Queens Park
Rangers
winger
Odysseus Alfa
is the latest
dual-eligible
player to
pledge his
international
future to
Nigeria over England, where he was
raised.
The 21-year-old has made it clear it
doesn't make sense to represent
another country as he was born in
Nigeria plus the fact that his parents
are Nigerians.
Alfaa is inching closer to a first-team
breakthrough at Queens Park Rangers
having trained with the senior squad
on multiple occasions and made the 18
for a Championship clash vs Millwall last
season.
"I was born in Kaduna, Nigeria. Most
likely my international future lies with
Nigeria, " Alfa said to
allnigeriasoccer.com.
"My family is Nigerian, I was born there
so it doesn't make sense for me to
represent another nation."
Alfa is a tricky winger and one of his
biggest strengths is his dribbling skills
and he has revealed that he's aiming to
improve his game by watching some of
the world's top wingers, including
Lionel Messi.
" I don't model my game around
anyone in particular, but I like to watch
and learn a lot of attributes from top
players.
"So I always watch the top wingers in
the world, like Serge Gnabry, Lionel
Messi, Wilfried Zaha and look at what
skills and attributes I can replicate.
"My main strengths would be my speed
and dribbling skills. I think I can be
tricky with my dribbling too which
gives me different ways to work my
way and attack," the Queens Park
Rangers number 34 added.
Alfa was playing Sunday League
Football prior to his move to Queens
Park Rangers at the age of fourteen. |

West Ham United youngster Ajibola Alese
will make his senior side debut in this
evening’s Carabao Cup clash with Hull City.
The 19-year-old has been named in David
Moyes’ starting XI for the first time in a
side that also contains fellow Academy
graduates Ben Johnson and Josh Cullen.
The defender spent the 2019/20
campaign on loan at Accrington Stanley,
making 15 appearances in all
competitions.
Alese, who will wear the No42 shirt this
evening, forms a defensive line with
Johnson, Harrison Ashby - who also makes
his West Ham debut - and Fabian
Balbuena, who once again captains the
Irons in the Carabao Cup.
Jack Wilshere and Robert Snodgrass come
into the midfield alongside Andriy
Yarmolenko, Manuel Lanzini and Felipe
Anderson.
Striker Sebastien Haller, who scored twice
in the 3-0 win over Charlton in the
second-round last week, leads the line for
the Hammers.
On the bench, the Hammers can call on
midfielder Jack Wilshere, who missed out
at the weekend due to a slight injury, and
former Hull City forward Jarrod Bowen.
Xande Silva, Conor Coventry, Emmanuel
Longelo and Nathan Trott complete the
matchday 18 for the Hammers.
West Ham United: Randolph; Johnson,

Barcelona have agreed terms for Ajax
full-back Sergino Dest, opting to sign him
over Norwich City's Max Aarons.
19-year-old Dest enjoyed a breakthrough
campaign last season, making 36
appearances in all competitions and
laying on six assists.

world | Soccrates Images/Getty Images
His performances have earned him a
reputation as one of the most promising
young right-backs on the planet and he
is set to link up with his Barça
teammates soon. Ajax informed Dest he
was free to leave earlier this summer
and a source has told 90min that €20m
(£18.4m) deal has been agreed.
The United States international - who
has been capped three times - has
attracted interest from Bayern Munich
and Chelsea in the past but Barça were
always leading the race.
His arrival coincides with Nelson Semedo
sealing his Camp Nou departure. The
defender has secured a move to Wolves,
adding to the Premier League side's
already sizeable contingent of
Portuguese players. 90min understands
Barcelona are using his transfer fee in
order to finance a move for Dest.
The youngster's arrival also marks the
end of recent Barça's interest in Norwich
starlet Aarons.
The 20-year-old featured 36 times for
Daniel Farke's relegated Canaries during
the 2019/2020 Premier League season,
registering two assists. Despite his
meagre output, the Catalan giants'
interest in Aarons was genuine, though
he was also considered second choice to
Dest.
Sources close to the England Under-21
star have revealed that he was flattered
by the Catalan side's interest and he has
not yet given up on securing a move
away from Carrow Road during the
current transfer window. Manchester
City are very keen on the player, who
they first started scouting back in 2018.
However, the Citizens are currently
prioritising signing a new centre-back. |

