FamilyRe: What Will You Do If You Have My Kind Of Parents? by OLAN2015: 8:07pm On Sep 19, 2020
SecretSpy666:
Greetings Nairalanders,
I want to seek for you peoples opinions regarding my family challenges.

I'm from a broken home. My parents divorced when I was a child of two years. I'm the only child from their union. My father and mother abandoned me and remarried to other spouse each. I passed through hell growing up with relatives who insulted me with all kinds of names and I was treated like a slave to their own children.

Because of public outcry about my dehumanizing treatment, my father came to village and took me to the city. It was from fry pan to fire experience as my father's new wife was maltreating me. At a point, my father asked me to leave his house that since my arrival, he don't have peace with his wife.

I packed to the house of a relative and work in a block industry to help myself. Most times, I slept in a CAC church close to the relative house as the two-room apartment is not enough for his family. My mother never care if I was alive. She never call me nor reply to letter I sent through someone to her. I continued working in the block industry and started a part time programme. I completed the part time programme and did my NYSC and master degree. I got a job with University of Ado Ekiti with the help of a course mate, managing myself now and surprisingly my mother and father started calling me often.

Both of them have 6 children each with their respective second spouse. Mother want his son to come and live with me, I refused and my father too have been requesting for financial assistance which I also refused. I don't want to have anything to do with both of them. My father's daughter recently called me to help her with school fees, I bluntly told her to ask her mother what she did to me and caught the call. Since then, she never call.

I'm alone and have just two friends. I don't have family. All of them calling now are just looking for what to get from me, not that they care about me. My mother never call me once to ask about my welfare even when I sent my phone number to her through her relative. I wrote WAEC, completed degree course before she started calling me and it is only to request for one thing or other. I'm planning to get married without telling them and build a separate family.
Let me advise you. My wife's experience is a bit similar to yours. The parents separated too when she was about 2 or 3 years. Please, forgive them but be very very very careful and cautious with your dealings with both of them. It's obvious they want to be close to you because you are now doing fine. You are very lucky to be a man which means your future marriage or wedding is not so dependent on their involvement . It would have been a bit challenging if you were a woman. Be wise but be very blunt in your relationship with them. Never ever accept the son of your mother's new husband (step brother) to stay with you. It may be a plot to monitor your life and pass information secretly to your estranged mother. But you can help him from a distance by sending any amount you can afford . Most importantly, be very watchful and prayerful. Handle them in your prayers but forgive them in your heart. But note, forgiving wicked people doesn't mean you should let go of your guards. Be wise as a serpent but harmless as a dove. We can live at peace with evil people without compromising our safe living. Don't say because you have forgiven them , they came have easy access to your life. Have they repented? Have they confessed their past evil lives? Have they apologized to you for their wickedness? Does their present life shows pertinence, remorse, kindness, humility and other attributes of someone who has really changed? If not, just relate with them as you would do with a wicked unbeliever which is by applying wisdom and peace.

Christianity EtcRe: Can A Non-tither Make Heaven? by OLAN2015: 3:37pm On Aug 16, 2020
Tithe paid by Abraham and Jacob before they law was a voluntary action. Tithes paid from the time of Moses till the time Malachi was written was commanded in the Law. Tithe paid by the Jews, Pharizees and Saduccees into the temple or synagogue during the time our LORD JESUS was on earth was still according to the law. However, after the death, ressurection and ascention of JESUS CHRIST to heaven and the Disciple/Apostles were driven out of the synagogues, there was never a mention or a record of any Christians paying tithes to the temple anymore . However, voluntary and generous giving was encouraged to the extent that people even sold their lands, gave their life, time , homes etc for the common growth of the Gospel. In the religion of the Jews, even circumcision is stronger than tithing. Hence, when Gentiles started coming into repentance, some zealous Jewish Christians told them to be circumcised and also keep the law of Moses. This cause serious disagreement or argument between these people and Apostle Paul/Barnanbas who believed circumcision or keeping the law of Moses is not necessary anymore. Hence, they wrote a letter to the Christain Elders/Apostles in Jerusalem to seek their advice or directive on these issues. The conclusion of the APOSTLES/ELDERS is this instruction they gave in Acts 15:19-20 ""It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God. Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood." These are the only aspects of the Old Testament laws that are still applicable fully even in Christianity till date because it can affect our holiness, sanctification and relationship with the Holy Spirit. However, having said this, as a servant or minister of GOD , I personally pay tithe but don't believe in collecting it from others . My reason for paying tithe is not because of avoiding curse but mainly to help in the propagation or growth of the GOSPEL. When ministers collect tithes from other, it should be used for the purpose for which it is collected. This well stated in Deuteronomy 26: 12........."and has given it (tithe) to the Levite, the stranger, the fatherless and the widow that they may eat within thy gates and be filled" and in Malachi 3: 10 ." 10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house," . This means tithe should be used to sustain or help the Levites (missionaries, full time ministers), the widow, fatherless, strangers etc. Tithe shoulnd't be gathered together as a source of wealth to buy private jets, build mansions, cathedrals etc while your missionaries , full time ministers, widows, orphans , the poor etc in your churches are suffering. If you want to build a new cathedral, buy jets, buses etc special donations or contributions can be raised for this . Paying tithe is not bad . What is bad is what many modern day Pastors have been doing with it. Some pastorpreneurs even used their tithes or offerings to venture into secular business or investments. Please fear GOD! The house of GOD is a place of prayer and not a market. Is this not similar to why JESUS CHRIST rebuked them in Matthew 21: 12 " Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. " Our LORD JESUS CHRIST catered for both the spiritual and physical needs of his followers. He gave them the Word. He gave them bread and fish. He gave them healing and many other great things. We can continue in that same attitude and action. We shouldn't be called Christians for nothing. Unbelievers should see our churches as the last and only hope in this futile world where the government and every other thing has failed them.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: My Near Death Experience While Working As A Mason by OLAN2015: 4:32pm On Aug 04, 2020
MrOjay1:
Last friday evening, my friend in the hood called me on phone to inform me of a job opening in an ongoing construction site somewhere around Agbara (Lagos).

