Commission is now working to notify the petitioners of the missing details and reaffirmed its commitment to due process, urging the public to disregard social media speculations.

Politics2027: Reactions Trail Seyi Tinubu’s Endorsement As Next Lagos Governor by olajay86(op): 9:07am On Nov 30, 2024
A few days ago, several groups mounted campaigns, endorsing Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu to become the next governor of Lagos State.

We reports that it started with the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders, CONYL, which in a statement in Owerri, Imo State, endorsed the President’s son for the Lagos governorship seat in 2027.

According to the Coalition, Seyi Tinubu had on several occasions proven through his philanthropic gestures that he is a man who is selfless in all senses of the word.

A few days ago, several groups mounted campaigns, endorsing Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu to become the next governor of Lagos State.

DAILY POST reports that it started with the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders, CONYL, which in a statement in Owerri, Imo State, endorsed the President’s son for the Lagos governorship seat in 2027.

According to the Coalition, Seyi Tinubu had on several occasions proven through his philanthropic gestures that he is a man who is selfless in all senses of the word.

“When there was flooding in Borno State, Mr Seyi and his team were there to sympathize and show support to those Nigerians whose property, homes and means of livelihood were destroyed by the flood.

“He gave a lot of gift items, food, home utensils, drugs and money to the affected persons during that period when the sad event took place,” the coalition said.

Also, the Lagos branch of the Middle Belt Youths joined the call in a press conference, with the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the Middle Belt Forum, Dr Stanley Augustine Kavwam, as well as the group’s National Youth Leader, Capt. Brent Kane, urging Seyi to step up in 2027, describing him as the leader Lagos needs.

In the same vein, a socio-political organisation, Friends of Seyi Tinubu, FOST, endorsed Seyi Tinubu for the 2027 contest.

Describing him as a visionary leader with a rare blend of intellect, empathy, and strategic acumen, the group said Seyi Tinubu is the quintessential choice to drive Lagos state into a future defined by prosperity and innovation.

A statement by its president, Comr. Adejorin Tai Manuel, said Seyi Tinubu’s philanthropic contributions, leadership acumen, and commitment to societal progress is evidence of his readiness to serve as governor.

The development has been drawing reactions from different stakeholders.

First to quickly react was a prominent member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Joe Igbokwe, who voiced his opposition in a Facebook post, describing the endorsements as a ploy to undermine President Tinubu.

“Who are these faceless people pushing Seyi Tinubu for Lagos governor? This is a needless distraction. To pull PBAT down is their target. Ruling Lagos is not the job of boys,” Igbokwe wrote.

Similarly, a youth group under the aegis of the Coalition of Lagos Indigenous Youths rejected the endorsement, saying there was no vacancy for a non-indigene to occupy the Alausa Government House.

“Our attention has been drawn to the recent endorsement of Seyi Tinubu for Lagos governor by a group known as Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders, CONYL, and the group is described as the umbrella body of all the youth groups drawn across the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria.

“The said Coalition sat in Owerri, Imo State and publicly issued the statement of endorsement.

“While we know Mr Seyi Tinubu has his democratic rights as a Nigerian, we condemn the ill-fated endorsement and describe it as anti-democracy and a deliberate move by some faceless individuals to deny indigenes of Lagos State the right to govern themselves in 2027.

“It is no longer news that since 1999, no true blood indigene of Lagos State has taken over the mantle of leadership in the State (except one), the marginalization which underscores the essence of democracy and an outright denial of the indigenes of Lagos State the right to govern themselves.

“We know as a fact that there will soon be vacancy in Osun State where Mr Seyi Tinubu can best exercise his democratic rights unhindered.

“And if the people of Owerri in Imo are also interested in benefiting from the experience Mr Seyi Tinubu has acquired in recent times, they can push him to succeed Governor Uzodinma.

“As for us there is no vacancy for non-indigenes in Lagos State in 2027. The marginalization is too much and the marginalization has led to the underdevelopment in the state,” the group said.