The 27-year-old made nine total
appearances while serving as the back-
up to Thibaut Courtois last term
Fulham have announced the signing of
France goalkeeper Alphonse Areola on
loan from Paris Saint-Germain.
The 27-year-old will spend the 2020-21
season with the newly promoted side,
who will hold an option to make the
move permanent at the end of the
season.
Areola joins the Cottagers after spending
last season on loan with Real Madrid,
where he made nine total appearances
while serving as the back-up to Thibaut
Courtois.

“I am very happy everything is done.
[Manager] Scott Parker called me and I
had a good feeling. He said he really
wanted me," Areola told Fulham's official
website.
“Fulham is a historic club in London and
I have heard a lot about the stadium. I
hope this season will be a good one for
us. I want to bring my energy and do
everything for this team to keep us
where we belong to be.”
Areola came up through PSG's academy
system before making his senior debut
for the club in the 2012-13 season. He
would subsequently spend time on loan
with Lens, Bastia and Villarreal.
He would go on to claim the starting role
at PSG for two campaigns before the
arrival of Keylor Navas from Real Madrid
prior to last season saw him move in the
opposite direction on loan.
On the international level, Areola has
been capped three times for France and
was a part of his country's 2018 World
Cup-winning side.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Alphonse Areola
to our Fulham family!" Fulham general
manager and sporting director Tony
Khan said.
"Alphonse has experience at the very
highest level, as he’s played in France’s
national team, won the league title with
PSG, had success at RC Lens, Bastia and
with Villarreal, and most recently he
played for Real Madrid as they won La
Liga last season.
“We’re excited that he’s joining us, and
he’ll be an excellent addition to our
squad as for our Premier League
campaign ahead! Come on Fulham!”

The Uruguayan poked fun at uncertainty
surrounding his next step, suggesting
there are false reports floating around
Luis Suarez referenced "fake news" on
Wednesday as his future remains
undecided amid talk of a transfer to
Juventus.
New Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman
has reportedly told Suarez he can leave
the club, a move that did not aid close
friend Lionel Messi's strained
relationship with the Blaugrana.
Suarez has been linked with a host of
potential suitors - including Ajax and
Inter Miami - but is said to be nearing a
switch to the Serie A champions with a
transfer fee reportedly agreed.

