Miadad:hmmmm If marriage is compulsory, then again, how about those that chose to be nuns? Or how about the men? is it compulsory for them as well. btw*** Your life, your rules. i don't think we are arguing that. I'm just saying, marriage isn't compulsory for everybody. If it happens for you, good. If not, No p. |
HungerBAD:But do you think there is anything wrong in a woman that decides to stay single |
Miadad:The question is, What happens if you decide to stay single? To you, is marriage compulsory? |
There is just so much hype about marriage. Though the pressure is more on women than it is on men. So, pardon me because this post is more about women than men. If a man is single, the society does not look down on him, or mock him. At least not so much. There is never an official age for a man to tie the knot. When he has the resources(money), he is ready. For a woman, it is different. She is either accused of having a poor character or maybe possessed. In most cases, It is worse for her when she is successful and well to do. Then, she is accused of bad attitudes, some people would say: "She is domineering" "She lacks respect" "She is not easy to control" And many other things. For example, it is rare to see male celebrities being harassed especially on social media because of their marital status. Dbanj (35) Don Jazzy- 33(music age) and M.i 34, always find a way of making fun out of any topic that has to do with their marital status. But, when it comes to the female celebrites, the reverse is the case. In recent times, popular blogger Linda Ikeji has been the eye of the storm when it comes to marriage discussions and issues. At age 35, singlehood seems to be the only thing that stirs up controversy with her, excluding her controversial blog. It was no surprise when immediately her sister-Laura Ikeji- announced the purchase of the 600 million Naira mansion by the blogger, some Nigerians came at her again. Taunting her, and reminding her of her inability to get a husband after so much success. On a particular day, i was not sure what trended more. The 600 million Naira house at banana island, or her "husband palava" But being the person she is, she seemed unruffled by the controversy. No doubt Linda is a strong woman. But she is not the only spinster around. Rita dominic at 40 Genevive at 36 Ini Edo 33, Funke Akindele 38 (both second hand spinsters though). Apart from being celebrities, another thing peculiar about these women is that, they are all successful and self made. They never seem bothered about the negativity that their marital status would throw at them. Apart from celebrities, there are other unmarried women doing well for themselves. These women, probably have their reasons for choosing to remain single, which may not really be because of their physical attributes or their attitudes. It is also wrong to conclude or generalize especially when it has to do with issues such as this. But then, what is the essence of marriage? Financial Reasons? What if money fails later, can you stay for better for worse or for better for bad? To Cure Loneliness? Is loneliness a sickness? or is having a spouse the tablet or the cure? Because you are pregnant? Never make that mistake because sex is never a criteria for measuring love. You know that right? You had sex, and you became pregnant. That is all. Because you are age ripe? This reminds me of a friend who got into the University at age 26, graduated four years later, got married at 31, and she has 3 kids already. What then is the ripe age especially for a woman? 19, 23, 26, 30? Because of Children? What if you learn years after marriage that you can not have children? What then? Nobody wants to hear the "Children are not the most important thing" sermon. Marriage is the next Item? Okay, you finish your secondary school, you go to the university and you graduate. You go for service(NYSC) then get a job, and then get married. Is that how your timetable looks? Or you are aching to know how sex feels , but you believe in the " No sex before marriage" policy. That is a weird reason to get married. All i am saying is, Marriage should not be done for the wrong reasons. There is no need to be desperate to get married. If you decide to get married, fine ! If not, no problem. For once let us stop leaving our lives by the standard people set for us. It is your life, isn't it? Make your rules and bother less what the society thinks. In the words of Mandy Hale (remixed by me) "A busy vibrant, goal-oriented person is so much more attractive than someone who waits around for a person to come validate their existence". It is better to be single and happy than married and depressed. Culled from http://www.sincerenigerian.com/2015/12/marriage-is-not-important.html?m=1 www.sincerenigerian.com |

