Most people know how dangerous consumption of soda is to their health but still take it anyway. Even when they try to stop , they don't just succeed in their attempt to do that. It's simply because of the craving associated with it that can't just be stopped by mere willpower. To explain how the craving occurs: The human brain has a part known as reward system which is responsible for compensating people when they perform a particular action to promote their survival. An example of such action is eating or drinking. When food is taken, a feel-good chemical known as dopamine is released and same is interpreted by the brain as pleasure. So, in order to get more pleasure,the brain keep seeking for actions that stimulate this feel-good chemo chemical release like eating or drinking a particular food/drink. Soda and other high sugar foods provide a much greater dopamine release than whole foods, which is responsible for the craving associated with them. This can lead to a vicious cycle in which the brain seeks more and more high sugar foods to get the same pleasure response . This is more like a programmed response from the body system. A soda free life is a healthy life! Make each day a soda free day and a water full day! Water is life, go for it! "No Soda Challenge 2022" is still on, Join now, to stop those soda cravings. @hardquy Exactly! Unfortunately those sweet things end up giving them bitter health experiences. It has not been really easy with those participating in this "No Soda Challenge" but they are determined to stop anyway. I am happy they are complying against all odds. |
@ originalsy It's so unfortunate that people tend to take glory in things that are dangerous to them either directly or indirectly. I only hope they get to know the truth before it's too late. |

@ihart Soda contains of more fructose than glucose which is poses more danger to the health of people. And note that the human body isn't designed to process this form of sugar(fructose) at such high levels. Unlike glucose, which serves as fuel for the body, fructose is processed almost entirely in the liver where it is converted to fat," So, imagine taking 2 cans or more of Soda per day, it's like putting much stress on the liver. |
There is no nutritional value in taking soda. Guess what ? “Just one can of cola contains over 9 teaspoons of sugar — that’s 1½ times more than the American Heart Association recommends a woman have in an entire day.” And you think you don't need to run away from it to preserve your health and stay healthy? Water on the other hand has a lot of benefits yet people don't seem to appreciate its intake as expected. Why then do people invest in what has neither health nor nutritional benefits? I have heard some people say they don't just like taking fruits and I do wonder within me what could be the cause. I got to know that some only came up with that mindset because of the assumption that fruits are expensive and they can't afford them. Y'all will agree with me that it's dangerous to live or act based on assumptions. It's a mere assumption to think fruits are so expensive that you won't be able to afford it thereby depriving yourselves of numerous healthy benefits in those fruits. Some fruits are seasonal and all you need to do is to take advantage of their seasons as they are often sold at ridiculously cheap prices. Some of the fruits in season now are: African Cherry ( commonly referred to as "Agbalumo" in Yoruba Orange Carrot Cucumber You can get oranges for as low as #50/2 Take advantage of the fruits in season as they are just affordable and stop depriving yourselves of its Health benefit based on mere assumption. Go for what you can afford, you don't have to break the bank before you get good fruits. You may not be able to afford an apple(#150/1) now but at least you can still afford orange(#50/2). Health is wealth! Your fruit health is important! |

It's Day one of "No Soda Challenge" and I must let you know that the participants are not finding it easy at all. It's a difficult decision to make by some of them as they are used to taking at least two cans/bottles of Soda per day. @Horladipupo Soda drinks are also known as soft drinks..Most carbonated drinks fall into this category..I don't want to mention any specific brand to avoid crossing boundaries. Feel free to join the challenge to know what it entails. |

In 2020, an estimated 604 000 women were diagnosed with cervical cancer globally and about 342 000 women died from the disease. What are the risk factors for Cervical Cancer? The following categories of women have high risk for Cervical Cancer: Age...over 30 with untreated Human Papillomavirus Infection. Early exposure to sex at an early age Prolonged use of birth control pills Multiple Sex partners No regular cervical screening Overweight/obesity Weakened Immune system Presence of Female relatives with history of Cervical Cancer History of smoking What are the symptoms? Bleeding or pain during or after sex Blood spots or light bleeding at times other than a normal period Increased or unusual discharge from the vagina Menstrual bleeding that lasts longer and is heavier than usual Bleeding after menopause Though the above symptoms might not be notices until the late stage . Is cervical cancer preventable? Yes it is highly preventable with screening test for early detection and vaccination to prevent HPV infection. What are the available screening test? The two major ones are: The Pap Test( Pap Smear ): It helps to detect pre cancerous cells i.e cell changes in the cervix that have tendency to cause cervical cancer if not treated as expected. The HPV Test: detects virus (HPV) that can cause these unusual cell changes. Are there available treatments for cervical cancer? Yes , there are but it depends on the stage of cancer and associated medical conditions.
