Politics › Re: ‘Nigeria Has Gotten A Lot Better,’ - South African Entrepreneur by omenka(m): 5:36pm On Feb 19, 2013
ROSSIKE: There's no dispute over Nigeria's existence.

If you're referring to the improvements attested to by the South African businessman, yes of course it's always important to get neutral opinion on the progress our country is making, since indigenous opinion is often suspected of being tainted by overt nationalism or pessimism as the case may be.
What are you talking about? Who better to give a diagnosis of a country's welfare than the countrymen themselves? This is my problem with us. This is the reason why I felt disgusted and insulted when, in trying to present his score card to Nigerians, and portray himself as the best thing that has eva hapened to us as a nation, GEJ said Obama attested to his admin's giant strides.
I can stand firm anywhere and say I know more about how Nigeria fares then any foriegner out there, and defend that effortlesly.

PointB: Those who know Nigeria politics will understand that a MUSLIM/MUSLIM presidential ticket will NEVER sail in this dispensation. It will be seen CORRECTLY as a veiled attempt to undermine the christian population. It will definitely be an effort in futility.
This day you sound like an ignorant kid. Go back to your history class and do yourself some favour.
But before you do that, let me give you some headstart. Look up 1993 presidential elections which is widely adjudged as the free-est and fairest election we've eva had in this country.

Politics › Re: Democracy: What Is Your Most Important Dividend(s) Of Democracy? by omenka(m): 10:47am On Feb 17, 2013
Sincere 9gerian: Just to remind those who suffer from selective amnesia or who feign ignorance, that before our electoral system was cleaned up in 2011/10, the demand for free and fair elections was TOPMOST on the lips of every Nigerian. The media, civil society groups, opposition political parties, international communities, citizens, etc were all unanimous in the demand for free and fair elections so much so that the notorious problem of epileptic power supply was relegated to a distant second in terms of priority of problems that needed to be fixed urgently.

Thank goodness, that problem of fraudulent elections have been fixed by one man, Goodluck Jonathan.

One would have expected the gains of free and fair elections in all INEC conducted elections to have trickled down to the local council polls by now but unfortunately, selfish and myopic governors are still resisting change. The governors, across board, have continued with brazen and shameless rigging of local council polls in their respective states. One of the most recent was the brazen and shameless rigging of the 2011 Lagos local council polls, supervised by the 'progressive' duo of Tinubu and Fashola. The result of that election was not released until 72hrs after voting had ended allowing ample time for figure manipulation (compare with INEC election results that are released within 24hrs). Three of those elections had since been nullified by the tribunal (although 2 were later reinstated due to technicalities of court process). When next the duo of Tinubu and Fashola (and indeed all governors notorious for rigging local council polls) tell us they'r "progressives", we should ask them if rigging of elections is one of the characteristics of progressive politicians
You make me feel like throwing up.

Politics › Re: Buhari, Tinubu Drop Presidential Ambition by omenka(m): 1:00pm On Feb 16, 2013
free2ryhme: It makes no difference wether Malam Tinubu or Boko Haram Commandant, Mr. Buhari drop their ambition to contest the presidency under APC or Armoured Personnel Carrier. The fact remains that Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) is a moslem islamist party. If you doubt me check out the big wigs of the party: Shetima Kashim, Abdul Aziz, Religious bigot El-Rufai, Boko Haram General Buhari, Ibrahim Gaidan, Tinubu, Boko haram wannabe, Aregbesola, Gov. Yari (Zamfara), Yerima, Umar Tanko, Alhaji Fashola (I never knew he was a moslem), Gov. Amosun, etc. These are all moslems who want to turn Nigeria into islamic country.
Most idiotic post i'd eva seen on this forum. Even more alarming is that it pulled 8likes! What has your curent president, who has no ambition of islamizing the country, achieved for the country besides increased insecurity and wastage of $68b? What pathetic thing.