But the Uruguay international posted a
cryptic message on his Instagram story
as he continued to train with Barca.
Captioning a picture of him laughing,
alongside a grinning emoji, Suarez
wrote: "When fake news comes out..."
— Goal (@goal) September 9, 2020
Suarez is third on the list of Barca's all-
time top goalscorers, trailing only Messi
and second-placed Cesar. The former
Liverpool man has won four La Ligas,
four Copas del Rey and a Champions
League since moving to Catalonia in
2014.
Goal recently learned that the Uruguay
international has already reached a
personal agreement over a three-year
contract worth €10 million (£9m/$12m)
per season with Juventus.
Suarez is also set to sit an Italian
language exam which will allow him to
get a passport and make the move to
Turin.
The 33-year-old is in the final year of his
contract at Camp Nou, which will
automatically renew for a further year
should he feature in more than 60 per
cent of matches.
Juve, meanwhile, are in need of a new
forward after new coach Andrea Pirlo
confirmed Gonzalo Higuain will leave a
year before his contract expires.
Whether Suarez's move to Turin will be
completed remains to be seen with his
Instagram message potentially hinting
that he could be content to remain in
Barcelona.
Messi told Goal earlier this week that
despite his desire to leave Camp Nou, he
will remain with the club this season as
he doesn't want to take Barca to court.
"I thought and was sure that I was free
to leave, the president always said that at
the end of the season I could decide if I
stayed or not,” he said.
"Now they cling to the fact that I did not
say it before June 10, when it turns out
that on June 10 we were competing
for La Liga in the middle of this awful
coronavirus and this disease altered all
the season.
"And this is the reason why I am going
to continue in the club. Now I am going
to continue in the club because the
president told me that the only way to
leave was to pay the €700 million
(£624m/$823m) clause, and that this is
impossible." |
Leeds United have reportedly opened
discussions to sign Paris Saint-Germain star
Julian Draxler – but the attacking midfielder
is not interested in a move to Elland Road.
The newly-promoted English giants have set
out their stall as they prepare for their first
season in the Premier League in 16 years,
bringing in Rodrigo and Robin Koch for a
combined fee of around £40million this
summer.
And while Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa will be
satisfied with the club’s business thus far in
the transfer market, the mercurial
Argentinian is hoping to further strengthen
his attacking options ahead of the 2020/21
campaign.
According to RMC Sport, the Peacocks have
set their sights on landing Draxler and talks
have begun over an audacious move for the
Germany international.
However, the 26-year-old has not been
receptive to Leeds’ interest and is happy
with life in the French capital, despite falling
out of favour at PSG under Thomas Tuchel.
Draxler, who has entered into the final 12
months of his contract at the Parc des
Princes, has also turned down several
approaches from Bundesliga clubs
attempting to bring him back to Germany
for the new season.
PSG sporting director Leonardo is keen to
offload Draxler as the Ligue 1 champions
are looking to raise £54 million in player
sales to balance the books and offset the
financial repercussions of the coronavirus
pandemic.
It’s understood Idrissa Gueye has also been
put up for sale just one year after arriving
from Everton.
Last weekend, Joachim Low suggested that
Draxler’s place in the Germany national
team would come under threat should he
choose to remain with PSG for the
upcoming season.
‘I have had a long conversation with him
and we discussed ideas,’ the Germany head
coach said.
‘For Julian, it is naturally important to go to
the next level at this age. If he played
regularly, that would probably help him to
be more impactful.

Kepa Arrizabalaga is ready to fight Edouard
Mendy to be Chelsea’s number one as the
Blues look to wrap up a deal for the
goalkeeper – though Rennes insist the
transfer is far from done.
The Senegal international has emerged as
Chelsea’s top target to replace Kepa, with
the 28-year-old having been personally
recommended by Petr Cech, who played for
Rennes before moving to west London.
Although Chelsea have failed to land the
big-name goalkeeper they were hoping for
– having been linked with Jan Oblak and
Marc-Andre ter Stegen – Mendy’s looming
arrival has created serious question marks
over Kepa.
The Spaniard was dropped for two
significant periods by Frank Lampard last
season, replaced by veteran Wily Caballero
each time, with the Chelsea boss having
significant concerns over the £71.6million
signing.
But, according to The Telegraph’s Matt Law
on the London is Blue podcast, Kepa has no
intention of leaving Chelsea and is happy to
stay and fight for his place with Mendy.
Kepa’s camp feel he would relish and even
benefit from the increased competition for
a starting spot and there is little suggestion
that he would ask to leave Chelsea,
particularly as he still has a good
relationship with Lampard.
Once the Mendy signing is wrapped up,
though, Chelsea would consider cashing in
on Kepa – but there’s a major problem in
that so far they have received no interest
from other clubs.
One big stumbling block is that Kepa cost a
world-record fee and few clubs could come
close to paying a fee similar to that £71.6m
in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic,
particularly clubs in La Liga.
Chelsea would want much of that transfer
fee back and the fact they have not signed a
more established, expensive, superstar
keeper to be the undisputed number one
suggests Kepa still has time to save his
career at the club.
Rennes, meanwhile, have batted away
suggestions that Mendy will be picked up
for a bargain fee, with club president
Nicolas Holveck insisting the two sides are
still some way apart in their valuation –
though Mendy is eager to join Chelsea.
Speaking at a press conference on
Wednesday, Holveck confirmed: ‘Yes there
are discussions that have been initiated
with Chelsea, no agreement for the moment
– far from it. We know the value of the
player and the man, I am unable to tell you
what will happen.
‘For a transfer to take place, the agreement
between the three parties is necessary. I
can understand Edouard’s desire, he told us
about his desires, it’s part of the transfer
window. He is not in the worst club in
Europe either. He can also play in the
Champions League if he stays here.’ |