On its part, the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said that citizens would resist any attempts to impose Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, as the next governor of the state.

The state PDP spokesperson, Hakeem Amode, while rejecting the idea, said, “Lagos will not serve him.”

Amode asked whether governorship should become an inheritance, suggesting that it was inappropriate for a son to inherit such a role from his father.

He stressed that if the Tinubu camp were to resort to tactics similar to those used in Ondo and Edo states in the past, it would be met with resistance.

“Governorship is not a gift,” he stated.

Speaking to DAILY POST, a human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, described the endorsement as laughable, adding that it was a clear indication that the people of Lagos State were taken for granted.

He queried if Nigeria, particularly Lagos State, was practising a monarchical system of government, where a father would pass the baton of leadership to his son in a democratic society filled with eligible and competent citizens.

According to him, such a thing happens because there is no election, adding that what takes place in disguise of election is ‘selection.’

While noting that everyone has the right to contest for election, Adeyanju called on the political actors of Lagos State to rise.

“It is a laughable endorsement because they have underrated Lagos people. If they rate them, such calls would not even be arising.

“Is Lagos a monarchy state, where the Tinubu’s family is supreme? Is it that power is the birthright of the Tinubu’s family?

“Is there something that people don’t know that should be known about them? Because I just don’t understand and can’t explain it.

“It makes no sense that they underrated Lagos people. And it’s because elections don’t take place there, it’s just selection. And because strong political office holders are never held accountable by the people, that’s why things go the way they go.

“Nigeria is practising federalism and not monarchy where political powers are being inherited from the father to the son.

“It therefore behoves on the political actors of Lagos State to stand up and do what is right for the state,” he stated.

Foreign AffairsKamala Harris Calls Donald Trump To Concede Defeat In US Election by olajay86(op): 9:03pm On Nov 06, 2024
Kamala Harris has called Donald Trump to concede defeat in the US presidential election

A senior adviser to the vice president said she talked about "the importance of a peaceful transfer of power and being a president for all Americans".

Ms Harris is due to deliver a concession speech at 4pm local (9pm UK time).

Mr Trump won a decisive victory - comfortably clearing the 270 electoral votes needed to clinch the presidency.

He said he had won "an unprecedented and powerful mandate".

Declaring victory earlier in Palm Beach, Florida, Mr Trump told his supporters : "We're going to help our country hea

We have a country that needs help, and it needs help very badly. We're going to fix our borders. We're going to fix everything about our country and we've made history for a reason tonight."

He also doubled down on his promise to crack down on illegal immigration and promised a "golden age of America".

He added: "This is a magnificent victory for the American people that will allow us to 'make America great again'."

The president-elect briefly paused his speech as the crowd chanted "USA, USA, USA!". Mr Trump's Republican Party also took control of the Senate from the Democrats.

He continued: "America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate. We have taken back control of the Senate. Wow.

Wow. That's great."

Trump declares victory

Ms Harris ran as the Democratic candidate for the White House after President Joe Biden left the race amid concerns about his advanced age following his debate with Mr Trump in June.

As the vice president, she is expected to oversee the US Congress' ceremonial certification of the election.

It is unclear what role she will play in the future of the Democratic Party.

World leaders began to congratulate Mr Trump before his victory had even been confirmed, with the election result set to have a sweeping impact on global politics.

British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said: "Congratulations President-elect Trump on your historic election victory. I look forward to working with you in the years ahead... I know that the UK-US special relationship will continue to prosper on both sides of the Atlantic for years to come."

Meanwhile, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he looked forward to an "era of a strong United States of America under President Trump's decisive leadership".

He added: "I appreciate President Trump's commitment to the 'peace through strength' approach in global affairs. This is exactly the principle that can practically bring just peace in Ukraine closer."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu congratulated Mr Trump on "history's greatest comeback!", while senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri said the incoming president will be tested on his statements that he can stop the war in Gaza within hours.

