Politics / Don’t Use Abdulmutallab To Judge Nigerians – Obasanjo by Omowunmimi(f): 7:37am On Jan 04, 2010
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has advised the international community not to use the case of Nigerian jet bomb suspect, Umar Abdulmutallab, to criminalise Nigerians.

Obasanjo said this in an interview with newsmen after a church service held at Chapel of Christ The Glorious King, located within the expansive complex of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Sunday.

He lamented that the incident was linked to the son of a man he described

For other uses, see Sleepwalking (disambiguation).

Sleepwalking (also called somnambulism or noctambulism[1]) is a parasomnia or sleep disorder where the sufferer engages in activities that are normally associated with wakefulness while he or she is asleep or in a sleep-like state. Sleepwalking is usually defined by or involves the person affected apparently shifting from his or her prior sleeping position and moving around and performing normal actions as if awake (cleaning, walking and other activities).

It is inexact to assume that somnambulists are unconscious during their nocturnal sleepwalking episodes. They are simply not conscious of their actions on a level where memory of the sleepwalking episode can be recalled[citation needed], and because of this, unless the sleepwalker is awakened or aroused by someone else, this sleep disorder can go unnoticed. Sleepwalking is more commonly experienced in people with high levels of stress, anxiety or psychological factors and in people with genetic factors (family history), or sometimes a combination of both.

A common misconception is that sleepwalking is acting out the physical movements within a dream, but in fact, sleepwalking occurs earlier on in the night when rapid eye movement (REM), or the "dream stage" of sleep, has not yet occurred.[citation needed] REM behavior disorder is the proper term for the condition that occurs when a person "acts out" his dream.

Explanation

Sleepwalking can affect people of any age. It generally occurs when an individual moves during slow wave sleep or SWS (during stage 3 or 4 of slow wave sleep—deep sleep) (Horne, 1992; Kales & Kales, 1975). In children and young adults, up to 80% of the night is spent in SWS (50% in infants).[citation needed] However, this decreases as the person ages, until none can be measured in the geriatric individual.[citation needed] For this reason, children and young adults (or anyone else with a high amount of slow wave sleep [SWS]) are more likely to be woken up and, for the same reasons, they are witnessed to have many more episodes than the older individuals.[citation needed]

[edit] Statistics

According to a Finnish study published in 1997, children sleepwalk more frequently than adults. Sleepwalking was reported for 6.9% of female children and 5.7% of male children, compared to rates of 3.1% for adult women and 3.9% for adult men.[2]

[edit] Drug-related sleepwalking

The sleep aid Zolpidem (also sold under the brand name Ambien) has been associated with an increased likelihood to sleep walk,[3] including especially dangerous sleeping activities such as driving.

[edit] Activities

Activities such as eating, bathing, urinating, talking, dressing, driving cars, painting, whistling, dancing, committing murder, or [4][5][6] engaging in sexual intercourse[7] have been reported or claimed to have occurred during sleepwalking. In December 2008, reports were published of a woman who sent semi-coherent emails while sleepwalking, including one inviting a friend around for dinner and drinks.[8]

Contrary to popular belief, most cases of sleepwalking do not consist of walking around (without the conscious knowledge of the subject). Most cases of somnambulism occur when the person is awakened (something or someone disturbs their SWS); the person may sit up, look around and immediately go back to sleep. But these kinds of incidences are rarely noticed or reported unless recorded in a sleep clinic.[citation needed]

Sleepwalkers engage in their activities with their eyes open so they can navigate their surroundings, not with their eyes closed and their arms outstretched, as often parodied in cartoons and films. The subject's eyes may have a glazed or empty appearance, and if questioned, the subject will be slow to answer and may be unable to respond in an intelligible manner.[dubious – discuss]

[edit] Hazards and safety

When sleepwalkers are a danger to themselves or others (for example, when climbing up or down steps or trying to use a potentially dangerous tool such as a stove or a knife), steering them away from the danger and back to bed is advisable. It has even been reported that people have died or were injured as a result of sleepwalking.[9][10] Sleepwalking should not be confused with psychosis.

Sleepwalking has in rare cases been used as a defense (sometimes successfully) against charges of murder (see Homicidal somnambulism).

[edit] Automatism

In some rare cases, a person may enter into the behaviors consistent with sleepwalking from a state of being awake and alert. This disorder is usually diagnosed as a form of epilepsy known as automatism. An attack usually begins with little or no warning. The subject may engage in simple gestures or small movements, or less commonly, complex behaviors like cooking or driving, performing the activity as if fully alert. After the seizure ends, the subject has no memory of the event, and often feels disoriented[11].

[edit] In art and culture

The 19th-century German chemist and parapsychologist Baron Karl Ludwig von Reichenbach made extensive studies of sleepwalkers and used his discoveries to formulate his theory of the Odic force.

Sleepwalking has been found as a theme in many dramatic works. It is a major plot element in the classic silent German Expressionist film Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari (English title: The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari). In Shakespeare's Macbeth, Lady Macbeth sleepwalks because of her overwhelming guilt and insanity. Sleepwalking is also central for Charles Brockden Brown's 1799 novel Edgar Huntly, Or, Memoirs of a Sleepwalker.