He told me the pay is 2,300 per day depending on if you were able to finish the day's job.

I told him i was interested (no choice for a broke man) and asked him when we are to leave for the place. He said we'll leave for Agbara the next day early in the morning to get there on time and start with others.

'No wahala', I said.

We set off the next morning and got there before 7 or thereabouts. When the supervisor saw me said, 'oboy as you dey lenge lenge (slim) like this, you sure say you go fit do this kind work so??'

I told him i could. Shey no be my mates dey do am?

I started the work which was carrying mixed concrete and sand up into the second floor of the building.

The work no easy o. I wan die true to God but i just chinned up and continued. I worked like this till afternoon.

My body was telling me to stop but i continued being that i wanted my full pay for the day then something happened.

As i was climbing up the scaffolded stairs, my limbs had become weak and my eyes dazed, i had no energy left again to climb up to the second floor so while trying to muster up energy as i climbed, I mis-stepped my footings and was about falling off the stairs down to the ground laden with bamboo, nails, stones and co far below but was saved by the hand of another worker coming up the stairs behind me. He had already noticed my fatigue and signs of faint feeling.

My headpan had already crashed down the ground.

I wonder what would have happened to me. Probably would have died.

The supervisor heard of it and was furious, lambasting me saying,' shebi i tell you say you no fit do this work? Na so you for put me for trouble.Oya dey go house now now, he said as he put his hands in his pocket and brought out 1400 as my payment.

I protested and demanded my full payment but he wasn't listening and was threatening to call the police.

I left the place, went home and used half the money to treat the sprain and pains i was feeling all over my body.

PoliticsRe: Opunimi Akinkugbe: Buhari Gives Ondo Ambassador Slot To Rivers Indigene by OLAN2015: 11:46pm On Jul 01, 2020
Don't mind them jo! Because it benefits them they are shouting Tribalism. This is a Federal Govt appointment that is supposed to follow federal character. If it was the other way round, they will perhaps claim Buhari is favouring the West because of Tinubu or Osinbajo . At the moment, Rivers State has 2 slots while Ondo has 0. Greediness is worse than tribalism. Every state naturally protects their individual interests and this shouldn't be equated to tribalism. The selection wouldn't have been an issue if Rivers State wasn't given any other slot but they already had another one according to federal character. So this is pure cheating that should be addressed.

2mch:
So if she divorce the husband will she remain Ondo origin? We have seen how the First Lady of Ondo state has more allegiance to her state of origin than Ondo. So the people’s objection to this choice is valid. The First Lady has set a bad precedence that will haunt others. An indigene should get the slot. Because of marriage they cannot be overriding the rights of indigenes in the state. Most marriages are temporary these days.

