Nigeria’s Super Eagles left Nigeria on Wednesday afternoon to the United Kingdom, in preparation for the Russia FIFA World Cup, which kicks off on June 14.

Nigeria will play with England on Saturday 2 June and then leave for Austria before embarking on the journey to Russia, where they will face Croatia on 16 June.

Sports / Mohamed Salah Makes Exit Demand, Real Madrid And Man Utd Keen - Report by olamariamjonez(m): 11:24pm On May 30, 2018
The Egypt international was sensational under Jurgen Klopp this season, with the former Chelsea ace netting 44 goals in all competitions.

Salah, 25, has been tipped to quit Anfield this summer, with Real Madrid tracking the winger.

And according to Spanish news outlet Don Balon, Salah has told his agent to sort his Liverpool exit.

However, they reckon Manchester United and Manchester City are also in the hunt for Salah.

Real, United and City are all capable of paying Liverpool’s asking price for the Egypt star, which is reportedly around £175m.

Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho, who is expected to splash the cash this summer, sold Salah during his time at Chelsea.

Mourinho wants to spend big to keep up with City next season after watching Pep Guardiola’s men storm to the Premier League title this year.

However, Liverpool remain determined to keep hold of their prized asset and would not entertain the idea of selling to their Premier League rivals.

Celebrities / Nigerian Superstar David Adeleke, ‘davido’ Teaching Wizkid Lesson In Fatherhood by olamariamjonez(m): 4:01pm On May 27, 2018
Taking a first look at Nigerian superstar pop artiste, David Adeleke, popularly known as ‘Davido’, from a distance, one would be tempted to think he lacks the charisma to be a doting father. But such is hardly the case with the multi-award winning singer, record label CEO and recently, manager. After a rigorous, meticulous investigation,  Potpourri  discovered that in spite of his tight schedule, ever since the birth of his daughters,  Imade Aurora Adeleke and Hailey Veronica Adeleke, he has always made out time to express love and care for them anytime the opportunity presents itself.

The very first sign that Davido would be a doting father was when he named his first daughter, Imade, after his late mother, on May 14, 2015, after which he made series of fatherly promises to protect her till his last breath and be her everything, from a friend to a bodyguard.

Critics would’ve thought his busy schedule or lifestyle would prevent him from spending quality time with or taking care of Imade, but surprisingly it didn’t. Photos of him bottle-feeding her surfaced online, he took her on her first trip overseas at 4-months old, and he shared a video of him dressing her up, all indications that he is always there for her, even though he may not be at best of terms with her mother, Sophia Momodu, his first babymama.

When she finally grew old enough to begin schooling, he gave everything to ensure he experienced it firsthand as he shared photos of her first day at school on his Snapchat page. Basking in the euphoria of seeing his toddling daughter babbling his 2017 Song of the Year, IF, he made a video of her and posted it on social media.

Technology Market / Whatsapp Blocked Millions Of UK Users From Accessing The Chat App by olamariamjonez(m): 3:32pm On May 27, 2018
WhatsApp has enforced a major change which has left millions of users in Britain banned from using the chat app.

WhatsApp is the world’s most popular chat app, with over 1.5billion people using its services each and every month across the globe.

The popularity of the chat app was underlined by the huge amount of messages sent on its record breaking day on New Year’s Eve 2017.

On that day 75billion messages were sent including 13billion photos and five billion videos - despite a major outage.

But now millions of people that enjoy WhatsApp’s services will be unable to use the chat app in Britain.

The Facebook-owned messenger for iOS, Android and desktop will no longer allow people under the age of 16 to use it.

Until recently, WhatsApp had allowed those aged 13 years-old and above to join the messaging service in the UK.

However, on Friday May 25 2018 the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) kicked into force.

The EU’s data privacy laws give the public more rights over how personal information is used and it raises the amount that firms can be fined if they breach it.

As a result, those who do not meet the new minimum age requirement for WhatsApp will no longer be able to use the hugely-popular messaging service.

WhatsApp said that it was not asking for any new rights to collect personal information as part of its updated terms of service.

