HAPPY NEW YEAR NAIRALANDERS There is a difference between friends and acquaintance. Most times we mistake both. Some people just want to be part of your inner cycle because things are rosy. Well, here is my list of 7 kinds of people you should avoid if you want to have a good year. 1. People who don't respect you A person who does not see your worth is no friend. In this New Year, Stop hanging out with people who always make you feel bad about yourself, or make you loose your self esteem. Have respect for yourself by doing away with them. 2. Greedy People These set of people can turn you to a charity organisation without you knowing. For example, Imagine paying the T-fare everytime you guys board a cab together. Or always footing the bills anytime you guys go out to have a good time together. These toxic individuals would use you and leave you worse off, sucking you dry and feeding off you like a parasite. Flee from them. 3. Discouragers Run away from this set of persons. Everything is always impossible and difficult to them. They could ridicule you to the point that you start finding your goals funny and unattainable. This persons are contented with being just comfortable. Don't let them contaminate your ideas and thoughts. Avoid them. 4. Hypocrites Do you remember that friend who always gossip about other people? They always have the latest and enough unpleasant things to say about others and they are always right. Ever wondered what they also say about you to others? Pull away from them. 5. People who draw you back These set of persons sometimes can be your best friends or very close pals. They are the reasons why you go back to bad your habits. You could be trying to stop cheating or smoking, or other harmful addiction, and they always have a way of getting you back to that kind of life. Avoid them. 6. People you can't trust A friend should have your back even in your absence. And should be ready to stick out his/her neck for you. What is the need of having a friend who can't do this for you? You should also know what your friends are capable of. Stay away from people you can trust. 7. Friends that want free jobs from you I call them the "Ojo free" friends. 'My guy my guy' would never get us far. It is better to have people who value your job than friends who wants everything free. This same people would never treat their business the same way. Avoid them Source: http://www.sincerenigerian.com/2016/01/7-kinds-of-people-to-avoid-this-year.html?m=1 What other people do you think we should avoid? |

The year 2015 will not be forgotten in a hurry This Year gave Nigerians a voice and they used it indeed! This year also witnessed some spoken words from Notable Nigerians which cannot/should not be forgotten in a hurry. These quotes cracked me up,I dont know about you! 10. “Mr Orubebe, you are a former Minister of the Federal Republic. You are a statesman in your own right. You should be careful about what you say or what allegations or accusations you make. Certainly you should be careful about your public conduct” – Attahiru Jega..... The former INEC chairman said this to Godsday Orubebe, after the PDP party agent created an embarrassing scene at the collation centre in Abuja, trying to disrupt announcement of results. 9. “Go and die” – Adams Oshiomhole. The incident happened as the woman knelt before Oshiomhole begging for her little means of livelihood to be saved. After which he shouted out the infamous phrase. Not funny at all, which was immediately noticed by Nigerians. The video of the great humiliation surfaced online and got people furious. Soon the governor apologized to the widow, donated N2 million to her and offered help with employment. 8. “Ojukwu is a great man, he died but his manhood lives on” – Patience Jonathan. Dame Patience put a noble meaning into the word “manhood”, however internet users did not miss the opportunity to have a good laugh upon hearing it. It is worth mentioning that the former First Lady is often attacked in social media over grammatical blunders in her speech. 7. “Stealing is not corruption” – Goodluck Jonathan. At the Presidential Media Chat on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 former President Goodluck Jonathan stated that “Stealing isn’t corruption”. 6. “I have never collected bribe in my life” – Rotimi Amaechi. The former Rivers state governor, said this when questioned on corruption charges leveled against him during his ministerial screening at the Seante. 5. “I might have ruffled a few feathers in the course of my duties, it wasn’t personal” – Lai Mohammed. Nigeria’s minister of information stated this in his speech, during his ministerial screening. 4. “My ambition is not worth the blood of any Nigerian” – Goodluck Jonathan. The former president speaking at a special church service to mark this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day, Jonathan reminded politicians that no ambition was worth the blood of innocent Nigerians, adding that if we continued to kill ourselves, there would be no nation to govern. 3. “May our Loyalty never be tested” – Fashola. The minister of power, work and housing said this in response to a question to god-fatherism during his ministerial screening. 2. “Poverty is the problem between the mindlessly rich and hopelessly poor” – Kayode Fayemi. The former Ekiti state governor said this during his ministerial screening. 1. “I belong to everybody and I belong to nobody” – President Muhammadu Buhari. The president said this in his inaugural speech as he was sworn in as the 5th democratic leader which was held at the Eagles’ Square, Abuja. Add yours |

This just shows how extreme and brutal the military can get sometimes when discharging its duties. Pictured is the horror which is currently going on in Burundi. First, the soldiers shot him, then they dragged him on the tarred road and also wanted to smash his head. These shameless treatment was carried out by men who are supposed to be protecting him! The UN's top rights body has agreed to send investigators to Burundi to probe widespread abuses there amid warnings the country is sliding towards civil war, AFP news agency reports. Last Friday, 87 people were killed in clashes in the capital, Bujumbura. Unrest began in April when President Pierre Nkurunziza announced he would seek a third term in office. He survived a coup attempt in May, and secured a third term in disputed elections in July. Source http://www.nationalhelm.com/2015/12/burundicrisis-see-horrific-photos-of.html?m=1

