Hello all mamas in the house, how are we doing. I know we have all gone through child birth experiences so I know we can relate to what I am to say.
Since I had my baby, I have been feeling some how, I don't know if it's depressed or irritating and my challenge is this. I was naked a lot during my child birth process and a lot of people inserted their hands inside me in the name of checking my cervix. I cringe any time I remember this even as I am typing I am barely holding it together, it's not been easy for me.
After some days I had my baby, I had to go back to the hospital cos I was bleeding profusely, by the way I had a c-section, so I had another dose of being touched and different things been inserted down there to help remove blood clots.
The thing now is I haven't been over this incidences, I feel highly uncomfortable in my own skin, I can't stand being naked, I can't stand not wearing pants, I feel so vulnerable.
As much as I understand that all they did was to safe my life, I just don't get how I feel, I haven't even been able to talk to my husband about it.

I would advise you speak with a psychologist about this. We Africans are known to overlook issues like this, and sometimes accuse the Mother of being ungrateful. But no matter how we look at it, Post-Partum Depression and its variants are real!

Yes, many women have gone through worse....yes, you should be grateful you are alive and well with your baby.....but that still does not solve anything. It's not easy to overcome issues like this on your own, professional advice is always the best option.

And if you are spiritual, take it to God in prayers. He is the great psychologist, and knows you more than you know yourself.

This too shall pass.

Gud evening mamas in d ouz, pls ow can I encourage my Lo to crawl, she sits very well bt dosent seem interested in crawling evn wen placed on her tummy. She's 4mths+ will b 5 on d 30th. Pls wat can I do. Hope she isn't late @ it am worried. Tnks mums may Almighty God bless n kip our Lo's.

You are worried about crawling at 5mths? Better calm down. The average age babies start crawling is 7mths...although some start before or way after. Be easy. Crawling is even no longer considered a milestone...cos mamy babies walk without crawling.

@esteria i'm being soo patient with her and she improved this evening, pray she continues and @mydreams25 I sang to her while feeding her this evening and she ate more....thanks dears..

I feel your pain sis. I literally fell into depression when my son showed me this kind of pepper. To cap it up, he also stopped BM at 6mths. I stopped going out cos people used to ask stewpid questions like, "Are you not feeding him?" "Why is he not big?" "You dress up fine, your pikin no fat" And many other stewpid stewpid comments. I had to switch to Enfamil because of the hogher fat content.

Till date, he is still not a big eater.I used to UnCloth myself to feed him his cereal...cos na fight we dey fight everytime!

God compensated me by giving me my daughter who can eat for Africa hehehe....no fight when it comes to that girl.

Good morning mothers, pls my 2 months plus old baby sweats alot so much that i have to change her clothes like twice before day break and i stopped using the fan cos she wakes up with congested nose. Is there something else i can do to keep her cool? P.S she sleeps in the lightest onesies. Thanks

Even person wey no dey sweat a lot go sweat for Naija, if fan or ac is not on.

Can you afford an air cooler?

If you can't, you can buy a rotating standing fan. ceiling fans are notorious for causing congested noses.

Lmao. U people won't kill me with laugh. No I have NEVER backed my baby. I don't even know how to tie wrapper, let alone tying one to back a baby. So I definitely know it's not from backing.

I don't live in Lagos to be going to GH? I reside in Abuja, my pediatrician saw it b4 I returned to naija with the baby and he said it was nothing to worry about. I'm not worried about it to be honest coz it's not painful or bleeding. And I have monitored it for months, nothing has changed. I just felt that someone here had experienced it on their baby? That's why I asked. I will see anothwr pediatrician in Abuja just to be sure. Thanks mums.

And you are sure it's not a birthmark?