It came as European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said she "warmly" congratulated Mr Trump, while NATO secretary-general Mark Rutte said he was looking forward to working with him to "advance peace through strength".

Youths who turn down taxi driving in Nigeria are taking it up in other countries — FCT Minister Wike

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), claims that many people who refuse to drive taxis in Nigeria are more than happy to do so in other countries.

The minister stated this while handing over 80 new cars to beneficiaries to use as taxis at an empowerment programme in Garki on Thursday, October 31.

According to him, “They are not paying a dime. No; the government is saying this is our support to feed your family and reduce the cost of transportation in the city… Abuja should compete with other cities in the world.

What you will see in the social media is that he wants them to be taxi drivers. We travel and see Nigerians who stay abroad and work as taxi drivers.

Nigerians at home will say our uncle is in London, my uncle is in Houston, my uncle is in Paris, my uncle has sent us $200 but he (the uncle abroad) makes his money as a taxi driver, feeds his family and pays his taxes.

Instead of encouraging how to feed our families, the next thing we will see in social media is that they are giving them jobs as taxi drivers.

We can’t be taxi drivers here but we prefer taxi driving in London. That is the country you are in.”

PoliticsFG Donates ₦500m To Nigerian Legion by olajay86(op): 10:05am On Oct 30, 2024
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, announced the donation at the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration Emblem and Appeal Fund Launch at the State House, Abuja.

In a Tuesday statement, presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga said President Bola Tinubu also commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their unwavering efforts towards combatting the various security challenges affecting the country.

“No matter what economic theory we propagate or postulate, if there is no security, we cannot promote peace and development,” President Tinubu was quoted as saying.

“I am grateful to all of you on behalf of the country. The challenges are severe, but you are this country’s first line of defence. Thank you for your patriotic commitment to Nigerian unity, stability, and progress.”

Tinubu, who emphasised that the welfare of the security forces would remain the government’s top priority, also extolled men and women who have paid the ultimate price in defence of the country, assuring that their sacrifices will not be in vain.

“We came today to remember our fallen heroes, men, and women who have sacrificed their lives for this country’s unity, stability, and progress. We are committed to their values, principles, beliefs, and the unity and strength of this country as we pass on a banner without stain to the next generation,” he said.

“It is a great honour for me to launch the emblem once again. The welfare of our men and women in the Armed Forces will continue to be our top priority. I want to thank all of you.”

On his part, the Minister of Defence Abubakar Badaru appreciated Tinubu for his support of the welfare of the armed forces, serving retired and fallen heroes, and their relations.

“Let us remember that unveiling this Emblem serves as a beacon of hope and a reminder of our collective responsibility to uplift our Armed Forces and their families. Therefore, you will agree that the Armed Forces Remembrance Day is more than just a commemoration; it is a call to action,” the minister said.

“Hence, this Appeal Fund we are launching today to provide essential support to our veterans and their families becomes crucial. The funds raised will directly contribute to welfare programs, offering vital services such as healthcare, education, and financial assistance.”

Some of the dignitaries who were present at the event included Vice President Kashim Shettima; Senate President Godswill Akpabio; Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, members of the Federal Executive Council, service chiefs, heads of other security and paramilitary agencies, and representatives of the Nigerian Legion among others.

PoliticsAtiku Plays Video Clips To Collaborate Evidence At Tribunal by olajay86(op): 6:16pm On Jul 15, 2019
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, Monday played a video recording at the election petition tribunal where a Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mike Igini admitted that the electoral body would transmit election results with the use of smart card readers to the INEC central server.

Igini spoke with Channels Television shortly before the election was conducted.

Atiku’s counsel, Chris Uche, SAN, had tendered 48 combat disc and admitted by the tribunal as part of efforts to substantiate alleged rigging against the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Uche who led Atiku and PDP legal team at the Appeal proceedings, tendered the 48 video recordings through Mr. Segun Showumi, one of the media aides to the PDP presidential candidate.