Very interesting article by former presidential spokesperson, Reuben Abati...read below... “You look sleepy” “My brother, let’s just say I slept at a fuel station, looking for fuel.” “For which of the women in your life, because I hear these days, to please a woman in Nigeria, you must be ready to supply the three major things lacking in the land: money, fuel, and happiness.” “Leave that matter, please. My condolences on the death of your man, Governor Abubakar Audu” “We thank God for his life. He played his part.” "“To be so close to breasting the tape and then fall.” “I know. I know. May be if he had not insisted on running again for the office of Governor in Kogi state, he would still be alive today.” “The man drove himself too hard, publicly and privately. He ran for every Gubernatorial election in Kogi state since 1991. There must be something special in being Governor for him.” “Don’t speak ill of the dead, I beg you. Simple etiquette.” “But you know now?” “I don’t know nothing” “Then the man went and married a young, 23-year old. If the election had been concluded and the man had won, the First Lady of Kogi state would have been a 23-year old lady! Those who seek public office should always weigh their lifestyle and their health against their ambition, but politicians act as if they are superhuman.” “Can you stop?” “A 74-year old man, with a 23-year old wife. That alone is enough to give anybody hypertension.” “He was 68” “Official age. He was 74, somebody told me.” “Excuse me! Respect the dead, please. Abubakar Audu was a democrat extraordinary, a courageous politician, a visionary, selfless, man of the people, and his party’s popular choice.” “My view is that it is not the election in Kogi that is inconclusive per se, a supplementary election will be organized, a winner will emerge; it is Audu’s death that is inconclusive considering the many issues it has thrown up.” “What kind of talk is that? Death is final. It is the cessation of all things, a necessary end.” “Nothing has ended with Abubakar Audu’s death oh. Did you not see the desperate efforts made to get some Prophets to resurrect him? And some people actually believed that he could be the Lazarus of our time! They started jubilating.” “That is concrete proof of his popularity. But I was shocked seeing Nigerians will believe anything, and being so superstitious. Even the grave diggers stopped digging, waiting for the prophets to perform a miracle.” “I hear there was a meeting of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the Kogi election but the moment the prophets waded in, even INEC suspended its meeting and did not reconvene until the prophets failed.” “Only in Africa!” “When the Prophets didn’t deliver, people got angry. They could have lynched those Prophets” “Well, at least, some people will now know that the prophets are not always right in the age of biology and science. Who could have been behind such a hare-brained scheme?” “The man’s in-laws, for example. “Oh, come on” “Or persons who may have been promised appointments and contracts. Or it could be persons who invested in his candidacy. Elections in Nigeria are business investments. The investors must have thought of a last minute strategy to reverse the situation. Simple economics. ” “You and your theories. The same people will do business with whoever eventually wins the election, anyway.” “There is also the inconclusive matter of the 23-year old wife. When the death was announced, many commentators on social media were more concerned about the young widow. Comments about how she will cope, what she would do next. One guy asked for her phone numbers.” “Stupid, callous fellow.” “Another fellow actually said he was ready to inherit all of Audu’s assets and liabilities in that regard.” “Let him go ahead. Ole!” “Besides, Audu’s death has turned everybody into a Constitutional expert. What happens if a candidate dies in the course of an inconclusive election? Who becomes the new candidate?” “Simple. The APC will field another candidate, appeal to whoever is aggrieved within the party to step down until an appropriate candidate who definitely must be Igala, is identified. I don’t see the APC fielding any candidate who will automatically make them lose the election.” “You think the APC candidate must still be Igala? But nothing is ever that straightforward in Nigerian politics.” “Of course, otherwise, it will be a walk-over for Governor Idris