So after almost two years of waiting, Activision finally releases their much anticipated COD Warzone Mobile, the mobile version of the popular console game. As a Nigerian in Nigeria, have you downloaded it and what is the experience like? Any performance issues? Does your phone matter concerning most people game with mid-range models over here. Nairaland / General / Libya's Modern Slave Trade: When Will Black Lives Matter? by oluamid(m): 7:06pm On Dec 01, 2017 |
Written By Olumide Aduloju When leaders of countries in the western hemisphere deal with others, they put their country and citizens first. Even in interacting with each other, they still make sure that their people determine their decisions irrespective of personal convictions. It is why Britain had to leave the European Union. Ordinary Britons wanted to leave even when their leaders didn't. Unfortunately, in this part of the world, country or opinions of citizens mean next to nothing, never mind their lives. Imagine for a moment those sold in the Libyan slavery auctions were Americans or Europeans or even Chinese. By now, military boots will be on the ground, those responsible would have been fished out, sanctions would have been piled on Libya, the country would have been kicked out of every international body it's a member of, including the African Union. But here we are, it's "only" Africans who are affected, West Africans for that matter. The bottom of the bottom of the human food chain. The African Union finally found its voice and only to bark not to in any way bite. The Nigerian government can't even decide what it wants to do. The President hasn't deemed it fit to address Nigerians on the matter, never mind the Libyans. Meanwhile, Nigerians might be sold to slavery tonight. I'm not one of those who believe the black race is in any way inferior to other races, but situations like this Libya Slave trade makes one wonder. How come we don't place any sort of premium on the black skin? The desperate migrant couldn't give a hoot if he licks the boot of every Libyan slave driver in his bid to cross to Europe and to "better life". The Libyan, and by extension the rest of the Arab world, thinks the black man is worth less than dogs and treats him as such (they even have a special name they call us, "Abed" or something like that), the Whites don't want us landing on their shores and are more than complicit in this reenactment of dark history. Even Black Africans do not seem to have empathy for themselves. This particular issue has been making the rounds on social media since last week and only got into our consciousness this week. Recall, it took the intervention of an American owned news network, CNN, to bring this issue to light. Where are the African journalists? Where are the human rights activists? The tragedy of the whole thing is that our leaders won't be decisive or take any form of action that will forestall this kind of injury on humanity in future. Libya remains a firm member of the African Union, they still have their envoys all over Africa including in Nigeria. It took a former football player to get Cameroonians home from that hellish country called Libya. Their President is too busy inflicting his own brand of brutality on a section of that country to care. When will the Black race rise from its slumber? When will Black lives start to matter? |

sonnie10: There's no shame here. It's what should happen that has happened. The Media has done its job by highlighting one of the things that needs fixing in the south west. What should follow is holistic effort to fix things. What sort of legacy will the current generation be leaving when education is left in shambles? If things were this bad in the 80s and 90s, the region won't produce its current crop of tertiary graduates. This shouldn't become a tribal bashing or political issue. I like articles such as this. Kudos to Premium Times. My hope is that governments in the region will recognise the urgent need to do something about this ugly trend. 3 Likes |

permit: The knowledge of the existence of God is beyond the reach of scientists down the millenia whom have made it their life work to discover and plug the holes in human knowledge, yet it is within the grasp of those who suspend reason and take by "faith" what is written down in some ancient texts? Religion / Re: Who Created God? - An Invalid Question by oluamid(m): 10:05am On Sep 03, 2017 |
winner01: The major problem with your entire surmise is that even before you started you had already concluded that there is God and your statements was only to support your view. For example, when describing what God is you took to the bible. The same bible that says only a fool says that there is no God without exactly trying to give incontrovertible evidence of God's existence beyond "faith". You didn't exactly disprove the question of who created God either. If as you said something cannot come out from nothing, then it follows logically that God has a creator and must also have a beginning. You can't separate God from time since God has never at any point in history made himself known to the world except in religious texts. A question, if at the beginning there was nothingness, at what point did God decide to change this state? And what term of reference does he have given there's no antecedents for creation? My view is that the deepest secrets of the universe is unknownable with present human knowledge in all it forms whether spiritual or physical. What if, hypothetically speaking, ET life exists and at a point in time earth comes in contact with other beings in the universe? And these ETs give us a fresh view of things? How will the bible or any other earthly religion be able to explain this? Anyways, to each his own. We all continue to seek answers. Some of us are content to stick with what some of the religions offer. Some of us aren't. 3 Likes 1 Share |