During the play of one of the recordings, the INEC REC for Akwa Ibom State was emphatic when he told the Channels TV crew that the electoral body would surely use smart card to transmit election results into the INEC server.

However, under cross-examination by INEC led counsel, Yunus Usman, Atiku’s witness admitted that Igini was not the official spokesman for INEC.

Meanwhile, Buhari through his counsel, Alex Izinyon had sought to play counter-video recording tomorrow.

In another video recording, played in the courtroom, INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu expressed optimism before the election that the Commission would use the electronic system during the conduct of the 2019 general elections.

Earlier, the tribunal chairman, Justice Mohammed Garba had dismissed the objection by Buhari and the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to tendering and playing of the said video recording before the tribunal on the ground that they were not frontloaded.

Justice Garba held that both Buhari, APC and INEC are bound by the pre-hearing report they freely signed to the effect that documents to be tendered from the bar can only be opposed at the final address stage.

The tribunal chairman in the unanimous ruling also held that none of the four parties to the agreement can renege on any of the terms and, therefore, admitted the video clips as rendered by the two petitioners through their star witness.

Also, three witnesses Babagana Kukawa, Abana Pogu and Suleiman Mohamed Bulama from Borno and Yobe states had testified that voters in the two states were harassed, intimidated and threatened farmers to either vote for APC or risk being ejected from their farmlands.

In his evidence, Bulama alleged that the APC used soldiers to molest ,attack and injure some voters suspected to be sympathetic to PDP. He also alleged village and district heads were allegedly used to coerce the voters into voting for Buhari.

But hearing was scheduled to continue from tomorrow.

http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/07/gowon-reveals-those-who-saved-obasanjo.html

Former military head of state, General Yakubu Gowon (retd) has revealed how he and other prominent Nigerians saved Chief Olusegun Obasanjo from impeachment by the National Assembly, during his second term as president.

He identified General Abdulsalami Abubakar and Chief Ernest Sonekan, both of them ex-heads of state, as some of the other eminent Nigerians involved in saving Obasanjo from getting the sack.

Gowon, speaking during a lecture ‘Nation Building or Nation Fragmentation: Reflections on 20 Years of Post-Military Rule in Nigeria’ in Abuja on Saturday, said it took them some efforts to convince the then Senate President, Pius Anyim, and House of Representatives Speaker, Ghali Na’Abba, to drop the impeachment plot in the national interest.

While commenting on Na’Abbah, who was also a guest at the occasion, Gowon said, “I can assure you that we had some very important discussions and I know that we had to appeal to him and the President of the Senate not to impeach Obasanjo and of course, because of the respect they had for us, they listened to us.

“This is because if we had allowed them to impeach the President at that time of our democracy, no President in Nigeria would escape being harassed. So, I thank you very much for listening to us.

“Like me, Late Emmanuel Abisoye chose to join the Nigerian military in preference to other careers which he was eminently qualified. His achievements in the military career showed that he took the right decision to serve his country.

“As young as we were then, our ideals were not self-seeking. Rather, they were focused on the growth and development of a strong, stable, viable and indivisible nation.

“As his Commander-In-Chief during the Nigerian crisis of 1967 to 1970, I found his scorecard commendable; he fought gallantly, courageously.”

SportsNigeria Vs Algeria: Rohr Reveals AFCON Game That Was “a Joker” For Super Eagles by olajay86(op): 6:23pm On Jul 12, 2019

Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, has said that their 2-0 loss to Madagascar, was their “joker” at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria lost 2-0 to the Barea at Alexandria Stadium, in their last Group B encounter almost two weeks ago.

Rohr’s men have since put the defeat behind them and will face Algeria in the semi-finals on Sunday.

“The loss to Madagascar was our joker.

“We could lose it because we had already qualified for the next round.

“We wanted to allow others in the team to play as well.

“We can forget about the defeat to Madagascar now because we are through to the semi-final. Even the defeat helped us to be more humble and sometimes it is good also,” Rohr told the media.

