Politics / PHOTOS: Ambode To Build 3000MW Power Plant by olokeded: 2:16pm On Jul 24, 2017
Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Monday said his administration has already embarked on reform aimed at generating 3000MW of power within the next few years, adding that the initiative, which is on course, would go a long way in scaling up the State’s economy and make life more comfortable for the people.

Speaking in Ikeja while declaring open the 7th Annual Public Lecture of the Lagos State Public Service Chapter (LSPSC) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) with the theme “Lagos@50: Unlocking Its Economic Potentials For Sustainable Development,” Governor Ambode said that adequate power supply was a key factor needed to unlock the economic potentials of the State, saying that the sector remained strategic in reducing the cost of doing business and improving the living condition of Lagosians.

He described the theme of the lecture as apt and in sync with the resolve of his administration to identify, explore and exploit the untapped potentials of the Lagos economy, which according to him, was why the State Government was adopting the approach of strategic, innovative and long term thinking and planning.

The Governor added that with high population growth of 3.2 per cent annually, high immigration rate estimated to be one of the highest in the world and rapid urbanization, the State Government was not oblivious of the fact that the most effective and efficient way to unlock the economic potentials of Lagos is to open up the economy for private enterprise to thrive, which was why his administration had been delivering first class infrastructure and putting in place right policies to ensure business-friendly environment.

Besides, Governor Ambode attributed the massive projects ongoing at the eastern and western axis of the State as well as Lagos Marina and Onikan to the resolve of his administration to unlock the tourism, entertainment and arts potentials of the State which he said were also critical.

According to the Governor, “Our smart city initiative will help to ensure that the State is cleaner, safer, productive and then more resilient thereby making the State more attractive for Foreign Direct Investment.

“Upon assumption of office in 2015, our administration created the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment and subsequently launched the N25bilion Employment Trust Fund and as at today, over 3000 entrepreneurs have benefited from the fund through access to low cost credit for their business.

“Lagos State is also actively involved in the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN), a body comprising all the South-Western States. Though DAWN and other platforms, we are working on a collaborative development plan, a regional economic integration which will help to minimize some of our current challenges such as high immigration, infrastructure deficit and traffic congestion,” he said.

Aside the regional collaboration, Governor Ambode said his administration has also entered into several partnerships locally and internationally, while the Lake Rice project which had been very successful is being taken to a new level with establishment of value chain for agricultural commodities like rice, groundnut, pepper, among others.

“Our government is committed to diversifying the Lagos economy and open it up to the world. Through the office of Transformation and Innovation, we are continually improving on the ease of doing business in the State. Consequently, we are continually open to welcoming and partnering with international investors and development partners towards achieving sustainable economic and social development,” he said.

While stating that government alone could not implement all the reforms, Governor Ambode urged accountants in the State public service to see themselves as key stakeholders in bringing about the desired outcome.

He particularly charged them to be the best in their endeavors and help to strengthen the financial base of the State to facilitate execution of infrastructural projects vital to economic growth and development.

Earlier, ICAN President, Mallam Isma’ila Zakari described Lagos State as a typical example of sustainable development in Nigeria, adding that it was important for other States in the country to learn from the experience of the State and apply same to address their challenges.

Zakari, who was represented by Dr Innocent Okwuosa, said: “Lagos is a shining example in Nigeria. If every other State in Nigeria follows what Lagos is doing, perhaps all the issues confronting us as a nation would have been resolved. Lagos has gotten human capital and good leadership exemplified by the accountant at the helm of affairs in the State.

“Sustainable development is inclusive development and that is what Lagos is doing,” Zakari said while assuring that the deliberations at the lecture would be properly documented and put into consideration by the Council.

In his welcome address, LSPSC Chairman, Mr Hakeem Alade Tairu said the lecture was significant coming at a time when the State is witnessing tremendous development in all sections and sectors of its economy under the leadership of a former distinguished member of the chapter in person of Governor Ambode, who he described as a man with a Midas touch, a seasoned technocrat, exceptional leader and a seasoned accountant with a positive difference.