Wada. The Igalas have the numbers. Politics is a game of numbers. The stakes are high. I foresee many court cases” “Let them field Audu’s young widow then” “Are you out of your mind? Why are you so obsessed with this lady?” “Or may be his son. Does he have any son who is qualified? Let them make it a family affair. If he had supported his son as a candidate…But people just don’t know when to quit and hand over to the next generation.” “With a 23-year old wife, he was definitely committed to the next generation.” “Some people are of the view that his running mate should just run with the mandate, but I don’t think the circumstances favour him. He is from a minority group in Kogi state. He is a Christian, and the party may not back him “Poor James Faleke” “Yeah, he must be troubled. What if he and Audu had won. And they had been sworn in. But now, there are no guarantees.” “God’s will is supreme. That is one lesson we all must learn from all this. Remember Abacha? When it was time, God intervened. We are all pencils in God’s hands. You can amass all the wealth in the world, marry all the young women, misapply the people’s money, get so close to Cannan, but you can then fall sick and die. In life, things happen and all you have left is six feet, rich or poor, six feet.” “Six feet” “I hope Robert Mugabe knows this. I hope Grace Mugabe knows.” “Why Robert Mugabe?” “Didn’t you read that story about 50-year old Grace Mugabe, First Lady of Zimbabwe, buying her Robert, a special wheelchair?” “The way you pronounced Robert, you make it sound like Robot” “Isn’t that what the 91-year old President of Zimbabwe has become, a Robot. Grace Mugabe’s Robot” “Sad. In his days, Robert Mugabe, multiple degrees holder, was a shining star. And now, his wife is pushing him around” “She actually has a PhD, awarded in two months, without examination or dissertation, by her Robert in his capacity as Chancellor of the University of Zimbabwe!” “Mugabe! A Pan-Africanist, who stood up to the British and neo- colonial imperialism; today, he is falling down at public functions, he reads the wrong speech in parliament, he is old and tired, and yet he won’t quit.” “He should. Zimbabwe already has the oldest President in the world, and he has been in power since 1980- 35 years!” “With a wife like “Dis Grace” Mugabe, he won’t. She says she is ready to push the wheelchair herself, just in case anybody is in any doubt.” “I won’t put anything past that woman. Didn’t she once proclaim that any woman who wears mini-skirt and gets raped should not complain? Is that not the same woman who punched a journalist in the face during a foreign visit?” “Mugabe has stayed too long and has allowed a woman to destroy his legacy. He is so smitten with “Dis-Grace”, he allegedly fired his Chief of Defence Staff last year for staring at her derriere!” “That’s madness.” “But the woman get am oh. The thing dey; very seriously. And you know in that part of Africa, the women don’t need to buy it and enhance it like Kim Kardashian, the thing just dey and you can lose your head.” “I think someday in Africa, we’d have to start voting for these First Ladies too. Voters should be given the right to choose the President’s wife, or at least they should be screened by parliament. In Africa, the wives wield so much influence.” “They do in other places too. It is the man that matters.” “When Mugabe sits in that wheelchair, Zimbabwe is finished!” “For democracy to work, we need to worry about the leadership recruitment process in Africa. How do we free democracy from a debilitating sense and culture of entitlement. How do we get persons who are still up to it, and who will not aspire to rule till they are on wheelchair or life-long medication.” ““All men who play God and who aspire to be God, let them be reminded, it is just six feet. In Cameroon, Paul Biya has been sitting tight for 33 years, in Congo, Nguesso has been in power for 36 years, in Equitorial Guinea, Mbasogo is almost a god in human form. And you have dos Santos in Angola (36 years) Bashir in Sudan (22 years) Museveni in Uganda (29 years), Idris Deby in Chad (25 years) and Jammeh in Gambia (21 years).” “Six feet. Just six feet in the grave.” “I hope they all know.” “It is also a lesson for the poor, including those young ones who play God with their talents.” “Absolutely. There are people these days who play God with their laptops, their pens and I-pads. Imagine some people jubilating over other people’s misfortune.” “Six feet, my brother, not an inch more nor less. In the grave, all men are equal.” www.lindaikejisblog.com/2015/11/audus-inconclusive-death-mugabes.html?m=1 |

