The news was published on Monday, April 30, by the service in a public notice signed by the secretary to the board.

Akinkunle Olunloyo, son of former governor old Oyo State, Dr Victor Olunloyo, was on Monday brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly defrauding a financial institution to the tune of N40 million. Olunloyo, 40, a former night club owner, was charged alongside his entertainment firm, Code Media Ltd, by the Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU), Lagos.

They are standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and fraud.

Police Prosecutor Sylvester Azubuike told the court that Olunloyo and others still at large, committed the offences sometime in November 2014 in Lagos.

He said the accused fraudulently obtained N40 million under guise of using it to renovate his company’s entertainment premises and hall.

The meeting was confirmed by Buhsri’s Personal Assistant on New Media, Ahmad Bashir, via his Twitter handle.

The meeting holding at the Oval office, is centered around “Security, Economy, Nigeria-US relationships.”

President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived Washington D.C. in readiness for a meeting with US President Donald Trump on Monday.

As a guest of the US Government, President Buhari is staying at Blair House, the US President’s guest house.

The Blair House used to be a complex of four formerly separate buildings—but a major renovation between 1950s and 1980s strung them together as a single facility.

The President’s Guest House has been called “the world’s most exclusive hotel” because it is primarily used to host visiting dignitaries and other guests of the president. It is larger than the White House and closed to the public.

It was a mourning Sunday as many churches in Makurdi Benue State, complied with the directive of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to protest the killings in different parts of the country by herdsmen and those under the captivity of Boko Haram.

Christian faithful wore black and white attires as a mark of mourning for the murdered catholic priests and parishioners of St Ignatius Church, Mbalom, Gwer East Local Government Area.

It would be recalled that two Catholic priests, Rev. Father Joseph Gor and Rev. Father Felix Tyolaha, as well as 16 other worshippers were killed at the 5 a.m. mass of the church on April 24.

A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), who went round some churches in Makurdi, reports that most worshippers, regardless of denomination, wore black and white dresses to church.

Kanye West continues to mourn the loss of his mother Donda West.

On Saturday, the 40-year-old rapper tweeted another text conversation with one of his friends, this time revealing the cover art for his forthcoming album.

“This is my album cover. This is plastic surgeon Jan Adams. The person who performed my moms final surgery. Do you have any title ideas?” West wrote along with a photo of the California doctor who operated on Donda before her sudden November 2007 death.

“I want to forgive and stop hating,” the husband of Kim Kardashian West texted to his friend named Wes, who wrote back, “LOVE EVERYONE.” (West has been known to be close friends with director Wes Anderson as well as his G.O.O.D. artist Sheck Wes.)

In January 2008, the Los Angeles coroner determined that Donda died of heart disease while suffering from “multiple post-operative factors” after plastic surgery. Apple CEO Tim Cook has nothing but praise for augmented reality, saying it's a technology that's potentially as important as the iPhone. It turns out he may have big plans for virtual reality too.

The company is working on a headset capable of running both AR and VR technology, according to a person familiar with Apple's plans. Plans so far call for an 8K display for each eye -- higher resolution than today's best TVs -- that would be untethered from a computer or smartphone, the person said.

The project, codenamed T288, is still in its early stages but is slated for release in 2020. Apple still could change or scrap its plans.

It's notable that Apple is working on a headset that combines both AR and VR given its intense focus over the past year on pushing augmented reality in iPhones and iPads. Cook has said he sees bigger possibilities in AR than VR, partly because augmented reality allows you to be more present. Either way, it's vital for Apple to expand beyond its iPhones, currently its top moneymaker, and the slowing mobile market.

The law has finally caught up with a fake lawyer Samson Obu, after allegedly acting for three years as a counsel.

The 43-year-old, residing at No. 5, Imam St., Owutu, Agric in Ikorodu, near Lagos, was docked an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, on a count charge of impersonation, following suspicion raised by some lawyers.

According to the Prosecutor, Sgt. John Iberedem, the accused had appeared in the court on April 5 to represent an accused.

“He announced his appearance for an accused and quoted a wrong section, which was what aroused the suspicion of other lawyers, including Mr Adetayo Ladega.

“Ladega, the Vice-President of the Ikorodu Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association and other lawyers challenged Obu and he was interrogated and arrested by the police.

“The accused has been appearing as a lawyer for the past three years,” the prosecutor said.

Iberedem said the offence contravened Section 78 of the Lagos State Criminal Code, 2015.

Obu, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), says it will commence the verification of signatures of those seeking the recall of Sen. Dino Melaye on April 28.

