Listing Dangote Refinery on the Nigerian Exchange is a great move that promises significant benefits for citizens. It also provide a legitimate investment opportunity and helps protect individuals from scams like CBex, where many have lost their money. With this listing, citizens can become key players in the economy through financial participation, which not only empowers them but also fosters job creation. As more local and foreign investors come on board, the refinery will expand, driving growth and opportunities for everyone involved. This initiative could truly transform the economic landscape for Nigerians. Its a good move.
Obrigardo: This is the turning point, and i think it would not end well for him. The regime is now actively defying a 9-0 SCOTUS ruling. That is a full blown crisis there. In some areas, people will call this Treason.
I strongly believe this is the camel that will finally damn his presidency and send him running away from the white house for good this time.
Mark my words.
Trump has the power to deport individuals and label it a mistake, yet he often fails to rectify such situations. It is even more concerning to see him sitting next to Bukele a dictator, and laughing at what's not.
DeepSight: Add a dislike button. Let there also be a drop down to show the names of monikers who have liked, disliked and shared.
Add option to create polls.
But most importantly, hand out life bans for all tribalistic posts. Your great site has been overrun by thousands of cheap meaningless tribalistic posts. It is destrying your value big time. Also life-ban monikers that are in themselves tribalistic. Do this ceaselessly until they get tired. Its a major operation.
Finally there are many bots on the site progarmmed to automatically respond in favor of certain political parties. Get rid of them ALL.
It’s been a while, I can’t believe Deepsight is still here on the forum. Great to see you.
I'm throwing this question to you because it's very important. Every time I ask, "how is Nairaland?" I'm told that it is fine. If I ask what are the challenges I'm told there are none.
So I need to talk to you guys directly about what you think is going on and what you want us to do. I have not had the confidence to make major changes on Nairaland. I have a little confidence now because of AI.
What are your complaints, your challenges, your issues. What are the things that can drive people away and need to be nipped?
Speak your mind, but don't be rude. Thanks.
Oga Seun, I think its time we spice things up on this forum. First off, let’s introduce a badge system for contributors who engage in impactful discussions. This will really encourage quality participation from everyone.
We should also create dedicated sub-forums for specialized fields, but make them accessible only to verified experts. This way, we can have deeper and more meaningful conversations. A Q&A section should also be created where regular users can ask question and get an answers from experts on the field.
Also make the process to becoming an expert a little bit more hard to discourage trolls, where users who seek to earn an expert tag would need to submit an application detailing their qualifications, experience, and areas of expertise like professional credentials and work history. It’s also important that these experts go through regular reviews to ensure they’re still on point, and we should encourage community feedback on their contributions.
I think we will also need an approval button. This will help us in our badging system.
Our badging system should be in three levels
1. Active badge: For those who actively participate across various topics on the forum. Calculated by number of posts, likes and engagements.
2. Contributor badge: For those who make insightful post and engage in meaningful discussion. Calculated by number of helpful posts, threads, and also moderators approval to a certain time.
3. Expert badge: This I believe should be awarded to those who have undergo verification process.
Its easier for those who do not live in those states, those communities and do not see the frustration of the people you see daily to pontificate on why its bad to have fair trade and tariff China
Like someone like this talking down on HVAC jobs because she spent 200K getting her degree
Nia-Malika Henderson is out of touch with the American people.
"Is it worth it to upend the global economy for HVAC jobs?"
I'm sure there are plenty of people who would love a six-figure HVAC or technician job. We understand folks that go to Duke, Columbia, and Yale like… pic.twitter.com/5HHvdI5UJ0
She is uninformed about HVAC careers and the opportunities they present. My friend works as an HVAC technician in Canada, earning CAD $38 per hour for a 41-hour work week. This is approximately CAD $80,000 per year before deductions for pension and other benefits. I believe this career path is far more advantageous than attending university and accumulating a debt burden of $200K for a degree that may not guarantee a job.
raumdeuter: It's not just Biden, it's every past administration for the past 40yrs who watched as American manufacturing shut down and the people and communities who depend on them left behind
If you notice, it's why Trump won all the rust belt states. The middle states who depend a lot on manufacturing and who got affected the most by the loss of manufacturing jobs after they were deceived for long
These people believed and voted for past presidents who promised to bring these jobs back and didn't do it
You’re right that the decline of American manufacturing started long before Biden, and no administration has fully solved it.
Many voters in the Rust Belt often support candidates who speak to their concerns, especially when they feel their needs are not being met. This is why Trump gained support in 2016. People hoped he would make a difference, but that didn’t happen. If his present administration continues in its chaotic direction, the next election might eventually lean towards another Democratic candidate promising change, no matter their past performance.
This cycle of hope followed by disappointment will continue to the demerit of the RustBelt voters searching for someone who will truly addresses their needs.
bemeruca: That's where regulatory policies and implementation comes in.
So they have to look for a balance and bring back manufacturing
I understand your point about regulatory policies and finding a balance to bring back manufacturing. And I'm not completely against the idea of automation either; it just a concern shared by many.
My main focus is on the impact of Trump's tariffs and trade war.
raumdeuter: The previous presidents what have they done to tackle offshoring? You cant be mad at someone doing something when you did nothing
It's not true that previous administrations did nothing to tackle offshoring. I don't want to engage in a back-and-forth comparison with Biden's administration. But its important to recognize that past administration should not justify the chaotic approach taken by Trump.
bemeruca: And I am saying automation if implemented will solve the offshoring problem and there will be more jobs and self-sufficiency in the country instead of relying on China. The key here is implementation and regulations.
Automation can indeed create some jobs, but it will also displaces many workers, leading to significant job losses. But Trumps method of addressing offshoring through tariffs was counterproductive.
raumdeuter: We cannot do much about automation and Technology but the offshoring that we can, why wont a leader try to address that? If you have pain in your head and your leg at the same time, why is it bad to relieve that of your leg even if you cant solve both?
The entire world is fighting the US b placing unreasonable tariff on US, they claim they are protecting their own local companies, So why cant the US protect its own local companies?
I'm not against the idea of tackling offshoring, because it's indeed a valid issue that needs addressing. I am only critical of the method Trump employed, which involved imposing tariffs and engaging in trade wars. This approach led to retaliatory measures from other countries, straining international relations and ultimately jeopardizing the very local companies he aimed to protect.
While it's necessary to address specific issues like offshoring, the approach matters. If a leader focus solely on quick fixes like tariffs, it can lead to broader economic pain, much like treating one symptom without considering the overall health of the body.
GloriousGbola: this is actually why some people are cheering on trump as he scatters the US . because US citizens have always been isolated from the realities american policies cause in other countries
Gadaffi is dead and now his stockpile of arms are in the hands of herdsmen . herdsmen have always been a menace, right from my days in secondary school, but now they are an outright threat. likely some of those arms get to boko haram as well. we are all feeling it one way or another in west afrcica in general and nigeria n particular
more important is this team is a complete gang of cosplayers with no idea what they are doing. the long term result of ousting saddam was isis. who knows what the long term result of destabilizing iran would be?
unfortunately these guys see it all as a movie where the story ends when the credits roll and the 'hero' rides off into the sunset. see also rambo 3 and the brave mujadeen
IjeBos: That is a conversation that the US has to have. Do people actually want cheaper good/services or do they think people should be paid a living wage.
raumdeuter: Automation will lead to loss of jobs, But you cannot have automation screwing you from one side and offshoring from the other side
I think we both can agree that automation and offshoring threaten American jobs. This is why many view Trump as out of touch, you can’t fight the entire world when you're already at a disadvantage.
