Don't you think it is rash to make a sweeping generalisation about The Daily Mail just because of an ill-conceived article?

I am an avid reader of the paper and to me they are among the best in the world.

Our attitude shows we are wild, mad africans that stumbled on civilisation. That's why the whites have no respect for us. Go around the streets of Lagos, before you drive 5mins you are guaranteed to see one savage event or the other . And you wonder who is deceiving who.
Stop this rant, abeg. People are free to emulate whatever. Even Kim K. She hasn't offended anyone. Let her be.

The article is demeaning. If you aren't clever enough to decipher that, then, The Daily Mail people are justified in their primordial innate prejudices. undecided

You are a muslim and you hate the mail because unlike other liberal multi cultural news outfits the mail is not afraid to bring the atrocities of ISIS to its viewers

OP considers dailyy mail to be ultra right wing because they are the only western media outlet that reports on ISIS rampaging menace.

Trying to use factual history as an excuse of being rascit in order to get Africans to dump the mail won't work.

Go back to your cave, right now. sad sad

I have read that article and dailymail just shared a piece of history. Not as if they were saying fiction. The thing the african folk always fail to understand is we can never be like the whites. We cannot be better than them cos we try everything within our power to be like them. We have forgotten ourselves, our tradition and culture is lost in the chaos of the mad african. We have to be ourselves to be the best. Shikena!
What useless piece of history! How do you link a story about slavery, sexual exploitation and apparent racial slur to what Kim K is doing? Can't you see the hypocrisy? The article mysteriously ignored the fact that she was ra.ped by dozens of white men for almost a decade. Even in the useless article, Kim Kardashian's ni.pples were censored and hers? Well, look again undecided

This is a limitation of trying to write English correctly in programming languages so as to cater for every eventuality.

Some programmers put the plural, 's' in bracket to take care of the numbers.

Attributive what? Noun, Adjective or what?

**modified**

So am I wrong?
And, "their" in that sentence is not there for what you stated above. Not as a possessive or attributive adjective. IT IS A PRONOUN THERE

"Their" in my example is used as an indefinite singular antecedent in place of masculine form "his"

MadCow1:
I honestly feel like we have deviated from the subject of this thread in a way.. Reason being that the example given by the OP deals with possessive nouns and how the placement of an apostrophe changes a possessive noun from singular to plural form. However, I will indulge your new challenge for academic reasons;

Your sentence contains two key words... 'Everybody' and 'Their'..

Everybody - Indefinite pronoun. ALWAYS singular. That's why you use 'is' after it and not 'are'. And we all know a pronoun is used in place of a noun..

Their - possessive adjective. Used to show possession. And you know that adjectives are used to qualify nouns.. And an adjective MUST always be used before a noun which in the case of your example is the word 'safety' and their safety is what 'everybody' (singular) which is the same as 'everyone' is possessing.

So putting them together, you example means; Each person is responsible for his/her own safety.

I am feeling darn good about this answer..

Attributive adjective?
"Their" is the possessive case of "they"

Sorry you are wrong. The intention is always to avoid liability on individual car basis. It has never been a group coverage. Let me ask you a simple logical question. If your car alone was parked at a lot on a given day and it got stolen, with your interpretation, will the company be liable? I think No. Reason being there must be at least one more car to make your definition work. I hope i have not confused you in anyway. If i did, please be assured it was not intended. Reading of this post is done at reader's risk......

Another example...director's.....single director

Directors'....as a group or a board.

"The" in English language is known as 'definite article' and serves to specify a noun which in the case of the example I gave was 'the books'.

Example: 'The Girl..' (meaning the speaker and listener both know who she is'

My apostrophe positioning (before of after the plural noun) in my example serves to quantify (singular or plural) the ' possessive noun' which is; Boy.

I hope it's clearer ...
You are wrong, Madcow. grin grin

"Everybody is responsible for their safety". Correct or incorrect?