SenatorM: I don't do this ethnic bashing that is a pastime on Nairaland these days, but do you truly believe the Yoruba as a people have anything to fear about the Niger Delta? Tell us to leave and we'd probably do that to avoid trouble but go one step further and apply violence and the repercussion will be scary. The Yoruba has faced worst threats against greater odds and have always come out on top. This won't be any different. By the way, all these talk is just academic as October 1 will come and go and the only thing we will all grumble about but still celebrate is another Independence day. 1 Like |

Because a lot of Nigerians are Christians and they revere the Bible, I'm going to drop some biblical quotes to buttress the points the author and other posters have made: Proverbs 29:1 "Whoever remains stiff-necked after many rebukes will suddenly be destroyed--without remedy." 2 Chronicles 36:16 "but they continually mocked the messengers of God, despised His words and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against His people, until there was no remedy." Jeremiah 17:23 "Yet they did not listen or incline their ears, but stiffened their necks in order not to listen or take correction." Jeremiah 36:31 "I will also punish him and his descendants and his servants for their iniquity, and I will bring on them and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and the men of Judah all the calamity that I have declared to them-- but they did not listen." Isaiah 48:4 "Because I know that you are obstinate, And your neck is an iron sinew And your forehead bronze," |

kikake: I wonder what you expect the governor to say. Does he have superpowers or the wherewithal to conduct an independent investigation at such short notice without involving the police? __________________________________________________________________ It seems to me that many people are more concerned with the politics of death (which tribe or armed group killed what persons) instead of calling this what it is - a cold, inhuman and needless bloodshed that a) must never be allowed to repeat itself anywhere b) whose culprits must be fished out and made to face the full strength of the law. What does it matter whether a member of one ethnic group or another was responsible? The dead do not care. We should leave all petty issues out of this GRAVE (no pun intended) situation. They don't matter. What matter is that there is no repeat performance and a sense of justice for the grieving families. 3 Likes |

odysey: Lol. No mind GGRM. But you are in good company as I'm also doing the same thing. Reason he named Tyrion was to provoke a war since he's aware of the Stark's distrust of Lannisters. Tyrion was also the most likely candidate as most people see him as devious because of his dwarfism. Besides, Littlefinger knew only the Starks and the Lannisters can create the kind of chaos in the realm that will enable him climb the ladder to attain the Iron Throne. 1 Like |

Well, why not? I'm sure the three of you are all adults and are capable of making decisions for yourselves. If you are into the guy the way he is in to you then I don't see what's stopping both of you from being romantically involved. Not all relationships end in marriage or even start in love on both sides. You may be lucky it ends in an happily ever after or like majority of relationships, crash in time. It doesn't matter. You can only deal with what's in front of you. Your friend either get in sync with that or ship out. |

Will (the POV character hiding on the tree) noted that the sound the WW made sounded like it was mocking the knight's realisation of the situation. I doubt if it was any magical doing. |

My observations after re-reading A Games of Thrones prologue: Steel could actually be used to fight the others but only one with great skill could hope to win such a battle. I wish I can copy out the exact text, but when Ser Weymar met with the other (in the prologue of A Game of Thrones) he raised up his sword above his head with trembling hands. The Other didn't attack immediately. Rather, its eyes went to the trembling sword and he watched it with rapt attention (Could it be the Other was afraid the sword might actually stand a chance against him? Could he be thinking it was Lightbringer?). When both of them started to "dance", Ser Weymar met the Other's sword many times (with his castle-forged steel sword). In fact, they fought for quite a while ("a flurry of blows". It was not until Ser Weymar was wounded and grew tired that his sword shattered on impact. Does this mean steel could actually be used against the others but would require someone with great skill as to be able to win the fight without needing armour? Just thinking. Can a Ser Barristan Selmy, a Jaime Lannister, A Brienne of Tarth, or an Oberyn Martell be able to withstand a fight with an Other using a steel sword? Would Jon Snow? |

kay9: But given the kind of man he later became (the man of secrets and overarching ambition), he ought to have figured it all out. After all, Lysa was always dotting on him while Catelyn had only tolerated him. He wanted to be deceived. How could he not have snapped out of his childhood puppy love for Catelyn after all these years and all the humiliations? After Brandon Stark and the fact that Catelyn didn't even give him her favour? The fact that he even transferred the thing to Catelyn's daughter, Sansa, shows the man could be a sexual predator. Lol. Don't mind me. I just don't like the guy. He's the very definition of a snake. 2 Likes |