No ma'am. As part of the Polio eradication endgame, the WHO is trying to phase out the Oral Polio and replace it with the Inactivated IPV which is what will be used after polio eradication. IPV is now available in Nigeria as part of the Polio endgame plan.
They are trying to phase out OPV and replace with IPV for the post polio free Nigeria era.
Its ok to get the IPV even after taking the OPV

Still does not mean they are not the same...they both work against polio, and one is not stronger than the other. The OPV is even better, as it offers immunity to other members of the household, through water supply, sewage etc. The OPV also improves the intestinal lining thickness (dont know the medical term to best describe it)...the only disadvantage is the RARE post-OPV paralysis that occurs in a few people.

The IPV is given when an area has been declared polio free, or is almost polio free...as it does not offer immunity tonother members of the household/community. The IPV has been suggested because there is no point risking the occurence of the post-OPV paralysis, if an area has been declared polio free.

My sister uses makari for her kids and the first daughter is still very dark. The difference between her and a random dark girl is the glow, her black shines - makes her skin radiate even though it's dark. I use same for my daughter and she's not oyinbo, but looking at her skin gives the impression of ajebutter.
Makari baby products is good for those that can afford it.

Dont get me wrong. I am not implying their products lighten babies...

Makari is good for adults, but I personally wouldnt use their baby products. Probably because when I hear Makari, my mind immediately goes to skin lightening lol.

Pls who can help me with this? It's on the back of my baby's head, what is it and what can I use to treat it? It itches as well. I have applied Shea butter and baby oil on it. Nothing. It's been there since my baby was 2 months. My baby is 5 months plus now.

It looks like a bruise...and it looks like what backing can cause. The constant movement of the head when the weapper is tied to the neck, causes bruising.

If you dont back your baby at all. Then see a doc. If you do, stop backing her for a while, continue applying the shea, and see if there is a difference.

yes, its IPV (an injection).

IPV and OPV are the same...just the method of delivery is different.

Hello mamas, how are we all coping & hope our los are cooperating grin. Please for mamas who are feeding their los on Enfamil( I know they are many here),kindly advice me on the measurement for baby's age e.g my baby is 4mths+,the previous formular I used,I measure 210ml water & 7level scoops of formular for his age but for Enfamil,I'm not so sure of the measurement hence the need to ask

P.S - please u mamas should not ignore my question because u have once ignored me.Abeg make una answer o.God bless us all

The measurement is on the ti.

Enfamil's scoops are larger...they are double the size of Aptamil. I used both Aptamil and Enfamil. Aptamil was 1 scoop to 1oz, while Enfamil is 1 scoop to 2 oz.

When it comes to antibiotics, it is a cost-benefit ratio thing. When my son had an ear infection at about 4 weeks, antibiotic was the only way out. There are some times when it cannot be avoided. That is why you should prevent infection in the first place.

In the above case, for a 3month old to have a lasting cough....expecting that cough to go on its own is not the best port of call. Cos expecting the child's immunity to catch up at this stage is too late.

That is why she MUST finish the dosage....and then put preventive measures in place.

Cough and catarrh at 3 months? Naaa....you need to be more careful with her and her things. Cough at 3 months is too early. Just go with the doctors prescription. Ensure youbstore the antibiotic as per instructions on the leaflet...then also ensure you complete the dosage.

what were the symptoms? My son won't sleep without ac n fan together o! I'm just tired. When I turn off d AC or d fan, he wakes up immediately.

http://www.rch.org.au/kidsinfo/fact_sheets/Pneumonia/

I wouldnt bother about the AC. As long as he is properly dressed. We have to realise that children live in Iceland, Canada and Alaska....and they have not all bern infected by pneumonia. The recommended room temp for kids is about 25/26degrees or so. So if you can keep the AC at that temp, and dress him fine...then you are good to go.

Thanks @OmogeNG.... Wat abt cereals. Abeg I'm a ftm and I want to get it right the first time.

Heinz, Cerelac, Gerber, are all good cereals.

Start with single grain cereals first...e.g rice cereal. Then gradually upgrade to multigrain.

