This post is like asking "How can I trust my husband? He cheats on me and beats me daily but says he loves me. How can I trust him more?"

You just hit the proverbial nail on the head right there. When someone is in an hyper abusive relationship with a fellow human they say leave before he kills you. But for God they say he has his ways of doing things and you shouldn't question but rather love him more. Imagine

Religious faith is a farce.

jaqen Hagar
seeing his character remove his current face to show that he is syrio forel all along would be cool.
it would mean that he knows Ned on some level and never really meant for Arya to spend all her time as a hired killer.

Lol. It's not a theory then. Just a wish you want to be true. Lol. There's evidence that suggestsJagen Hagar is currently in Old town. He was the nameless guy that killed piggy (or whatever his name) one of the acolytes that was looking for money to bed a certain LovePeddler.

You still haven't said anything that suggests the others are afraid of water. I know there's a well/cave that gives passage through the wall. But it's fortified with spells and magic and only a man of the Night's watch can pass. Even Cold Hands (Benjen Stark) couldn't pass.

syrio forel Is the same person as this no name guy.
and the wight/white Walker are not only afraid of fire they are also afraid of water.

I want full credit when the show or book confirm any of these.

White walkers afraid of water how? And who is no name guy? Syrio Forel is a former first sword of Bravos and a former 'water dancer ' tutor of Arya Stark. Who's no one?

Merry Sunday guys. Nice to know we now have new people who are as crazed abt ASOIAF as many alumni of this thread are/were (GRRM has really let a lot of people down by his prevaricating).

To everyone who just discovered the thread and wanted me to send them the books, somewhere on the thread I dropped my BBm pin so that anyone could add me up and request for it. I've lost count of the number of people who I was able to send the files to. But that was a long time ago. Since then, I've had memory card issues and lost all my files. Had to even ask someone on the thread to send the books to me again. So for now I only have books one through five. Add me up on 5C2E9015 if you want a transfer. Besides, a simple Google Search would provide you with download links of any resource material on ASOIAF that you need. Trust me, there are tons of it on the web.

That said, now that the show has done a great/poor job (depending on who you ask) of revealing major plots should, we hold it as canon?

Look at Arya's arc for example. How can you compare Mercedene the acolyte and her warging abilities with that shadow of a character the show has made of Arya Stark?

I read the latest chapter (damphair) and I can say for myself that the show still has nothing on the books. It's only the book that can best describe the Damphair's torment in the belly of the beast in that detail and with such perspective. How possibly can the show convey the glory of seeing Euron Greyjoy in an armor of valyrian steel?

My only prayer is that GRRM has the health to finish writing all the books to the conclusion.

In essence, you are saying one old irrelevant historical event should be the criteria to elect the next governor and not what each man brings to the table or what is going to benefit present day Edo?

It's funny that Nigerians don't seem to know what they expect from their leaders.

Ben Bruce Murray brings a new and refreshing quality that attempts to demystify leadership in Nigeria.

I find it sad that people criticize and Mock him for putting himself out there in the public sphere , on Twitter, to engage Nigerians on daily issues, unscripted and unrehearsed.

In the history of Nigerian politics, no elected officer has ever had the time and humility to climb down from ' Mount Olympus' to engage casually and cordially with the citizenry, the people on whose trust and behalf they exercise their powers.

BMB should be celebrated as A First, a one of a kind mutation in the difficult evolution of good, responsible and responsive leadership in Nigeria.

Pls carry on BMB. smiley

People are not criticizing for being on twitter but for rather making complaints upon complaints on twitter and being silent in the chamber where he could actually get things done. For example, he complained bitterly on twitter how Nigerians are not patronising made in Nigeria goods but was silent when the Senate decided to buy Toyota SUVs rather than Innosson.

That's hipocricy if you ask me. And that's the grudge with the honourable senator.

Politics / Re: President Buhari's Federal Excuses Council - Reno Omokri by oluamid(m): 7:33am On May 31, 2016
Expecting Reno to paint Buhari with a nice brush is like expecting Femi Adesina to praise the Jonathan administration. One thing I want to ask is that through his six years, did Jonathan operate on his own budget or not?

The 2016 budget was passed just this month so I don't know which miracle Mr Reno expects the Buhari govt to perform.

And sir, you don't need to regale us with those paper achievements and figures which had nothing in common with the reality on the streets. Of course, you'd believe it because you were in the corridors of power and was therefore shielded from the true state of things. Number one economy in Africa my foot!

However, I agree that the excuses are getting too much. We already know the previous administration didn't deliver and that's why we voted them out, no need reminding us of that but rather roll up your sleeves and get to work changing the way things are.

