My first disappointment was those tout looking guys at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport. They are selling products and just trying to extort the first timers. well, I bought a padlock for 500 naira. Got in to check in and obtain my Boarding Pass at Ethiopian Airline Counter. I thought they were going to check in my Luggage box, but they said its too small. I was directed to another staff of the Airline, this one keeps shouting "baba show me love" I gave him 200 naira and i proceeded to the Real touts, not in physical appearance but in their behavior and their graft activities. I have prepared for them already so there was no surprise. I presented my passport, my letter for Visa on arrival and other documents.

"Hey, where are you traveling to?" asked by the Immigration officer
I am traveling to Rwanda
On what purpose?
I am going for a tour
How much BTA do you have with you?
I have 400 dollars
Thats not enough. Do you have hotel reservation?
Ofcourse I do and i gave that to you already
You didn't pay for this hotel
Yeah it was not required.
Why dont you have a Visa on your passport?
Rwanda is Visa on arrival for Nigerians and as you can see on that letter i presented earlier, I was going to get my Visa at Kigali International Airport.

Alright, But you cant go now because you need $1000 BTA and a paid hotel reservation.
Okay, can i have my passport and my documents so i can go and do that.
Surprisingly the Immigration officer said they cant return it that its their property. This is my personal ID, you dont have the right to seize it and for the fact that i need a passport to get BTA, just let me have my property Okay? I said you cant have it i have to refer you to our office, He said. On what offense officer? I asked. When you get to our office, you can ask questions there. Okay go ahead, I replied Him. He filled a form and asked my details to complete this form. On completion, he said you don't understand what you are going to face in our office but i can help you if you cooperate. How can you help?, i asked. Just give me $50 and i will stamp you out. Oh lord, where do i get that from? i asked. He replied "Give me $50 out of the 400 you have with you". Well, you should just refer me to your office. I want to help you but you want to put yourself in problem. How much can you afford? he asked. Well i can only give you #1000. He got falsely angry and was shouting you are going to our office. After an hour, i decided to give in and parted away with 3 thousand naira only. I proceeded to scan my luggage and backpack, they dropped my soap and cream together worth 5000naira.
Got in to an Airbus and at exactly 1:40pm, we took off. The real Journey begins.

You should have maintained your stance and not part with a kobo. Next time ask for the Servicom office or attract attention to your plight, they will easily cower. Its a shame that our ports are beguiled with such unpatriotic fellows.

I stand by my suggestion...If you want to build a business that requires Accountability, Quality and long term sustainability having businesses in the US is a better option but if you want businesses that do not require any accountability, is more focus on quantity rather than quality and careless about its long term sustainability than having the business in Nigeria is the option to go for.
I too take that personally. There are businesses in Nigeria that are done by the books here taking all what you mentioned as standards in the US. Don't paint a gloom picture of the motherland.

Backfornow:

Bed bugs disappeared for 40 years, now they're back with a vengeance. Here's what to know
SEAN ROSSMAN | USA TODAY
2:32 p.m. EDT June 21, 2017

Most Americans fear bed bugs but can't spot one
Our biggest fears can have our minds racing with scary images of bed bugs, but could you spot one? Angeli Kakade (@angelikakade) has the story.
BUZZ60
They're small, blood-sucking parasites perhaps living in the corners and crevices of our beds, feeding off us while we sleep.

Bed bugs, for decades, existed as myths, part of a rhyme our parents told us before bed. Now they've made an unwelcome return and those who know the buggers best say it's high time we start taking them seriously.

Recently fed adult bed bugs and just-hatched baby bed bugs. The white morsels are eggs.
M.F. POTTER
After all, getting a bed bug infestation "is a bit of a crap shoot," conceded University of Kentucky entomologist Michael Potter, meaning all of us are at risk.

Bed bugs used to be "incredibly common" in the early 20th century, Potter said. Back then, people routinely checked for them and carried insecticide while traveling.

But the introduction of potent insecticides killed most of our bed bugs, banishing them from our homes and consciousnesses. The bugs, Potter said, disappeared from about the mid-1950s to the late 1990s. They became so rare people could no longer identify them and a new generation of pest control professionals weren't equipped to fight them, noted University of Florida research scientist Roberto Pereira.

