Thank you for your prompt response, yes it falls into STEM category, Masters in Chemical engineering to be precise . After this STEM will one qualify for three years post study work permit?
You get one year OPT which you can extend with another 2yrs if you get a job directly in your field of study.

Hello American mums and mum's to be, my mind is always with you all especially those preparing to travel as the dollar increases. Each time I check aboki fx , I just thank God that I'm back. May God in his infinite mercy enlarge ur cost and make this journey easy, we will never regret embarking on it, and may we always find hapiness in our children that we do all for at our own expense. Amen. Shout out to firsttymum, LadyGuinivere, biola, sowbabe, ella, morufat etc.
Back to my silent mode as my leave ends in a bit.

Good evening everyone. I commend all whi have contributed to this thread. I have being reading for a while and even checking schools especially at their mention here. I will like to seek clarification on some issues as I see there are plenty experienced people here ;
1. I have discovered that a masters isn't a prerequisite for phd some schools according to what I read on their sites.is this applicable to whoever qualifies for masters with his/her cgpa?
2. In a situation where one has actually completed a masters in nigeria, does the 1st degree cgpa still counts? In case the cgpa isn't up to 3.0 of the 4.0 us scale.
Tnx in anticipation of your responses.

Hello house, omodaddi is back after a long nairaland holiday, though I have being reading the threed but cldnt write anything due to issue with my email that I just resolved. But I wonder why nobody even remember to ask after me.
Anyways, I have a long epistle and will download here for others to learn something...
I travelled in April, used Dr E/Oakbend. Had my cute baby in May @41 weeks plus, normal delivery. After baby came out, Satan wanted to show up, but proved himself to be the most high. There was this blood flow dt refused to stop to the extent that doctor was losing hope and saying I would have to be taken to the theatre so as to check my uterus for any abnormality, 18 tablets of cytotech, another injection just to stop this blood bt nah. Suddenly my bp dropped from 140 to 80, bt it was taken care of imediatly and after packing a full nylon of blood, here came relief. There was planning for blood transfusion with the option of an iron shots depending on my blood level the next day, bt thank God the later was applicable as God shown himself. Lesson; Take your heamatinics/prenatals as prescribed, it helped me.
Fast forward to discharge day, peadiatrician came, checked baby and said she had to go tru one Echo test, else we were not leaving the hospital.....This was to confirm she wouldn't suffer from heart hole as she cld hear some sound there. Come and see fear plus d fact that we din't want to stay extra day because d person to do the test wasn't around. Anyways, Echo was done o and our baby very okay to go home.
It has not ended o; we went for peadiatrician visit, baby was fine, her blood sample taken for some repeat test. About a week later, peadiatrician called us that she was called from the state to tell us to go right away to texas children hospital as an abnormality was detected from her test results depicting some metabolism disorder so another confirmatory test needed to be done imediatly. Na so we carry ourselves go there, not knowing that's wat they call emergency o. They only took blood and urine samples and we left. Though we asked for our bill and they said it wasn't ready, we saw bill after a week and guess wat we saw: over 1k usd for hospital and about 200usd for doctor. We look each oda face, we nor fit cry. As the outspoken lady that I am, I started calling them to tell them we cnt pay that much, that our baby wasn't sick bla bla bla, they then said it was d emergency thing that really brought up our bill. I actually stood my ground to the extent that a panel was set on our case, bt at d end, na same same o. That it's a norm in texas dt such cases are emergency and must be taken care of imediatly dt we were only making mouth because our baby was fine.....we sha accepted fate later by asking ourselves the big question ' what if..............'
We are back home and enjoying our new life with our bundle of joy....glory be to God.
I won't end my epistle without thanking my people here o: firsttymum ( God bless u real good and wish u d best in ur Dec journey), LadyGuinivere, Justwise, sowbabe ( my padi of trexking), biolar ( atawewe mi of laiv), mumsie Dabira (dnt know ur moniker), my Ella ( I know u are here too), every other person I din't mention bt have heard one encounter or the other with, may God bless you all for being part of my dream come true (my American baby) I see you all!

My people....

Was actually waiting for my mum's interview today before sharing both her interview experience and my POE rundown .