PoliticsIhedioha Destroying State Infrastructure – Imo Youths by olajay86(op): 6:15pm On Jul 12, 2019
http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/07/ihedioha-destroying-state.html

As the war of words between Governor Emeka Ihedioha of Imo State and his successor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha continues, the governor has been accused of destroying the State’s infrastructure.

The allegation was contained in a press statement by Imo Patriotic Youths Vanguard, signed by its spokesman, Barrister Obinna Okoli.

According to the group, Ihedioha was engaging in the said action just to spite Okorocha, to the detriment of the people of the State.

The statement made available to us: “We wish to alert all well meaning Imolites and of course, all Nigerians to a badly advised action by the Imo State governor, His Excellency Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha and his agents, which targets to destroy some legacy infrastructures put in place by the administration of his immediate predecessor, His Excellency Owelle Rochas Okorocha. This unfortunate and ill-advised action by the Imo State governor is wrong and deemed a sabotage to the people of Imo State, and as critical stakeholders and non-partisan observers we therefore wish to state as follows:

“That every project executed by the immediate past administration and indeed every project executed in Imo State by any administration belongs to the people of Imo State and we demand that the new government takes steps to ensure that these projects are protected and maintained for the benefit of generality of Imolites.

“That the body language of the incumbent governor of Imo State, His Excellency Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha should grow beyond petty political sentiments and take steps to safeguard assets belonging to the State without minding which administration put these infrastructures in place.

“That as an association, our members are drawn from across political Parties, but our key interest is the continued development of the State and we deplore any action that tends to project our dear State in bad light.

“That we have it on good authority that the governor of Imo State has instructed some hooligans who mostly belong to the Peoples Democratic Party to destroy some infrastructure put in place by the immediate past APC administration in the State and we declare that this action is in bad taste and therefore highly condemnable.

“That we recognize that these projects were executed with funds belonging to the people of Imo State and the destruction of these projects is seen as sabotage by all well meaning Imolites.”

The Youth group further claimed that “assets of the State government are being looted by agents of the present government.

“These individuals have continued to loot furnitures, Hospital equipment and other properties belonging to the people of Imo State, because the present government has failed to completely take charge of governance and understand that government properties should be protected from the excesses of lawless individuals.

“That the recruitment of media influencers by the current administration for the sole purpose of projecting the state of Imo’s infrastructure in bad light is economically disastrous to the State, as this has scared potential investors away from the State, thereby contributing to job losses and insecurity in the State.

“That while we do not speak for the immediate past administration in the State nor are we fans to the governance style of Senator Owelle Rochas Okorocha, we are afraid that going by the initial steps, actions and utterances of the incumbent governor, Imo may be in big trouble, as it does not seem that the incumbent governor has any vision for the continued development of Imo State.

“That we call on the PDP led government to concentrate on governing the State and bringing the dividends of democracy to the people instead of the political witch-hunt targeted at Senator Owelle Rochas Okorocha and members of his political and biological families.

“We call on the Federal Government of Nigeria to pay special attention to Imo State, as it is becoming increasingly obvious by the day that the current government in the State is hell-bent on igniting crisis in the State through its actions and utterances.

“That the governor of Imo State should come out clean on allegations making the rounds on social media that he has squandered over two Billion Naira of Imo public funds on sponsoring media attacks against his predecessor, while civil servants and pensioners are abandoned to penury and pains.

“We demand an immediate stoppage to the ongoing destruction of public infrastructure in the State, and request the Federal Government through the relevant security agencies to do more towards protecting Imo infrastructure from vandalization and looting.”

PoliticsFayemi Pays Salaries, Allowances Of Fayose’s Appointees by olajay86(op): 6:09pm On Jul 12, 2019
The Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi has paid the outstanding salaries and allowances of members of the State Civil Service Commission and House of Assembly Service Commission who were appointed by the immediate past administration of Mr. Ayodele Fayose.

Governor Kayode Fayemi disclosed this while presenting cheques covering their outstanding remunerations.

He thanked the appointees for their meritorious service to the State.