Politics / Lagos LG Eletions: Ambode Congratulates APC by olokeded: 10:31pm On Jul 23, 2017
Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Sunday congratulated the All Progressives Congress (APC) for recording landslide victory at the just concluded Local Government election in the State, saying that the development was an eloquent affirmation that Lagosians have confidence in the party.

It was a clean sweep for all the 57 chairmanship candidates of the APC as they were all declared winner by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) defeating all their rivals in the keenly contested election.

Governor Ambode, in a congratulatory message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Habib Aruna, said the development was not just a victory for democracy but the people at the grassroots, who he said would experience continuity with improvement in terms of dividends of democracy.

The Governor said it was particularly gratifying that the party emerged victorious in all the positions not only for the chairmanship positions but also the councillorship, which is the closest to the people.

"This victory for us is nothing more than a confirmation of the trust that Lagosians have placed on the party. In that regard, I like to congratulate our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the landslide victory at the Saturday’s election in all the 57 Councils.

“I particularly note with joy the peaceful conduct of electorates who came out to exercise their franchise in favour of their preferred candidates despite the heavy rain. This is indeed a welcome development and it will go a long way to strengthen our resolve to push ahead with our vision to transform the Local Government system, being the closest to the people.

“I am also happy that we are conducting the Local Government election during my time after almost six years that the election was last held in the State,” the Governor said.

While congratulating the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) for the success of the election, Governor Ambode said the outcome of the election was a demonstrable evidence that the people have keyed into his vision to evolve participatory governance especially at the local level, just as he assured that his administration would not relent in promoting good governance both at the State and Local Government levels.

“I also like to congratulate LASIEC and all Lagosians for the success of the election which is reassuring about the culture of participatory democracy we are building in the State. It is on record that Lagosians comported themselves peacefully before, during and after the period of the election and this confirms the readiness of the people to support us all the way in our bid to truly take Lagos State to greater heights.

“On our part, we shall continue to work assiduously to move the State forward and make life better and comfortable for the people,” Governor Ambode assured.

He, however, urged those aggrieved with the result to channel their grievances to the appropriate quarters rather than resort to self-help.

Celebrities / Mabel Makun's Instagram Accuses Freda Francis Of Cheating With AY Makun by olokeded: 8:46am On Jun 12, 2017
Mabel Makun’s Instagram has accused Freda Francis of Cheating with her husband AY Makun.

The drama started moments ago, when the official page of the Midas Interiors boss published the alleged chat between the comedian and the pregnant Oasis MedSpa boss, in which Freda and AY talked, in graphic details, about having sex.

“I think I have had enough of the ridiculing. Freda Francis stay away from my family and I mean,” said the post on Mabel’s page.

This shocking leak comes just days after Freda Francis shared photos of her huge baby bump, confirming earlier rumours that she is having a child with a mystery man.

Also, this is the first time Mabel Makun would be calling out a female since news broke in 2016 that she moved out of the comedian’s house following a domestic altercation.

Presently, the shocking posts have been deleted from Mabel’s page, but none of the named stars has spoken up since this news surfaced.

Phones / Ways To Save Money On Internet Expenses by olokeded: 11:38am On Jun 06, 2017
A good internet at home is essential whether you are a Netflix freak or you are just trying to keep up with your friends on social media. Unfortunately, every month your internet bill keeps rising that you want to stop subscribing. The fact is that you can reduce your usage and still get affordable internet service monthly. Jumia Travel, the leading online travel agency shares ways to can cut your internet bill.

Get the best competitive price

If you are frustrated with your high internet bills, you can take time out to research the cost of buying data from several other Internet Service Providers. When you have done this, contact your service provider and let them know that their charges are on the high side. Certainly, they do not want to lose their customer. Hence, they have no choice than to review their prices. If nothing happens, you can move to their cheaper and fast competitor.

Check out promos

If promotional pricing is available, you should take advantage of it so that you get a short term price reprieve. Hence, always be on the lookout for these promos.