The company said: "Our goal is simply to explain how we use and protect the limited information we have about you.”

WhatsApp said their update ensured it could "meet the new high standards of transparency for how we protect the privacy of our users".

In the weeks running up to GDPR becoming official on May 25, WhatsApp users reported online that they had been asked in advance to confirm they were over 16.

Any WhatsApp users that did not verify their age before GDPR going live yesterday will have to do so now to continue using the chat app.

Sports / UCL Final: Liverpool Forward Mohamed Salah Suffers Suspected Dislocated Shoulder by olamariamjonez(m): 11:38pm On May 26, 2018
Liverpool and Egypt forward Mohamed Salah is a doubt for the World Cup after suffering a suspected dislocated shoulder during his club's 3-1 Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.

Salah left the pitch in tears after being pulled down by Real's Sergio Ramos when the game was goalless.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp said Salah was due to have an X-ray.

"It doesn't look good," added the German after the game.

Asked whether Salah was a doubt for the World Cup in Russia, which starts on 14 June, Klopp added: "Yes. It's unbelievable. It's something with the shoulder obviously."

Salah, who has scored 44 goals for the club this season, tried to carry on after the incident in the 26th minute.

However, he was forced to leave the pitch a few minutes later and was replaced by Adam Lallana.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed an excellent first season at Anfield after joining from Roma for £34m last June.

Salah was leading scorer in the Premier League with 32 goals as Jurgen Klopp's side finished fourth in the table - the record for most goals in a 38-game season.

Politics / Former Anambra (SSG), Blames Elite For National Problem by olamariamjonez(m): 5:08am On May 25, 2018
Mr. Oseloka Obaze, a former Secretary to the Anambra State Government (SSG), has blamed the elite for the numerous problems confronting the country.

Obaze, who was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Nov. 18, 2017 Anambra Governorship election, spoke at the public presentation of his book titled` `Prime Witness-Change and Policy Challenges in Buhari’s Nigeria,’’ on Thursday in Abuja.

Obaze said the book was a public policy interrogation and not about criticisms of the Buhari administration.

He said the book contained a modicum of commendation, recommendations, solutions and possible remedial measures.

“I believe that many of us here represent a national class the national elite of which I am a member.

“I also believe that the numerous problems we face nationally are self-inflicted and of our own making; if our public policies and governance efforts are weak, it is because our institutions are weak.

“If our institutions are weak, it is because we prefer them that way; policy challenges do not happen in a vacuum, and they are not always externally induced as they are products of domestic and partisan considerations.

“It behooves on us, therefore, especially those in the academia, think tanks, the media and policy consultancies, to continue evaluating policies as they evolve,’’ he said.

He said the book was not a political book even though he belonged to the political class as he had started writing the book before he decided to run for the Anambra election.

Obaze said the strength of government at any juncture in Nigeria’s democracy would hinge on sustaining the building blocks of democracy through the rule of law, power sharing, proper representation, checks and balances, leadership and elite accountability among others.

Reviewing the book, Prof. Emeka Aniagolu, Author and Executive Director, Research, Innovation and Development Fides Et Ratio, Limited, Abuja, said book meandered from criticism and sympathetic hearing.

Crime / The Chairman Of Innoson Motors’ Declared Wanted by olamariamjonez(m): 4:50am On May 25, 2018
The Chairman of Innoson Motors, Mr. Innocent Chukwuma, has been declared wanted by a Special Offences Court sitting in Lagos.

He was declared wanted on Thursday following his continuous refusal to attend court proceedings for his alleged fraud trial.

Justice Mojisola Dada issued the bench warrant for his arrest after he failed to appear in court for his arraignment for the fifth time.

Chukwuma who is standing trial in a matter between his company and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had previously failed to make an appearance in court for his arraignment on Jan. 17, Feb. 9, March 14 and April 25.

He was arraigned alongside his company for allegedly forging documents to facilitate the clearing of some goods at the port.

Specifically, he was alleged to have forged documents purportedly emanating from GTB Bank.

The issue, however, degenerated as Innoson alleged victimization and harassment by the EFCC and GTB Bank.

