abujaniv, the letter is the same to the previous ones i have been receiving, there is nothing new in the letter. Kindly look into my case. I was told i chose another school in my previous appointment, which is a big lie.
i have all my print out here with me while i filled my Ds form.

What a terrible life we live in this part of the world.

Lagosniv, I was refused a student visa today as the 3rd time, today the oldest woman interviewed me, she asked the reason I changed my school, I told I never did, she said I did, she mentioned the name of d school previously written on her screen by the previous interviewer. I swear to God who made me, I have never heard the name of the school she mentioned. I never brought changed my school because of the research I'm interested in. I can give u my sevis number on demand to help verify. Same old sevi's number I used for the three attempt. This is so painful.

Thanks to all the wonderful guys and ladies here who take time to answer questions and contribute their knowledge for the benefit of other aspiring students. My visa was approved at the Abuja Consulate Office today at 7.30am; it was a sad sight: the amount of denials/delays issued to my fellow Nigerians. I was actually the first approved after up to 20 before me were given yellow papers; I was optimistic and cheerful (I've done my best in preparation and left the rest to God).
When my turn finally came, I was met face-to-face with a VO I had earlier met at a US College Fair held sometime in October this year. When I met him then, he was actually promoting his alma mater(can't remember the school now though). I asked him a simple question:
Why do you guys issue lots of visa denials? He candidly replied me that all an intending student needs to prove is that he is a genuine student:
How many schools did he/she apply to?;
Did he/she take any standardized tests?;
How truthful and clear re the information on his DS-160?
What are his/her long term career plans and how does it fit?;
Can he/she justify the reason why he/she needs to gain this education/degree abroad instead of in his home country?
How can he/she convince me that he/she's coming back after studies?

These are basically the questions that have been asked and answered here a thousand times.

VO: Why are you going to University of Central Missouri?
me: To pursue a MS Degree in Computer Information Systems
VO: Is that the only schools you applied to?
me: I applied to 5 Universities (named them)
VO: Why did you choose UCM?
me: (shortened version) It offered the best fit for my career growth in terms of its curricula content which include software engineering, information security, DBMS, bla bla bla...
VO: What do you currently do?
me: I work as the Confidential Secretary as well as Head of ICT at Federal XYZ..
VO: Have you been outside the country before?
me: No sir, I haven't.
VO: Are you married?
me: Yes sir, with a 9-month old daughter.
VO: Why are they not traveling with you?
me: My wife is currently at work at Federal XYZ; they'll come visit next year during her annual leave; moreover its a two-year program so she can't be granted a two-year leave of absence to join me during my studies.
Then the white paper and the instructions...
No documents (financial/test scores) were requested...
(Funny enough, I knew he recognized me but we both feigned ignorance of that - he was doing his job of course)

Through this journey, I've learned the following:
1. You are tagged an ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT until you convince them otherwise. EVERY SINGLE question asked you proves or disproves this point.
2. You must do your homework: Take standardized tests; rigorously research your schools to ensure they are accredited; Let other experienced people help you enhance your transcript and offer better ideas/angles on how to answer these questions (You need to be GUIDED!); above all, you have to SELL yourself (be bold, be convincing, be well articulated - you don't need to memorize your answers so you don't sound like a robot).
3. Trust and put your faith in God. I met up with a fellow guy (same profile: married with kids) who was unsuccessful after the interview; on conversing with him, his answers were quite articulate, but yet, it didn't fly. I encouraged him to re-apply and work on his ties, as well as how his program can best fit his career progression.

When you've prepared to the best of your abilities, trust God to complete it...even if you fail, do not relent.

please guys which uni in usa is affordable like around 5m naira for Masters study. ive bsc in Microbiology with firstclass, thinking of medical microbiology or biotechnology for Msc. doing toefl nov 18. what are my chances in getting little fundings?

is Gre compulsory for admission?

Hi, Why do Toefl? when you can get schools to waive toefl for you. y not do Gre, u get funding easier with good Gre scores. well, just a random advice, i would be wrong.

Yes you can, i think either you or someone called me or pm me to ask this question

procedure is very simple, Make sure you have I20 for the new school and make sure you get it done inside USA

The resume to your new school and tell them and either you/they will contact your old school to release your sevis record and everything will be fine

Abeg pray along because some schools get craze and their policy might be you need to spend a semester before you can transfer

...hmmm and if they request you send a semester, that means you going to pay their bills before leaving for the new school... i hope im right?

I don't know why I have this deep concern for you, but I think you have to be ready for this interview. First, you should know your research much more than anyone else and with this you can say something about your supervisor. Second, I think whenever you are asked about your research or that of your supervisor, then you have your destiny in your hands because you can boldly lecture the VO with some terminologies He/She does not know-you see? You have the floor!!! That's all you need to show that you are not just eligible to get a visa but to be admitted at a US institution. I always tell people, any question you are asked, just find a way to bring them to your strong point where you can be confident to speak- and that's your career plans and research work. All the best.

@olenime first thing write GRE I think you might have received the visa the first time if you had rather the VO pressed on and it resulted in a delay. Please whilr filling your DS-160 screen grab it if you can but remember every single detail, Lastly it will not harm you to acquaint yourself with the research and outcomes of the professors in your proposed department and pls speak up and confidently there is something inherently humiliating and condescending about the Visa process especially while applying from 3rd world countries but pls be bold. I wish you luck

Ultimately a VO is human like me and you and sometimes we all make mistake so even a VO is not above that .

Don't mind that guy taking vo has his God of perfection.

Since you say you did who can say otherwise. i guess its to pray against the voices in someone else or a VO head . Until it happens to you u never know or defend either way on who lying

Thanks for sharing your story . It is well with you . Nobody destiny is tied to one place or to america , its either you try again or focus on other stuff. No VO can close door to anyone destiny.

Its God who opens the door however it is when he feel its right . .... Stay well
