Sports › Remember Your Posts About Eagles? by oloriooko(op): 10:10am On Feb 13, 2013
Let me refresh your memories about some posts fellow N/L posted when AFCON was in the prelim stages:

omar22: Not only the worst, he (Keshi) makes Amodu look like Pep Guardiola, so clueless!!!!
jhydebaba: KOREA/JAPAN 2002 Onigbinde's team was not in ur list.
In my view, this is the worst Nigeria ever presented but I believe in miracles. When we least expect, God can make things happen.
binger: Yep,this generation of Super Chickens Eagles play soccer worse than street footballers...buh my concern is Musa. Damn! That guy shud be banned frm playing soccer.
ayusco85: This is the worst team ever. Why is mikel playing like A̶̲̥̅ home based player that has never played professional football? He lacks confidence and creativity. He should be the one carrying the teams, but he seems to be clueless just as his coach. SMH. *hisses and spits*
This is surely the worst super eagles squad.
Fiawest: It is too early to judge,One thing I'm sure of is that Keshi will go down as d worst Coach in Nigeria.Yes we can pull a surprise.
Ogbeche77: Musa's selection in the national team is a FRAUD that needs to be investigated, dude should have no business playing on a FOOTBALL FIELD
lastmanstandn: This is the worst eagles i have ever watched play football.
good players, bad tactics (in fact tacticless team)
this team makes Siasia's team look like Barca.
Bleep'ing unpatriotic thwarts!!!
This team is a new team and so far, they are delivering. If you think football is all about publishing stupid analysis on Nl, then you're high on dog s'h'I't.
eagles will soar at SA, and this team will perform wonders. If you don't like it, 3rd mainland bridge is waiting for your a'r's'e!!!
ben izu: Its kinda too early to Judge Keshi's performances, though so far, it has not been a smooth ride for the eagles, nevertheless, lets be patient till our next match with Ivory Coast
dopeJemi: Yes Yes and Yes
Wah happened 2 d likes of d Ameobi brothers, martins, odemwingie, taye, anichebe, onuoha
SeriousLy speaking, I don't fink home based pLayers r good and smart enof 4 dis tournament
Look at CIV and u'lL understand wah I'm taLking abt
angry
sleekymag: You also didn't include the 2010 World Cup team in South Africa (though that wasn't an entirely bad team).
I still think Keshi's team (crop of players) is good. However, Keshi's tactical prowess leaves so much to be desired. How can you bring in Yobo as a replacement for a midfielder (Mikel) when you're two goals up, playing against a ten-man team with an auxiliary goalkeeper? KESHI is too defensive-conscious and that was what killed us in our first two games (defending after scoring just one goal, instead of going for more). I feel with another coach, this same team would have bagged 9 points easily.
mumumugu: Better than siasia team that couldnt qualify us for nation cup
dady12: nigeria under 17 will do more better than the super eagle, infact, one can confirm that they dont train together, they ve no pattern of playing, their tourching is poor, musa is no longer musa again, mikel passing are not accurate, echijile is playing with fear ,this is the worst team so far,but The God that manoevre champion league to chelsea when they are not on form can still help super eagles to win the nation cup
nifemi01: Keshi is to football what jonathan is to politics.
Yesterday's match is d first match since 2010 world cup that i watched and their performance was shambolic.
Omerian Consult: I believe so. We have never had it this bad at d continental level esp at d beginning of d tourney.
Marksule: One thing i would love nigerians to do is to support the super eagles no matter what. And we should jes encourage them, it is not easy
dotreal4life: When Siasia was building a formidable team, people like Amokachi and Ikpeba (Basket Mouth) used their rubish mouths to force him out of office (On DSTV programmes). Where is Ikpeba now? We need him to come out and rubish this Amokachi and keshi's team. Backbelle set of people. Na so dem do for Late King Yekini. Posterity will judge all of you. In my opinior, this team is the worst Nigerian team ever.
Tony Spike: You know, I think Onigbinde's team which we all condemned back then was one of the best year 2000's series teams we ever had. We still had very good and dependable players back then. The Nigerian team today plays as if it is rudderless team. No cohesion, no team-work, just a drab collection of classless players.
@Keshi, we told you so. #Osazewasright
sleekymag: In the first half against Ethopia, Nigeria dominated possession 66% to Ethopia's 34%. At the end of the game, Nigeria still had 60% to Ethopia's 40%. It's just that the guys didn't have any cutting edge, and that is Keshi's fault IMHO.
tbaba1234: This is untrue...
This is not the worst eagles team ever. Maybe the least experienced but certainly not the worst.
At 2:0 against 10 men, Nigeria played it safe yesterday, which was the wise thing to do. In the game against burkinafaso, we needed to keep possession but we attacked, lost possession and were punished on the counter.
Musa has been heavily criticized but on his day, we know he can be a menace to any defence.
We are rebuilding and it takes time. Even if we lose, I hope the coach retains his job.
Mcleo007: Aside patriotism, this is the best assemblage of Eagles I've seen in many yrs, albeit the likes of Echiejile and Musa who've been below par. Thing abt most Nigeria fans/analysts; they watch games just but don't read them tacitly. The game on sunday would be a completely different package and many of you here will eat your words. Most of those guys are playing international competition for the first time save for the likes of Enyeama, Yobo, Mikel and Echiejele. They sure need more grooming to be at their best. IMO, the mistake the coaching crew made in their selection was leaving out Martins and Taiwo. Those two would have lit up the teams attach. As for Mikel, he's the beacon of this Eagles. The starlight!
nifemi01: manoevre wetin? Even before d tournament began, most nigerian knew we were just there to make up the number.
With this their pathetic performance they will be so lucky if ivory coast doesn't give them a good hiding.