Reduce your speed

You might think that it's best to get the internet package with the highest possible speed, but for most homes, a high-speed account ends up being a waste of money. Since you are not a business enterprise, you should get a low-speed internet plan so as to pay less at the end of the month.

Buy your own modem and router

You can also buy a modem or router rather than subscribing to a service provider which can be expensive. So, buying your own modem will significantly trim your internet spending.

Threaten to cancel

This oftentimes works especially if your internet provider is customer friendly. Whether you plan to cancel or not, sometimes threatening that you will is enough to get your internet bill reduced. This will prompt them into taking action to do something about your high bill.

Crime / Oshodi Crisis: Police Arrest Transport Unions Officials by olokeded: 5:56pm On Jun 04, 2017
The Lagos State Government on Sunday said factional leaders of National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW and Road Transport Employers Association of Nigerian, RTEAN their supporters believed to the behind the violence in Oshodi area of the state had been arrested.

The Chairman, Lagos State Task Force, SP Olayinka Egbeyemi, revealed this in a statement through its Public Affairs Officer, Mr Adebayo Taofeek in reaction to the crises in Oshodi axis and its environ.

He said the arrested transport union officials were being interrogated by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, in his office at present.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the crises at Oshodi erupted after the death of Rasaq Bello, popularly known as Hamburger, which resulted into the attack of innocent citizens.

Crime / "We Sell Stolen Keke Napep For N75,000” – Suspect (Photos) by olokeded: 4:48pm On Jun 04, 2017
Operatives of Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested an alleged member of a five-man gang that specializes in stealing tricycle, popularly known as ‘Keke NAPEP’, and motorcycles in the Lagos metropolis.

The suspect, Ekene Chukwuan, 21-year-old, was arrested in the early hours of Thursday after he and four other members of his gang broke into an apartment at 49, Falana Street, Iyana-Ejigbo Lagos, and carted away with one tricycle and one motorcycle at around 2:00 am.

Ekene, native of Enugu State, told the police during interrogation about how he was introduced into motorcycle and tricycle stealing business by his mentor named 'Alhaji'.

“I relocated from Amukoko to Ijora in search for greener pasture because I was told there is money in Ijora and Mushin. I work as a truck pusher at Ojuade market where I helped people convey their goods from one location to another before Alhaji told me to stop the work for better one.

“Alhaji told me he was called for a work by one 'Ajona’ and asked me if I will like to join in the job, promising me a better pay and less stress. I accepted Alhaji’s idea but didn’t know we are going for stealing,” he added.

“On getting to Ejigbo, Ajona who is the leader told us to stay in a place till night fall before entering into the apartment where we unchained a motorcycle and a tricycle. We put the motorcycle inside the tricycle while Ajona drove with two others in the tricycle.

“We were on our way when we met RRS men who stopped us but we refused to stop. So they (RRS) chased us. We were at full speed trying to escape when we crashed before taking to our heels, but the police caught me,” he confessed.

Ekene in his statement to the Police claimed, “we sell stolen Keke NAPEP between N75,000 to N80,000, while motorcycles are sold between N30,000 to N40,000.”

The owner of the motorcycle, Mr. Nduka Oyekachi Innocent, who was alerted of the theft and invited to RRS Office, said “I parked my tricycle in my compound at 49, Falana Street, Iyana-Ejigbo, and went to bed. I woke up the following morning only to discover that the keke was missing. I searched everywhere, including the drainages because I was so much devastated and worried about the debt and how to take care of my family. Immediately, I went to Ejigbo Police Station to report the incident before I was informed later that RRS officers have arrested one of the suspected thieves.”

Nduka, 31, noted that he wept like a baby on discovering that his keke was missing because he got the keke on hire-purchase from a businessman. He was to repay the sum of N1,000,000 within a period of one and half year according to the hire-purchase agreement he signed.

He explained further that, the businessman gave him the keke in February 2017 which he had just repaid N220,000 out the N1,000,000.

Recovered from the suspect were iron cutter, tricycle and motorcycle.

The suspect has been transferred to the Lagos Police State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
