Remember that your primary reason for being in school is to learn and get a good degree. Having said that, you also need to balance academics with social life.

Also, do not start your semester aiming for a 2.1, try a first class and if you fail, you would be on a strong 2.1

May God be with you #bless

ueskman: At last, after two years of seeking admission into tertiary institution, now m admitted to Oau.
Need help from you ppl, Whatt are those things am supposed to know before stepping into that school? kind of nervous, help pals, thanks in advance.

Here is what i think about these trends :

1. You cannot go wrong with a business that leverages on this fanatic love for sports especially football.

2. Does Nigeria need a “One Direction” kinda boy band? I think so.

Many others when you follow the link below:

Career / Re: KICK AGAINST The Unjust Practices Of ICSL by oneblacboi: 6:59am On Nov 26, 2013
You guys talking about ICSL should please take a seat. Did they coerce you into signing a contract? If you dont like the terms, terminate the contract based on agreed terms. I am tired of seeing so many un-learned posts on nairaland. You guys dont know what a contract is ni?

You cant come to social media to slander a company that has worked over the years to earn a reputation. Tell me they didnt remit your pension or they breached yhe contract id listen but to speak negatively about a contract ypu signed only shows how naive you are.

My two cents!
Romance / Re: I Think Life Is Unfair To Women & Guys Need To Be Realistic! by oneblacboi: 9:05pm On Nov 19, 2013
When you eventually make money and decide to "buy" the ladies you could not afford before someone would still complain! Abegg!!!!

DailyNews: I know this may come as a surprise to so many regular users of nairaland who think and believe that DailyNews is always against women and supporting guys, anyway, that's my own cross to bear, but I just couldn't withhold the truth after observing this ugly trend amongst guys of nowadays.

for some time now, I have observed something ugly in today's world, especially in Nigeria, and I think Nigerian guys aren't saint by the day, how? Read on...

You are a guy with less than 100thousand naira savings in your bank account, and maybe u are also a student, an unemployed or under-employed graduate or even a school drop out, you are not handsome, not intelligent and not in any viable business or life train...but you want a girl like Kim Kardashian or let me say, Juliet Ibrahim to date u and also love u with all her heart, how and why?

In life, u must have something relative to offer to the other party if u want to be valued and treated like a king.

Most guys of nowadays don't cut their coats according to their length...they want a very pretty girl that's also fashionable and they don't even have anything to offer to her besides unnecessary sms and phone calls, and highest, sex.

Come on guys, be realistic, nothing good in life comes free, and if u get one free pls be watchful and tread cautiously.

If u want a hot girl, then try and be a hotter guy, simple!

You saw Peter of Psquare's wife, Omolola right? You want a girl pretty like her? Then work hard like Psquare and stop daydreaming.

Why should a very pretty girl agree to date and love u if I may ask?

Even if she accepts u out of pity or whatever u guys call it, believe me u are in for it if u don't up your game ASAP!
For instance, an ugly poor guy is permitted to dream of having a very pretty hot girlfriend but a beautiful girl is not permitted to wish or publicly declare her love or desire for rich guys, uh uh...that's really unfair guys!

We want girls to look very pretty, sexy and trendy, and we also want to date them for free and still expect them to keep looking cute and being faithful to us becos we are King Solomon without a palacegrin

We guys don't want girls to cheat but we are cheats ourselves and not planning to change...jeez! Life is really unfair to women, I can feel your pains, sighs.

I just felt like telling u guys this for once pls...if u want a very beautiful and hot girl like the ones u see on billboards or on TVs or wherever, then work hard to make yourself a desired man and stop complaining of heartbreak and turn downs pls...cos it won't change anything, so get busy and stop wasting your limited time online chasing girls and daydreaming in the hope of getting a hot girl for free online.

And to the girls...this isn't a backup pls...if u want a rich guy yourself, then try and make yourself worthy for one...cos so many hotter girls are out there to snatch him away from u, that's the reality of our today world!

Goodnight allsmiley

Business / The Parable Of Ewa Agoyin by oneblacboi: 3:37pm On Nov 12, 2013
Earlier today I went to pay someone a visit. On my way back, I noticed this ewa agoyin seller. The food she was selling had a very inviting aroma and as a matter of fact that is how I noticed her. Walking past her simply because it was a road side food shop and as a fresh guy, I could not be found at such a place (you know na…lol).

I hadn’t gone a few steps farther when I rescinded my decision and went back to have a taste of this meal with such a pleasing aroma. Ewa agoyin asides its taste, brings with it so many nostalgic memories of my childhood growing up in Nigeria and so this to me was more than just a meal.

I finally went and placed my order for ewa agoyin (for those not familiar with the word, its beans and palm oil fried by the angels) and asked if she had bread to go with it. Lo and behold, she didn’t have bread.

Find out the business lesson learnt here:

Investment / Re: How Pension Managers Are Cheating Nigerians by oneblacboi: 9:16am On Oct 26, 2013
This is not the fault of the Pension Fund Administrator. What you have there is what your employer contributed. Ask your employer for a breakdown of all payments made on your behalf.

Imo obot: Honestly, there is an urgent need to review the PENSION SCHEME policies in Nigeria especially TRUSTFUND. I work with one of the new generation Banks as a contract staff, i was shock when i got my account statement and realized that i have just N25,000 and some fractions after working for close to 4 years. Imagine! Very annoying.

BRYMO!!! That guy thinks he is dealing with the average Nigerian businessman. #Joker of life! Audu dont play no games mehn.