Myself, hubby, son and long belle left Lagos at 35weeks+! Via Lagos-Frankfurt-Newark-Houston. Was asked for fit to fly .Had very good seat, nice leg space and empty seats behind me, so I had a row to myself, Hostesses were really nice n friendly and really made me comfortable.
I also requested for wheel chair (it made all the difference in the world). Thanks to @evemama for the heads up. Which kain 33mins waka be that.
For my burden of proof i had: $8,100 cash, receipt of payment made to the hospital ,Doctor's appointment letter, estimated budget sheet, return ticket, Letter of Introduction from my employer and Maternity leave document from my office portal.
I was wheeled to the CBP , stood up for proper interview and this is my transcript. (He actually saw my lady finger belle and pretended not to) undecided

CBP: You guys are here for vacation?
Hubby and I: No, To have our Baby
CBP: You said vacation?
Me: No, I said to have our baby
CBP: Oh I didn't notice
CBP: How long are you here for?
Me: 7weeks
CBP: You gat some paperwork?
Me: Yes, hands him my medical recs,
CBP: Is this all u've gat?
Hubby quickly whispered receipt n all
Me: Oh I'm sorry.
CBP: Stamps hubby and son in.

(He kept typing and typing and then he says I need to go for secondary inspection to verify my documents)
Me: No problem ( was actually prepared for dis) for my mind...I was like no shaking grin

At secondary inspection, we sat for about 15mins and I was called.
Here's the drama:
Strolled to the CBP lady that called me.
CBP: hi ma'am
Me: Hello
CBP: here are ur docs/passport, hand them over to the security outside the door. Thank you.
Me: lobatan o! I no read dis one for the thread o. Which kain one be dis? I refused to leave her sight. She was already typing on her system. huh
Me: Excuse me, I was sent here for secondary inspection
CBP: And I've done just that.
Me: (made like 2 steps from there while trying to give hubby d I'm confused/trouble sign). I was whispering to myself...No freaking way mehn....atawewe don make am dis far, fret not Biola. So I went back to her. cry undecided
Me: Sorry Ma'am, I mean ...I was sent here for secondary inspection and u just handed my docs back to me.
CBP: (smiling and in a very polite manner) Ma'am, I have done that...seen ur receipts and all, verified and u r good to go.
Me: (Smiling back) Oh thanks.

So off to agric, I brought in all sorts dried ponmo, frozen palm oil in Sprite plastic bottle, grinded and ungrinded crayfish, prawns, snacks for my son and his drinks, diff types of dried fish, stock fish, grounded melon seed, packs of knorr chicken, set of curry, thyme and pepper, grinded pepper, yams, dried locust beans, oloyin beans, olootu beans,garri,semo..can't rem all sef.

My yams were seized and e pain me die even as I bury dem reach among my clothes.
Immediately when asked if we had yams, my hubby no even allow dem land before he said Yes emphatically.
I was even trying to use my belle to blackmail dem, with cravings and all but dem no yield.

Wheel chairs are advisable if u r transiting thru Frankfurt o. Also think direct flights are better for preggies cos d stopping and entering got to me at the end. But don't blame me I was trying to avoid houston wahala!

Testimony No 2:
My Mum got her visa this morning in Lagos, she went with her burden of proofs but was not checked. As advised by Happytbaby, she requested for interpreter and the VO asked her if she cud try and she said yes.
Was asked Just 2 questions ( where are u going and why). She replied and White paper given to her and Vo is typing, my mama refused to go o, the security guy came and explained to her and she said she wants her passport that how cum dey collected passport from her and gave her just half a paper.
The guy had to explain the whole process to her again.

I'm grateful to all esp my rose model ladyguinivere, Happytbaby, firsttymum, chloe7, evemama, modath,Omodadi2,theleakytribe, Feddy27, bisoye82 and everybody.

May all our journeys be fruitful and smooth and May the good lord crown all our efforts positively.
Tot u won't mention my name ni......tnx for the loads dear!!! God punish the yam seizers.

Maybe you should just give some time before you apply then...but there's no way your reasons won't be different now when you want to be truthful. I think you should just go ahead and pray hard.

Hello house, great work you all are doing here I must say. Please I have an issue that requires a quick intervention. So I was given a b1 1 month visa (annotation) 2014, got to the Poe and I was stamped in for 6 months as against the 2weeks I initially put in my application to stay (went for an event) since I was pregnant as at then & was stamped in for 6 months I decided to stay back and have the baby there after the event, paid all my bills in full got my zero balance to show. Got back to Nig, waited for a year and now reapplied last week hoping to renew my visa b1/b2 visit visa. Getting to the interview the VO asked couple of questions which to the best of my knowledge I answered truthfully (no current pregnancy related question, although I am currently pregnant) after the interview I was denied 214b. Now I urgently want to reapply because I want to birth my second baby there. How do I go about it please? Also my child has been really sick, sheduled an appointment with his pediatrician successfully. Should I just reapply saying I am taking him for medical reason or just apply saying I want to birth my baby? I don't want to be denied again please and also don't want to appear so desperate. Thank you house. Quick response please because I am currently 30weeks gone (with a small bump tho) grin
By reading this your story, it's obvious that you want to lie again just like the first time when you were given an a notated visa. What has bin preached here is honesty, so the advice you would probably get will be to go in a clean way. Birthing in the us is not a crime once you can afford it, so just try and get some backing documents to confirm what you are going to do and also that you can afford it. Best of luck!