But then they came "roaring back in the last five to seven years," Potter said, creeping into our couches, our apartments and even into the hotel rooms of our NBA stars. The reason why is a mystery, although Pereira and Potter suggest it's because the once potent insecticide is now banned, people travel more and the bugs have grown resistant to modern insecticides.

Now we're left avoiding them. But there are ways. Here's what you need to know:

They're small and flat
If you've never seen one, bed bugs are small, flat, reddish-brown bugs about the size of Abraham Lincoln's head on a penny.

They have an oblong shell and a tiny head. They typically live in areas where people sleep because at night they feed on our blood.

Unlike ticks or fleas, bed bugs don't latch on when they feed. They bite then scurry away to digest. "It's a creepy parasite," described Potter. "It's a little bit like Dracula."

They live off our blood
Bed bugs have to feed on human blood about once a week, Potter said. However, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention claims they can live several months without a "blood meal."

Potter said bed bugs will adapt to your schedule. For instance, if you work the overnight shift, they'll learn to feed on you during the day.

They huddle on your mattress
The black spotting on this blanket are fecal marks left by bed bugs. Such spotting is a tell-tale sign of a bed-bug infestation.
M.F. POTTER
Bed bugs don't form colonies or nest, but they do aggregate, usually within about eight feet of where a person sleeps.

It's popular to find clusters of them on beds and recliners. Very skittish, bed bugs don't like movement, which is why they feed on us while we sleep.

Popular places for them to congregate are in the seams of mattresses, in bed frames, headboards, dressers and behind wallpaper or clutter. A bed bug, notes the CDC, can travel more than 100 feet in a single night.

A third of us get bit, but don't notice
Bed bug bites look like raised welts and can cause serious allergic reactions in some people.

But a third of people don't experience any reaction. This only helps the infestation spread because people don't know they have the bugs.

Cleanliness has nothing to do with it
Bed bug fecal spots on a bed.
M.F. POTTER
The stigma that a filthy home is more at risk of getting bed bugs just isn't true, Potter claims.

Unlike cockroaches, rats or flies, who feed on filth, bed bugs feed on blood. They only need a body. Bed bugs, the CDC said, have been found in five-star hotels and resorts.

So, where do they live?
Bed bugs are most often found in major metropolitan areas. However, over time, the pests have found their way to rural areas.

Anywhere there are close quarters, Potter said, the odds are better. It's a numbers game, he said, because the more people coming and going from a building increases the odds the bugs will find their way there.

Low-income housing also is a target because many people use old bedding and building staff may not take the steps to address the problem.

They don't carry disease

Bed bugs do not carry disease. At most, they're annoyances which cause itching and a lack of sleep.

How do we avoid them?
Experts say people bring an infestation into a home after they've gone to a place with bed bugs and somehow brought them back to their house.

This can happen just about anywhere: At hotels, while riding busses and trains, vacationing on cruise ships and bunking in dorm rooms. They attach to stuff, Potter said, not people. He's seen them on the bottoms of shoes, baseball caps and even Beanie Babies.

But it's unlikely you'll get them from places where people don't sleep. The places where people get some shut-eye are most at risk.

Potter advises people check around hotel beds when first checking in. Pull back the sheets, check the seam and corners of the mattress near the pillows and the headboard. Look for black spots, the bugs themselves or yellowish skins that bed bugs shed.

Try not to spread out in your hotel room. Don't place your open suitcase against a wall. Try to keep it closed and set it on a hard surface. Don't spread clothes across the hotel room.

Potter said each of us needs to strike a balance as to how paranoid we'll be in avoiding bed bugs.

"You got to be careful because you take all the joy out life," he said. "People just have to decide how apprehensive do they want to be."

