How can the legislature of a country with the largest number of poor people globally choose, almost biannually, to expend scarce FX on buying expensive foreign automobiles at the expense of a budding Nigerian brand (however "inferior" they think it is). I was watching a program shot around 2008/10 on Aljazeera about India and the struggle to gain admission into the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). To my amazement, a senior police officer of a rank somewhat equivalent to a CP had a Fiat Padmini as official vehicle! Up to the early 2000s, the PM of India was using the Hindustan Ambassador (an iconic car) for state functions. This is an India with an economy almost 7 times the size of ours!

Ideally, what should be the business of officials of a country with over 100 million poor people (highest globally) with expensive foreign automobiles?

When some dunces want to make excuses, they'd say Innoson is not a proven brand, or that it is an imitation of a Chinese brand. So what! It employs Nigerians; pays taxes and duties into the Nigerian coffers; it is making our auto industry kick and it is putting us on the map of automobile manufacturers! Commonsensically, against what some lunatics would infer by saying "moving coffins", if the IVM brand of automobiles were not safe, foreign countries wouldn't even come near it.

China kicked off by imitating Western automobile designs and concepts, exactly what IVM is doing. Today, it is leading the US in the race for 5G technology and breaking new bounds in other areas.

This is a country of foolish, myopic and ignorant people.

Guy u get brain. Most Nigeria politicians are illiterate who don't know their left hand from the right. Look at China, they are competing with the US today but they started by copying Western technology.

They go to NASS for luxury and opportunity but not to help the masses who voted them in. Bunch of myopic and incompetent individual.

The problem goes beyond the selfish and lazy attitude from students, it also extent to the selfish and lazy attitude of the whole society - politicians, lecturers, parents, everybody but a very select few.
Our educational system is designed towards passing exams and looking for administrative jobs. Forget the engineering tag, most Nigerian engineers are trained to be administrators, and hence search for banking and government jobs after graduation. The educational curriculum is not design to help solve problems within the society.
I remember in my youth days, my friend and I used to make simple short wave and FM radio circuits. When I discussed with an electronics and engineering graduate about the topic, he said I was speaking Greek. That they never really worked with simple transistors not to talk of logic gates.
Today, undergraduates have no excuse not to know how to apply theories to build practical things. The Internet has open up a whole new world. The pity is that student only know how to use the Internet to Facebook, social media and watch porn. During my time, I had to sleep in libraries to get valuable info on how things work.
Google Taylor Wilson. The boy learnt though the Internet how to build nuclear reactors and built his first reactor by age 15. He is a celebrity today at age 19. At 17 Obama offered him a job. He refused saying he would prefer to sell his knowledge and reactors to government instead of working for them. He never went to the university, meanwhile we have PHD engineering graduates carrying their certificates up and down looking for administrative jobs.

The man in charge of Kenya's computerised voting system has been found dead just days before the 8 August elections.

Chris Msando, an electoral commission IT manager, had gone missing on Friday.

"There was no doubt he was tortured and murdered," said IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati.

Tension is high as the presidential election is expected to be a close race between incumbent Uhuru Kenyatta and long-time opponent Raila Odinga.

Police said on Monday that the bodies of Mr Msando and an unidentified woman had been found in the Kikuyu area on the outskirts of Nairobi and taken to the city mortuary.

Today was supposed to big a day for Chris Msando - he was to oversee the public testing of the voting system which has been vaunted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as key to eliminate vote rigging and to deliver a credible election.

The Kenya Integrated Electoral Management System (KIEMS) will be used to identify voters and transmit results.
A similar electronic system that was used in the 2013 election failed spectacularly, leading to manual counting of votes which some have argued allowed for voter manipulation.

Mr Msando had only been on the job for two months, having taken over after his predecessor was suspended for refusing to cooperate with an audit firm which was cleaning the voters' register.
His death will do little to assuage growing concerns about the IEBC's election preparedness and questions about its credibility.
On Twitter, his name and #RIPMsando are trending, with many expressing shock and disgust at what to them looks like a targeted elimination.
