Hey dear

I think you need to follow me or so as per the pms and

No i didn't go with any admission letter. Went with a letter the hospital scanned to me. I don't know anything about ur hospital dear. All needed and requested for form A are:

1. Reference letter from Naija introducing you briefly, I shared a template here, u can go thru my posts

2. Letter from the hospital/invoice signed and addressed to u

3. Visa page

4. Ticket

5. Passport/Data page.

I intend using Oakbend and I took their Ob package form, scanned letter as registered and above listed docs.

Should u require further assistance, do get in touch.

All the best.

Hello everyone..

I want to use this opportunity to thank everyone on this thread.

Particularly @Firsttymum @Favoredgal @ladyguinivere @Omodadi @nobody @Vamum @evemama @kemmytinio @happytbaby @vcole @twingirls .You guys have been tremendously helpful. My wife and her mom attended their visa interviews together yesterday at the Lagos embassy and were successful.

(The queue at the embassy was extremely long....seems everyone wants to leave the country...we were there at 7.30 am even though their time wasn't till 9am so we had to wait for a while) (their entire interview was for about 4 mins...VO spent a lot of time typing)

In the spirit of giving back, here's the transcript below:

DW: pointing to mom and saying "we are together "
VO: how are you related?
DW: she is my mom
VO: please pass your passports.... (while receiving the passports) how old are you (VO asked DW)
DW: xx years
VO: Where in the US would you be travelling to?
DW: Houston, Texas
VO: what is the purpose of your travelling?
DW: to have my baby and vacation
VO: (to mum) ma'am what do you do?
MUM: I am into trading..(states what she trades in)
VO: (to DW) where do you work?
DW: I work at xxxxx
VO: How much are you budgeting for the trip?
DW: Between 12k to 15k USD depending on whether it is VD or CS
VO: have you made any deposits?
DW: No we haven't. Doctor said there is no need to until we arrive for our appointment
VO: how do you intend paying for your bills?
DW: my mom and I intend to source for PTA, would use Form A where we can and then source the rest from the parallel market if need be
VO: have you travelled outside Nigeria before?
DW: Tanzania for honeymoon with hubby last year and neighbouring rep of Benin and Ghana.
VO: (Types...................types....) okay, at this point your visa has been approved.

Issues the almighty white paper and circles the address for pick up....gives advice on how we need to get enough funds to prove at the US border that we can sufficiently pay the bills........etc etc.....advises that we also keep all receipt of payments well.... (at that point DW mind don dey board plane and was dancing around in her head)

VO: so you both have a good day and they replied with all gladness

P.S - The particular VO that interviewed them got annoyed and was screaming at a lady before they called them to the VO's cubicle. But we thank the Lord that he touched her heart.

Congratulations to your family, ur American baby dream coming true.......

Please houston mamas, where is the best and affordable place to buy baby items

It depends on what you are buying, for car seat, travel systems, carrier etc, bullington has the best price wt d little I have waka.
For quality baby cloths, check carters.
Other shops sell cloths too, cheaper than caters, but mixed products so u can then shop round and pick good ones.

Please oooooooo, anyone have any idea where I can buy good compression socks in Lagos? Ordered from Amazon through my Aunt, but the socks refused to follow her to Naija o.
My legs and ankles swell up to the size of baby pigs in a sack, don't know if I'd cope without the compression.

Got it at bernardos pharmacy, opp LUTH main gate at 5500.

@evemama, your mum needs not a cover letter from you. Let her just go with copies of the documents you went with during yours and your visa page. She should be fine.

You could buy money order at the post office, you can also use ur card to pay as long as the surname on the card is same with the applicant's surname. I found the money order option easier though.

Thanks so much.
I later got info on their site concerning this; let me put here for ppl dt might need same.money order, cards, cheques, etc can be used. Even cash is acceptable but must be the exact money and nothing more or less ( mu change e dani o, in the voice of a lagos conductor)

I have noticed that local flights don't take off from JFK in New York. Flights can either be gotten from Laguadia or Newark. If that's the case, how do I shuttle arriving in JFK and catching a flight to Houston?