I don't know why am bothering to respond but for the sake of those who genuinely want to help and need better clarification , I will say this. My husband just completed his PhD in SA and was supposed to start his post doctoral program this January. So he traveled in Nov to attend a seminar and spend some extra weeks vacationing . Unfortunately the post doc didn't work out so he stayed back a little longer and probably see if there are other schools for his post doc and if you read my post well you will see I mentioned he will be back next month. Moreso why will I want to go live in US permanently if I have things working for me here.
Your husband staying back for 3months raises a red flag and you may be denied the Visa ( note my words MAY) I have a friend who made the same error, stayed in the US for 3months came back, two months after went back was denied entry and the visa was canceled. It's always good to stick to the number days u mentioned at the POE.

Hello! Good day everyone. Been following this thread for some days now and I want to appreciate everyone who has chipped in, one way or the other and offered necessary assistance to the "prospective visitors" smiley

However, I need the most sincere advice anyone could give, on a particular issue. I am a 400l student here in Nigeria, expected month of graduation was December 2018, but due to the strike, I really do not know. I'm finishing with a good result so I have zero plans of absconding. I also own my cake store which was registered just few days back under the CAC. My "salary" from this business is just about 20-40k in a good month and I also have monthly allowance from my dad of N40k. Now, my aunties (one in UK, other in US-both citizens) have been suggesting I come visit for some time now but I just have never taken the suggestion seriously until recently.

However, I have no travel history but I also have no plans of staying more than 2 weeks max. I just want to visit and see my aunt and cousin(who's about same age with me, just turned 20). My dad would be sponsoring the trip(flight and maybe tiny shopping lol) but I would be staying with my aunt in the US for the duration of my visit. My dad earns about 600k monthly, has very good travel history (within and outside Africa), has worked with top companies, working with one at the moment, however my parents are separated, I also have two other siblings in school.
What do you think? Should I go on and apply to the US or try UK? Or just chill till I'm working and have my own stable income.

I'm not particular about visiting any other country(in case of building travel history) since I don't know anyone there and would probably be going alone. If yes to the above, the next puzzle is- my dad is also planning to apply for a visa to the US for a business trip. Should we apply together as in, "family" or are our visas different categories since we're both going for very different purposes?
Thank you very much, in anticipation for your wonderful opinions. *hoping the auspiciousness of the time posted, would bring in good comments grin*
Develop a travel history first before applying to the US embassy

Good day my good people of nairaland in different parts of the united state.
Please what is the best step for a friend who had just goten a B2 visa with the family in this 2019 and having the intention of not returning back to Nigeria. Please what are the best step he should take to achieve that and get temp legal stay and later PR? My advice for him is to get there and quickly look for vocational training college or any school of at least 2 years programme, then apply for change of status from B1/B2 to F1 or M1 while the wife and kids will be given F2 or M2 as dependent. As the programme is on, he can be working to raise fund and also looking for job placement so that immediately after the programme he can hook up to a job. Please people in the US with good knowledge and experience in US immigration laws, what are the possibilities of these and other steps for them to take to avoid coming back to Nigeria? Pls your advice, replies and response will be highly appreciated. Thanks
Its illegal advice your friend not to do that, such acts reduces the opportunities for those that genuinely want to visit the US.

Religion / Re: Daddy Freeze Is A Liar, It Is Not Nimrod We Celebrate On Christmas Day by olumig(m): 5:45pm On Dec 25, 2018
alBHAGDADI:
I came across a thread on front page this afternoon being Christmas day and it's from an Instagram post of Daddy Freeze, a well known Antichrist. This post attacks the celebration of Christmas. According to him, it is Nimrod Christians are celebrating when they celebrate Christmas. He went on to ask some questions which can be seen in his quote below.

First and foremost, Daddy Freeze put up a shallow attack on Christmas by saying it is Nimrod that is celebrated on that day. The problem with him is that he and his anti-Christmas bandwagon believe Nimrod is a god and that December 25th was dedicated to him. Where did they get their information from? They got it from Jewish fables, writings from historians who never existed thousand years close to when Nimrod existed. Yet they gullibly believe every junk article that says Nimrod is a god.

Let's allow the Bible tell us who Nimrod was, and since the Bible is our final authority on issues, every other source about Nimrod will be discarded.

Genesis 10:8-9
8 And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth.
9 He was a mighty hunter before the Lord: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the Lord.