Fayemi, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Biodun Omoleye acknowledged the understanding and patriotism of the former appointees while serving with his government, wishing them well in their future endeavours.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the outgone chairman of the House of Assembly Service Commission, Hon. Tunji Odeyemi appreciated Fayemi for being kindhearted, saying Fayemi’s gesture is uncommon and devoid of personal vendetta.

Odeyemi said that the appointees had earlier thought that Fayemi would remove them from office since that was the norm but the governor was law abiding and retained them in office.

“We are most delighted for an avenue like this. I must confess that this opportunity we are having today is very uncommon. When a new governor or government comes on board, what they usually do is to remove members of commissions and boards appointed by their predecessor not minding the laws establishing those commissions.

“But you have magnanimously retained us and now paying our outstanding salaries. As far as Ekiti is concerned, from 1999 to date, the opportunity we are having like this has not been very common. We are grateful to His Excellency for this”, he said.

The former acting governor said Fayemi has demonstrated his commitment to treating all Ekiti people equally regardless of their political affiliations and has set precedence for his successor to follow.

SportsFIFA Rankings: Nigeria Move Two Places Up [full List] by olajay86(op): 4:35pm On Jul 12, 2019
http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/07/fifa-rankings-nigeria-move-two-places.html

Nigeria have moved two places up the FIFA Women’s rankings, following their first Round of 16 appearance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 20 years.

The rankings were released on FIFA’s website on Friday.

The African champions are now ranked in the 36th position with 1643 points, but they remain the continent’s top placed team.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the exploits of the U.S. at the tournament saw them retain their top spot as the world’s best.

Jill Ellis team strengthened their hold after defeating four fellow top-six nations in the process to extend their lead to 121 points over Germany who are second.

The world champions amassed 2180 points against 2059 by the German side, who lost to Sweden in the quarter-finals.

This has become the largest gap in the ranking’s history.

The Netherlands, who were runners-up at the World Cup in France, moved five places up to the third position and are the biggest movers within the top 10.

After their Cinderella run to the final in what was only their second ever participation in the world finals, the Dutch’s third-place ranking is the country’s best-ever position.

For the African teams, Cameroon, who alongside Nigeria reached the Round of 16, rose five places up with 1552 points in the 41st position to become Africa’s second best team.

Debutants South Africa retained their 49th spot in the world and are third on the continent’s list.

Also, Gabon returned to the ranking for the first time since August 2016, placed 124th, after their impressive away win over Congo in the 2020 Olympics qualifiers.

Sweden’s bronze-medal finish at France 2019 saw them make the second-highest move within the top 10.

They moved from the ninth to sixth position and returned to the top six for the first time in over two years.

The ranking itself reached a new milestone with the number of teams increasing from 155 to 158.

PoliticsFFK To Buhari: Remove That Accursed Page Of Fulani Vampires From Our Passport by olajay86(op): 1:57pm On Jul 12, 2019
http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/07/ffk-to-buhari-remove-that-accursed-page.html

To say that former minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode (FFK) is angry about the photo of Fulani Herdsmen on our new International Passport, is to put it mildly.

FFK is outraged! You will confirm this in the series of tweets he shared this morning. Read what he wrote below.

Fulani herdsmen are symbols of bloodshed, terror, mass murder, ethnic-cleansing, genocide, carnage, torment, trauma and evil. They represent nothing but cruelty, suffering, land-grabbing, church-burning, raping and pillaging and are instruments of occupation, domination and conquest.

They have slaughtered more Nigerians over the last 4 years than Boko Haram have done in 10 and they have been designated as the 4th most deadly terrorist org. in the world by the int. community. We must consider all this in the light of the composition of our new passport.

To dedicate a page of our passport to them and paste their picture on it represents the biggest and most gratutious insult to the Nig. people that has ever been served. It’s like dedicating a page of the Israeli passport to Hitler and the Nazis that slaughtered 6 million Jews.

