Ginger
Ginger is a plant with leafy stems and yellow green flowers. The ginger spice comes from the roots of the plant. Ginger is the root or the rhizome of the plant and has been a popular spice for herbal medicine for years

It is used as medicine, in the manufacturing industries and as food.

Grown widely in the northern states of kaduna,kano,Nasarawa,Sokoto and Bauchi

Ginger is in three forms
1, Fresh (Green)
2, Whole Ginger
3, Dry split

No 3 is in demand in the international market but 1&2 are the most sort after. The whole dry commands the higher price.

Current prices for Dry Ginger (old) is 30k and Dry Ginger(new) is 25k per bag.

During its peak, fresh Ginger is sold for 10-15k per bag.

Sesame (Sesamum indicum)

Also called beneseed or beniseed

It is medicinal and comes in many shades of color. The seeds are used worldwide especially as sprinkles pastries applied to bread and hamburger. Many consume the seeds without mixing or make like egusi soup.

Sesame oil is used to massage the body and also for cooking. It has the highest anti oxidant content when compared to other oils.

Heavily used in the pharmaceuticals industry. It has grown to be a major export commodity and may not readily be found in most markets.

The demand for sesame has gradually grown over the years, making it one of the pride of exporters

Prices of sesame come as low as 18k and as high as 70k.

Maize hovering between N130-N160 per modu depending on seed quality and location.

Btw 68-75 modu makes a 100kg depending on modu size which differs per location

I am currently only able to access rice (unprocessed) from one location for now at 12k- 13.5k for 75kg.

Alternatives sources still at harvest stage.

Will confirm price of soya by next week.

Price update as at Monday 17th of 0ctober.

Quality seeds sold for 33k as against 35k on friday. There is a balance between demand and supply as demand thins out.

The arrival of maize has shifted attention from egusi. We expected a marginal increase to 35k before soya hits the market.

Early buyers may wish to start offloading now as growth rate may slow down

I am surprised some practitioners of the Agro-value chain did not turn up here. You entry period is correct as well as the toxin level. The investment portion you want to pioneer is good, but plenty agro419 people don spoil market.

Competition, no way. I have willfully rejected funds sent to me by some nairalanders and for good reasons too.

It is capable of a 100% and above with all the other risk involved in business.

Example: If you have treated you bean, maize to stay for 6 months, it isn't ethical to sell within 2-3 months of treatment as retained residuals will affect livestock. Except you have adviced the buyer of the chemical composition used he is also storing for future use

This is a typically reason why our beans has failed woefully in meeting EU standards for imports

Pesticides are dangerous and pose a health risk to humans. However, most grains are poorly stored by using above recommended doses of preservatives which tends to keep the grains pest free during long storage.

Residuals of this chemicals are known to be retained in the grains and can be transferred to consumers, this is known to cause cancer among other ailments.

Please follow prescription written on bottle before applying to grains.

Any idea of entry period for palm oil and ogbono?

Not my area of speciality so i will need help on this.

I did three times. I suffered my first loss six years ago when I bought for 2800 and should at 3000, cost of logistic was about 300 in a year it sold for 8000. I have people buy at farm gate and finance small farmers too and get bags at farm gate price. My agribusiness evolved overtime as hobby which I intend to make a real business. Last year I did tatase, sorghum, Seseme, corn, groundnut and rice.
Anyway let me restrict our trade secret which you and I are aware.
I responded to my friend Elluwilissit who I assume he probably thinks that it is changi that is making me to talk about dawa.
Infact my agent reported to me that he should at 7500 and we bought at 3700 this year. Again dawa will not burn like eguisi, due to it versatility and at least not below my projected 60% ROI. Elluwilissit come join the dawa and dadawa business with a million you will not be disappointed. If you wan do guy do Seseme or romantic ginger.

I have always said, all agro commodities have a cycle, once you go in at the right price, profit is assured. Regardless of the entry price this year, it will get to 25k again, that's my project.

If dadawa=Kaluwa, that's for the elite club and will always remain exclusive

Entry at 3700 looks realistic, but sold at 7500. That's daylight robbery although he may have sold pretty early

Guinea corn
Apart from the pap,ogi or koko it is used for, most people do not really relate with guinea corn.

How many of us have gone to the market to purchase it before? Very few indeed.

Used as an alternative feed source extensively last year and may enjoy similar patronage this year as well.

Enjoyed appreciable price increase last year.

Currently still selling as high as 25k a bag from entry price of 5k.

Back to our value chain biz. Since maize and dawa seem hot topics, lets dive in immediately

Maize.
Maize is the equivalent of gold this year. It holds the key to a lot of industries. Maize was grown heavily this year but due to bad weather, pest and flooding; harvest was poor.

It is the main staple food of the northern peasants, grinded and used as tuwo masara.

Due to poor harvest, most farmers retained almost 50% of their harvest as food and for onward sale at higher prices

The result is what we are experiencing in the market with higher livestock feed cost

Maize is been competed for by but humans and animals so the effects may be catastrophic this year though research is tilting in the usage of alternatives for livestock.

Prices have hovered between 8k -18k in the last 3 weeks.

Thread with caution though. Make sure you are buying dried corn and do add preservatives. Cheaper entry price does not necessarily translate to more ROI. Seed quality also counts depending on your intended market

NB: Always adhere to withdrawal period if using certain pesticides, you do not want to be the reason for sudden deaths

It is also important i address the issue of trade secret for those who have reservation about my comments.

Why would i advice people to buy stock at the wrong time, under a recession; just because i want to make a few naira notes. The money will finish now.

Integrity is scarce and that is what is killing our systems and starving it.

Always do your due diligence before purchase. The fact that it worked today does not mean it will tomorrow

Maize storage is the best now as farmers have started putting new maize in the market
hope to buy In my village from southern Kaduna n store there to beat transportation price n storage room rent since we have spare rooms in the village

Maize is gold. Stock up on it if you can find and preserve properly. We may likely experience a brief price decline in november then it's continuous growth.

Kano, Niger, Katsina currently seem like good zones as regards price.

If buying to resell in tonnes, get a reliable scale.

Bros I don't do stock exchange. Food is the best business you can do. It is capable of 100% ROI over 6 months, dawa more especifically. The person I use to give money on a small scale bring 100% and is shocked when I give him 20% of the profit. I just dey watch this time around I am targeting some dollars from this business.

How many times have you made 100% of guinea corn?

Guinea corn just had a wide margin last year due to scarcity of maize as it was used as alternative feed input in the livestock sector.

Yes it moved from 5k-25k but expect a reverse this year. Entry price will differ and more farmers may hold for their stock for increased margin just as it is done with maize now

Beans
Cowpeas/beans is a our major source of protein, a legume enjoyed by many. It falls into the category that can be easily retailed in the open market. They come in different varieties which have varying protein content and price valuation.

The two major colour available in this part of the world are
1. Brown
2. White

All coming with diverse local names like "Honey", "Orobo", "Company" etc. The seed quality and market demand determines the pricing.

Value of maize short up from 8k to 34k a bag last year and there is likely to be a repeat as farmers went for alternative crops to meet demand gaps

What is predominantly grown up north is the white beans, however there are few regions that plant brown beans which is highly priced

Preservation is key if you are to make any money at all in beans storage. It's a make or mar biz as you can lose all your money including the capital if you do not adhere strictly to preservative methods

Once infested, commodity loses value instantly so preparing storage mechanism before purchase is key.

Corn/Maize is dicey. Prices have been fluctuating. Better to plan properly before purchase.

Seen offers at 10k - 18k a bag. Infact it sold for 18k a bag in nasarawa two weeks ago