Sports › NFF Pressured Keshi To Accept Foreign Boss — Mark by oloriooko(op): 9:02am On Feb 13, 2013
Coach Stephen Keshi resignation saga is throwing up more facts as the Senate President David Mark on Tuesday revealed that the Nigeria Football Federation had pressured him into signing a fresh clause to his contract that would have placed a new foreign technical adviser above him.

Mark made the revelation in Abuja while addressing the Senate on his trip to Africa Nations Cup and the crisis that hit the Nigeria camp immediately after winning the trophy on Sunday.

President of the Senate said that he spoke to Keshi on the phone on Tuesday morning and confirmed that the coach had actually resigned, and cited reasons of interference for his decision.

He said, “I spoke with Stephen Keshi this morning and he confirmed to me that he actually said that he has resigned. He said the reason is because there was too much interference even before the final match on Sunday. There was a lot of pressure on him that he must accept foreign technical adviser and this he is opposed to because he thinks that all that we need is in this country. That there are Nigerians who can work with him and he doesn’t see the gain in bringing foreigners.

“But he also said he was sorry he had to actually put in his resignation. But I think he is prepared to rescind it provided that we don’t force foreign technical partners on him. Once we give him the team to manage we should give him the free hand to manage the team.

“Whatever way he goes to get the result shouldn’t be our problem because once we begin to meddle in the way he is going to run and manage the team then we cannot get results. Once we give him the task we should give him the free hand to accomplish the task and bring the result and I think this Senate must be unanimous in that.

“We should prevail on him not to resign and also that the Sports Ministry or the administrators must give him the free hand to bring us the result that we want. People believe that we are great but we must show them that we can do it not by words but by actions.”

Earlier on the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and others, had brought for consideration a motion on Nigeria’s victory at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

Ekweremadu, while presenting the motion noted the tenacity and the spirit, patriotic zeal as well as the unity and team spirit displayed by players, coaches and the entire management.

He also noted with satisfaction, the contribution of the home-based players to the overall success of the team.

“The Senate is nevertheless mindful of the degeneration of grassroots football, poor standard of our local leagues, and the many challenges facing the nation’s football and sports development in general,” he said.

In its resolution, the Senate gave the team a standing ovation after congratulating the players and the coaches.

Sports › I Deserve Some Respect From Keshi – Maigari by oloriooko(op): 8:55am On Feb 13, 2013
Nigeria Football Federation President, Aminu Maigari believes he deserves some respect from Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi. He said the manner the coach announced his resignation on Monday evening on a radio programme smacks off disrespect. He said he has not spoken to Stephen Keshi since the coach announced the resignation on Monday evening.

