Gained a lot from ds group b4 I took GRE. Thanks to those that contributed, was accepted to TAMUK lastweek.

I want to seek advice from you all, please help a confused soul. I just concluded my BS (OAU) with a GPA > 3.7/4. I intend to take GRE this year, and I am trusting God and this wonderful thread. I have few questions to ask you all:
1. Can i apply for Phd directly in the US? if yes, what are the things with which I should arm myself?
2. I need a full scholarship for I am weak financially, should i concentrate solely on USA?
3. What other countries would you suggest i try?
I wanna major in Biotechnology.

Hello house, Guess the weekend is going on fine..This is to sirriddy (I could have call or whatsapp you privately but i feel someone might need this too now or in future) and all the experienced guys here. I just checked one of my applications now and saw on the application portal that i have been recommended for admission by the department to the Grad school since 2nd of February 2016, but i have not received an email to that effect. I am like should i contact the Graduate Coordinator or i should just chill and wait for official email? I need to start bombarding that Grad Coordination emails about Funding because no time.

As for me, I believe the "leak" is intentional. Nysc is aware, they only want to make sure 99% pay the 3K.. If u register now, u can view the state immediately, its a strategy, the link is not only on nysc's server, it's has all d details of PCM immediately,...... all na strategy... it is working tho! Kudos!.... Whr my Edo corpers @? Notin like fake..... Nysc is smart! Be like Nysc. That's why even the text say "unauthorized viewing". They could av easily made the link to be offline

Power prep used to be the closest but isn't anymore. I had 166, 167 on both tests but ended up with a 161. Apart from the fact that you may lose your cool and focus in the actual test, the test has evolved from what it used to be in the yore.

Yorex2011, just get the ETS official questions, and practice as much as you can. I know you're smart, but it would be foolhardy not preparing yourself for the worst. You don't want to end up with less than what you bargained for, but still be compelled send your scores to "ivy leagues" because you didn't prepare yourself for the worst possibility. My 2 cents.

In other news...

Guys, imagine a school claiming they can't fund Masters now because of the dwindling oil price! Please if you've got a good profile, and wouldn't mind going for a PhD, please just by all means apply for a direct PhD instead. It would be easier getting into funded programs that way. These schools want some level of commitment, and 'working' for them for 2 years only to go get yourself some fancy job in the end don't often cut it for them.

Ogun it is..... Dem no be mate @all @all... all aspects... ALL!!! No matter what ur plan is. Unfortunately I can't pick ogun (place of origin), schooled in Osun.... so will be hoping for Lagos (cos of my plans and am based here)

I love the "oyo and osun" debate. I schooled in Osun (OAU) and lived in Ibadan briefly. Here's my input, not much difference BTW dem, however, if u choose oyo and get Ibadan, it wld be a nice experience but if u don't get Ibadan, you go hear am. Osun Is cheaper n better electricity generally but not much post-nysc opportunities.
General advise: don't get ur hopes too high about a particular state or nysc itself, think of relevance to your plans (agriculture or professional exams or job hunting) in choosing a state. No state in Nigeria has Anytin perfect to offer. Work with your own plan.

I just spent 4hours going through this entire thread. Amazing! Wish i went through this thread last year, i wouldn't have rushed to take gre. I prepared for just 1month and scored a terrible 277. Do you think any school in Texas will grant my application? going for MA in Public Service and Administration. Honestly, i want to retake the exam, but i am tied up with so many things, plus wify and maternal duties. Looking to apply to the following schools ..Pls guys make una advice a sister.

277 is a lil low, but u can check the sch's website for their GRE requirement, you would also need a good GPA, SOP and recommendation letter. However, if you choice is to re-write. Prepare for about two months, get the magoosh video posted via a dropbox link (can't remember the exact page). It will really help in your preparations. Don't be scared, be determined..."na small tin".... cheers

I had a 5-year program in school. Would the grade over 4 have been the same if I had input the entire stretch of the 5-year grades?

Of cos not.. it depends on ur GPA for those 2 sessions.... if they are higher than ur graduating CGPA, the equivalent will be higher.... it all depends on ur CGPA

Contact the school today!... have a friend didn't see his name on the portal, he discovered his jamb reg no was wrong on the senate list

The arguement is important, Cos even after seeing ur name on NYSC portal, if there's a mistake with your details, You will have to go to your student affairs unit for correction and it will be effected immediately. PPL have to kwn that at this stage the "student affairs unit is the most important".
You will see your name once "your school uploads" to the portal....
And BTW every company/Organization has an ICT unit that manages thr server.
If anybody tells u "he's going to abuja" na format, he doesn't want to be disturbed.

Bro... I won't argue with you... But schools don't have access to NYSC portal... And if schools upload names directly to NYSC portal, I'm sure my Director wouldn't be heading to ABUJA tomorrow to submit names... This names will be uploaded by the ICT unit. If your opinion is so valid, then you're right... But don't go about believing that your school can phish into NYSC web portal....

NYSC have a format in which all CPIs must adopt to use..in order to make it easy for uploading... This format will help all CPIs to vet properly, students with issues... After this internal vetting, names are sent through a soft copy and hardcopy to the NYSC headquarter which will be forwarded to the ICT unit for uploading...

Your school doesn't have access to NYSC portal directly... The ICT managers have the password to manipulate the site as well as site maintenance.

False! All schools have personalised access to the nysc portal. They use d portal to display mobilization list so that PCM can check for error, as oppose the old way of displaying @ thr DSA ( some schools still do this tho) The schools uploads unto the portal demselves and corrections are made by the schools directly on the portal.... Visit the nysc website and you will see Whr schools can login and upload their verified senate list