Adele's "25" has sold more copies in four days than any other album in 2015 For those not in the music industry, the record- breaking sales of Adele ’s 25 are a nice story and a sign that quality still means something when it comes to consumers’ musical preference. For those of us who cover the music business, Adele’s success is something much more exhilarating. It’s like getting to see a unicorn or Halley’s Comet or a once-in-a-lifetime storm of the century. Though official numbers won’t be in for a week, it looks like 25 will sell more than 2.5 million in its first week, surpassing ’N Sync’s record of 2.42 million for a single sales week with No Strings Attached in 2000. Adele’s set sold more than 900,000 via iTunes on day of release, Nov. 20, in the U.S. ( Update : As of Tuesday morning, 25 has officially sold more than 2.43 million in its first two days of release, breaking ‘N Sync’s record, according to SoundScan. The final number when the chart closes Thursday night is expected to be around 2.9 million, reports Billboard) . Album sales have been in freefall—sometimes in double digits year-over-year, sometimes only mildly so— since 2000. Albums whose first- week sales numbers 15 years ago would land them at No. 100 or so now come in at No. 1. Here are two stats that will help put Adele’s feat into perspective: So far this year, three albums have surpassed a million units in sales: Taylor Swift ’s 1989 , which came out last year, but has continued to sell well this year; Drake ’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late , which, until 25 , was the only album released this calendar year to sell a million copies; and now 25. (The only other albums possibly looking at moving 1 million units by Dec. 31 are Justin Bieber’s Purpose , which sold a staggering 649,000 last week, One Direction’s Made in the A.M. and Luke Bryan’s Kill The Lights.) http://www.forbes.com/sites/melindanewman/2015/11/23/two-staggering-stats-that-illustrate-how-remarkable-adeles-sales-are/?utm_campaign=Forbes&utm_source=TWITTER&utm_medium=social&utm_channel=Business&linkId=19035740 |

EHMIR:Gay alert for hugging your dad? |
When last did you see a Father hug his grown up Son in Public? Adebola (not real name) wrote on his facebook wall “My father has never been the affectionate type. We never had the father and son thing we always see on Hollywood. His role with me started the night he got my mom pregnant and ended each day when he came home from work and sat watching TV. I attend Lagos state university. I came home few days back after the close of the second semester. While unpacking my box, my dad walked into my room and asked for a hug. I was confused but said okay. He came over, hugged me, looked at me and grinned Then he left the room. Please is this a shape shifter cos, that Is surely not my dad” Nowadays it is becoming kinda awkward seeing a father and son share an embrace out in the open especially when the son comes of a certain age. Most sons today just like Adebola, would feel embarrassed if their fathers were to approach them for a hug. Whereas, hugging is becoming foreign to these folks, moms then again are constantly prepared to embrace and kiss their kids at any given point notwithstanding when its a bit too much. Hugging brings an extraordinary sort of closeness and an exceptional sort of bond which is shaped between mother and child. On the long run, a father who at the early stages didn’t share such relationship with their son, becomes insecure when he detects a developing closeness between mother and son thinking he is now less loved. Some fathers even accuse their wives of putting the child against them especially ,when he begins to notice that the child always takes the mothers side when there is a misunderstanding in the home. This issue (if i can call it that), is not peculiar to Nigeria or Africa alone. It is also becoming foreign to the foreigners as well. In a BBC radio program in the year 2012, Ex deputy prime minister of Britain John Prescott talked on how he was a bit detached as a father to two of his sons, blaming his background and culture for this" He said, “I have two brilliant sons and I love them to death, but to my regret I cannot somehow put my arms around them I don’t know where it comes from but I very much regret that I never had that” I feel that fathers ought to dependably make time to reflect in order to understand the sort of parent they are. A father may not know how to show openly his affection for his son so ,it would be unreasonable to quantify his adoration for his child with this. However, all fathers ought to realize that those easily overlooked details may turn out to be the most essential things www.sincerenigerian.com/2015/11/nigerian-fathers-do-not-hug-their-sons.html?m=1 Fp cc lalasticlala cc seun |