INEC Federal Commissioner, Mr Mohammed Haruna, made the disclosure at a stakeholders meeting on Wednesday in Lokoja over the commencement of the recall process.

He explained that the verification exercise would hold in 552 polling units in seven local governments under Kogi West senatorial district.

According to him, the verification will hold from 8 am to 2 p.m. using the card reading machines to authenticate the voter cards of those that signed the recall petition.

“Only those who signed the petition are expected to turn up at their polling units for verification,” Haruna said.

Also speaking, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner for the state, Prof. James Apam said that local observers would be allowed to monitor the exercise.

A 50-year-old man, Taiwo Oyelabi has been arrested by the Lagos State police command for impregnating his 21-year-old daughter.

The suspect, Oyelabi, a resident who lives at No 15 Community Road, Obadore, Iba, Lagos was arrested for sexually abusing and impregnating his 21-year-old twin daughter, Miss Taiwo Nibilia Oyelabi.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Edgal Imohimi, disclosed this on Monday while parading the suspect before journalists at the Command’s Headquarters.

Imohimi said the case was reported to the police on April 16, adding that the crime was allegedly committed at the suspect’s resident at No. 15, Community Road, Iyana-Iba in Igando.

“The incident started in November, 2017 when the daughter, who was staying with her paternal aunt relocated to the father’s house on his request.

“Since then, he has been having inappropriate sexual liaison with her, the result of the unholy act between father and daughter eventually led to pregnancy.

“Investigations into the case revealed that the suspect is a security man but whenever he was going to work, he goes with the daughter.

Why should I stop now when the obstacle is only an opportunity? My persistence will prevail, what is at the end I do not know but I have started and so I have to finish. They said it wouldn’t work and that I have to let go. Do I listen to them or do I forge ahead? I have to make this decision if I am to make progress. I am a strong believer, and my belief is what keeps me going even in the midst of fear. For there is the saying that “fear is the glue that keeps you stuck whereas belief is the solvent that sets you free”.

I believe in hard work and also in reward. Winners have one thing in common, they’ve all made mistakes before. So it is okay to make mistakes, but it is also important to know your mistakes, if you will ever get passed them. I believe in second chances. More also, I believe that you can be surprised by life and all can end well. The beginning doesn’t matter only interested in where I am going.

There was a singer who loved to sing, he aspired to become one of the greatest musician the world has ever seen even though he lives in the most remote part of the world and has no money to feed three times daily and has never entered a studio. It is certain that he won’t make his dreams come true because he hasn’t made the necessary preparations.
If you can dream it you can do it, the road to your dream isn’t always so easy to navigate most times it is filled with mountains to climb obstacles to overcome and difficult times that will make you feel like quitting . Wanted Senator Dino Melaye reported that he was stopped from boarding a flight to Morocco this morning, after checking in.

The voluble Senator who had been declared wanted by the Nigerian police for alleged arming of some thugs posted the information on his Instagram and Twitter accounts this morning.

He said it was an arrest.

The police and DSS have not confirmed the veracity of the claim.

“Stopped from traveling and under arrest. No retreat no surrender. Talk we must”, Dino said on both his Instagram and Twitter accounts.

“I have just been arrested at the international wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe airport on my way to Morocco for an official engagement sponsored by the Federal Govt after checking in”, his earlier tweet read.

The Nation online said it spoke with the Senator on phone to confirm the arrest.

In an interview with The Punch, Dino described the drama of his arrest:

No fewer than four persons were killed and eight others wounded in a suicide bomb attack on Sunday at a mosque in Bama Local Government Area of Borno.

The attack came barely four weeks after thousands of displaced persons were resettled in the community.

The Chairman of the Council, Mr Baba-Shehu Gulumba, confirmed the incident to NAN that four persons were killed in the early morning attack.

Gulumba disclosed that two teenage suicide bombers, a male and female, infiltrated a mosque at Bama-Dina quarters and detonated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) strapped to their bodies.

He explained that the incident occurred at about 5: 00 am, when Muslims faithful gathered for early morning prayers.

Gulumba said that three persons died on the spot while one other died later at the Specialist Hospital, Maiduguri, adding that the wounded persons were also referred to the hospital for treatment.

We know that carrying around extra weight puts your heart health at risk. New research presented on Friday to the European Society for Cardiology shows that the location of your fat is just as important as the amount of it.

Adults with normal body mass index (BMI) and extra belly fat (termed “central obesity”) had a 79 percent higher risk of major cardiovascular events, compared to people who were mildly overweight but with normal fat distribution. This includes heart attack, stroke and death.