It is like dedicating a page of the Southern Sudanese passport to the supporter of APC Arab Muslims of Darfur that slaughtered hundreds of thousands of black African Christians in the Sudan.

It is like dedicating a page of the Congolese passport to King Leopold 11 of Belgium and his people after they butchered 10 million Congolese. It is like dedicating a page of the Rwandan passport to the Hutu Interahamwe after they wiped out 1 million Rwandan Tutsis.

It is like dedicating a page of the American passport to the rebel Confederate forces of the American civil war and to the Ku Klux Klan who slaughtered miliions of black Americans over the years and who insisted on the perpetuation of the institution of slavery.

Such a gesture is heartless, unforgivable and unbecoming. It is insensitive. It is callous. It is wicked. It is uncharitable. It is unkind and it is evil. The worship and veneration of cows and cowloving is alien to the Nig. culture and it is regarded as an abomination.

To paste such people and their accursed cows on our international passport and compel Nigerians to carry them all over the world with us as part of our national identity, heritage and culture is unaccpetable and too much to ask. It is a gross misrepresentation of who we are.

We reject it in its entirety and we insist that the Buhari administration removes that accursed page forthwith and replace it with another symbol that truly represents the noble, enlightened, civilised and laudable nature and heritage of the Nigerian people.

PoliticsKaduna Assembly Refuses To Confirm Commissioner-nominee For Criticising El-rufai by olajay86(op): 4:13pm On Jul 11, 2019
http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/07/kaduna-assembly-refuses-to-confirm.html

The Kaduna State House of Assembly on Thursday rejected the Commissioner nominee for Agriculture, Aliyu Jaafaru, sent to them for confirmation by Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the nominee, who appeared before the assembly for screening, was however rejected by the lawmakers due to his alleged criticism of the El-Rufai administration.

The Speaker, Alhaji Aminu Shagali, who presided over plenary, said the rejection was as a result of his criticism against the El-Rufai government on his social media handle since 2017.

Shagali said Jafaaru had been criticising one of the best policies of the present administration on education since 2017, which is the issue of disengagement of unqualified teachers in the state.

While quoting some of his posts, the Speaker said “in your Facebook account, you said there was nothing like making Kaduna State great again.

“It is a deceptive clinch used by politicians to deceive the masses; we will make Kaduna great at the appropriate time.

“It is a responsibility for those who are truly sincere not for those who are inherently sarcastic.

“You also said El-Rufai must learn to tackle issues with human face, you also said you are an advocate of change that goes to the root cause, not only the symptoms.

“You also said in the same post, stop comparing me with El-Rufai who thinks he is more intelligent than intelligence itself.

“You, however, said you are a humble human being that believes that all that glitter is not gold hence there is nothing authoritarian in insisting on the truth and never speak the truth.

“I detest insincerity as there are better ways of genuinely solving problems.”

Briefing journalists shortly after the plenary, the Chairman, Assembly Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Alhaji Tanimu Musa, said the rejection of the governor’s nominee was as a result of his criticism of the El-Rufai administration.

He said: “The evil that men do live even after them, Jaafaru has been a critic of this administration on social media.

“He has been criticising the government, so why does he want to work with the government you have been criticising?”

Other nominees screened include: Mr. Thomas Gyang – Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Alhaji Hassan Mahmud – Commissioner in the governor’s office for Riots, Damage, Rehabilitation and Resettlement and Alhaji Atiku Musa as Auditor General.

The House urged the auditor general to ensure that the audited account of each local government in the state was up-to-date.

Meanwhile, the speaker also announced that the Deputy Governor, Hajiya Hadiza Balarabe, would serve as the acting commissioner for Health pending when the substantive commissioner was appointed.

EducationPolytechnic Ibadan Destroys Over 1,000 Phones Of Students; Gives Reason [PHOTOS] by olajay86(op): 1:17pm On Jul 11, 2019
http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/07/polytechnic-ibadan-destroys-over-1000.html

The Management of The Polytechnic, Ibadan on Wednesday destroyed no fewer than one thousand mobile telephones worth over fifteen million naira (N15 million).

