As some of you may or may not know this year of 2016 was supposed to be the end of all C.O.T charged on all Bank accounts. Many Business men, entrepreneurs, and working class people were looking forward to withdrawing their OWN money from their OWN account and not have the bank charge them for the 'privilege' to do so. Unfortunately, what we didn't know was that this was another case of P.H.C.N i.e Problem Has Changed Name. Banks no longer charge "C.O.T" but rather charge what they call "Account Maintenance Fee" or AMF as i will call it from now on. This AMF is the same rate as the former COT charged in 2015 i.e 1 per mill or 1/1000 or 0.001. Basically a bank is supposed to charge you 1 Naira for every 1000 Naira you take out from your bank account. This is the theory. Banks though have decided that most Nigerians slept through arithmetic in primary and secondary school and instead charge 1% AMF. Lets do a quick arithmetic check 1% or 1 per cent or 1/100 is equal to 0.01. Basically our banks charge us 1 naira for every 100 naira we take from our bank accounts. This is the practice Lets use a practical example so we can understand it better - You withdraw a total of 60,000 Naira from your account over a given month. The AMF or COT charged by the bank should be 60,000 X 1/1000. This is equal to 60 Naira. What the bank will do in reality will be to charge 60,000 X 1/100. This is equal to 600 Naira, ten times the amount they should have charged. If you're dealing with bigger withdrawals the magnitude of this fraud becomes clearer So lets be clear the AMF is not 1%(0.01) it is 0.1%(0.001). If your bank is charging you 1% it is fraud and you should contact them immediately and write them to refund you. Also the AMF is negotiable, in theory you can negotiate the fee with your bank. Good luck trying tho. |
Thanks!! |
Gboliwe:Oga thank you. So did your number start working on Etisalat immediately? Sorry if I'm making noise, I just want to know the process b4 I get into it. |
Bratking:Yes dats what I meant. Does anyone have any first hand experience or know someone who does. Planning on switching from mtn to Etisalat & need advice |
Lol. No Seriously now.. |
Does anyone know how long it takes to port from one network to another (mtn to Etisalat to be precise) |
toyeade@msn.com. Thanks. |
Do you still have the invite? Been looking to purchase the phone for a long time now. If you do please share. Thanks. richfaxy: |
Waste, like i'm really going to go to a place where it's likely my hand will be cut off for allegedly stealing or worse yet a random event happens in europe and i'm cutlassed down while shopping in 'africa's biggest mall' for apparently being an infidel. lol |
@ Jaguda. Comparing the Calabar carnival to Tinapa is like comparing the running of a nursery school with that of a university. Its completely different and requires different expertise. This article is old anyways any recent news on tinapa? |
You're comparing the calabar carnival with a project such as Tinapa ? |
LOL @ Tpia, so true It's not flogging 50 times, neither is it a shrine, its merely dobale, prostrating. Unless he has a bad back or its against edo religion to prostrate then he clearly didn't love the girl enough. |
udezue:You really should be asking yourself that, not the whole eastern region. |
People should stop arguing with knowall its like arguing with a brickwall, ![]() |
bawomolo:So you opted to learn english and not french and not portugese. You had a choice right? Lol, sure |
SapeleGuy:My guy you wern't serious when you said the abover where you? |
The fine and forcing people to wear igbo attire is unreasonable. But the language stuff makes sense. What's the point of Anambra being an igbo state if people dont speak the very igbo. And for all the talk about non-igbo's shouldnt be forced well that's rubbish. They should speak igbo if their living in an igbo state. No one is saying you can't speak english at school or work just learn the language of the state. |
I can't even say naeto c popularized it. Gidi has been used for Lagos for quite a while. |
Naeto C certainly did not coin Las Gidi. |
tosh_acer:LOL!! Surely you jest. In any event the poor will always be there but we can only have one Eko Atlantic city. This is strictely a private initiative with lagos state government assistance. |
Nice one, I didn't understand the whole crisis until now. Thanks ![]() |
I doubt there's an english equivalent. Its similar to "E ku ijoko" or "O'n moju si mi". |
Don't even know how i even missed this "Is Is Possible To A Lagosian Igbo?" Tiauuuuun GBOSA GBOSA GBOSA. Haba, afrocynic u try for this one. ![]() |
But honestly i dont even get you. You just said you considered yourself a citizen of Lagos and now you say igbo people can't claim lagos. Contradictory is it not? Trust me if you do something great for the people of Lagos you will be claimed as "omo wa". |
Haba Afam when did i say that? But no i'm not from Lagos, at least my fathers half isnt. But i do consider myself a lagosian after all i was born there and feel very at home there. You too can but not if you dont think its important to acknowledge the original inhabitants of Eko. Infact Afam i'm sure u wish we'd all drop dead and die(see how i put words into ur mouth, its not nice is it). Anyways Afam Omo Enugu it does seem u like lagos alot ooh, So fe di Oba abi Governor ni? lol |
lol, its gone from can an igbo person be a lagosian to primordial sentiments. Asha you seem confused. You want an igbo person to be considered a lagosian but you dont think its important to be able to speak yoruba or understand it for that matter. No one is fighting igbo people Asha. Igbo people can be lagosians after all the Murray Bruces and Ibru's are considered Lagos families arent they? And their certainly not yoruba! |
asha 80:I think thats your point. And if it is i'll say true,my church would be a very good example of that. I can count the yoruba families on one hand. But then that must be to the glory of Lagos. What was once an inconsequential place even amongst the Yoruba people is now the chief cornerstone of Nigeria. Eko o ni baje! |
If language is the only way to determine the make up of a city, then the queen of England must have authority over each and every city in Nigeria and beyond |
Asha you dont seem to get my point. So does the point you just made make Abia a less igbo city? And if it does, wat kind of city would Abia then be? |
Surviving? Is it war you're going to fight in Lagos. ![]() So by the same token, i guess if i go to Abia i wont need to speak Igbo afterall Abia's official language is english.Infact Abia isnt an igbo city its an english one. Infact jos seff, that place is a yoruba city. I knw my cousins live in jos and dont speak it at all. All they say is "Haba". |
I truly doubt that, you might not be fluent but you will understand it especially if they(yoruba people) are abusing you. I know the most ajebota children who will pretend not to speak or understand yoruba but God help the house maid or driver who abuses them in yoruba. And multicultarlism means nothing. London is a multicultural city, i can walk the streets of south london and feel at home hearing yoruba and pidgin. It still will not change the fact that it is an english city, not scottish nor irsh nor welsh but english. Same with Lagos, people need to stop this stupid insinuations. Lagos is a Yoruba city! And that is final. |
@ Asha So let me see if i understand you because they can't speak yoruba means lagos isnt yoruba? So what kind of city is Lagos Asha? So i i go to kingston(jamaica) and cant speak patois, kingston must then not be a jamaican city? Or better yet if i live in Hong Kong and only speak in English, then hong kong isnt in China or a chinese city? Is that your point Asha? |