Dee60: The boys deserve plenty of awards. But I think it should be commensurate with the achievement. The way GCON and CON are issued out these days, GEJ has made it virtually worthless.
God bless u! This is exactly my sentiment. Much as I relish our victorious outing, and unreservedly congratulate the Eagles for bringing the trophy home, I take very strong exception to the president dolling out national honours like he's sharing groundnuts? This man has succeded in bastardizing every single symbol of honour this country has. Even though some of his predisessors might have done dsame, jonathen seems to be a trail blazer in this regard, giving it out to confirmed crooks in the NASS and some 'movie stars'! The national honours is now as worthless as the 'peace ambasadorship' every musa, obinna, and bola can purchase as long as they have money.
A better idea in my opinion wouldave been to erect a monument in their honour. A symbol that younger ones can see and aspire to having one of theirs put up some day in future. Such monuments would even help give some kind of aesthetic apeal to the city of Abuja. The more the statues or monuments, the better.
Why the hell does he think in order to motivate a people to victory you must give them money, plenty of it. This is one aspect of our lives in this country that we must try to put an end to. It doesn't have to be about money all the time. Honour and glory too do matter. Besides, weren't they being paid their wages for every match they palyed? Or has winning the cup become a favour to us?
It is high time we started being prudent in the choices and decisions we make in this country.
Enough of all these childishness.
Politics › Re: Jonathan Doles Out Cash, Lands, And National Honours On Super Eagles by omenka(op): 7:07am On Feb 13, 2013
Much as I relish the victory of our boys, in my opinion, the president has yet again spoiled the broth by adding too much salt! Hell, is the national honours part necessary?? Does this man realy have a brain upstairs?? Haba! Has he ever heard abt the word 'modesty'? In place of the awards, wouldn't erecting a monument, in some strategic spot in Abuja in their honour, been more apropriate??
I find it hard to imagin what he would do should they bring the world cup home tomao.
Politics › Jonathan Doles Out Cash, Lands, And National Honours On Super Eagles by omenka(op): 6:56am On Feb 13, 2013
The Federal Government on Tuesday night opened
the cash tap and doled out money in torrents to the
victorious Super Eagles team to the just concluded
African Cup of Nations championship in South Africa.

A largely underrated Super Eagles had on Sunday
night defeated Burkina Faso by a lone goal to
become the African Champions for the third time.
Each member of the team received the sum of N5
million from the Federal Government, in addition to
national honour and choice land in the nation’s
capital. While Captain Joseph Yobo of Feneberche FC received national honour of Officer of the Order of Niger (OON), other members of the team received Member of the Order of the Niger (MON).
The Coach of the team, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi,
received the sum of N10 million, a piece of land and
national honours of Commander of the Order of the
Niger (CON). Assistant Coaches of the Super Eagles, Daniel Amokachi, Ike Shorunmu and two others went home with N5 million each, choice lands and national honours of Officer of the Order of Niger (OON).

Earlier, multibillionaires, Mike Adenuga and Aliko
Dangote had given $1 million and N130 million
respectively to players and officials of the team.
The government and the businessmen did not
remember to reward members of the Nigerian
Football Supporters Club who cheered the team to
victory.

Members of the national team along with their
technical crew and officials of the Nigerian Football
Federation had arrived the Nnamdi Azikiwe
International Airport, Abuja, at 3:15 p.m. to a
tumultuous crowd of jubilant supporters and
residents of the nation’s capital.

Meanwhile, the Honourable Minister of State for the
Federal Capital Territory, Olajumoke Akinjide,
has commended the national team for making the
nation proud at Africa’s biggest football fiesta.
Ms Akinjide said she was especially elated that the
senior national team was led to victory by a Nigerian coach, Stephen Keshi and also assisted by Assistant Coach, Daniel Amokachi, a Nigerian.
She noted that the team, captained by Mr. Yobo,
displayed a high level of commitment, dedication
and patriotism.

According to the minister, the team’s victory at
AFCON 2013 has restored the nation’s pride and
positioned the country in its rightful place as “Giant
of Africa in the area of football.”

“The AFCON’s triumph, which is coming after 19
years, is an indication of a better future for the
country. We need to remain focus, discipline and
determine. Nigeria is surely getting better in the
areas sports and the economy.
“I express my heartfelt congratulation to the coach
and our spectacular Super Eagles, for making Nigeria proud. I enjoin all Nigerians to learn from the strong determination, the will to succeed and patriotic zeal that brought victory to the team and the Nation,” said Akinjide, who oversees the FCT Department of Sports in the Social Development Secretariat.

The minister urged the team not to rest on its oars
but to strive and work towards achieving a similar
feat at the forthcoming FIFA Confederation Cup
and FIFA World Cup in Brazil in 2014.

Now, thesame party tries to justify squandering such a gangantuan amount of money to secure the residence of the vice president when alot of kids under 10 yrs are out there in the streets hawking bitter kola and groundnuts just to make sure their families don't sleep on empty stomachs! Indeed. I remember how we celebrated on Nairaland after seeing the pictures of Mali bound Nigerian troops.
What we read now only confirms what the US state department once said, that Naija troops can only but man check points. This is realy heartbreaking.
We seem have a knack for bungling every opurtunity to shore up our reliability in the eyes of the international community.
God bless Nigeria.