We gathered that the mobile phones were seized from students during various examinations conducted in the institution in the last one year. The phones were seized and subsequently burnt in order to reduce examination malpractices through the use of information and communication technology.

The burning of the items was supervised by a senior lecturer and the immediate past Deputy Rector of the Institution, Mr. Bayo Oyeleke.

Others at the event were; Deputy Registrar of the school, Mrs Ayoade, the Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Soladoye Adewole, Chief Security Officer, Head of Legal Unit, Ibadan, Barrister Ige Akinsola and President of the Student Union Government, Akadiri Bayonle.

Oyeleke, in his address, stated that the school authority usually warned students against taking mobile telephones to examination halls, but it was surprised that some students do not yield to the warning.

He said, “However, some students still go into the exam hall with their mobile phones which is against the rules and regulations of the institution.”

Oyeleke insisted that the action of burning the mobile telephones after they were seized was carried out in order to serve as deterrent to students of the institution who wish to further indulge in the illegal and inappropriate act.

Adewole, on his part, told us that the management decided to burn the mobile telephones so that they will not get into wrong hands.

The PRO, while confirming the burning of the mobile telephones to our correspondent on Thursday, said, “Up to 1,000 mobile telephones seized in the last one year were burnt. They were seized during examinations in the last one year.

“But, it will not be alright if we return them to the owners because we want to ensure sanctity of our examinations in the school. The management decided to burn the mobile telephones, it will be inappropriate if we say that we will return them, they may fall into wrong hands.

“We have been warning students not to take phones into examination halls. Any student that attempted to cheat using modern technology like phones will have the phone seized.

“We want cheating through the use of technology to stop. The exercise was attended by lecturers, students leaders were there and even members of the press council of the institution were also there.”

PoliticsRUGA: Be Vigilant, FG Plotting New Strategy – CAN Warns Christians by olajay86(op): 4:32pm On Jul 10, 2019
http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/07/ruga-be-vigilant-fg-plotting-new.html

Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has cautioned Christians in the country, especially those in the Southern part of the country to remain vigilant even with the suspension of the controversial RUGA settlement for Fulani herdsmen.

The secretary of CAN in the 17 Southern States, Dr Joseph Ajujungwa gave the warning in a statement he made available to us on Wednesday.

Ajujungwa, who said the suspension of the programme by President Muhammadu Buhari may not be its end, said there was every indication “though it is claimed that it has been suspended, the underground work is still going on.”

He called on “every Southerner and Christians all over the country to be watchful”, stressing that, “even as we pray, we don’t need to keep quiet; they are experts in underground work.”

He added that, “We do not have land to give to anybody as a grazing field or colony and we call on the South East governors to maintain their stand that they do not have such a place. Do you know what it means to give 10 hectares of land to herdsmen? We say no to that.

“As CAN, we will preach it from our pulpit, every Imam should peach from the mosque and the traditionalists should stand against it; nobody should relent; no land should be given; any traditional ruler that does that should be dethroned.

“In the North, we have the largest hectares of land, very vast that nobody is occupying. Why are they not building the ranches, Ruga of whatever there? They can come here, take grass and go, and we buy cow in exchange, just like the governors said. We do not have such mass land required.”

“We are also calling on the Federal Government to be mindful of what they are doing because cattle rearing is a private farming business. Why should the government support individual cattle farmers against other farmers?” On the threat and ultimatum issued by a coalition of Northern Youths, Ajujungwa said “they should understand that nobody has the monopoly of violence.

As they are planning to attack, others are planning to defend themselves and we cannot run away.

“CAN is calling on all Christians, all law-abiding citizens of Southern Nigeria to please watch and pray. Watch means that you must open your eyes to see what is going on and therefore pray; do not relent.

“Anybody that is coming to buy land now, in the name of business, factory, and what have you, let us be cautious in dealing with the person because their plot is to turn such into colony”, the statement reads.
