Politics / UK ‘Was Urged To Investigate’ Ekweremadu Before Organ Trafficking Plot by omojoibo: 3:36am On May 08, 2023
A former US intelligence analyst warned the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to investigate the activities of a senior Nigerian politician before he trafficked a man to London in an attempt to harvest his kidney, the Guardian can reveal.

On Friday, Ike Ekweremadu was sentenced to more than nine years in prison for being the driving force in a plot to harvest a kidney for his sick daughter in the first organ trafficking conviction under the Modern Slavery Act.

Matthew Page, a Nigeria expert at the US state department’s bureau of intelligence and research from 2012 t0 2016 and now an associate fellow at the Chatham House thinktank, said the plot could have been foiled if UK authorities had acted on his warnings about Ekweremadu and a dossier of material about his activities in Britain.

He said the trafficking conspiracy showed what could happen if such documented suspicions about corruption were ignored.

“Clearly the UK authorities had ample opportunity to scrutinise Ekweremadu’s UK activities before things reached the point of people-trafficking or organ harvesting,” he said.

In research partly funded by the UK’s Department for International Development, Page examined how Nigerian politicians including Ekweremadu used unexplained wealth to buy millions of pounds’ worth of properties in the UK and fund expensive private education for their children.

He found that in a 12-year period, Ekweremadu would have made about £339,000 as a political office holder, including his stint as deputy president of the Nigerian senate. But in that period he bought three properties – two in London and one in Cambridge – worth £4.2m. The Old Bailey heard that Ekweremadu had an international property portfolio worth more than £6m

Politics / Why Nigeria Is Bad !!! An Israeli Opinion. by omojoibo: 6:01am On Apr 24, 2023
Ian Kedem

Former Combat Medic at Israeli Defence Forces (1982–2001)5y

Why is Nigeria bad?
I'm an Israeli that worked on an agricultural project on Plateau State, Nigeria for 5 years. I want to tell you that Nigerians are the friendlies, most hospitable people I've ever known.

They are let down by their corrupt leaders who are not content with stealing millions but need billions.

The average Nigerian is poor and has to be self sufficient to survive. There is no Government help. School fees, hospital fees all have to be paid for. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

Religion is another way of controlling the population. Nigerians are very religious. They are very naïve and believe everything their told in the name of religion.

The best way forward for Nigerians is to empower their women who are the real power in Nigeria. Let the women have power over their bodies and their lives and you'll see that Nigeria will progress.

Liberate Nigeria from their primitve religious beliefs and patriarchal society and Nigeria will prosper.

Romance / 90 Day Fiancé's Angela & Ilesanmi Allegedly End Marriage by omojoibo: 11:15am On Feb 01, 2023

Angela Deem and Michael Ilesanmi from 90 Day Fiancé celebrated their 3rd anniversary by supposedly conforming their long-incoming split. The 56-year-old Georgia woman was first spotted in the TLC franchise on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days season 2 with 34-year-old Nigerian man Michael. Angela’s insecurity and trust issues often made her get into shocking fights with Michael. In their latest appearance in 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? season 7, Angela found out Michael had a secret American girlfriend who he met on Instagram.
90 Day Fiancé's Angela Deem resolved to divorce Michael during the Tell-All. However, fans suspected Angela would never divorce Michael because she would have done it already during all the years they were together. Just like in the Happily Ever After? season 7 Tell-All, Angela had told Michael she was “done” with him in Happily Ever After? season 6, only to get back together. But according to a report by InTouch, Angela, and Michael have parted ways. “Angela and Michael are not together,” a source told the publication. No more information was given about why Angela and Michael made the sudden decision to quit their relationship. It can be assumed it was because of Michael’s cheating scandal or some new controversial situation.

Sports / Boxing Results: Efe Ajagba Defeats “Big Shot” Shaw At Turning Stone! by omojoibo: 9:21am On Jan 15, 2023
Nigerian heavyweight Efe “Silent Roller” Ajagba won a ten round unanimous decision over St. Louis’ Stephan “Big Shot” Shaw to close out the show on Saturday night at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York. Ajagba was looking to make it two in a row after his lone setback to Frank Sanchez in October 2021, while Shaw was looking to remain undefeated.

Things opened up cautiously, each man looking to establish their jab in round one. Ajagba move forward in round two, again behind his jab, while Shaw opted to use good lateral movement, countering on occasion and initiating the action only when Ajagba stopped his forward momentum. At the end of the fourth, the first sign of crowd dissatisfaction showed as boos cascaded the ring due to the tactical, if not scintillating action. With two heavyweights known for their knockout power, this was a very carefully fought match, with neither man wanting to risk getting caught in a wild exchange.

Yet, after each round, Shaw would pump his right fist in the air as he walked to his corner, if not to convince the judges that he won that round, then to convince himself. Despite the fact that the action had been an instant replay of itself round after round, the crowd rained down another avalanche of boos midway through the ninth. Late in the tenth round, the cacophony boos repeated itself which seemed to Ajagba to unleash a Gatling gun of jabs that snapped Shaw’s head back violently. While each man appeared to employ very different game plans it appeared Ajagba’s was the more successful. In the end, the judges agreed as all three scored it 96-94 in favor of Ajagba, now 17-1, 13 KOs. Shaw loses his first at 18-1, 13 KOs.

“I went back to the corner and they told me to let my hands go, keep throwing punches, my jab. I controlled the fight, so that’s how I won the fight,” said Ajagba. “He tried to land the big shots. I watched him to see what he was going to do. He kept throwing the jab, using the jab more.”

Politics / Re: Is Lokoja Really The Worst Capital In Nigeria? by omojoibo: 10:04am On Dec 20, 2022
With help of Google maps you can explore various cities across the country and see how they compare in terms of roads and infrastructural developments. Many of the cities in the North are well spaced out with relative good road networks .Some cities in the south are fairly okay but many are awfully congested. The south west have many old school buildings ,typical of Yoruba cities. I appreciate Amosun for opening up my city Abeokuta with some few nice roads. Akwa Ibom has well developed infrastructure. Abia needs to work on their poor road network and city congestion.

Health / Nigerian Doctors In Uk Lament Exploitation, Slave Labour by omojoibo: 11:17am On Oct 13, 2022
Nigerian medical doctors and their counterparts from developing countries working in the United Kingdom have lamented exploitation in the course of their work.

This was revealed by BBC on Tuesday adding that an investigation proved that Nigerian doctors recruited by a British healthcare company are expected to work in private hospitals under conditions not allowed in the National Health Service (NHS).

While the British Medical Association (BMA) has described the situation as “shocking”, some of the hospitals denied the allegations as claimed by Nigerians.

BBC spoke to several foreign medical practitioners and one of them was a young Nigerian doctor, Augustine Enekwechi who worked at the private Nuffield Health Leeds Hospital in 2021.

Enekwechi said his working hours were extreme – on 24 hours a day for a week at a time. He claimed he was unable to leave the hospital grounds, adding that the working environment looked like “a prison.”

The doctor further said the challenges could pose health risks to patients in the hospital.

“I knew that working tired puts the patients at risk and puts myself also at risk, as well for litigation,” Enekwechi said. “I felt powerless… helpless, you know, constant stress and thinking something could go wrong.”

Nuffield Health disputed those working hours, saying its doctors are offered regular breaks, time off between shifts, and the ability to swap shifts if needed. The company added that “the health and well-being of patients and hospital team members” is its priority.