Barring any last minute change of mind, President Muhammadu Buhari will next Tuesday present N6.07 trillion budget proposal to the National Assembly. The planned presentation has compelled the senate to shift its earlier plan to proceed on Christmas break from tomorrow to next Tuesday. This decision was arrived at a one-hour closed door session yesterday before the commencement of plenary after an earlier consideration of Friday as a suitable date for the presentation. THISDAY learnt that most senators had initially preferred Friday for the presentation to enable them commence their Christmas break this week. But Tuesday was later considered to be more suitable because the Joint National Assembly Committee on Finance, Appropriation and National Assembly is yet to conclude legislation on the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Policy (FSP). The N6 trillion budget proposal for 2016 budget is predicated on $38 per barrel oil benchmark; N197 exchange rate and 2.200 oil benchmark. The N6 trillion expenditure proposal is the highest in the history of the country’s fiscal plans. It was N4.07 trillion in 2010; N4.22 trillion in 2011; N4.74 trillion in 2012; N4.92 trillion in 2013; N4.6 trillion in 2014 and N5.06 trillion in the current year including the N574.5 billion recently approved supplementary budget. Ironically, $38 per barrel benchmark is the lowest in recent times. In 2011, it was $62 per barrel; $67 in 2012; $79 in 2013; $76 in 2014 and $53 per barrel in the current year. Media mogul Raymond Dokpesi has been formally arraigned at the Federal High Court in Abuja on a six- count charge which includes money laundering. Dokpesi, the Chairman of DAAR Communications, owners of African Independent Television, AIT and Raypower, was earlier invited and arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja, over money disbursed by the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki. Shortly after he took his plea, Justice Gabriel Kolawole ordered that he be remanded in EFCC custody pending the hearing of his bail application by 12:30pm on Thursday. The prosecution led by Mr. Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), accused the defendants of receiving, N2.1bn from the office of the National Security Adviser between October 2014 and March 19, 2015 for the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential media campaign in breach of provisions of the Public Procurement Act, Money laundering Act and the EFCC Act. What Is Wrong With Gov. Ayodele Fayose's Dressing (photos) This is what Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State Wore to the state House of Assembly yesterday to present the 2016 budget totaling N67 billion. Do you think there is anything wrong with his dressing on such occasion, or the house doesn't have a dress code unlike Edo and some other states?

MrsPhyno:I think we are saying the same thing, but i like the way you put it |
Recently i had a friend complaining about how his girlfriend wasn't understanding anymore. "She is always complaining most days that our relationship doesn't have enough communication whereas we are always on the phone talking and other times we are skyping or chatting on whatsapp". While he was busy ranting about his relationship issues my mind wandered off to the good old days. Indeed Times are changing I can recollect my High School Days in Benin and how i met my first love. I was lying on my desk during one of those 30minutes break we usually get after the end of morning lectures, when she walked up to me and asked why my face wasnt "looking bright". I didn't even know that my own face wasn't bright enough for someone else so i didn't know how to answer, but i wasn't going to snub her so, Rhetorically i asked; "Cant you see that i'm hungry" The next minute she was back, standing at the front of my desk with the then popular Twenty Naira Yoghurt and a Donut. That was how i fell in love for the first time It just happened that way, Even my friends could never understand why i was into her.. Sometimes i was sent out of the classroom for not paying attention. I always wandered off in fantasy land of how pleasant our future would be. How many kids we would have and how i was going to name the first one genesis. I remember our first fight, She had admitted in front of my friends that she was not going to marry any man from my tribe. I felt awful and hell was let loose. When we were not fighting we would hold hands and we went everywhere together and after school hours i would walk her home under the scorching sun before finding my way back home. During the holidays, i would place my oxford advance dictionary beside me while i composed the most romantic love letters to her. The crazy thing is, I did all these romantic things and the best thing i got from her was a peck and it was enough for me. How we interact with one another has been an extremely fascinating perception for me. Life changes with time and we are all developing along with it. Today, Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp and other Online Networking Platforms have come with style and it has continued to improve connectivity in a lot of ways, making the world a global village. In any case, a great deal has changed, and a ton of things such as in this case, Relationships are no more as fascinating as they used to be. The Independent National Electoral Commission has cancelled Saturday’s Bayelsa State governorship election in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area — one of the state’s eight LGAs. The decision, which will soon be announced officially by INEC, means the elections are inconclusive. INEC said the decision was taken because of violence, the abduction of electoral officials and ballot box snatching, according to details seen by PREMIUM TIMES. The election will be conducted in due date. Governor Seriake Dickson has a clear lead in the election, according to results announced so far by INEC. Mr. Dickson, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, won in majority of the seven local government areas announced on Sunday by INEC. His main challenger, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has so far scored the second highest number Source: http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/194772-breaking-bayelsa-inec-cancels-election-in-southern-ijaw-declares-election-inconclusive.html |