A contract is a contract. When there is a breach, you determine the contract in court rather than violate it. I guess the son of a carpenter was thinking just like a carpenter. Sad

If you get a job and ur notice period is 3 months, you fulfill it. With time Brymo would have blown. Iceprince waited 4 good years!!!!!!!!! People really do not notice this.

Ask Kelly Hansome or Soul E baba

The twitter account he is even using to rant was verified with the help of Chocolate city. I think labels need to start owning social platforms of their artistes too. Mchew.

Audu chop and scree ds guy and let investors know that the entertainment industry is not a charity case.

Business / Re: Procedures To Get TIN No. From FIRS by oneblacboi: 8:29am On Oct 21, 2013
Well, like i highlighted in the post, the tax authorities cannot ascertain if you are telling the truth about commencement. Try to find a way to provide undeniable evidence that you have not commenced business. That should work.

ProfTayour:

Thanks @ oneblacboi.

So, in that case i should not have to pay the 10,000 late registration penalty since i'm yet to commence business operation.

The staff i met at FIRS Ilorin insists. How do i convince them to get me the TIN without paying?

I need it to open a corporate bank account.

Thanks
Business / Re: Procedures To Get TIN No. From FIRS by oneblacboi: 8:27am On Oct 21, 2013
No! Education Tax is only paid along with company income tax and a business yet to commence is not liable to pay.

meetgaya:

most you pay education tax even if your company is yet to commence business? and how much?
Business / Re: Procedures To Get TIN No. From FIRS by oneblacboi: 6:50am On Oct 14, 2013
So many misconceptions on this thread! Let me clear the air as an experienced tax consultant that has helped hundreds of companies with this process and other tax related matters.

First of all, a TIN is FREE! To obtain a TIN you have to present your incorporation documents, a completed FIRS taxpayer input form stamped with your official stamp. Note however, as a result o FIRS' unstructured methods of operation, different tax offices may require slightly different documents which may include an application letter.

Secondly, some tax offices would only issue you TIN numbers when you register for VAT and Companies Income Tax hence some extra documents would be required.

Thirdly, according to the tax laws, you should register for VAT six months after commencement of your business otherwise, you would be liable to a penalty of N10,000 for the first month of default and N5,000 for subsequent months. However, a company might have been registered with CAC 20 years ago and might have not commenced business. In this case, the company is not liable to pay any penalty. The tax authorities on the other hand knowing how fraudulent taxpayers can be claiming not to have commenced business whereas they have operations running for years usually require that at least a N10,000 penalty is paid for any company register later that six months ago whether the business claims to have commenced business or not. Once again, this doesn't happen at all the FIRS offices. One FIRS office with this method is the YABA ITO on Murtala Mohammed Road.

Fourth, if for any reason, you are to pay a penalty, never pay cash to a officer rather, always pay through the bank where you would obtain an e-ticket for payment.

Finally, when you register with the tax office, there are certain things now required of you. One of the numerous requirements is monthly filing of VAT returns and other tax payments. For this reason i always advise people to engage the services of a tax consultant as tax is generally like babalawo things. it looks so simple until you get into it and realize there is much more than you bargained for.

I would be happy to answer further questions on this subject matter. However, before you ask a question, ensure you read the entire thread first.

Some tax offices would just hit you with unnecessary liabilities even when you are not supposed to pay just to meet their revenue targets. To be safe, always ensure you register your business with FIRS within six months of incorporation

ProfTayour: I registered a business name last year August and was at FIRS office to obtain TIN last week, i was told to pay #10,000 for late registration or something like that... Please isn't there a way around this?
Business / Re: Procedures To Get TIN No. From FIRS by oneblacboi: 6:30am On Oct 14, 2013
This is totally false! I wonder where you got this from

Business / 2 Business Ideas That Can Thrive Off The Booming E-commerce Sector In Nigeria by oneblacboi: 8:19am On Oct 06, 2013
As a follow up to my post on 7 innovative e-commerce websites in Nigeria, I have carefully thought about two businesses that can spring from this internet vibe we are seeing in Nigeria. You know almost everyone has a web shop or a blog nowadays. Lol

In the course of my daily activities as a business consultant, I am constantly asked for new business ideas and ways in which businesses can improve their profits and grow even bigger. Some people seem to be just waiting with capital to jump on the next big idea to hit the market.

I can however say, that no matter how good a business idea is, if you do not have passion, discipline and good business design, it would fail. Below, I write of two business that you can easily setup with less than N500,000 to support these internet businesses.

1. Customer Call Centre

What it is: Have you ever placed an order online? Did you notice that someone called you to confirm your order? That was a customer care person.

Why it is a good business: There are several online companies with no physical address. A lot of them are also run by people working full time on another job. These people have no time neither do they have the resources to hire a customer care agent or even pay rent, pay for other equipment to have a fully functional customer call service centre. However, they will be willing to pay someone who helps them have access to these facilities without the stress of setting up. You can even add an extra service charge for handling their social media customer service.

What you would need: Phone(s), call Centre software, Laptop, Internet

Career / How I Won A Schorlarship From The CFA Institute by oneblacboi: 12:41pm On Aug 28, 2013
Sometime early 2012, I came across a notice from the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute on its Access Scholarship Program (“Program”) which is designed to make CFA Institute programs more available to individuals who may not be able to afford the full program fees. (“Access Scholarships”).

After reading up on the eligibility criteria, official rules, application procedures and evaluation process, I decided to take my chance and apply for the scholarship.

The application form required that I fill in my personal information, a personal statement, references and my personal financial statement.

I submitted the application and about three months later, I received an email notifying me of my success!

Please see my personal statement and personal financial statement used for the entry submission.