The study of nearly 1,700 citizens of Rochester, Minnesota, with 16 years of follow-up quantifies a risk that doctors already know about: There’s something about belly fat that makes it more dangerous than fat anywhere else.

Individuals with more belly fat, even with normal or near-normal weight, have above average rates of heart disease and diabetes. They have earlier overall mortality. Small studies have shown that individuals with central obesity are more likely to have worse cholesterol values, higher markers of inflammation and even lower resting metabolic rate than those without it.

What makes central obesity so bad?

This is an area of active research. There is probably more than one factor at play.

For the most part, central obesity is associated with low relative muscle mass, a sign of poor health. People with central obesity have extra fat inside the abdomen, surrounding the internal organs. This is known as visceral fat and it’s different than subcutaneous fat, or the fat just below the skin. Visceral fat tends to accumulate more in response to a high-stress state and in people with a sedentary lifestyle, both of which are linked to worse health outcomes.

What’s more, scientists are now exploring the concept of “lipotoxicity.” Visceral fat cells may release more fatty acids than other fat cells. These fatty acids also drain directly into the liver, where they collect and are distributed throughout the circulation. Free fatty acid build-up in the cells of the heart, pancreas and liver lead to problems with these organs -- decreased heart function, impaired processing of cholesterol and poor regulation of blood sugar. These issues, in addition to putting someone at risk for heart disease and diabetes, are associated with diminished tolerance for exercise and tendency to gain more weight. It’s a vicious cycle.

Central obesity is sometimes, but not always, a sign of a hormone or metabolism disorder. That’s another reason to see a doctor about belly fat.

There’s probably a genetic component too. People with a set of features termed “metabolic syndrome” are predisposed to hold onto their extra fat primarily in the midsection, giving these individuals the so-called “apple-shaped” body. People with the metabolic syndrome also have higher rates of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. Whether they are at higher risk as a result of central obesity or whether there is another inherited process driving both weight gain and these disease conditions is the subject of ongoing research.

A shoemaker, Adekole Farajimi, accused of stealing seven pairs of shoes worth N35,000, was on Friday arraigned before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.

Farajimi allegedly sold some of the shoes a customer brought to him to repair and started wearing the rest.

The accused, whose address was not mentioned, was arraigned on a charge of stealing.

Prosecutor, Sgt. Akpan Ikem told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 7, at Ajara Vetho area of Badagry.

Ikem said that the shoes belonged to the complainant, Mr Segun Aladesunmi.

“The complainant brought the shoes for the accused to repair, and after the repairs, the accused sold some of the shoes and started wearing the others.

“The complainant reported the matter to the police and the accused was arrested,” he said.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Code of Lagos State, Nigeria 2011.

A fake Facebook account has been opened for President Muhammadu Buhari’s daughter, Zahra, the presidency alerted on Friday.

Femi Adesina, the president’s media adviser said the cloned account was the handiwork of mischief makers, who have taken the antics against the First Family to another level.

“Merchants of mischief have taken their antics against the first family further by creating a fake Facebook account in the name of Zahra, President Muhammadu Buhari’s daughter.

The fake account, conspicuously different from the authentic one, was used to post a message on April 17, 2018, at 9.07 a.m.

Motorola is introducing its newest range of Moto G and Moto E smartphones today, which will sell in the $100 to $300 range. While these aren’t high-end phones, they’re all important ones for Motorola: the Moto G remains Motorola’s best seller, and the company says it’s the top seller worldwide in its price class; the Moto E, which sells for slightly less, apparently isn’t far behind it.

In the Moto G line, Motorola is introducing the Moto G6 and G6 Play. (There will also be a G6 Plus, but it isn’t launching in the US, so we didn’t get a chance to see it.) The G6 and the G6 Play are similar looking phones, with curved edges on the back and 18:9 displays with thin bezels on the front. They feel nice, though the standard G6 gets closest to a flagship-level build, with a really nice Gorilla Glass back (at least until it picks up your fingerprints), instead of the polymer glass on the Play.

The G6 also includes dual rear cameras, which allow it to offer a portrait mode. I tried it out briefly, and while I wouldn’t say the results looked amazing (they have the same obviously fake blur and missed edges as other portrait mode photos), the pictures came out better than I expected for something far from a flagship phone. Motorola’s also including a bunch of other new camera features here, including an “active photo” mode that takes videos with each picture and built-in face filters.