I am also trying to use wakanow to book one way from Lagos to JFK and one way return from Houston to Lagos. Do you envisage any challenges with at the Point of Entry when I present tickets from 2 different airlines and 2 different locations?

There are local flights from JFK, check well dear.

@Ify4charm, the consultant you mentioned should have helped you out with back massage to activate the secretion of the breast milk hormone prolactin. You can demand for that if someone is there with you.
Moreso, place the baby at the closest distance to the breast( taking baby to breast and not breast to baby) while ensuring that your areola is completely covered with baby's mouth. Your dietary intake is also an important determinant of breast milk secretion.
These has worked for new mums and I hope it also work for you. Cheers and God bless your LO.

Every line was funny to me. Bigfido is a clown but everything is true. Me o, I jejely learn the bus routes in every American town I go and mostly stay within 2minutes walk of a bus stop. 4dollar bus pass for 24hrs isnt bad at all.
I don't know how Houston be sha. Even for hospital appointments I can take buses/train. When I am in labour or in a hurry, i will take a cab. I also take cabs when i do a lot of grocery shopping.

When shopping for baby gear the last time, i would go into shops and look at what i wanted then go home , rrad reviews on Amazom and order. It saves me the stress of carrying bulky luggage without a car. Emi iyawo Ijebu funra mi!

So I also read about renting a car. Here's my advise to you people.

1) if you know you didn't go to a proper driving school here, please don't attempt to rent a car. You might end up presenting driving tickets and receipt of payment as your hospital receipt when you want to renew your visa.

2) do you know road signs very well? The ones written on the floor? If you don't, buy slate for kewu, and start practising it. Just be reciting it like you are learning kewu in Ile kewu.

3) Google maps.. Please learn how to use GPS very well and if you don't have Eztag please always avoid tolls. If you enter one and you see purple light, no, it's not disco light, it's gbese waiting for you in the mail box

4) speed limit in school areas... It's very important to adhere to it. If you see a school bus park and you see the brake light blinking, please just stop behind the bus.. If the bus doesn't move, don't move or overtake it o. If its there for 1hr, just open nairaland to keep yourself entertained

5) Yield. You need to learn this one very well, or else, accident. And insurance is not sere sere

6) make sure you get a proper insurance. It is better than to stammer incase anything happens.

Good luck people

HMMM..THEse questions about car rentals and driving in the usa is beginning to frighten me.
Pls while I may say that driving in the usa is easier than driving in naija...........it comes with its own special wahala.....
1. road signs/ speed limits/ traffic lights/going really slow on the speed lane etc......all are punishable offences in the usa, while in naija...its really not taken serious..

in naija I see some people really going quite slow, saying doing 35mph in the speed lane on the expressway...n when u r behind them...they refuse to either increase speed or go to the other lane....try this in the usa and u will be booked, a cop doesn't need to be there, the aggrieved party can simply inform the highway cops..

2ndly traffic offences come with a minimum 250 dollar ticket, and in some cases an entry might be made against your passport/visa..........

so I would advice all newbies to try driving under the supervision of an old hand for a few days b4 going out on your own.
then if you don't know/hvnt operated a maps app on ur phone b4..or a gps based navigation map...............then driving in usa would b a lot lot more difficult.........I would advice you simply do uber

Thanks hun! I apreciate, we just dey find cheaper ways u know

A rented car that comes with a driver = Cab/Taxi.

A warning to those renting cars, please make sure you familiarize yourself with the US driving rules. Stop signs, right of way rule at a 4way junction etc. Americans do not do defensive driving so if you try to drive the naija way you would hit someone. Running a red light or stop sign can cost you up to 250dollars.

Pls how did you get that car with driver?