Sports / Arsenal's New Coach, Emery, Impresses At First News Conference by olamariamjonez(m): 2:53am On May 24, 2018
The Unai Emery era began in earnest at Arsenal on Wednesday as the former Paris Saint-Germain manager was presented as the club's new head coach. Arsene Wenger's successor appearedalongside chief executive Ivan Gazidis at a news conference at the Emirates to lay out his plans for how to turn the Gunners back into title contenders. He faced a packed auditorium that came to hear what Arsenal's first managerial hire in 22 years had to say.

Here's how he got on:

First impression
Emery clearly isn't afraid to tackle a challenge even when it comes to language. As if replacing Arsene Wenger isn't tough enough, Emery insisted on conducting most of his news conference in English even though he's still coming to grips with the language. That meant he wasn't able to express most of his ideas as clearly as he might have wished but he still managed to say most of the right things. He presented his vision of attack-minded football while paying tribute to Wenger and talking up the strength of the current squad.

On the whole, it was a confident display by the Spaniard and showed he's ready to dive head-first into life in the Premier League. Given his reputation for having a near-obsessive attention to preparation and detail, one can assume that his English will be a lot more fluent by the start of the season.

Appearance
Emery very much looked the part in a dark gray suit, white shirt and red tie: an outfit similar to what Wenger often wore during games. It was the classic managerial look without any frills, which is probably what we can expect from Emery on the touchline as well.

Politics / Vice President Yemi Osinbajo Worries Over Killings by olamariamjonez(m): 2:26am On May 24, 2018
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is worried that hundreds of innocent lives have been lost this year alone and vowed that the incessant killings must stop.

He urged leaders to rise to the challenge of ending the senseless killings of Nigerians.

The Vice President expressed his worries on Wednesday at a leadership and stakeholders’ meeting in Lafia, the Nasrawa state capital as part of his assessment visit over the recent security challenges in the state.

He recalled several killings resulting from farmers and herdsmen crisis in the region since 2006.

He said the responsibility of finding solutions to the problems rest on the leaders, adding that there was no need to shift blames or point accusing fingers.

“It is very important we recognize that the place of leadership is so critical in the resolution of all the problems of this state and of our nation.

“Leadership loses relevance where there is no peace and the people are running all over the place and are unable to find security.

Politics / PMB Yet To Receive 2018 Budget by olamariamjonez(m): 2:14am On May 24, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari has yet to receive the 2018 budget, one week after it was passed by the National Assembly.

The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udo Udoma, disclosed after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday.

The Minster said reports credited to him as saying that the President will not sign the budget were false as he was even yet to receive the budget.

“The President is yet to receive the budget. It is, therefore, impossible to make a statement about the budget that has not been received.

“Once we get it, we will work very quickly on it.”

“When it is submitted, I am sure the National Assembly themselves will inform Nigerians,” Udoma said.

The National Assembly on May 16, six months after it was presented, passed a total of N9.120 trillion, an increase of N508 billion from the N8.612 trillion originally presented to the Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Sports / It's The Right Time To Change The Chapter And Leave Manchester City - Yaya Toure by olamariamjonez(m): 4:33am On May 22, 2018
Yaya Toure has told Sky Sports pundit Thierry Henry that while now is the right time to leave Manchester City, he still wants to continue playing.

The midfielder announced recently that he would be ending his eight-year stay at the Etihad this summer having made 316 appearances in total for the club.

However, Toure feels that after winning seven major trophies at City - including last season's Premier League - the time has now arrived to write a new chapter in his career.

"After such long service like that, eight years, it is not easy," Toure said in an exclusive one-on-one chat with his former Barcelona team-mate Henry. "It will be sad because I will miss my team-mates.

"If you see everything throughout my career, all the personal trophies I have been able to achieve have only been at City, because they give me such belief in myself.

"And make me achieve another level because the club have been so good to me and the fans have been good with me.