The G6 Play has a 5.7-inch display as well, but it has a noticeable drop in resolution to somewhere just over 720p. It doesn’t look bad, but in comparison, you can tell it isn’t quite as sharp as on the standard G6. The Play only has a single 12-megapixel rear camera and a max configuration of 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage; its default model comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Its one major highlight, like most of Motorola’s Play series phones, is that it has a really large battery: 4,000mAh, in this case, which should last well over a day. The Galaxy S9 has a 3,000mAh battery, for comparison.

The Senate has resumed sitting after the incidence of Mace snatching by some men led by suspended Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.

Omo-Agege had led some unidentified men to Senate Chamber and forcibly took away the Mace which is the symbol of authority of the upper chamber.

The Senate has resumed sitting after the incidence of Mace snatching by some men led by suspended Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.

Omo-Agege had led some unidentified men to Senate Chamber and forcibly took away the Mace which is the symbol of authority of the upper chamber.

Reports from the Senate say that session is ongoing as being presided over by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.

President Muhammadu Buhari has visited British Prime Minister Theresa May at 10 Downing Street in London.The three-pronged focus of the Buhari administration resonated through the conversation, between Buhari and Theresa May.

“We campaigned on three major issues, to secure the country, revive the economy and fight corruption,” said the President. “We have elections next year, politicians are already preoccupied with the polls, but I am bothered more about security and the economy,” he stressed.

Recalling that Nigeria and Britain have a long history of cooperation on several fronts, President Buhari stated: “People ought to know how they arrived where they are, if they would move forward. It was a mistake for us to have stopped the teaching of history as a subject in schools, but we are returning it to the curriculum now.”

He commended British companies like Unilever, Cadbury, and many others, “who have stood with Nigeria through thick and thin. Even when we fought a Civil War, they never left.

“But like Oliver Twist, we ask for more investments. We are encouraging more British companies to come to Nigeria. We appreciate the support you have given in training and equipping our military, particularly in the war against insurgency, but we want to also continue to work with you on trade and investment.”

President Buhari briefed Prime Minister May on the strides in agriculture, which he said has put Nigeria firmly on the road to food self-sufficiency.

But the new study which involved researchers in the University of Melbourne’s Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute along with partners in the United States consistently demonstrated a reduction in atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeats) with increasing levels of caffeine ingestion.

The research analysed multiple population-based studies which involved 228,465 participants to find the frequency of atrial fibrillation decreased by 6 per cent in regular coffee drinkers, while a further analysis of 115,993 patients showed a risk reduction of 13 per cent.

“There is a public perception, often based on anecdotal experience, that caffeine is a common acute trigger for heart rhythm problems,’’ lead author Peter Kistler from the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute said.

“Our extensive review of the medical literature suggests this is not the case.’’

“Caffeinated beverages such as coffee and tea may have long term anti-arrhythmic properties mediated by antioxidant effects and antagonism of adenosine,’’ Kistler concluded.

The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Monday, said it arrested 115 members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria ( IMN) during a violent protest in Abuja.

The police also debunked stories in the social media that some lives were lost.

“No life was lost in the violent protest as the police operatives deployed to quell the protest were professional in handling the situation,” police spokesman,DSP Anjuguri Manzah said.

The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN ) reports that the leader of the sect, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky was arrested by the authorities after a clash with the convoy of the Chief of Army Staff in December 2015.

NAN also reports that the Shiites had organised several protests across the country demanding the release of their leader.

DSP Anjuguri Manzah, in a statement, said that the protesters also injured 22 policemen and destroyed government and police vehicles during the protest.

Anjuguri said that items recovered from them are: Catapults, Iron bars, Stones, Ball bearings and Pink head bands.

He said that the protesters also attacked innocent citizens, disrupted business activities, obstructed traffic and smashed windscreen of vehicles in the affected areas.

The Police in Enugu State have confirmed that two robbery and cultism suspects were beaten to death in the state by a mob after they were caught robbing a victim.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Ebere Amaraizu, said in a statement on Monday in Enugu that the suspects met their waterloo on Sunday.

He gave the names of the suspects as Okeme alias Pikin and Philip Onyebuchi alias Akwara.

Amaraizu said that the suspects had been terrorising residents of Abbi and Adani in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of the state through their alleged nefarious activities.

“Just as the saying goes, every day is for the thief but one day is for the owner of the house.

“It was gathered that on the fateful day, these suspected hoodlums emerged from the bush in their usual way to unleash mayhem on the innocent citizens.

“They were resisted by their victim who raised alarm.

“The alarm raised attracted the attention of angry mob from Abbi and Adani communities who immediately gave them hot chase.” he said.

The PPRO said that the mob allegedly beat the suspects and inflicted various degrees of injuries on them before police operatives could arrive at the scene.