PRESS STATEMENT ON THE REPORTED DEATH OF PRINCE ABUBAKAR AUDU AND THE LEGAL IMPLICATIONS. The reported death today, Sunday, November 22nd, 2015, of the APC candidate in the Kogi State Governorship elections, Prince Abubakar Audu, is extremely shocking and sad. I would like to express my condolences to the entire family of Audu and to the people of Kogi State. However, the real question agitating the minds of everybody is the legal implication regarding the inconclusive Governorship elections at the time of his demise. To state it correctly he was said to have died AFTER the announcement of the results by INEC and after INEC had declared the elections inconclusive. Admittedly, this is a strange and novel constitutional scenario. It has never happened in our constitutional history to the extent that when an election has been partially conducted (and not before or after the elections) a candidate dies. What then happens? This is a hybrid situation between what happened in the case of Atiku Abubakar/Boni Haruna in 1999 and the provision of section 33 of the Electoral Act, 2010. In the case of Atiku Abubakar/Boni Haruna [which is now a clear constitutional provision of section 181(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended)] the Supreme Court held, in effect, that “if a person duly elected as Governor dies before taking and subscribing the Oath of Allegiance and oath of office, or is unable for any reason whatsoever to be sworn in, the person elected with him as Deputy governor shall be sworn in as Governor and he shall nominate a new Deputy-Governor who shall be appointed by the Governor with the approval of a simple majority of the house of Assembly of the State”. In the case of section 33 of the Electoral Act 2010 it provides, in effect, that if a person has been duly nominated as a candidate of his party and he dies before the election then the political party has the right to replace him with another candidate and not necessarily the Deputy Governorship candidate. Now, does the Kogi situation fit into section 181(1) of the Constitution as quoted above or section 33 of the Electoral Act mentioned above? My simple position is that the Kogi situation fits more into section 181(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and as such James Abiodun Faleke automatically becomes the governorship candidate of the APC. This is because even though the election in inconclusive, votes have been counted and allocated to Parties and candidates. As a result the joint ticket of Audu/Faleke has acquired some votes already. James Abiodun Faleke is as much entitled to those votes already counted as much as the late Abubakar Audu. He has a right to cling to those votes going into the supplementary election. There is only one problem, though. Who nominates Faleke’s Deputy? Unlike section 181(1) of the 1999 Constitution, he cannot approach the House of Assembly of the State to approve a nomination by him of a Deputy. This is because, in reality, he is not duly elected yet. Therefore it is only reasonable to conclude that it is APC (Faleke’s political party) that should submit the name of a fresh Deputy Governorship candidate to INEC for the supplementary election. This is the only position in this situation that accords with reason and good sense. FESTUS KEYAMO, ESQ. London, 9:40pm Sunday, November 22, 2015. https://mobile.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=467142280158544&id=100005883271622&refid=8&_ft_=qid.6220237296066566667%3Amf_story_key.-3377261569595714234&__tn__=%2As |
Section 181 of the Nigerian Constitution (1) If a person duly elected as Governor dies before taking and subscribing the Oath of Allegiance and oath of office, or is unable for any reason whatsoever to be sworn in, the person elected with him as Deputy governor shall be sworn in as Governor and he shall nominate a new Deputy-Governor who shall be appointed by the Governor with the approval of a simple majority of the House of Assembly of the State. (2) Where the persons duly elected as Governor and Deputy Governor of a State die or are for any reason unable to assume office before the inauguration of the house of Assembly, the Independent National Electoral Commission shall immediately conduct an election for a Governor and Deputy Governor of the State. http://nigerian-constitution.com/chapter-6-part-2-section-181-death-etc-of-governor-before-oath-of-office/
