UPDATE SO FAR ON MY JOURNEY POE Got into Canada about 2 weeks ago. There was serious wind storm on that day so the waiting time at the airport wasn't funny at all as they could not unload our luggage from the aircraft until after 3 hours. That aside the POE wasnt automated as some people mentioned on this thread. It was only automated for PRs and Canadians. For non-residents, there was another queue where you are questioned on why you are in Canada and for how long. Thankfully mine went well as i already indicated during my application that i wanted to avail childbirth in Canada. The immigration officer pulled out the info from their system and said i was correct and he even thanked me and said he was happy that people still tell the truth that a lot of people still lie to their faces. He said there is no crime in coming for child birth as long as you tell the Visa officer and you have the required funds to cover the birth. Got stamped in and he wished me the best. DOCTOR'S VISIT Finally had my first visit to the OBGYN i was referred to this week. Referral was done by a family physician from a walk in clinic. My advise is if you cant get an OBGYN by urself who accepts self pay patients, come into the country earlier and go into a walk in clinic to see a General physician who will then do the referral for you to several doctors. There will definitely be one who will take you. The only reason why it is good to look for the OBGYN yourself ahead of time is to make the referral and acceptance process easier and faster. Family Physician consultation fee- $60 Had to do blood work and ultrasound which had to be sent to the OBGYN prior to my first visit to OBGYN Ultrasound- $182 Blood Work- $94 OBGYN First visit- $200 Subsequent Visit will be $100 per visit Doctors Delivery Fee (This varies from doctor to Doc Budget between 1600 and 2500 for VD) for doctors in Oshawa/Whitby Region Hospital i will be using Lakeridge Health Ajax Pickering (Rouge Valley Ajax Pickering) Hospital Charge $2000 for mother if in general ward (4 in a room) $2285 for private ward $100 bloodwork If Ultrasounds are required ($300) $620 baby charge $100 bloodwork If xrays are reqd $300. This is all the info i have so far for those who need approx cost. and guidance on the process. Special thanks to "The Specialist" who assisted me on this process. I am grateful, you deserve plenty Accolades PS: you can look up the OBGYNs who practice in the hospital above and give them a call if they will be willing to take self pay patient and ask for their price. Then once you come into Canada, the referral process becomes easy. Waiting for my LO to arrive. Sorry for the long story- just trying to help as much as possible. 14 Likes |

Start with the first thing by applying for the Visit VISA as early as you can. Make sure to have all supporting docs to show proof that you can financially afford childbirth there and strong enough ties that you will return back home after your child birth. You can also submit proof that you paid fully for your childbirth care in the US when you had your first child as they may be wondering why you are not going for your second child in US. Find a way to mention that you wil be availing medical service in Canada on your application so all is clear to them. While your appliation is ongoing, mkae sure you are researching Location to stay, and doctor at the same time as well as accomodateion etc. Dont wait till u get the visa before you start this process. Wish you the best... Mrsc22: |

dserious: Hi, At 36 weeks now, it seems a little tight to get an OB GYN that will accept you but its not impossible. Please check for www.ratemds.com for possible obgyns in the area and start calling them to see if any of them can accept you as a self pay patient. If you are lucky, then immediately u get to Canada you can go to a walk-in clinic and ask them to refer you to the OBGYN that accepts you. I wish you the best 3 Likes 2 Shares |

Hi Omodun, Can you please confirm if you eventually used Dr Grace Mariapillai and if you did when was that? I called their office and was surprised they mentioned they dont take self pay international patients. Thanks for your feedback Omodun: |

Hello house Just wanted to share my update.... I called the office of Dr Grace of Humber River yesterday and what i was told was they do not take cash payment anymore that i have to have get the OHIS /Health card when i am in canada before i can book appointment with them. Was a lil surprised as i though they attended to international patients as well as Hotstepper had earlier recommended. I also called Dr kayode's office and got below Quote 3500 CAD (Dr's charge which which covers all hospital visits till delivery, the actual delivery and one post parturm visit at 6 weeks) 2000 CAD for one night in Hosital for Mother 600 CAD for one night for Baby Does anyone has any other Doctor of Humber River that i can contact to check prices also before i finalize. @TheSpecialist can you share your Oshawa doctor's name or contact? 4 Likes 1 Share |

lovingT: Hi Loving T, In order to boost your chances of getting a canada visa approved, you must show you have very well enough cash to pay for your medical. Your bank statement and current salary must echo that. Secondly, you must show strong ties that you will return after your intended visit. If you can echo these two points on your application, then you can mention medical and tourist in purpose of your visit. At 12 weeks gone, time is running out but you can still try. Provide as much supporting docs as you can and hope for the best. Better to try than not try at all. Wishing you all the best!! 1 Like |

