henroe2k2: Yenagoa—Residents of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State and its environs are disturbed by what they described as arbitrary electricity billing by the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, PHEDC. Electricity consumers in the state are lamenting the monthly increase in the billing system even as the power situation remains epileptic. Most of the buildings in the state capital and its environs do not have electricity meters to determine energy consumption but the PHEDC is charging electricity consumers through unequal estimation of service charge, which most the residents insist is outrageous and unbearable. Vanguard gathered that the development was causing general discontent among residents and may snowball to street protests. While some residential areas are allotted estimated bills per building, others are grouped and billed per transformer. The matter was recently debated on the floor of the state House of Assembly and unanimously condemned by the lawmakers. The Speaker, Mr. Konbowei Benson, had described the development as unfortunate. He said: “We are tired of this billing system. We are billed N800,000 every month. There is no meter to show how much we incur every month and if we don’t pay, they come to disconnect us.”

However, if we remain one, in the next 10 years, Nigeria will be a first world country. We shall be exporting cars, trains, aircrafts, etc. This is not just a wish, it is the reason for the TRANSFORMATION AGENDA, of the Goodluck Jonathan government.

Nigeria has no history of aggression against any state. They have only fought a civil war with a break away, ill equipped Biafra. And still had to pay mescenaries from other countries to fight their wars. Nigerian army (alone) * 10 cannot handle RSA or Egyptian army onslaught for a day. And I mean a day. Realistic military people, I know some of them; will tell you that they would pack their bags and go to their village, in an event of such a war. dis comment is so dan funny |

xwolverine: As funny as it sounds, the reason given is that Nigeria is in breach of their so called senator Leahy laws. This to me is selective double standards, because Nigeria has shown itself over the years as dependable ally, even when we had the tyrants in power (Abacha), our alpha jets were used extensively to end the Liberian and Seira leoninan wars, if we look at the Israeli conflicts with Palestines, there were numerous cases of human right abuse, but the Yanks turned the blind eye.
The sanctions, though unofficial from the yanks, is what our ogas are giving as reasons for not getting the right hardwares, which to me is a blessing in disguise and it further buttresses my point that we should turn East for our military assets. The Cobras blocked from the Israeli deal does 150 mph, the Mi 35m does 150mph and its relatively cheaper. They both have night fighting capabilities, why do we keep on crying about the yanks blocking our purchases?
Our foreign policy is inherently weak and we lack national defence/security strategy, that's why we are constantly being bullied. Would South Africans Handle the $9 million like that if it was the yanks that owned it? Look at Algeria and the debacle when about 60 expertriates of which most were from powerful countries were kidnapped, the Algerians made sure that no fly from any foreign country dared enter their airspace, putting it in lockdown. We on the other hand had to invite the yanks to our country, because of the chibok saga. The yanks were practically left to gather invaluable Intel about our nation and military assets, heck they even refused to share intelligence with our boys. The French who colonised Algeria were practically beg to go near the Algerian border, with a lot of diplomatic negotiations and pleading. After locking down their airspace, the Algerian special forces went in guns blazing and killed almost 20 of the hostages yet we didn’t ear any crap from the west about that operation till today, the only thing the Algerian foreign minister had to say was "we couldn’t allow ransom money to enter the terrorists hands to torment algerians so something had to be done”. After everything, the yanks packed their gears and left without doing jack.
We wouldn't be in this position if after the Biafra wars we had started to harness those inventions from the Ibos. We could have upgraded Dicon to enviable standards , unlike what obtains now, where the only meaningful manufacturing going on in Dicon is reproductions of AK47 in this day and age where college students are manufacturing drones, heck we can't even manufacture military protective gears. Who are we deceiving.
As predicted, GEJ is currently in the US, cap in hand begging the yanks to have mercy, where is our national pride and respect? I'm sure he would be smiling sheepishly while the yanks and Other African countries would be making fun of us. even ordinary Cameroon that doesn't have an airforce are claiming that they carried out strikes inside the Nigerian territory. I don't care whoever occupies the Aso Rock next year, as long as the person has balls of steel. hav u also forgotten wen BH held a british and an italian hostage in sokoto,ao d nig govt let d british sent dia special forces in to conduct a rescue operation alongsyd d nig army, what d nigerian army special forces should hav done alone, abi y are dey usin tax payers moni,to train, feed an quip dem |