Sports / New Manager Unai Emery Taking Over From Wenger At Arsenal by olamariamjonez(m): 3:45am On May 22, 2018
Former Paris Saint-Germain coach Unai Emery looks set to become Arsene Wenger’s successor after 22 years as Arsenal manager, according to a report by the BBC.

Emery, 46, won Ligue 1 and four domestic cups in two seasons in the French capital before departing earlier this month.

However, the Spaniard paid for his failure to get PSG beyond the last 16 of the Champions League in his two seasons at the Parc des Princes.

“Emery emerged as the unanimous choice following a recruitment process in which all candidates were spoken to,”  the BBC reported.

PSG had previously reached four consecutive Champions League quarter-finals following the Qatari takeover of the club in 2011, but Emery oversaw a humiliating defeat to Barcelona in the last 16 a year ago, losing 6-1 at the Camp Nou after a 4-0 win in the first leg.

The club then committed to spending 400 million euros ($483 million) on Neymar and Kylian Mbappe alone — the two most expensive transfer deals in history — last year, but Paris were eliminated in the last 16 again this year, going out to Real Madrid.

“We lost against Real but they are showing that they are maybe still the strongest team in Europe,” said Emery when announcing his departure.

Manchester City’s coach, Pep Guardiola, has committed himself to the club until the summer of 2021, the club said via its website on Thursday.

“City are delighted to announce that Pep Guardiola has signed a contract extension that will see him remain as manager until the end of the 2020-21 campaign,” the statement said.

Education / Federal Government Urged To Reduce Number Of Universities by olamariamjonez(m): 11:42pm On May 16, 2018
Rivers state Head of Service, Rufus Godwins, has urged Federal Government to reduce the number of universities in the country to enhance quality and performance.

Godwins made the call at a public lecture organised by the `Claude Ake Chair of Political Economy’, in collaboration with the University of Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

The theme of the discourse was ‘Shattered Towers and Tattered Gowns: Redefining the Nigeria University System.’

Godwins said the nation’s universities lagged behind when compared to its counterparts in other parts of the world due to poor funding; poor policy implementation and quality of teaching.

“If we are determined as a nation to tackle the menace of secret cults, sexual scandals and other vices prevalent in our university system, then we will be good for it.

Sports / Atletico Lift Europa Cup, Antoine Griezmann Shines by olamariamjonez(m): 11:35pm On May 16, 2018
Antoine Griezmann was the hero for Atletico Madrid as the French striker scored twice in their 3-0 win over Marseille in Wednesday’s Europa League final, allowing his club to win the trophy for the third time in nine seasons.

It is Griezmann’s first major title as an Atletico player, and a fitting way to bow out if he leaves at the season’s end, with Barcelona tipped as his next destination.

Griezmann — brought up in Macon, just 70 kilometres from Lyon — scored once in each half, his lethal finishes coming either side of Marseille losing Dimitri Payet to injury, the French side’s captain coming off in tears.

He now has 29 goals for the season, although it was Gabi’s late strike that put the seal on the victory.

Marseille had been desperate to win the second European trophy in their history, on French soil, 25 years after beating AC Milan in the inaugural Champions League final in Munich.

Sports / Jack Wilshere And Joe Hart Left Out Of England's World Cup Squad by olamariamjonez(m): 1:10am On May 16, 2018
Goalkeeper Joe Hart and midfielder Jack Wilshere have been left out of England's World Cup squad by Gareth Southgate, BBC Sport has learned.

Hart, 31, who has won 75 caps, has had a poor season, conceding 39 goals in 19 Premier League games for West Ham - on loan from Manchester City.

Arsenal's 26-year-old Wilshere, who has had an injury-plagued career, managed 38 appearances this season.

Southgate reveals his 23-man squad for the tournament in Russia on Wednesday.

Hart has been England's first-choice goalkeeper for the last three major tournaments - Euro 2012, the 2014 World Cup and Euro 2016, as well as the qualifiers for this summer's event - but he has only played in one of the past five games under Southgate.

Politics / Without Npdp, Buhari Will Win Again - Nasir El-rufai by olamariamjonez(m): 12:48am On May 16, 2018
Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state has dismissed the fears that Buhari’s electoral value would diminish if the aggrieved members of the nPDP pull out of the ruling All Progressives Congress government.