Hello my people, LONG POST ALERT!!! Weldone and thanks to everyone keeping this thread alive I don dey read this thread for the past two weeks (from page 1 oh), in fact the page is permanently opened on my browser and i just keep reading in my spare time plus taking a lot of screenshots for future reference Like someone said, this thread should be a taking and also giving back thread (Not only taking without sharing your experience), I will start sharing my experience as it goes and will keep on updating as I progress on this journey. In 2015 I applied for US tourist visa and got a 2year entry. At POE in US told CBP i was also going to have my baby in the US along with the vacation. Baby came, all bills paid got zero balance from doctor and hospital. Fast forward to 2017, myself and hubby wanted to renew the visa, VO said why didnt we declare in the first interview that we wanted to have baby in the US. Told the VO that the initial VO who interviewed us did not ask any question on that and the plan was only to visit. He would have any of our story. Long story short, he denied us the visa. Then I decided to try the Canada route. Read this forum like crazy to understand how to go about the application especially when you have been denied a US visa. After a lot of reading and digesting, myself and hubby summoned courage to apply for the TR visa. Plan was that we would travel for a visit in December as a tourist and then use that opportunity to see if we could scout for a doc/Gynae/settle accommodation plans etc and then next year when baby is due will travel for child birth. We submitted the application (via Paper route) went to VFS to submit all the requested supporting docs. This was on 22nd Oct. Exactly 10 calendar days after submitting the application, hubby got a call from the Canada embassy. Basically he was asked for the reason why we were refused a US visa. He then clearly explained to the Canadian VO that we were not no sufficient ties back home. He also mentioned that we had our baby there as well but all the bills were paid in full. Apparently the Canadian embassy had also called the US embassy people to find out why we were not given the visa but they did not give any convincing answer to the Canadian embassy hence the reason the Canadian embassy called us to find out further. Also during the convo, the Canadian VO then asked my husband if I was currently pregnant. My husband said yes and that we plan to also have the baby there next year but the reason for the initial visit was for tourism. The Canadian VO was like it is not illegal or a crime to go to Canada to give birth. If you have sufficient fund to cover it, you would most likely be given. They even called my husband’s company HR manager to confirm if salary certificate which we provided was correct (no be small thing). Long story short, he told us to send receipts of our medical bills in the US as well as the refusal document which was received from US embassy. We sent all the details to him and even put the US hospital and doctor’s contact info to call them if they have any doubts. Exactly one week after sending all the details, we received a mail from the Canadian embassy to come and drop our passports. Got our passports back today. Mine stamped Multiple entry till 2021 hubby till 2019 as passport expires in 2019. My peace of mind is that I have clearly declared to the VO that I would be giving birth so I no get fear for POE issues. In my opinion, Canada Embassy processes your VISA in a fairer manner than US. They take time to review your documents properly and then make a decision based on that. But US ehn, its like before you even show up at the embassy, they have already made a decision without checking your docs.. Now unto the next stage of preparation, Accommodation /OB GYN/Hospital to use. As I no get family for Canada, Ontario will be my best bet as I can see from people’s review on this thread that it seems to be a relatively less expensive to birth there. I will start contacting the hospitals and docs now. @Hotstepper, please help a sister out. How can you assist with accommodation options available and which city do you recommend I stay in (Brampton or Toronto)? Which is easier to move around in? Do you have anyone I can contact in arranging accommodation for a 2 month period. Also I have contacts of Dr Ayodele and Dr Abou of Brampton hospital and I have the Dr Grace contact of humber river. I just need to understand if I should call the doctor first or the hospital first or do I have to first get a Family Doctor who will then refer me to the hospital/Doctor. As I don’t have family doctor, please help if you can refer me to someone. Thanks a lot and look forward to your feedback. Any other preggy mama bound for Ontario around April/May 2018 who doesn’t mind sharing accommodation? I need to plan this waka well in advance. Thanks a lot to everyone and wishing every mama out there a safe one!!! 19 Likes 2 Shares |

Hi Kilan, I live in UAE and had my baby in Houston early this year. I got my VISA just when i was about 3months along. During the interview I wasnt asked if i was pregnant and at the time i had not finalized if i was going to give birth in the US so i there was no need to disclose this info. I flew Delta via Atlanta to avoid Houston POE. Atlanta POE experience was a breeze..the CBP guy was even gisting with us. All i can advise is to really research which city you want to stay, review the hospitals, seacrh for OB GYN attached to the hospitals, call and ask for self pay patients rates. get all the details, ask them to recommend accomodation around the hospital. Houston is quite affordable...(in my opinion) Wishing you the best... kilam111: 1 Like |

tundejoseph4: Why would you want to settle for a security job as an elect elect graduate. I bet you, its not worth it. The average salary of a security personnel here in UAE is 1200-1500 aed. you cant even afford to get a bed space with that talk less of saving anythin up for yourself. The standard of living here is ridiculously high. I would suggest you look for something decent in Naija. 1 Like |
