I don't think there is a rule to such assistance. Most mother in laws don't even do that but let's assume such occur, I don't think there is a big deal in it for a cool headed lady. I think the real love for her son will not even make her think the mother is doing a bad thing. Beside, op only ask if individual will accept as a lady, she did not say the lady will be rejected it she didn't oblige.