In an interview with State House correspondents in Abuja on Tuesday, El-Rufai said President Buhari would be re-elected, with or without the threatening former PDP members.

“I don’t agree and I want to go back to 2003. What are we talking about? Who are these new PDP people that are threatening? This is Kwara, Kano, Sokoto, Adamawa, Rivers but I don’t think Amaechi is part of them.

“So let’s take these four states, go back to 2003 and check. Buhari then under ANPP won in all these four states. Go back to 2007, Buhari won in these four states. Even when Shakarau was running as a presidential candidate in 2011, Buhari defeated him in Kano.

“And, I have no doubt in my mind that even if the people threatening to leave, leave, it will have absolutely no impact on the presidential elections, the president will win Sokoto, Kwara and Adamawa easily.

“Kano is already in the bag, I mean if you saw the crowd that welcome the president without the former governor Kwankwaso, Kano has always been the president’s base.

“Fayemi will suffer the worst defeat of his political career. After the July 14 election, he will go into political oblivion. “He has nothing to celebrate because of the electoral disaster awaiting him.

The manner of his so-called victory also leaves much to be desired as it has turned many of their party leaders and followers against him”, he added.

Fayose then appealed to those trampled under feet by Fayemi, especially those of them who were members of PDP, to return home. “PDP is your natural habitat.

Religion / 8 Ways To Succeed By Being Yourself by olamariamjonez(m): 10:42pm On May 12, 2018
It's tough to enjoy life when you don't like yourself. People who haven't learned to accept and get along with themselves tend to have more difficulty accepting and getting along with others.Yet, the Bible repeatedly tells us to "love your neighbor as yourself." I personally spent years having a hard time getting along with people, until I finally realized through the Word of God how my difficulty with other people was actually "rooted" in my difficulties with myself.

The Bible says a good tree will bear good fruit, and a rotten tree will bear rotten fruit. Likewise, the "fruit" of our lives comes from the "root" within us. If you're rooted in shame, guilt, inferiority, rejection, lack of love and acceptance, etc., the fruit of your relationships will suffer. However, once you have a revelation of God's unconditional love for you and begin to accept yourself and others, eventually these new roots will produce good fruit, and your relationships will thrive.

Here are a few tips I believe will help you succeed at being yourself
1. Never say or think negative things about yourself, such as, "I never do anything right." "I'll never change." "I'm ugly." "I look terrible." "I'm dumb." "Who could ever love me?" Matthew 12:37 says, ...by your words you will be justified..., and by your words you will be condemned…. Proverbs 23:7 says, …as [a man] thinketh in his heart, so is he. In other words, the way we talk and think about ourselves reveals how we feel about ourselves.

2. Speak good things about yourself (as private confessions) in line with what the Word says about you. For example: "I am the righteousness of God in Christ." "I am made acceptable in the Beloved." "God created me and formed me with His own hands, and God doesn't make mistakes." I like starting the day making good confessions. Perhaps you can do this while you're driving to work or cleaning house. I also encourage you to look in the mirror and say out loud, "God loves and accepts you, and so do I." You may even try hugging yourself. This is beneficial to people who have lacked love and acceptance in their lives.

3. Never compare yourself with other people. God must love variety or He wouldn't have created us all differently—even down to our fingerprints. You'll never succeed at being yourself if you're trying to be like someone else. Other people can be a good example to you, but duplicating even their good traits will manifest differently through your individual personality.

4. Focus on your potential instead of your limitations. Actress Helen Hayes was told early in her career that if she were four inches taller she'd be the greatest actress of her time. Her coaches tried various methods of stretching her, but nothing increased her height. She refused to concentrate on the supposed limitation of being five feet tall and decided to concentrate on her potential. As a result, she was eventually cast as Mary, Queen of Scotland—one of the tallest queens who ever lived.

5. Find something you like to do that you do well, and do it over and over. If you spend your time doing things you're not good at, it'll frustrate you and cause you to feel defeated and unsuccessful.
