Poems For Review / The Cynic’s Death by Olorididan(m): 9:23pm On Oct 12, 2012 |
alive or so convinced yes, yes indeed sniggeringly reaffirmed an unconvincing conviction but, really? really knowing? so by how much? what is the measure? because hopes challenge disappointments and dreams do battle with tragedies and all the while bleeding passions, draining faith sapping life and drowning love pushed to harried glances, inflections of a wiltering inner star but pricey ignorances are not easily bought not for all the value inherent in real, genuine essences so what trueness left will not take flight of their devotions and things of meaning and those who matter will never be forgotten all that gladdens will be joined and congregated in witnessing over and over the Cynic’s death 1 Like |

Nairaland / General / R.I.P. by Olorididan(m): 11:37pm On Sep 16, 2007 |
It may be a rather morbid topic but death is a daily occurrence in the lives of those of us who are fortunate enough to have eluded it till this moment. So its with this in mind that I'm starting this topic as a hat tipping gesture to those who weren't (or were- depending) so fortunate. I thought to do so after just reading that one of my closest watched sports personalities died in a helicopter crash. Colin McRae, one of the best ever World Rally Champions, died in an accident totally unconnected with the risk he took for years racing WRC cars. He died with his six year old son (and a friend of his son's and his father). As avid pursuer of all things fast and speedy, I hadn't felt like this since the death of the brilliant Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna. So this thread is for all those who have lost someone of any meaning in their lives, whether close or distant, friend or enemy, and who would wish to acknowledge their lives and to say goodbye. Rest In Peace Colin McRae . |

Politics / Re: Yar'adua Picks Governor Jonathan Goodluck As Presidential Running Mate ! by Olorididan(m): 3:39am On Dec 18, 2006 |
DITTOED from "Re: Yar'Adua President in Waiting?" Its unfortunate sometimes that many of us seem not to see an opportunity when one presents itself. First we cannot forget the relationship that has existed for a very long time between Yar'Adua (and Yar'adua senior before his execution) and OBJ. I is a tested one and anyone in OBJ's shoes would have done the same. OBJ has always looked for an exit strategy with which he could go to sleep on and he seems to be getting it. He certainly doesn't want anymore stripes on his back! The choice of Jonathon wasn't so obvious but is understandable. If you have seen the transformation in Yenagoa in the little time he has been there you will start to understand. Though politically weak of base, Jonathon cultivates underestimation, very much like OBJ and Yar'Adua himself and it is very clear that Yar'Adua had him in mind from the outset. Back to the opportunity. It is clear the country now has a chance to transfer power for the first time in its post colonial history from a still hungry old brigade (of thieving soldiers and soldiering thieves) to two young new faces whom are not (in relative terms) tarnished. The caveat of course is that the old soldier as they say "never die". So we have a choice here move beyond Buhari, IBB, Tofa et all, hold these two new faces absolutely accountable. In fact it is their very susceptibility to accountability that (not only by us, but by all those within the PDP itself who lost out) that makes them seem palpable. For once I think we about to get leaders we can ask questions who do not possess the weight of history and chance to assume us a foolish answer. Looking forward to grilling these two!! |

Religion / Re: Is Atheism A Belief Or Is It Truly Religion? by Olorididan(m): 3:24am On Dec 14, 2006 |
@KAG I'd say so, but it depends on how you apply the word and its implication in a sentence. For example, when belief is used in atheism, it is akin to: I believe that the tooth fairy doesn't exist in pretty much the same way I believe my chair won't become animated and run off with me. nferyn has already stated that "it is simply a lack of belief in Gods" what I'm trying to see if possible is whether it is possible to take a body of non belief and give it some sort of central coherence. Many people feel that Atheism suffers from the "anything goes" syndrome. That if you don't believe in something you'll believe in anything. I want to see if any coherent body of thought can come out of the vastness of the belief in "anything" or "nothing". There aren't many atheists around but I'd like to know their thoughts and whether we can give these thoughts any sort of collective direction and maybe form something out of it. One common denominator found among many atheists is the belief that there is no existence before and after life. Note I did not say no existence of a God. Further to this is the belief that there is no existence of a God before, during and after life. Which leaves life as we know it. It is within this realm that most atheists base their beliefs. But if we do not exist before and do not exist after, then could it be argued that we really do not exist presently. We are simple physical manifestations of nothingness. If we are not the manifestations of a greater being, we are the manifestation of nothing are we not? If so we need to ask is it possible for nothingness to become something without a "God" or soem force or the other making it so and if so how? |
Religion / Re: Is Atheism A Belief Or Is It Truly Religion? by Olorididan(m): 12:24am On Dec 13, 2006 |
nferyn: Is it a lack of belief in God or is it a belief that there is no God? I'm trying to be as objective as possible here so does an atheist's belief in the concept of no God actually qualify as a beilief in nothingness. No God before our state of existence. No God after our state of existence. And of course no God during our state of existence. If so is there a possibility of it being a religion of nothingness. If not what do atheists believe since they do not believe in a God? Also most religions do actually believe in the concept of God as existing within other religions. It is simply that they do not agree with the other religion's interpretation of who and what that God is and how that God should be worshipped. |

HEZBOLLAH AND ITS ARAB BACKERS ARE JUST ABOUT TO ACHIEVE WHAT THEY SET OUT TO WHEN THEY STARTED THIS EPISODE! THE OVERTHROW OF THE "LEBANESE" GOVERNMENT AS WE KNOW AND ITS REPLACEMENT WITH A HEZBOLLAH LED THEOCRACY FULLY BACKED BY IRAN THE STREET OF BEIRUT ARE STILL FULL AND SINIORA'S TIME HAS COME THE RADICALISATION OF THE TWO CORE ARAB ENTITIES CLOSEST TO ISRAEL (PALESTININAN WITH HAMAS & LEBANESE WITH HEZBOLLAH) WILL BE COMPLETE AND THE STAGE WILL BE SET FOR THE NEXT EPISODE HERE THE ARABS WILL NOT INVITE ISRAEL TO WAGE WAR ON THEIR OWN COUNTRIES THEY WILL (AND HAVE SO DONE INCREMENTALLY) WAGE THE WAR ON ISRAELI TURF (OR AS CLOSE TO IT AS POSSIBLE) USING THE TWO WEAKEST AND MOST EXPENDABLE PEOPLES IN THE MIDDLE EAST THE PALESTINIANS AND THE LEBANESE ! FOR YEARS THE ARABS HAVE DONE THIS USED THEIR WEAKEST SIBLINGS TO FIGHT AN "ENEMY" THEY CANNOT THIS IS HOW MUCH HATRED EXISTS |
Religion / Is Atheism A Belief Or Is It Truly Religion? by Olorididan(m): 11:06pm On Dec 12, 2006 |
Most religions believe in the existence of a God. Most atheists believe there exists no god. So Is atheism a belief in itself? If so what do atheists believe? Or Is atheism actually a religion? We all know what the world's religions believe in. But what are atheist's beliefs regarding existence and can we take (hopefully from the posts below) the (or) a body of atheist opinion and thought and use it as a basis of another religion? |

Could your feet do with a good scrub? and if so would they thereafter still be deemed sexy? |