Mama's,
How are we doing? We just collected our 6th week immunisation.Someone scared me on my way back by telling me she does not give her children immunisation becos it causes SID(sudden infant death).
Abeg ooo.I have never heard this part o.

Hian! There is no specific cause of SIDS...It is just like colic....many things can lead to it. It would have been a different thing if ahe said Autism....but SIDS...mba!

Please keep your kid away from her. Its people like that who have kids that end up emdangering the life of other kids. A woman lost her 3mth old to chicken pox abi na whooping cough...all because she was exposed to kids that were not vaccinated. Where I stay, they are making it a law for childcare centres to refuse to admit kids who are not vaccinated.

Hello great mothers.. my 14 month old has had this cough for 2 months now and it disturbs at night. He wakes up from sleep coughing and vomits thereafter. I've used several antibiotics which reduces it but it increases again some days after I stop d antibiotics. I boil he's drinking water and he takes jus cerelac, iindome, some swallow, Caprisonne but not always so I don't think it has to do with what he's eating. I've given him so many bottles of cough syrups which never works until d doc said I shud stop it. What native or herbal can I use 4 him as am tired of antibiotics it's becoming too much for he's tender body. Pls I need help on any known native or herbal combinations that work and is not harmful to him. I've also been treating a very stubborn malaria every month now that even quinine cannot stop. God help mothers. It is well. Pls I need ur response. Thanks in advance.

It is fairly common. Does he attend daycare? My son keep recycling cough....his seems like its an allergy we havent yet detected. Antibiotics didnt seem to do anything either. The cough seems to come and go. But he seems fine regardless.

I will try the honey. You can try it tooo....since he is older than 1.

Lets both report here after a week.

Lol. It's even in naija they keep saying bath with hot water, press with hot water, drink hot tea and all sorts.

In d US once u av ur baby until u r discharge, it's water with lots off ice blocks they ll give u to drink tru out. So I keep wondering what d myth about d hot stuff came about.

Also they advice sitz bath as well

Hahaha...dont you know that Nigerians are a different set of humans. Things that apply to women in other cultures/races, dont apply to us. Lol. Na only Nigerians get oka, it's only Nigerians that cold water causes convulsion when you take it while pregnnt, ....and so may other myths! Some people believe the heat shrinks the uterus, and 'melts' the blood. THIS IS VERY WRONG. Your uterus shrinks on its own...the shrinking starts from after you put to bed, and can be especially noticed when you breastfeed...it's called after birth pains.

My friend put to bed abroad, and the first thing she was given was ice.

If you had strong tummy muscles before pregnancy, getting your timmy back wont be hard.

All that hot water pressing is a myth!

My Mum and Mil said I should do it....I turned the offer down. She was waiting to tell me "I told you so"...lol....less than a month after birth, I was back to my old sef. Although my timmy muscles were not as firm as before, but I could wear the same clothes. When she saw me, she had no choice but to comment.

And no....I didnt take any hot anything...neither did I bath any hot bath. The closest I got to hot/warm ater was my sitz bath.Wish I could post pics here....but unfortunately, I cant.

Please I would like to know how best to store the expressed milk. For example, let's say I expressed 90 ml, n she drinks only 60 ml, can the remaining be stored again in the fridge or thrown away. also when is best to express, at work? Or after work. sorry for the long post, I work very far from where I live so I can't shuttle it in between during the day. So whatever I express will be used then formula will take over till I return.

Please I need advice on how best to go about it. Thanks.

Thawed milk should not be re-refrigerated or re-frozen. As Kimoni advised, ensure you get containers that you van fill with the exact amount she needs....give or take a few mls. It is very painful when BM wastes. Back then, I used to prefer wasting formula than BM lol.

Milk can be stored at room temp for 6hrs
In a fridge for 6 days
In a fridge with a freezer combo for 6 weeks
And in a stand alone freezer for 6mths
