A lot of people commenting on this thread don't even know what social anxiety (aka social phobia) is.

For starters, it is not a matter of confidence, rather, it is a sickness/medical condition, (just like malaria, typhoid and other sicknesses). It has nothing to do with confidence, fear, weakness of the mind or low self-esteem.

The solution is to seek medical intervention, as social anxiety can be medically treated.

Exactly bro , it’s not a confidence issue , it’s an illness . Even people who have witness me in my element when interacting one on one or interacting in a group of 5 , still judge when I can’t keep my shit together in a crowd , we don’t take stuff like this serious in these parts. I don’t even know where I can see a support group in this Lagos or where I can seek help, are there even any?

From what I've gathered it could be trauma response, genetic, upbringing or even acquired as we grow older

If you don't go through this you may never understand. My neighbors don't get me, they think I'm proud, snobbish, aloof etc some Even think I'm crazy ...my self confidence is now minus 500
Once upon a time I kinda built my confidence but somehow I've graduated to avoidance personality
Ever since I started noticing shakiness,heart palpitations and stammering in social situations

I'm in my house 24/7 no job since March and people think I'm lazy or complain when I try to tell them so I box it all up
Even a family doctor scolded me saying I should "snap" out of it , like it's that easy for me,😩
No respect, no joy , loosing opportunities daily
I'm planning on seeing a psychiatrist soon

You’re right . Just yesterday I attended a family member’s naming ceremony, the thing is my own anxiety dosent just start immediately , it starts when I stay longer. In the first two hours , I’m good. When I decide to take my leave, these same family members who have witness subsequent panic episodes of mine will insist that I stay, that I’m too proud blah blah , why I’m I leaving when everyone is gathered. If only they knew all the strength I had to gather to even be there, they wouldn’t judge me so much. Because they are the only ones that could really bring me out of my house , I don’t have any friends that could invite me anywhere. And not a month or two goes by that a family member won’t have anything to celebrate.

My life is quite similar with yours , though I work , but I had sacrifice a higher pay department because of the crowd in that department , and go for a department with lesser pay where we are just 5 in numbers. Even at that , it’s still hell for me. All I do is go to work and return home , neighbors don’t get it , like you , they think I’m proud , aloof , although I exchange pleasantries, but obviously, it’s not enough. They want something I can’t give. And I can identify with all the symptoms you listed.

If you are cool and abiding ,you will roll with your kind of people, while if you are the fighting active guy, your people full outside waiting for you.... fighting people will not go and bother cool people, you feel where im driving at?? Papa Ajao, Ajao estate, ilupeju side etc are cool place to live around Mushin.

You’re right bro, ones disposition determines if he will gets to live peacefully or not. But, I’m actually a cool person sha. That illupeju seem like a cool area , I wouldn’t mind. Can I get that same room and parlour self contain for 600 around there? Thanks

Nawa for Lagos o, my younger cousin used to pay 1million plus for a cubicle with shared kitchen before deciding to move to Ibadan, 750k got him a nice flat in a really nice environment