Congratulations for being here cos here you are going to get every info you need. Do as adviced above and you'll be glad. I was like you when I was refered here, and presently in the US for same. It is my turn to share my testimony.

My LO was born yesterday 11th May 2016. Some of you would recall how my Dollars were stolen by my help before my trip. I was well prepared to follow it up and post everywhere about it but after my first doctors appointment here, the stolen money was irrelevant to me.

The doctor did a scan and said she found spots on my LO's heart that were indicative of either a hole in the heart or downs syndrome. I began to pray and believe God even though I was very shaken by the news.

Long story short, she arrived yesterday and is completely fine. She followed me straight from the OR to the postpartum recovery room. Join me praise the Lord. I'm one happy mumma.
Congratulations. .... Wat a good news.

Guess I've rested enough. Here's my story. About 10 days before my travel date, swelling on my legs which had always been minimal increased so much. Even after raising the legs up at night, the moment my feet touches ground in the morning the swelling returns. 3 days before my travel, I used the home bp monitor to check my bp and it was ranging btw 140/80 and 145/85. I immediately drove to hospital. Nurse on duty checked with the manual bp monitor and another young dr checked and it was still high. They had to call my consultant. He ordered they check my urine for protein and nothing came up...he eventually came himself, checked the bp and said it was normal.

3 days later I travelled with Lufthansa on a united ticket at 34 weeks + some days. Requested for wheelchair and they said since I brought fit to fly I can't use wheel chair. I was shocked cos several pple here have used wheelchair. They agreed to book for my mum cos of her arthritis yet we didn't see any wheelchair neither at Frankfurt nor LAX. We flew to Frankfurt and had a 4 hrs layover b4 we flew to LAX. All the while, my mum was so worried about the swelling.

POE was a breeze.
Cbp: what are you here for?
Me: childbirth
Cbp: ok. How long are u here for?
Me: 2 months
Cbp: sorry, what did u say u are here for again?
Me: childbirth, delivery, to have my baby (lol...that's d type of confidence saying the truth at the embassy gives u)
Took our finger prints and stamps us in for 6 months.

We went to agriculture...the officer was busy shouting to the guy scanning the bags...Nigeria, Nigeria, lol...our bags were scanned but we weren't asked to open it.

When we got to my aunty's house...the legs had tripled in size and she insisted I see the dr immediately ( my appt wasn't till another 4 days). We called his office and luckily he was still around...said they close at 5pm. It was already 4pm...so without eating or anything...they drove us to the dr office. My relations went in to greet him (they had known him for a long time) I had no idea, while I filled out the forms. When I saw the dr, my bp had shot up to 159/100. He told me point blank to head straight to the hospital as I had developed pre-eclampsia and baby had to be induced immediately. He said the financial dept would have closed for the day and they don't open weekends...so we had only the next day to pay and sign the contract...cos if I deliver without signing it...I would be left with a bill of over $40k. Got to the hospital and was admitted. Was placed on magnesium IV to prevent seizure...while they ran tests...the same ones I would have done with the doctor's office.

Next day my mum sorted the bills...while they brought the papers for me to fill...despite the induction starting Thursday night...i didn't deliver till almost mid day Saturday...cervix no gree dilate till...was almost heading to OR for c-section b4 LO came forth...I hadn't eaten in almost 48 hrs...day said no food, no water...was just allowed to chew ice...where the strength to push came from...I don't know.

The main testimony is that LO didn't need to go to NICU...was almost peeing in my pant when the thought of it came to my mind...cos of bills...she was just in the nursery...they did hearing test...checked for jaundice...was later discharged. LO is 3 weeks old currently.

Used st Francis medical center and dr. Mb---u. Hospital bill $2700 for vag. Delivery (includes paediatrician, epidural (the thing wore off towards the actual delivery). Stayed an extra day which cost $900 (covers both me and baby). Hospital gives free stroller. I've gotten zero balance.

Dr fees had always been 1500 and 2500 for vag and csection respectively. When I got here...saw it was now 1000 and 1300...was told the dr considered the current economic situation in Nigeria and decided to slash his self-pay fees. Hmmm...Angels still dey dis earth Shaa.

Since baby came early, wanted to shift my date but United wants an arm and a leg just to change date...I'm chilling (mum is here with me, hubby is coming, wonderful host...no need to run home)
Thanking Gid on your behalf, congratulations!
