Politics › Ribadu Set To Be Appointed PDP Chairman by oloriooko(op): 10:41am On Aug 02, 2015
There are indications that the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu, will soon be appointed the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Chairman.

The former PDP Chairman, Adamu Mu’azu, resigned on May 20, 2015 on health grounds.

Since then, the Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Uche Secondus, has taken on the role in an acting capacity.

Our source at PDP said that the party might zone its national leadership to the North East, with Ribadu’s name being touted as the most likely candidate..

The source said, “the former EFCC boss has the international and local goodwill to occupy such a position.

“He is someone that cannot be intimidated, and as such will be a credible opposition leader for the PDP when appointed.”

Speaking on the implication of such position for PDP and the North East, he said “Ribadu’s track record of leadership and discipline will enable him reposition the PDP, in terms of credibility, mutual understanding, strategic planning, and formidable opposition.”

He noted that zoning such a position to the North East, Ribadu’s native region, would help cushion the minority issue in the region in terms of position and Government presence.

When asked if the position had the capacity to kill Ribadu’s presidential ambition, he said “One thing I know, he is not for ambition, he is for services.

“Right from when he left as EFCC boss, he has been serving in one capacity or the order, his quest for service made him to contest the 2015 governorship polls in Adamawa state.”

On whether Ribadu would consider Buhari’s ministerial slot as speculated in some quarters, against the PDP chairmanship our source dismissed the very notion.

“I don’t think that is true, it is not ideal, he is not a member of the All Progressive Congress and as such I don’t think he will accept it.”

As at the time of filing this report, the leaders of the PDP were said to be zeroing in on Ribadu because of the public perception and integrity to match and outshine President Muhammadu Buhari.

The party’s national convention where Ribadu and other Board of Trustees, BoT, members of the party will emerge is slated for lather this month.

Ribadu is also reported to have the blessing of former President Goodluck Jonathan and some other party leaders.

However, elements in the APC, who may not achieve their ambitions in the party, are fighting hard against the emergence of Ribadu as party chair, in the hope that they can return to the PDP to achieve their motives.

The prospect of a Ribadu chairmanship remains very popular within the party.

Politics › Nigeria’s 7th Senate proceedings was like beer parlour discussions – Senator Ndu by oloriooko(op): 5:46am On Aug 02, 2015
Senate Majority Leader, Mohammed Ali Ndume has described the 7th Senate proceedings under the leadership of David Mark as that of ‘beer parlour discussion’, where the plenary lacked all sense of decorum and everybody talked any how during sittings.

He made this statement while speaking with parliamentary correspondents in his office in Abuja.

“I’m sorry to say this; the 7th Senate, when conducting proceedings used to be like beer parlour discussions where everybody talks any how”, Ndume said.He stated that the current Senate would be different and would do things differently so as to support government in effecting changes that it promised Nigerians.

In his reaction to lingering leadership crisis at the National Assembly, Ndume described it as disagreements among members of the same family owing to divergent interest of some colleagues. The disagreements was a matter of interest. Everybody has his interest, a diverging interest that is now converging, just like I said during plenary, that it is only one Senate President that would emerge and everyone is qualified to contest”, he said

Recalling that he contested for Deputy Senate President after Saraki’s emergence, but that God gave it to Ike Ekweremadu, he added that his position as Majority Leader was God’s destiny. “I remember contesting for the office of Deputy Senate President. I didn’t contest to lose, but to win and God gave it to Ekweremadu and now that I am the Majority Leader, it is God’s destiny for me”, he noted.

He urged Nigerians to be patient with this administration as the Senate was just settling down for business, while disclosing that they would soon roll out the legislative agenda to the public, especially as the Committees were being put in place based on merit so as to get the best for the nation.

“You don’t just distribute Committees without consideration of interest and merit so that things would be properly handled”, he said.

Politics › Nigeria, Neighbours Have Increased Capacity To Deal With Boko Haram – Buhari by oloriooko(op): 8:36pm On Aug 01, 2015
Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, says that with the formation of a stronger regional coalition, Nigeria and other neighbouring countries have an increased capacity to deal with Boko Haram and other terrorist groups.

President Buhari said this on Friday during a conversation with the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa, Dr Mohammed Ibn Chambas.

According to his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the President reaffirmed his belief that the full activation and deployment of the Multi National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) which has been established under the auspices of the Lake Chad Basin Commission, would lead to the speedy defeat and elimination of Boko Haram.

President Buhari also said that with the Command and Control Centre of the Nigerian military now in Maiduguri, Borno State, the morale of troops in the front-line states had improved significantly.

“You can tell the Secretary-General that we are doing our best and our best will be good enough for the nation and the sub-region,” President Buhari said.

Against the background of upcoming elections in Cote D’Ivoire, Guinea and Burkina Faso, the President also called on the United Nations to assist African countries in the acquisition and use of innovative technologies to ensure more credible elections.

“When citizens recognize that their votes count, it will boost their confidence in democracy and their countries’ electoral systems,” he said.

Recalling that in the last general elections in Nigeria, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) used smart card readers to authenticate prospective voters, President Buhari observed that while Nigeria could afford the use of such technology in its elections, other African countries may require support and assistance from the international community.

Dr Ibn Chambas commended President Buhari for his strong and positive actions against terrorism.

The United Nations envoy also welcomed President Buhari’s successful visit to Cameroon during the week and his reaffirmation of Nigeria’s commitment to the peaceful resolution of all border issues with Cameroon.

soe:
what PMB said before election was that.....leaving the taslk of anti BH war for our neighbours to handle for us isnt right. Allowing them come into our country to fight for us isnt right.

However what he is saying now is that...while we take on the battle on our land, other countries must synergies with us, within their own borders, so as to harness all intensity from all corners on the BH bandits..that way, there will be no breeding space for them.
Actually what he meant was that if jonathan had done the right thing from the start,we wouldn't need to rely on our neighbours for help
So which interpretation is right undecided
