Christianity Etc › Ramadan 2015: China Bans Uighur Muslims From Fasting by oloriooko(op): 7:54pm On Jun 19, 2015
China has banned civil servants, students and teachers in its mainly Muslim Xinjiang region from fasting during Ramadan and ordered restaurants to stay open. Aljazeera report.

Literally, it means Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang have been told not to fast during the Holy Month.

If we recall, Muslims are expected to fast from dawn to dusk during the holy month, which began on Thursday, but China’s ruling Communist party is officially atheist and for years has restricted the practice in Xinjiang, home to the mostly Muslim Uighur minority.

“Food service workplaces will operate normal hours during Ramadan,” said a notice posted last week on the website of the state Food and Drug Administration in Xinjiang’s Jinghe county.

Officials in the region’s Bole county were told: “During Ramadan do not engage in fasting, vigils or other religious activities.”

Each year, the authorities attempt to ban fasting among Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang receive widespread criticism from rights groups.

Uighur rights groups say China’s restrictions on Islam in Xinjiang have added to ethnic tensions in the region, where clashes have killed hundreds in recent years.

China says it faces a “terrorist threat” in Xinjiang, with officials blaming “religious extremism” for the growing violence.

“China’s goal in prohibiting fasting is to forcibly move Uighurs away from their Muslim culture during Ramadan,” said Dilxat Rexit, a spokesman for the exiled World Uyghur Congress.
Travel › White Night In St. Petersburg, Russia by oloriooko(op): 5:47pm On Jun 19, 2015
White Night in St. Petersburg, Russia

From late May to early July the nights are bright in St Petersburg, with the brightest period, the White Nights, normally lasting from June 11th to July 2nd. The White Nights (Beliye Nochi) are a curious phenomenon caused by St. Petersburg's very northerly geographical location - at 59 degrees 57' North (roughly on the same latitude as Oslo, Norway, the southern tip of Greenland and Seward, Alaska).

St. Petersburg is the world's most northern city with a population over 1 million, and its stands at such a high latitude that the sun does not descend below the horizon enough for the sky to grow dark. In fact night becomes curiously indistinguishable from day, so much so that the authorities never need to turn the city's streetlights on!

These our great party leaders are becoming nuisance and doing everything like PDP. Jega's pronouncement is of irrelevance rather seeking justice in the law court is the civil way to go about this matter instead of trading words with Jega.
We need to be taught thoroughly bout this change we chant daily.

Way too many dumb illiterates on Nairaland these days. Nobody cared to google this young man to find out more about him. You think say na beans to be playing in Real Madrid youth side since he was a little kid? Spanish national junior sides? Football is massive in Spain and for him to be in Castilla for such a long time means he's very good.. None of you know that boys life experiences as a coloured person in spain (I don't know either) and the reason he wants to swap allegiance. I live in Spain and i understand things can be rough for people like him and me.
Bro slow down!
That you live in Spain and googled the guy does not make you smarter rather you are more informed bout the guy. Calling people dumb on this forum is taking your 'saara' beyond the mosque.
Anyway thanks for the info you gave smiley

Foreign Affairs › World Leader With Longest Name! by oloriooko(op): 5:56am On Jun 17, 2015
The new president of Madagascar, Hery Rajaonarimampianina, has made it into the record books as the head of state with the longest family name. But how do other countries' leaders fare?

Former finance minister Hery Rajaonarimampianina has won the run-off presidential election in Madagascar. Though his main rival has claimed that the vote was rigged, nobody would deny that Rajaonarimampianina is the hands down winner when it comes to nomenclature.

His family name alone racks up an impressive 19 characters and (we think) nine syllables. His full name – Hery Martial Rakotoarimanana Rajaonarimampianina – totals 44 characters.

One would assume that repeating three years in primary education just to master the spelling of his name would hold Rajaonarimampianina back in life (we have no evidence that happened) but on the basis of our story, it appears that a long name can be good for a career in politics.

op stop yarning rubbish! manu garba has developed players that will serve the super eagles for years to come.

Age grade is not always about winning trophy but developing a football culture.....Germany has never won the U17 or U20 world cup but they are the best in main national team because they developed the age grade youngsters for the senior team without necessary wining trophies

what manu garba has done is far better than winning the cup with over age average players who fade out in no time
Am not tabbing rubbish, this is my opinion and am entitled to share it. If you do not like it that's your own cup of agbo.
Furthermore, all you wrote is someone trying to console himself even though the loss pained you to the bones

I heard Manu on a radio program said Nacho was not fit for that competition! God help us! Was it not same Nacho that scored for Man City youth team just before the U20 competition?
What of Isaac, Yahaya and Simon, were they also not fit?
Manu needs to be arrested for proper questioning by EFCC cuz it was evident he sold Nigeria out in that competition by deliberately benching the best legs throughout the competition.
Nigeria had the best reserve bench capable of beating any first eleven of any team in that competition.
Manu must tell us why he benched those boys and explain how he intended winning the trophy with players who have only played for academies as against some who are already playing professional football in Europe.
Posterity will not forgive Manu for dashing the hopes of millions of Nigerians and boasting that he did his best. Hian!

OP
This is arrant nonsense and demonstration of high level of ignorance.
These leaders were not chosen but voted in, so what are you talking about here.
1. APC delivered the deputy seat to PDP free of charge
2. The OP suddenly discovered that these guys are oil barons when it came to choice of leadership in the house but not before and during the elections
3. APC should take full responsibility for the mess in the house , learn from it and move on.

In this context, if you now have more than one wife, then it becomes immortality.
Please avoid quoting the bible out of context 1Cor. 7:2-6

Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. [3] Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. [4] The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. [5] Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency. [6] But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment.

Christianity Etc › Re: Can A Born Again Christian Marry More Than One Wife?. by oloriooko(m): 7:58am On Jun 14, 2015
thorpido:
No,a born again Christian cannot marry more than one wife.
Those examples of Abraham,David etc your mentioned were not Christians. They were people under a period where grace and truth had not come and God permitted then because it had not yet become possible to take on the nature of the recreated man which happened by the redemptive works of Jesus Christ.

Jesus said,......from the beginning, male and female created He them(Matt.19:4-9).Which means God's design was a man and one wife in the first place.
Why do you guys keep saying this?
Your explanation is quite unconvincing and lacks persuasive content. Please let us talk from the bible.

The names you mentioned, Abraham, Jacob, David and Solomon were not Christians..

Christianity started with the coming of Christ.,

@your question, the answer is no, a Christian should marry just one wife.
What do you mean they are not Christians?
What were they?
