Thank you for your kind words. I apologise for the breakdown in communication in a while, my schedule has been tight. However, my line is now activate and I should be back fully before the quarter ends. @adex200ng, I believe we've spoken. For maize enthusiast :-Maize prices in Kwara north and Saki/ Iseyin axis may be the place to be as northern prices begin to spike. |
RealityShot:N95000 -N100000 per tonne in the northern zone |
dnapstar:Entry period is actually after harvest and differs slightly per zone. Using the mapping on the first page of the thread should give you some accuracy. With increased activity in farming, we may have additional entry period due to irrigation. I hope to update that accordingly once I can make out time and there is some consistency Great job. Love the spreadsheet |
Maize prices continue to dip in most location. At N60000 per tonne averagely, its likely to fall further given most harvest will be due soon. Soya price is also dropping gradually with the trickling harvest. Should arrive at N110/kg by November. |
Commodity prices have largely remained stable in the last couple of weeks and in some cases, dipped. Where prices have gone up, demand is also low and competition high. Extreme planning is essential to arrive at profitability. |
xprimate:Maize is at an all time low in 3 years using available market indices. You can go ahead and buy but note that price may dip further and climb slowly. |
katamo:N140000-N200,000 |
Egusi prices currently hovering at 26k-28k a bag in Nasarawa. Bag size is 32. Except prices dip, I will suggest other purchase alternatives. Groundnut and maize harvest are also out and purchase can be initiated. Always remember to buy properly dried maize and only quantities you have capacity to sell. The market this year will be epileptic so utmost care should be taken. |
emilex1000:Like all business, there is a risk element which you can hedge via insurance. Peeled egusi prices always go north if bought around this time. The best I can do is speculate based on market indicators. Like I always say, make sure you've identified a market for sales prior to purchase. Since its peeled egusi and you are a first timer, will suggest you don't buy more than 10 bags. Currently putting structures on ground to make purchase and investment in storage a lot easier. You can send a mail and we can take it up from there. |
maisauki:info@farmsynergy.com |
senny0001:Price is for unpeeled |
hoyze24:Port Harcourt and Warri markets like Makakusa or paper. Paper is their first choice Lagos market is more flexible. Some areas are price driven hence, "Amee", "Aluchi" that are cheap varieties move easily. "Benue 1 & 2" and "paper" are excellent choices for all markets and are white yam. Always buy very big yams if storing for sale. For shelf life, Paper, Makakusa, Benue 1 & 2 are very good. There is a variety from Taraba as well that can be beaten by rain and it wouldn't go bad. Will add up once I have the name |
maisauki:Thank you sir. You can reach me via my email which is available on this thread. All inquiries are welcome |
TUBLEZ:Please read through the thread. I have indicated the harvest period and sale period. Margins may however differ based on forces of demand and supply. |
senny0001:Thank you for the kind words. Egusi is available in Nasarawa, Benue, Niger in large quantity Bag cost is 25k-27k for size 32 bag. Prices will drop this week and next week because of sallah but should pick up subsequently Given your location, you can decide on your options and send me a mail |
emilex1000:No. If u need to dry it, then u r bound to make a loss . All you need do is store in bags on a wooden base and allow proper ventilation in the store. Take precaution so it doesn't get wet or soaked. In addition you may fumigate prior to storage |
Engrmartins123:Please note that Dav8id has been called out for fraud. Refer to earlier post please |
emilex1000:Store unpeeled if storing outside abuja or buy peeled, move to abuja, store and sell off within 3 months. No need for preservation if properly aerated |
Jookab27:The big question is "do you have a market for it?" You should also note that movement means your logistics cost goes up and if your market is different from where you store, you incur another set of cost for handling to the final destination How do you hope to compete with those that will move directly from farm store to the market if price differential is less than 20%? Egusi unpeeled needs not preservation however you will struggle to sell unprocessed egusi down south. Groundnut can be stored using pesticides at required volume and applying to withdrawal period. If the environment is well fumigated, groundnut can stay untreated for up to 6 months |
Jookab27:Egusi and groundnut |
Rugga:Entry period is Oct-Dec. Price currently at 30-34k depending on the variety. Just like ginger, this produce had selective demand and price variation wasn't constant |
EMMAACHILE:Except you are buying off the heaps, you may not get substantial quantity. From late september, harvest will kick in fully |
senny0001:White yam should be Takum in Taraba, zaki biam or ugba in benue or lokogoma and kokona in nasarawa. Egusi is definitely nasarawa toto, akwanga, doma, or ashangba in nasarawa, you will also get egusi in edo and benue Fresh pepper- I don't do perishables but northwest/central and south west should be your best bet Maize- kaduna, plateau, katsina and niger state. I had earlier listed some markets in those states. Palm oil- There is a thread on palm oil here, think Peeo is doing a great job with that. Akwa ibom, ebonyi, imo are likely locations. |
salsera:Chilli pepper is not yet harvested in most areas, current prices however between 24k-35k depending on variety. |
senny0001:I cannot possibly put up a comprehensive list of markets. If I know specify a commodity or a location, I may be able to suggest You have Dandume market in katsina Dawaki market in Bauchi Bokkos market in plateau Nasarawa market in nasarawa Andadha market in kaduna There are a lot of determining factors in arriving at a market of choice |
Chrismario:You can start with a bag or two. 50k, 100k whatever amount you have. Provided the commodity is available in your community and you are storing within proximity of the purchase location, profit can be made. You may need to identify the market dynamics of your locality as markets operate independent of each other |
All inquiries to info@farmsynergy.com I already have a whole lot of numbers with egusi so please use the email rather than call. You can text but still send a mail so I can follow the mail trail if need be. Thank you |
Egusi hasn't performed exceptional in the last 4 years so timing and pricing is essential to assure one of profit Exit price for me is 28k max. That's pessimistic but means I am taking less risk |
I know i said last night. Modu prices hovering between N120-N140 in Nasarawa, Gadabuke and Lokogoma axis In the same areas, size 32 sack of unpeeled melon (machine peelable) is going for 20-22k in the interior markets and 23-25k in other markets. Expenses may include cost of sack @ 200-300; cost of bagging @500-1000; sewing @150-200; loading/offloading @100 each; laada @300-500 and storage @500-1000. |
Egusi season is upon us. Buying starts now. Will update prices from three markets later tonight |
missbronze:Yes you can |
RealityShot:You'll need to be more specific. Note that your initial quote was in respect to processed melon but I answered independent of that. Are you interested in the storage biz or in the purchase of processed melon (egusi)? |