The best thing that happened in 2015 was that we now know we have the power to remove the government if they don't perform to our expectations. Come 2019, Nigerians will decide again.

let me use this as an analogy... a min old baby instinctively knows where to put it's mouth and suckle upon... the bond between mother and child is not what you underestimate or explain away... that given you are your fathers son, imagine yourself as an eagle who grew amongst chickens... you see yourself in the pond different from other chickens... there's this crave inside of you... then a day comes you hear a cry you never have heard since you were birthed albeit the sound cuts across your soul as familiar as the answer to who you really are... you can decipher what that cry is... it tells your to flap that wing of yours to ascend in flight far above what you never have seen or imagined possible that in itself is the beginning of self discovery of who you truly are...you firstly are a Spirit within a body, the Spirit is You.. your essence not your body... your body only is the legality you need to be on this earthly plain... now that given, The Good book is Spiritual and must be spiritually discerned... now, treasures must be hidden from those who do not understand or appreciate it's value... you so not cast your pearls to swine... only a willing heart thirsty for the Truth will find it.
BTW there are seeds of GOD scattered across different religions... the question is finding their way back to their Father... religion was carefully and deliberately crafted to discourage and confuse mankind to the path to take... JESUS CHRIST for this reason clearly stated : I AM, The Way...The Truth... and The Life... no matter your religious views or inclinations drop religion for a min and search for THE TRUTH

Clap for yourself, you just went back to the middle ages.. . In 2016! gbola5 set me straight.
I still think it won't make sense at all.

It would if you look at it in this light.

Eddard Stark and Howland Reed were the only two survivors of the Tower of bells. Reed was Stark's best friend and trusted adviser. Reed was probably there at Lynna Stark's birth bed/death bed along with Eddard. It would be easier to pass off one child than two as your bastard. Why did Howland Reed send Meera and Jojen to Winterfell his only two children when he could have sent Jojen alone with guards? It was also a common knowledge the lady Ashara Dayne get birth to one baby and not twins.

Well it's all conjecture but then it does has it's own merits.

johnydon22:

..Humanity is so vulnerable that we leave that which is in front of us to chase after that which we do not have or know but a figment of our imaginations, thoughts and wishes.

the above quote of mine holds true for our perception of death.

Haven't you noticed how the word "Death" gives rise to different philosophies of hopeful realities to many.

-On one hand some speculate we do not really die but transcends and then gets reborn and live again and so it goes in a circle.

-Another suggests we do not get reborn but some thinking formless needless part of us continues somewhere else.

-Plato suggests the body is a prison for the soul.

Where as all these philosophies are profound and hopeful, i also call it greed, selfishness and a product of an unmatched ego wielded only by the human mind.

Humans have that egoistic tendency of deluding themselves to be the most important part of the universe..

That is why in this deluding ego they see themselves as deserving to live again but not every other animal or living thing in this earth that also live as they live and feel as they do.

-Just how important are we in this universe?

More important than the stars? Without the stars we won't be here but without us they were, are and will be.

More important than the plants ? without them we won't be here but without us they were, are and will be.

So how exactly are we more important, why do we prize ourselves the most important part of the cosmos when we are so deplorable and expendable that the cosmos won't even notice our disappearance.

So many stories have littered the course of human philosophy on the eventuality of death.

So many wishful hopeful fantasies has been conceived to give hope and comfort to the human mind when faced with the inevitability of death.

-We shall see again in paradise
-we shall be reborn again
-we shall make merry in Valhalla

amongst thousands of such tales.. I do not know how enticing these stories are but i know the greed of a human mind makes them comforting as nobody would like to imagine the absoluteness of the end of our being.

That to me comes from a short memory cus just a little journey backwards whene we were not here, imagining inexistence won't be far fetched.

We have been dead for an infinite time backwards, now we are here and we will soon be dead how then can we not imagine our the state we were before coming to this?.

I really understand the reasons why all these stories crop up in the human mind, why all these philosophies and emotional clutch to a comforting tale defines a huge part of our belief

It is because of the vulnerability of our being.

Being that almost certainly we are probably the only species amongst all in this planet that know at a very young age that we would die one day.

This knowledge of our inevitable end is somewhat like a burden to us .

I doubt that other species Chimpanzee, dogs , elephants even though alive as we are are fretting over an afterlife or performing rituals to earn a place in paradise or somewhere else outside the cosmos.

No they just live in the moment.

With all these stories filling the gap left by fear, vulnerability of our mind, we yet have no evidence to support these fantasies.

I do not claim to have knowledge of what happens in death but if anybody, person or book claims to know, they are both lying and fraudulent.

Because they do not know.

We are so concerned by what we want to be, by what we wish for that we forget and pay little mind to what we have which is NOW

So isn't it better and more noble we forget all these stories and focus on what we have and where we are which is Now and Here

Here and Now are the most important, certain aspect of it all, make them count and don't waste them chasing after a vague shadow of an uncertain wishful fantasy.

Thank you for this.

If only people realise that what they call religion is basically following another person's answer to his fear of the unknown.