As seen above, the Bible didn't record anything bad about Nimrod because being a mighty hunter before God is not a bad description of a person. However, another story about Nimrod can be found in Jewish Talmud written in the Middle Ages, hundreds of years after the New Testament had been in circulation. Now imagine how far the Talmud is to the Old Testament which contains the story of Nimrod and written just shortly after his time.

The Talmud is where you will find stories of how Nimrod was a god who married his mother and gave birth to a son Tamuz who also his reincarnation... blah blah blah. Those are all fables written thousands of years after Nimrod died and by people who didn't exist during his days.

Now that it is established that it is the Jewish Talmud which said Nimrod was a god, cam we now go ahead and believe it over the Bible which didn't mention Nimrod to be a god? No. We are to stay away from the book called Talmud because there is nothing Holy Spirit about it. It is all filled with Jewish fables which the Bible says we should stay away from.

Titus 1:14
Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

We are not to take any Jewish book serious other than the Bible which is enough for us. The Jews are Antichrist, they killed Jesus and are still trying to kill his name today. They are Antichrist. because they reject Jesus as the son of God. Yet, some one wants me to stop celebrating Christmas because of an information he got from people who hate Jesus.

1 John 2:22
Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son

Daddy Freeze says it is Nimrod we are celebrating on Christmas day. Before you believe the lies out of the mouth of that liar, kindly go out there and ask people currently celebrating Christmas if it is Nimrod they are celebrating. They will tell you it is Jesus they are celebrating because he is the reason for the season. It is not Nimrod's name they see when they read about Jesus birth in Luke 2. You will hardly find anyone who knows Nimrod. So to sit somewhere and say Christians are celebrating nimrod is the height of deceit.

Now, to the questions he asked. But before I answered them, I want us to all agree that whatever the Bible doesn't warm against is not a sin nor a wrong thing. Example is the Bible not warning against or supporting the use of mobile phones. It will be silly for someone to now say the use of mobile phones is wrong. Now, to his questions.

1. Did Christ ask us to celebrate his birthday?

Two can play that game. Did Christ tell us NOT to celebrate his birthday? The answer is no. This clearly means there is nothing wrong of we chose to celebrate his birthday. Did Christ tell is to celebrate his resurrection? The answer is No, but we all do because we appreciate his effort in dying for our sins and conquering death by resurrecting. Same thing with his birth which we appreciate because we know he came to save us from our sins.

2 Did the discipleship apostles ask us to celebrate his Birthday?

Did they ask is NOT to celebrate his birthday? The answer is no. So it is not a sin if we do. Anyone saying we shouldn't celebrate the birth of Jesus is simply trying to speak when the disciples, apostles, the Bible and even Jesus himself didn't speak. Those are our authority, and since they in no way told us not to celebrate our Lord and Savior, then no one should stop us.

3. Did the Bible or Torah instruct us to celebrate his birthday?

Did they instruct us NOT to? The answer is no. So Freeze has no case here also. Let's say for example, the Bible doesn't say anything about homosexuals, no one will see it as a sin. So therefore, as the bi me didn't say anything against celebrating the birth of Jesus, then it is no sin if we do so.

4. So where did we get this nonsense from?

First and foremost, it is not nonsense celebrating the birth of Jesus. Many have come to the knowledge of Jesus through Christmas. Muslims and Atheists are celebrating Christmas as we speak and hey exposed to hearing ore about the Savior our Lord Jesus. The whole world stands at attention on Christmas day. Even unbelievers have no choice but to reckon with the day. Families get reunited and loved ones share gifts. Christmas is the biggest holiday which the gate of hell cannot prevail over.

Now, to his question which is where we got Christmas from. We got it from the Holy angels who left heaven and came to earth to rejoice in the sky at the news of the birth of Jesus. It was a joyful day so much that the wicked people of those days tried to kill baby Jesus. Those wicked people are still operating today trying to kill Christmas which is a day the name Jesus sounds so loud that it echoes in all corners of the world.

We Christians decided to celebrate that day because God has given us power to bind and lose one earth anything we want.

Mathew 18:18
Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

We have bound December 25th as the day for the celebration of the north of Jesus. Nothing Satan and hell cam do against it.

To know more about how the lies of anti-christmas agents, read the below link which shows how they get Busted.
