Well, I got the German Shepherd (as a puppy) while I was in portharcourt, from a friend who wanted to relocate, he owned the parent dogs which I saw and he said they were purely German Shepherd, I've not done any Gene test so I can't verify he's claim, but for the Labrador I got it from a vetenarian and I'm very sure it's a black labrador retriever, I never wanted to create cross breeds but I was away when they mated,

Here is a Labrador's picture from Google and thats what I have, its definitely not a great dane, their easy to differentiate, I don't know what similarity you saw in them