If only man could ask himself just a simple question: where was I before I became conscious of life? Then he would have the answer he desperately needs for where he would be when he's no longer conscious of life.

For one thing, no one has come back from the dead to regale us with tales of the "after life" and not even Jesus did that in the so called Bible. Nor has anyone told us about where he was before he was born. It was all learnt here. The basic lesson is, the manner may be different but we will all go the way we came just like billions of humans before us.

Anyways, to each his own. If you want to live your entire life in thrall of the day you die then by all means do so. Just don't try to get the rest of us to do the same or make it seem like we who don't share your fear have nuts loose in the head.

Gys I read this somewhere just now and it is profound...

There’s a theory out there that all the direwolf names are prophetic. I never put much stock in that, but it’s edging closer to being convincing. Summer was killed by the demons of winter (winter is coming, and so goes Summer). Jon was brought back to life (he’s like a Ghost). Sansa had Lady, who was killed by the Lannisters (the theory, which is reaching now, speculates the Lannisters likewise “killed” Sansa’s gentle lady-like side). Robb and his army blew down south, or blew out (like a Grey Wind). I’m not sure how this all applies to Shaggydog (except that Rickon, with his wild mane of mussed hair, looks shaggy himself). And how Arya’s long-lost Nymeria comes into play is anybody’s guess (though there was a warrior queen in Dorne with the same name).

Winter is truly here.

HODOR oh Hodor! Hold The Door! HoldTheDoor! HoldDoor! Holdo! Hodor!!!!!!

*Returns to my mourning of Hodor(and Summer).

Well, its Wednesday already and by now most people would have seen the first episode of the new season. Okay, here are my talking points. tongue Mind, I'll be talking based on what we are yet to see in the books but have seen on the show so this might be a kind of spoiler. Well, not really. grin grin

Where were we?

Miss Deanerys went flying off the back of Drogon and guess who found her in the Dothraki grass sea? Another Khal. Okay, me thinks this will likely be Deanerys' destiny in WoW as well, but with a lot more harshness. As a matter of fact, I expect her to suffer a lot of rapes. Fortunately (or not) Mr Bear-man Jorah Mormont wouldn't be chasing after her. Not that he is in any shape to do such, you know being as yet a Second son who is yet to turn his cloak and declare for the Mysa of dragons. Meanwhile, Mr fineboy Dario Naharis is too busy being a prisoner to have anything to do with it. That said, I think Deanerys will go to Vaes Dothrak to meet the the Dosh Kalen but will somehow turn the whole Dothraki horde to her worshippers and lead them back to Meereen and the stupid wise masters. I suspect Drogon will have something to do with this as well.

Oh Poor Jon Snow, he knows nothing - even dead.

Well, as far as we know, our favourite bastard is still dead. Given recent revelations (more on that later), do you think Melisandre is still the prime candidate to bring him back to life? Well, I'm neither here nor there but some small part of me says yes. What will be the fate of Ghost locked up as he is at Castle black without Jon? I know he's a direwolf but even a nice little sword with a 'pointy end' will kill him just like his brother Grey wind. And if you were a wildling somehere around Castle Black and Jon Snow is dead, what will you do? Besides, it remains to be seen what kind of reception Jane 'fake Arya' Poole will get if/when she finally arrives knocking at Castle Black. Well, lemme leave Jon Snow hanging for now.

Sansa fine girl.

We book readers know that the new episode has nothing on Sansa's character arch. So fingers crossed she marries Harry the heir and lead the Vale against Winterfell? Hmm, how will that work out sef. Mio mo oo.

The Stark beyond the Sea

Arya is my favourite Stark and I expect her training to continue. I want me some nice little assassin. Both in the show and in the books. What's more, she already shows promise with the murder she has done. Go and read the Mercy chapter folks.

Tyrion

I don't even know what to make of the rubbish (IMO) the show is doing to Tyrion in Meereen. I love a sellsword Tyrion over a ruling Tyrion joor. Especially with Penny always ready to spring some surprise kiss on him in his mismatched armour. Lest I forget, he's currently in the middle of a war so no time for kisses. I don't want to be in his shoe when he finally has to pay back his debt to Brown Ben Plumm and the rest of the sons.

Why has Aegon (murmer's dragon?), and the Griff, not appeared on the show? Gendry anyone?

Hopefully the Lannisters will start dying soon. As for Dorne, the less said about all that trash about the sand snakes the better. Which day Ellaria sand start to dey get that kind of skills or cunning to kill Doran Martel? How did the almighty Areo Hotah just fall hand like that without getting to even lift his axe in protest? Yeye dey smell.

The most interesting part of the episode for me was the last part where Mellisandre bamboozle all of us. Was she an old woman all along even in the books all was that just a show gimmick? Or were they trying to have their own King beyond the wall 'glamour' moment? Questions galore.

I'll definetely have more to say subsequently. For now, I'll like to hear what you guys think too... Valar Morghulis!