Validated: The appellation 'Middle Belt' does not necessarily mean that the region is exactly in the middle of Nigerian map. It would then be wrong to class Delta, Edo, Cross Rivers and Akwa Ibom as South-South if we adopt your analogy. Middle Belt represents those minority groups in the North especially in the Benue basin / Kwara / Kogi axis, some part of Kebbi and Niger State, Plateau, especially Christians within these regions. Although you can call these people as Arewa, but for political alignment, the whole Arewa is divided into North East, North West and North Central or Middle Belt. HAH has said it all, middle belt is anoda name for christian northerners association,if u fink dey represent d minorities in arewa, why cant we hav minorities muslim communities from yobe, borno, adamawa etc.... |

No country in Africa has experience like the Nigeria army, Not even Egypt, and we also have the largest army in the whole continent. si many thought having only hardware is what makes a strong country. south Africa thougt that they have arrived because they have many weapon, they wanted to do show off So they sent their troops to Central African Republic, I guess you know what came upon them that time that they have to withdraw their troops in shame. check history of international mission Nigeria army has gone and they always come back victorious. ... just get this right, that war BTW two countries is easier to win than fighting insurgents cause you always have traitors. OkijaAmaka: Yes Igbos dont have king and will not bother about the benefits of having a Tinubu as one. Igbos even make it vocal that "King is an enemy" "Ezebuilo" is a name in Igboland.
Achebe in TWAC acknowledged it, he said Yorubas had an headstart but Igbos where quick in wiping out their handicapp with a fantastic burst of energy because like the Yorubas they were not hindered by traditional hierarchies or the Hausas by wary religion.
Igbos are republicans and capitalists, without kings they are controlling their economies back home while trooping to Lagos to convert you that are in your kingdoms to slaves yet your kings couldnt save you.
The kings of Yorubas are Bleaching Olefin of Oyo with his numerous body-toning whores called Oloris, the Kings of the Oba of Lagos who will collect 24% kickback from Dangote and give him the ancestral homes of his subjects to demolish while the subjects turn to talakawas protesting in the streets of Isale Eko.
Igbos dont need Kings to blossom, mordern democratic settings dont thrive off monarchy and kingdoms.
Igbos will learn from Hausa abi, so that poverty will never depart in the abodes of those who didnt come from the royal family? The type of Tinubu is whom your recommending for Igbos, whose wife is a senator, son-in-law a rep member, daughter a market leader, mother a ex market leader, brother money launderer, daughter-in-law a commisoner, he own 20% Lagos alone, all the revenues collections in SW are done by his coy, he was a senator, a governor, a godfather, a party owner, a certificate foger, an age cheat and drug dealer ......well Awolowo too was an ex convict and a notorious criminal, Abiola a notorious criminal and ex convict, Obasanjo an ex convict and a notorious criminal...who are Yorubas rewarding if not thugs, criminals and miscreants?
Igbos are independent minded, an Igbo child that didnt go to school will be under apprentice for 6yrs after the boss will settle him, he will start a biz and become his own boss, while a Yoruba drop out willl end up a tout or perpetual servant to a semi rich kinsmen, at 60yrs yorobamen are still serving their new boss whose dad they previously served, its only in yorubaland that you can spend N40K to lear mechanic for 17yrs, after you will free when your oga is satisfied of using you as an apprentice, he will again tell you to spend another money for being free which involves partying and merrymaking, then he will ask you to work for him for 3yrs again as independent former boy not minding your almost 40ys with 2wives and many children...Yorubas suck walahi
your king and slave mentality have subjugated you people into working as conductors while Igbos drive the Danfos, you are collecting tolls in Mandilas, Aspamda, Otigba, Alaba, Ladipo while Igbos bring in containers.
Ediots i jst dey laff as i dey read d trash dis guy wrote up dia,,,tinubu is milkin lag dry yet fitch rate lagos AA+,yet lagos has d biggest GDP in nigeria,is one of d safest place to live in nigeria,it has d highest concentration of industry in nigeria etc,,,,i prefer dos man lootin and controllin d lagos govt funds to d likes of TA orji and orji kalu |

