Anything can happen in Santiago bernabeau. One thing is certain, this is not the Arsenal that fell 5-0 to Barca or 8-2 to Bayern. To score 4 unreplied goals against them this season go hard gannn. I'm so proud of my Gunners tonight! Guns blazing!!! Your boys saved us from noise this night. |

The US is relying on China for medicines. The madness has to stop. Do you consider those that might lose their jobs, particularly in low-skill positions? Or we can just consider them a worthy sacrifice. |

cococandy: This didn’t address the cost of buying from America. Even at minimum wage (which a lot of people already don’t want to work for), the cost of paying American workers eclipses the cost of paying workers in other countries.
What’s your proposal on how these countries can make purchasing from us affordable for them at the rate they pay their workers? Someone brought this question up on a twitter space two years ago. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: American Politics Thread: Trump Is The 47th President! by Omofaye99: 8:59pm On Apr 08, 2025 |
basilico: One of the biggest factors is unions and democrat policies especially on minimum wages. Don't know whether it passed ,gig workers were also on democrat radar in terns of wages and benefits .⁰ You are right that this is one of the problems. While their move looks good, it also affect the economy as many companies struggle to absorb higher labor costs, leading them to cut back on employees or even relocate operations. |

basilico: The American economy did not take off when MBAs took over and sent manufacturing abroad. They get very good returns for their business acumen. Only problem. You are sending jobs to IP thieves, who have a different agenda than yours.Yours may be to uplift their economy ,theirs is dethrone you as the world's superpower by hook or crook. "Mother China first, Remember you are in diaspora, Nice family you left in China ,sad if anything happened to them" Companies didn't venture abroad to uplift other economies, their primary motivation was profit. This is FACT. Though we can't denie that some local economies benefited, but the decisions to move manufacturing overseas were primarily driven by American firms seeking lower labor costs and higher profit margins. But this is not without cost as this approach often overlooked the long-term consequences for domestic jobs and national security. And you and I know that companies can operate in China or Vietnam in ways that are not possible in the US due to stricter labor protections and regulations. |

Totalrecovery: Our security challenges are multifaceted cutting across cultural and religious lines unlike other countries as you rightly mentioned above and that alone is enough to mar any effort towards addressing the issues. My opinion!!! I completely agree that Nigeria's security challenges are deeply intertwined with its diverse cultural and religious landscapes, making them more complex than in many other countries. Its really a hard one. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: American Politics Thread: Trump Is The 47th President! by Omofaye99: 2:38pm On Apr 08, 2025 |
raumdeuter: Another option is making imported goods as expensive as locally manufactured goods. Which is what every country does to American goods, they make sure its more expensive than their local goods. To encourage local production and more importantly provide jobs to people locally
Business people if they can will use completely cheap foreign staff that includes me because your motives are to make the most profits
As seen during covid, its a national security risk to put all your manufacturing on China. Every day to day item that we use in America could not ship down due to supply chain issues. You are literally betting your entire economy on continued goodwill with China. You have become Chinas bitchh
If there is a war today and China suspends all importation to US what then happens While the point you made seems valid. I believe Trump's aggressive approach is misguided and ultimately harms consumers. Americans way of life is different from other countries, the hurt is way worst compare to say Nigeria if we compare socioeconomic context of both. Instead, why not consider a quota tariff on imported goods? This would protect domestic production without leading to a broad price increase that resembles a trade war. It’s a more balanced way to support local industries while keeping options affordable for consumers. My Opinion. |

bemeruca: His concerns are always on the side of our adversaries.
But what is the important point he made?
The last time the US was minding its business and not Waring got us hit hard at Pearl Harbour. Wait for the enemies to be stronger with a nuclear weapon or stop them from having it now? While it true that Pearl Harbor was a wake-up call for the US, the situation with Iran today is different in several way. The US of today is more active in diplomacy and intelligence-gathering to monitor threats and prevent nuclear proliferation. This is not 1940, there are more channels to address this issue. Waiting for marked enemies to grow powerful is risky, but so is escalating tensions with an uncertain outcome. |

raumdeuter: One of the major reasons companies manufacture abroad is because of cheap labor. Every job done in America can be done for less than 30% of the labor cost outside America. In China 10yr olds can work for 75 cents an hour, This would be illegal in America
So what will be the possible solution to that? It very hard to come up with a clear solution, given the competitive advantage of cheap labor. Maybe offering incentives to companies that commit to domestic production would help encourage businesses to prioritize local manufacturing while still maintaining competitiveness in the market. |

Otherwise we’ll be stuck debating things that never happened. Foreign Affairs › Re: American Politics Thread: Trump Is The 47th President! by Omofaye99: 1:06pm On Apr 08, 2025 |
basilico: You just can't have zero tariffs on every product. If the tariffs were fair noone would be cursing Trump for enacting tariffs. Whether China agrees to remove all taxes, America can't do the same because most of the manufacturing is outside of America and in China specifically . When Trump 1.0 introduced tariffs to China ,a lot of their companies moved to Vietnam. Others set up shop in Canada and Mexico where they could manufacture in China, then assemble in Mexico and send them tarif free to your doorstep. I don't know why you people are bitter when Trump is basically saying. We are their biggest market ,we need to be able to sell to them too. China ,and I've posted a long story about them. Won't allow you to operate without local partners . Difference.Once they know how your product is made they open a competitor across the street and compete with you .They will change the brand name so slightly ,a lot of buyers won't know . For instance, Samsung competitor becomes Sansung with exactly the same outward appearance. IOW they don't respect IP,they sort of encourage it
This is what Trump is battling. I want a bully who will stand up to China first. China is the second largest economy yet WTO ranks it as a developing economy, under GATT they attract lower tariffs . You made a good point. I also agree that zero tariffs on every product is unrealistic. While tariffs can play a role in addressing trade imbalances, relying on them as the sole solution is misguided. Like you stated many companies have moved manufacturing to countries like Vietnam and Canada, instead of bringing jobs back to the US. Why is that? I think the focus should be on finding solutions that address the underlying issues prompting companies to manufacture abroad, Instead of resorting to blanket tariffs, which can harm American consumers and businesses. |

Nigeria have no chance Even infrastructure is zero I get your worries about insecurity and infrastructure, but hosting the Commonwealth could actually help Nigeria improve. It would attract attention and investment, and can also be the catalysts for improved infrastructure. Other countries have faced difficulties and still hosted big events successfully. Henix: Pls can you equally give us breakdown on how 500k is going to last a year in Zamfara or Sokoto In place like Zamfara where accommodation is cheap, you can get a good selfcon for 100k per year. Groceries expenses of maybe 25k per month Utility payment of light bill of 10k per year Transport of 4k per month Let calculate: Accommodation: 100,000 Naira per year Groceries: 25,000 Naira per month x12 months = 300,000 Naira per year Utilities (light bill): 10,000 Naira per year Transport: 4,000 Naira per month × 12 months = 48,000 Naira per year 100,000+300,000+10,000+48,000=458,000 a year. |

£2000 in London is like a drop in the ocean. Lets make a breakdown of expenses.
Let say you are considering a shared room of maybe £600 monthly, utility bill of £100 per month. Expenses of let say grocery of £200 with £100 for transportation monthly.
That is a total of £1100 a month.
Back to Nigeria, 500k naira depends on the region and area. 500k in northern state like Zamfara or Sokoto will last you a year. |