Italian composer Vincenzo Bellini's opera La Sonnambula is named after its heroine, a sleepwalker. In Dario Argento's Phenomena (1985), the protagonist, Jennifer Corvino (Jennifer Connelly), witnesses a murder while sleepwalking. In the film adaptation of Silent Hill, the protagonist's daughter suffers from sleepwalking. In the House episode "Role Model", a woman has sex with her ex-husband while sleepwalking and gets pregnant. In the movie Step Brothers, the main characters, Brennan and Dale, both sleepwalk to quite comic antics. In the 1947 Disney animated short Sleepy Time Donald, Donald Duck was a prolonged sleepwalker, and Daisy Duck had to steer him away from many hazards.

Dr. John William Polidori, a friend of Lord Byron's, earned his medical degree from the University of Edinburgh in 1815 with a treatise on sleepwalking. He was present at the famous gathering at the Villa Diodati on 16 June 1816 when Byron issued a challenge to him, Percy Bysshe Shelley, Mary Godwin and Claire Clairmont to write a ghost story. Polidori wrote The Vampyre, the first vampire novel in English.

I must confess you hardly have time for your woman, you hardly satisfy her sexually . Though its no excuse for her infidelity. But note this- if she can do it right in your bedroom ! men you have a choice ! Every challenges have
alternatives. For those who is saying its like a fairy tales, uhmmmm wait until you experience what you have never imagine in your life. Things happen, believe me , its a world of laughter and a world of joy.

@ touchmeder

I know what I am saying, you know things happen, if anything happens to the man due to the last event, the wife will be blamed. Its just good she let them know now. I know of men who will go extra miles in taming a woman. And can you guess where he is now? someone might be pampering him, giving him the scarce caring he thinks his wife his not showering. I pray they get over this and start a new life. Communication is the key word. And couples dont need to count everything. Silence too is a powerful too of communication. Yoruba will say Agbo meji ole mu omi ni koto(two ram cannot drink from a single pot). Subsequent s conflict (they cannot avoid it) should be settled withing . I also belive in Prayer, it has an inherent power to affect all that affects us .

Please watch those that advise you call the cops- Kindly separate their culture from ours, pick those that can give you happy home and discard the so call ' I am your wife for God sake' Remember he is your Husband too . I dont know if you are a Muslim or Christian but both book separate the role of Husband and wife, there is a way you will eat your food and you will be call thief (proverb). You did not ask him to stay back in the feminine voice expected of a wife. He is avoiding crisis ,that is why he always leave the house. You should have been more submissive (not saying you turn to a fool) . Some men will not do the best thing that is good for them because a woman ordered them to do it. Meanwhile tell your In laws about everything and please when all this is over (Gods willing) try and open a good communication medium between you and your Husband. Avoid third party advise to influence you. Marriage is sweet after all. The Bible said a good wife protect her home(I dont know the verse -I am sorry)  I wish you all the best. Send a text message and show how sorry you are even though he hurts you. Later when both of you are in good mood. You let him know what he always do that hurts you. May Almighty God guides and guards you more.

Commuter Drivers Task LASG On Activities Of Touts

August 25, 2009 14:55 (7 hours ago), 8 views

An appeal has been sent to the Lagos State Government and the Police Commissioner, Lagos State, on the need to stop the activities of motor park touts popularly called Agbero, over their extortion and undue harassment of commuter bus drivers.

Some of the drivers who spoke with Lagos Bulletin said that the tolls the touts collect from them daily are too exorbitant, adding that if their activities are not checked, it may lead to a breakdown of law and order in the state.

A driver in Bariga, who identified himself as Adewale, lamented the level at which money is being collected from them, adding that if they refused to pay, the touts would damage their vehicles.

“I think it is high time the government waged war against these people, who forcefully collect N1,500 from each bus driver in the morning and another N50 per trip all through the day.

“Apart from that, in the afternoon, we also pay another N200. How much do we gain or make daily?” he asked rhetorically.

Investigation by Lagos Bulletin revealed that the extortions are even worse along the expressway.

It was gathered that since the commuter buses had been restricted to service lanes, the touts now plant themselves at every bus stop along the expressway.

In a journey from Mile 12 to Jibowu in Yaba, every commuter bus that picks passengers is made to cough out N100, while the ones that did not get any passengers to pick are let off the hook after paying N50.

At the end of a non-stop journey, a bus that did not pick any passenger would have been made to pay N400, while those that picked passengers would have parted with between N800 and N1,000.

Another driver said that since their restriction to service lane, the greater part of what they make daily goes to touts and vehicle owners.

He therefore appealed to the state government to set up a task force that would stop the activities of the Agbero who have made themselves kings of Lagos roads.

The driver also stated that the high transportation fare in the state was due to the activities of touts and that if they could be dislodged from Lagos roads, transport fares would come down.