What is the problem with these people, someone that was legally married to any man is a citizen of the man's country or state.
Their so much hypocrisy in many of the comments here. This is not a State appointment like many of you are quoting as examples. This is a Federal Government appointment that is supposed to follow the expected federal character principle. The woman could have been selected to represent her state which is Rivers . As it is, Rivers State already have at least another nominee representing their state. This means the state is usurping the right of another state due to no fault of Rivers State but Buhari. Because it benefit your people, you are now shouting Tribalism up and down. Some Nigerians are too greedy and selfish.
EducationRe: University Of Nigeria Nsukka In New beautiful ground Pictures by OLAN2015: 7:47pm On Jun 11, 2020
The name should be changed to Chinua Achebe University! Nnamdi Azikiwe loved Nigeria so much that he even named the University he founded after Nigeria. Not even Hausa or Yoruba region did so. Yet, we haven't gotten a full fledged Igbo president after many years except for the ceremonial one. May GOD help this nation.

Science/TechnologyRe: SpaceX Launch: NASA Astronauts Make History by OLAN2015: 10:37pm On May 31, 2020
Since they stopped using the hitech Space Shuttle in 2011, American Astronauts have been joining their Russian counterparts in their Soyuz rockets. Hence, the reason Space X and Boeing which are both private companies were selected to provide better space travel platforms for NASA . The future of space travel is obviously in private companies and not government. The Space X rocket used yesterday is far better than those of the Russians cos its reusable. No rocket has ever flown back to earth before until Space X perfected the technology few years ago. This is very cost effective, efficient and safer than even the Space Shuttle.

Patriot9:
is it not funny? A country like america who can build machines as super as SR-71 and F-35 can be relying on Russian rockets engine
AgricultureRe: Growing Papaya As A Business. by OLAN2015: 12:33am On May 12, 2020
Where can I buy the seeds ? Are you based in Lagos?

akinsmail51:
Growing papaya as a business, you would not quite believe it if you haven't seen it.

People underestimate the great opportunity of making a viable profitable business on pawpaw farming. Let's talk through amazing ways in which you can start papaya farming and make great profits.

A papaya/pawpaw is a fruit from a pawpaw plant scientifically known as carica papaya in the genus caricae. Pawpaw plants are among the fast growing fruit crops that take short time to attain maturity. It takes between 6-9 months for one to start harvesting.

Harvesting will continue after that all through the year. After you start harvesting, they will continue producing fruits through out 3-5 years if well taken care of.

An acre of land takes between 1000 to 1200 plants of papaya. A papaya plant produces between 40-50 fruits. Yields of 40,000 to 60,000 fruits per acre are common. In Nigeria, a single papaya fruit ranges between ₦50-₦100 (wholesale price).

Now, let's work with a standard one acre with 1000 plants. Let's take ₦50 as the standard price and yields of 40,000 from an acre. Your revenue at the end of sixth month would be ₦2,000,000 (₦50 x 40,000). Then, let's assume you harvest for just three years, do the math!

Next, What does it cost to farm papaya in an acre of land? Assuming that the piece of land is yours or leased.

- Land lease & preparation ₦100,000
- 1000 hybrid seedlings @₦100 = ₦100,000
- 1000 holes and planting @ ₦20 = ₦20,000
- Manure 2 lorries @ ₦10,000 = ₦20,000
- Labour assume ₦10,000 per month = ₦120,000 per annum.
- Fertilizers, insecticides and other inputs = ₦120,000
- Water (estimated per year) = ₦40,000
- Miscellaneous expenses = ₦50,000
- Harvesting/Marketing expenses = ₦50,000
- TOTAL COST will be ₦650,000.

Then compare your revenue and cost, you will realize a whopping profit of ₦1,350,000 within a year, provided proper farm practice and management is adopted.

You may need to consult big fish in the industry or seek the help of agribusiness experts or successful famers who are already well-established in the business.

One more thing, the greatest question that may be bothering your mind is "where do I sell these fruits ". The answer is simple, start your farming right from the market, by first seek out time to puzzle out your desired target customers and ask them which species of papaya is fast selling in the market.

Potential markets for papaya include malls, retail stores, grocery stores, fruit processing companies, eateries, fruit dealers/sellers or conveying your outputs to major fruit markets in your locality, you may also come up with creative means of marketing your produce. You don't always need to rely on the traditional ways of selling like going to the market and waiting for people there.

PoliticsRe: Database Connection Error On Punch Newspaper Website - See Photo by OLAN2015: 1:52pm On Oct 14, 2015
As an experienced website designer, the problem with Punch Website is a MySQL database issue. It could be caused by security hack, errors with technical upgrades on the host server or errors on the part of the web administrator himself. I recommend a well visited site like that to have regular file backups and auxiliary domain servers to forestall the recurrence of this severe IT issue.