emmydeep: It is verry bad that all countries in Africa envy Nigeria. Imagine small Ghana dealing with Nigerians and also asking them not to operate shops inside markets.
South Africa on the other hand have been treating Nigerians living in their country like slaves, shutting down their legitimate bussinesses, arresting them, detaining and even killing some of them. Imaging South Africa, owners of criminal DSTV, MULTICHOICE, SHOPRITE AND THE REST THAT HAVE STOLEN NIGERIANS DRY.
South africa also used MTN to destroy NITEL and others. I feel verry bad that Nigerians find it very dificult be partrotic towards their government.
I wish to use this medium to call on all Nigerians to be patrotic, suport our government and shame the enemies of this great country. While we strive to make Nigeria a heaven on earth, we should all realise that Rome was not built in a day. It may take us time; but we must surely get there soon.
I also advice the Nigerian government to use the opporturnity that south africa have created by seizing our $9.8 billion to fight them back by shutting down all south african owned investments in Nigeria for ripping Nigerians off. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
NIGERIA; GREAT PEOPLE, GREAT NATION. THANK YOU ALL.

kettykin: The link below provides much detailed information about disaster that Murtala mohammed encountered while trying to invade Onitsha from the Asaba end in which he wasted 90% of the troups , an infuririated Murtala was said to have made it back to Asaba and vented his frustration on the innocent Asaba males (both men and Boys ) in the worst form of War crime ever committed .
The second was the Abagana Ambush in which a relatively unknown Major Jonathan Uchendu of the Biafran Army using a locally improvised Ogbunigwe bomb routed a whole Divsion of the Nigerian Army led my General Murtala Mohammed in which almost 100 columns of vehicles carrying military supplies , amunitions , fuel , foods and Nigerian Soldiers were destroyed this singular act put the whole Nigerian army and the International Community backing them in disarray for many days prompting Harold Wilson the then Prime minister of Britain to question Gowon on the Ability of the internationally backed Nigerian Army to defete the Biafran Army despite giving the Nigerian army more weaposn than could have wiped out the Nigerian population 3 times. This incidence forced Murtala Mohaamed to embark on a self imposed exhile to London until the end of the civil when he quietly sneaked in to the country to continue his quest for Military power at the centre.
The third Disaster of the Nigerian army was during the ill fated Operation OAU in which Adekunle embarked on the another self immolation execise in which he started with more than 35,000 Nigerian soldiers and at the end of that exercise only 300 war weary Nigerian soldiers under the leader ship of a certain Lt Col Etuk managed to make it back to Adekunle , so much was the slaughter that Adekunle had to be hurriedly Replaced with Obasanjo see below for the on the spot account.
Although Shuwa's 1st Division successfully captured Okigwe and the Obilagu airstrip the operation resulted in disaster for Adekunle's 3rd Marine Division in which it lost over 20,000 of its 35,000 soldiers, over 2/3 of the entire division, and found itself in short supply of both men and food. While Yakubu Gowon was distracted by the anti-tax riots in western Nigeria the Biafran Brigadier Alexander Madiebo encircled Owerri, trapping the 3,000 man Nigerian 16th Division inside the city. For the next several months attacks were launched by Biafran soldiers on Nigerian defensive positions around the city which allowed them to inch closer to Owerri with every battle. On December 5 the Biafrans launched a two day offensive on Owerri in which 50,000 rounds of ammunition, 300 mortars, 200 howitzer shells, and 20 anti-tank weapons were fired by the Biafrans but the Nigerian 16th Division under Col. Etuk managed to stay put in their original positions. On January 15, 1969 the Biafran 60th Brigade entered Owerri and forced the Nigerians within the city to retreat across the Otamini Bridge. Hungry and half-naked Biafran soldiers discovered the Nigerian's food and clothing supplies and decided to stay and have their fill while the Nigerians regrouped and launched a counter-attack, causing the Biafrans to retreat. By March 31, 1969 the Biafrans had control over 70% of Owerri while the remaining 300 Nigerian soldiers fled the city on April 25
REFERENCES TO FOLLOW Note: The next Federal Nigerian Army Disaster to be discussed is the failed 2DIV assault river crossing of the River Niger to take Onitsha in late 1967 under then Lt. Col. Murtala Mohammed.