Keshi dropped his bombshell during a radio show on Monday in Johannesburg, and Maigari implied that the coach did not show respect. “I was as surprised as anybody else to hear that he had resigned because I never saw a letter from him. I employed him and there are processes in place for doing things. If he wanted to resign, he should have shown me respect by informing me the proper way,” Maigari tells KickOffNigeria.com.

Despite Keshi having met with Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi in the early hours before agreeing to rescind his decision, Maigari said he had not spoken to the coach. “I haven’t talked to him. If he has something to tell me, he should come and tell me.”

Abdullahi, however, said he spoke to Maigari before going into his meeting with Keshi. All three were on the same chartered flight taking the team to Abuja, but Keshi and most NFF officials avoided each other all the way to boarding. Abdullahi admits that some friction remains, but says there will be time to resolve all that. “This is not the time for that. For now we have resolved the issue and he will be staying. After the reception we will sit down and sort things out.

Christianity Etc › South Africa's Black Billionaire To Donate Half His Wealth To The Poor by oloriooko(op): 3:44pm On Feb 12, 2013
South Africa's richest black man, Patrice Motsepe, has announced he is giving away half his wealth to improve the lives of the poor.

The mining magnate said the money would be handled by the Motsepe Foundation to address education and health issues.

He said he was inspired by the word's two wealthiest men, Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, who are encouraging billionaires to donate to charity.

Mr Motsepe has a net worth of $2.65bn (£1.67bn), Forbes' rich list estimates.

'Part of our culture'

Born in the Soweto township, he is a lawyer by training and South Africa's first and only black billionaire.

He founded the publicly traded mining conglomerate, African Rainbow Minerals, which has interests in platinum, gold, coal and other minerals.

He made most of his mining fortune through the government's black economic empowerment policy, which mandates that mining companies be at least 26% black-owned, says the BBC's Pumza Fihlani in Johannesburg.

The businessman also owns Pretoria-based football club Mamelodi Sundowns.

Mr Motsepe made the announcement at an event in Johannesburg, where on a live video link Microsoft founder Mr Gates praised his decision.

He said he was also going to join the The Giving Pledge, a campaign started by Mr Gates and investor Mr Buffet in 2010. So far more than 70 billionaires have signed up to it.

"I decided quite some time ago to give at least half of the funds generated by our family assets to uplift poor and other disadvantaged and marginalised South Africans but was also duty-bound and committed to ensuring that it would be done in a way that protects the interests and retains the confidence of our shareholders and investors," Mr Motsepe said in a statement.

Mr Motsepe said he was also inspired by the spirit of "ubuntu" - an African belief system which translates as "I am because you are", meaning individuals need other people to be fulfilled.

"South Africans are caring, compassionate and loving people. It has always been part of our culture and tradition to assist and care for less fortunate and marginalised members of our communities. This culture is also embodied in the spirit and tradition of ubuntu/botho," he said.

His wife Precious Motsepe told the BBC that the move would help counter the impression that Africa is always waiting for outside help.

"Yes we've got challenges but we also have an opportunity, particularly in this century, to turn our continent around and portray Africa in a positive light," she said.

"We can begin to do things for ourselves that show the world that not only are we recipients of aid but we can also begin to do things for ourselves."

@stagger
stagger: As someone who represented school and university in NUGA games and even the State Challenge Cup (now Federations Cup), I used Umbro Pro Contra gloves which was the second highest rated gloves in the Umbro series. It was used by many Italian goalkeepers in Serie A.

Goalkeeper's gloves are rated on several parameters including grip and adhesiveness in wet conditions. The latex padding used to make the gloves perform best when they are slightly wet.

My fellow goalkeepers who used fake gloves were always surprised when in rainy games, I would grip shots that would otherwise have slipped off theirs.

I used to take a bottle of water with me to the pitch and wet my gloves occasionally, but today's keepers have improvised by spitting into the gloves. I used to spit into the gloves occasionally during matches as there is usually no time to fetch the water bottle when there is action in the field of play.

So spitting improves the grip. Final answer from someone who played as a goalkeeper and broke 6 fingers over a 10 year span.
You have said it all, no other explanations than this, thank you.
